@stryfetc1 I would never argue that T&C is a better film than BTILC. It is not. I do content though that it's cheesier and more over the top. The truck scene at the end is just balls to the wall. Big Trouble has some great martial arts and cool effects but it never gets as bat shit crazy as T&C. Some of it comes down to money. T&C had more than twice the budget.

Can't believe Kurt Russell has not been a household name back then. When I was a kid in the late 80s/early 90s whenever a new Kurt Russell movie came out I knew I had to see it, because he's such a badass, especially in all his John Carpenter movies :-) But Bill Paxton is still the most underrated actor of all time ;-)
You kidding me? Escape From New York, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Tombstone, Backdraft etc. Not to mention his Disney movies as a kid. I'd defintely say Kurt was a household name in that time just not considered a Stallone or Schwarzenegger type action star.

Russell and Stallone had perfect comedic synergy, and is an overall feel good guilty pleasure that I can still enjoy to this day. I could have easily watched another two sequels based on their characters, but because they didn’t, it keeps this movie uniquely special and untarnished by the Hollywood money machine.
See, the reason I believe in the Mandela Effect is because of Tango and Cash 2. I distinctly remember watching the Arsenio Hall show back in the day and he said he just got off the set of Tango and Cash 2.

Can never put it passed Hollywood to try and capitalize off of any success a movie has. Not quite in the leagues of the big boys like Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop & Die Hard, but a very fun movie nonetheless. I had read somewhere this movie had a troubled production. But even so the end product, even though bit of mess can't take away the enjoyment of it all. For a long time in the UK we've only had the cut 97 min version, but now following uncut release on DVD in recent years we have a 99 - 100 min uncut versions finally available on both ITunes & Google Play (which also has the cut 97 min version also). I'm not surprised that this was one of the earlier attempts to get Schwarzennegger & Stallone onscreen together. But Kurt Russell makes a pretty decent replacement for Schwarzennegger who turned the movie down. The movie is chock-full of one liners, which disguises the weak script pretty well along with spectacular action scenes. I love Stallone's voice intro at the opening studio logo and titles. "Okay Let's do it."
Despite all the back end politics, at the end of the day, this was an 80's action movie at it's finest! Stallone and Russell, I thought, had great chemistry together and would love to see a reuniting in this day and age. I love this movie! It's a lot of fun!
I saw it in the theater as a teenager, and loved it. I still wouldn't mind streaming it again. But let the movie be! Not every movie needs to be continued. It's not something that can translate well into the 2020s. Everyone who liked it before wouldn't care for modernization. People who weren't around then probably wouldn't like it. I can't imagine who the audience would be.
Most of us have lost our VHS players one way or another. One of mine was a TV combo and the tv broke. The other stopped working from excessive wear and tear due to watching too many movies. Now there's about 200 VHS tapes just sitting in boxes likely never to be seen again.
While it's neat to have both Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell in a film, Tango and Cash is truly monumental for uniting Michael J. Pollard and Clint Howard.
I REALLY wish they'd release Tango & Cash, as well as Demolition Man, on Blu-Ray WITH the deleted scenes you see in the trailers in their entirety, even if they aren't edited into the film. We deserve to know exactly what was cut.
There’s a better than average chance the deleted scenes were trashed. This was 10 years before DVD really took off and most non-cinephiles found laserdiscs too expensive. So, unless a movie was a monster hit, there wasn’t much incentive to hang onto cut scenes.
I loved this movie. AND, because it was a Warner Brothers' property I speculated that there could easily be a crossover film with Riggs and Murtaugh (Lethal Weapon franchise), but that never happened.

All the badguys are males, there's no shooting, chase scenes happen in a Prius. Tango wins all her fights very easily, and everyone loves her, Cash is a perfect single mother who is also a lesbian and is also adored at her work at NASA and at home where her female child is being bullied at school for being black and female and single and gay. The principal is also a white fat gay hating man who coincidentally is also racist, and the kingpin boss the 2 protagonists have to arrest but can't because their white male chief is protecting the principal because the chief is also racist and a homophobe. The principal also has a secretary who puts up with being sexually harassed on every scene she's in but helps TnC because girls help each other out. In the end the secretary turns out to also be a single mother and a closet feminist, and join TnC as Love and they become TLC in the direct to digital netflix sequel. IF you read this far then I am sorry for putting you through that. If I meet you on the street I owe you a cookie.
This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I was 17 years old when this came out, but I LOVED this movie. I still watch it every now and then, and can quote every single one-liner in it. Classic 80s.

Jon Ericson I agree. It was...kinda forced, I felt. It started well, and his relationship with his niece was genuine, but it just tried too hard to bring the feels, and the ending was too over-the-top.

Man, I'd love another 40 minutes of Tango And Cash frenetic action! Even if a big part of that time was just fleshing out the characters, I'd still be into it. It's a great comedic action film, one of the best!

i loved Tango n Cash.. it was the perfect "Opposites" movie.. Stallone was the uptight, Business model of a Policeman,.. Russel was the brash no holds barred Streetcop... and they at least appeared to play perfectly off one another.. really enjoyed their chemistry.. and the movie..
This movie was a staple for me growing up. Regardless of all the antics behind the scenes. What a great 80’s film. The 80’s is my favorite genre of movie’s.
80s movies are the best, and this is one of my favorites for two reasons, one, it's a great movie because it is pure fun, and a joy to watch, and two, the wonderful memories I have watching this with my mom, who I lost in 2019. R.I.P. Mom. I love you, I miss you.
But dang, they were good. And you have to credit Sly Stallone. Brion James (he played the ponytailed English guy) said the set was so chaotic that he worried he would get fired. The first director was fired by the studio for going crazy with the budget. Arguments broke out so often that Sly had to break up quite a few and eventually was multitasking. He was producing, acting AND helping with the script so he helped out with quite a few of the one liners. My favorite is when he stuffs the grenade into Brion's pants and says "My little contribution to birth control." LMAO... I also like when they were struggling to find weapons to fight Perret's bodyguards and he gave Cash a .38. "Aw, why is yours always bigger than mine!?" I started laughing. Then Tango sent me over the edge with "See ya later... peewee!"
I revisited this one recently. Very entertaining movie for what it is. I think these two actors, teamed together, actually worked. Kurt Russel and Sylvester Stellone are now iconic. Every movie since that time has copied this same premise. We love it. Same thing happening right now with copying what Quentin Tarantino does. "Hollywood".
Tango & Cash is a fun movie. Sometimes you don't want deep, introspective or layered character development. You just want some action, quips and lots of explosions. And this movie delivers that.
Considering the troubled shoot.... What a gem of a movie came out! Fun. Funny. Action. Cheese. Love it. Id even be ok with the idea of a sequel and bring these two elder statesman of action back together.
if ever there was an epitome of 80's action cheese, it's Tango & Cash. I absolutely love it though and Jack Palance was such an awesome over the top baddie =P
Taylor Lemoine Selma is beautiful but omg she’s got nothing on Teri. Teri was an absolute Goddess. She still looks amazing in her mid 50’s I follow her on Instagram as well as her daughter Emerson who is just as beautiful
The action was awesome for 13 year old teen! The lines were great and the soundtrack was top notch. I showed my boy who was born in 95 this movie...he absolutely loved it!! It hold up even now.
This was a great movie that aged like fine wine. Teri Hatcher was and still is the most beautiful woman on earth. I bought the VHS and then DVD just for her alone. The rest of the movie is just sprinkles on the cake. Great action and one liners. Glad to have it as the last action movie made in the greatest decade for action movies
James was one of the best “bad guys” ever. When I have that reoccurring nightmare about waking up in a bad 80s movie, the two bad guys always seem to be Brion James and William Zabka! 😂
Adam G Ed O’Ross was another good character actor who played his share of bad guys in 80s and 90s like Red Heat with Arnold Schwarzenegger Lethal Weapon, Universal Soldier, Itchy in Dick Tracy and Another 48 Hours with Brion James in 1990. The late Raul Julia was another good character actor and even if the movies were not the best he stole the show as a bad guy.
I'm even younger and remember this but I also had cool parents that would let me watch action movies since I could tell the difference between fiction and reality.
To me it sounded much closer to an English accent. I'm surprised people kept asking "Who played the Australian crook?" And I'm thinking, WHAT Australian? LOL...
This movie was brilliant, the troubled production and direction just added mojo to the final product, I think that some stuff was overdone or better said "exaggerated" but the overdose of testosterone of Stallone and Russell mach up
I recorded this on VHS in the late nineties as a young teenager when it was shown on TV late at night in the UK. Probably on Channel 4, they used to be great at showing films at night. just night time TV in general really
I love Tango and Cash. It's not perfect. But there's a lot of great stuff in it. We know about it's troubles, all the mess, and yet it was completed and released and successful. Stallone and Russell are awesome. Both title characters are great. The soundtrack and main theme are great. There are a lot of good action scenes, and I wish we got to have the best version of this film. I know there's a version that is incredible.
I worked with a theater director in Los Angeles about 10 years ago. I heard he worked on some movies in years past so I looked him up on IMDb. I was stunned to see he worked on one of my favorite action movies; Tango and Cash. I knew the movie had production troubles and I desperately wanted to hear a first hand account. When I asked him about his experiences on the film, this is what he told me. ”Kurt Russell was an absolute sweetheart. He was kind to everyone and lovely to be around. Stallone was a different story altogether. Sly wanted the luxury of the character to be shown on screen. So he had the production designers build him an entire house from the ground up. It cost a fortune. When it was finished, Sly went into the house, looked around for about 2 minutes and walked out, he hated it and had no intention of using it. All of the money spent on building that house was lost.” I just remembered while I was working on that same show, one of my fellow actors told me the best person she ever worked for was Pee-Wee Herman in ‘Big Top Pee-Wee’ and the worst person was Sylvester Stallone on “Rocky IV.’ Sly definitely has his enemies out there.
6:47 I've seen Tango & Cash at least 50x and Big Trouble in Little China 100x & it just occurred to me that this movie is a rematch b/T Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) & David Lo Pan (James Hong) though it is much more of an indirect fight than in BTiLC. Btw, James Hong was also in Blade Runner w/ Brion James (Requin in Tanyone & Cash).
Dragnet was an "audience favorite"? I thought it flopped because audiences weren't expecting a comedy. I loved it, though. The plot is like someone watched Cobra, realized how dumb it was, and decided to make a movie that embraced the dumbness.
Good call. I've heard some stories about Akroyd, his proclivities shall we say, and I wager that production was a test on the crew as well. Akroyd was the speaker at a vinyl collector event I attended with an old chum. To his credit, and undeniable charm, he stayed well after the presentation taking questions with great joy. He has an encyclopedic grasp of Blues and R&B history.
Nobody talks about this movie. When i was a kid i seen it at least 50 times. Love the chemistry and action.

So true and when it fails White males would be the blame not the shitty script, shitty acting and the overall SHITTY movie. It's exactly what happened with Elizabeth Bank's Absoluletly horrible Charlie's Angels.
All the badguys are males, there's no shooting, chase scenes happen in a Prius. Tango wins all her fights very easily, and everyone loves her, Cash is a perfect single mother who is also a lesbian and is also adored at her work at NASA and at home where her female child is being bullied at school for being black and female and single and gay. The principal is also a white fat gay hating man who coincidentally is also racist, and the kingpin boss the 2 protagonists have to arrest but can't because their white male chief is protecting the principal because the chief is also racist and a homophobe. The principal also has a secretary who puts up with being sexually harassed on every scene she's in but helps TnC because girls help each other out. In the end the secretary turns out to also be a single mother and a closet feminist, and join TnC as Love and they become TLC in the direct to digital netflix sequel.

This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I was 17 years old when this came out, but I LOVED this movie. I still watch it every now and then, and can quote every single one-liner in it. Classic 80s.

I didn’t know any of this and find it fascinating. Still, Stallone’s ego is no surprise. Certainly glad he’s mellowed in the last decade. Love this film. 80’s schlock at its finest.
Still wish he'd stopped at Rambo 4. Completely satisfying conclusion. Last Blood barring the last 20 minutes was...ok.
Jon Ericson I agree. It was...kinda forced, I felt. It started well, and his relationship with his niece was genuine, but it just tried too hard to bring the feels, and the ending was too over-the-top.

Man, I'd love another 40 minutes of Tango And Cash frenetic action! Even if a big part of that time was just fleshing out the characters, I'd still be into it. It's a great comedic action film, one of the best!

i loved Tango n Cash.. it was the perfect "Opposites" movie.. Stallone was the uptight, Business model of a Policeman,.. Russel was the brash no holds barred Streetcop... and they at least appeared to play perfectly off one another.. really enjoyed their chemistry.. and the movie..

This movie was a staple for me growing up. Regardless of all the antics behind the scenes. What a great 80’s film. The 80’s is my favorite genre of movie’s.

But dang, they were good. And you have to credit Sly Stallone. Brion James (he played the ponytailed English guy) said the set was so chaotic that he worried he would get fired. The first director was fired by the studio for going crazy with the budget. Arguments broke out so often that Sly had to break up quite a few and eventually was multitasking. He was producing, acting AND helping with the script so he helped out with quite a few of the one liners. My favorite is when he stuffs the grenade into Brion's pants and says "My little contribution to birth control." LMAO...
I also like when they were struggling to find weapons to fight Perret's bodyguards and he gave Cash a .38. "Aw, why is yours always bigger than mine!?" I started laughing. Then Tango sent me over the edge with "See ya later... peewee!"
I revisited this one recently. Very entertaining movie for what it is. I think these two actors, teamed together, actually worked. Kurt Russel and Sylvester Stellone are now iconic. Every movie since that time has copied this same premise. We love it. Same thing happening right now with copying what Quentin Tarantino does. "Hollywood".
Tango & Cash is a fun movie. Sometimes you don't want deep, introspective or layered character development. You just want some action, quips and lots of explosions. And this movie delivers that.
I was born in 81 so I'll always love this movie. Didn't know about all the problems it had though.

The action was awesome for 13 year old teen! The lines were great and the soundtrack was top notch. I showed my boy who was born in 95 this movie...he absolutely loved it!! It hold up even now.

This was a great movie that aged like fine wine. Teri Hatcher was and still is the most beautiful woman on earth. I bought the VHS and then DVD just for her alone. The rest of the movie is just sprinkles on the cake. Great action and one liners. Glad to have it as the last action movie made in the greatest decade for action movies

Adam G Ed O’Ross was another good character actor who played his share of bad guys in 80s and 90s like Red Heat with Arnold Schwarzenegger Lethal Weapon, Universal Soldier, Itchy in Dick Tracy and Another 48 Hours with Brion James in 1990. The late Raul Julia was another good character actor and even if the movies were not the best he stole the show as a bad guy.

This movie was brilliant, the troubled production and direction just added mojo to the final product, I think that some stuff was overdone or better said "exaggerated" but the overdose of testosterone of Stallone and Russell mach up

I love Tango and Cash. It's not perfect. But there's a lot of great stuff in it. We know about it's troubles, all the mess, and yet it was completed and released and successful. Stallone and Russell are awesome. Both title characters are great. The soundtrack and main theme are great. There are a lot of good action scenes, and I wish we got to have the best version of this film. I know there's a version that is incredible.
I worked with a theater director in Los Angeles about 10 years ago. I heard he worked on some movies in years past so I looked him up on IMDb. I was stunned to see he worked on one of my favorite action movies; Tango and Cash. I knew the movie had production troubles and I desperately wanted to hear a first hand account.
When I asked him about his experiences on the film, this is what he told me. ”Kurt Russell was an absolute sweetheart. He was kind to everyone and lovely to be around. Stallone was a different story altogether. Sly wanted the luxury of the character to be shown on screen. So he had the production designers build him an entire house from the ground up. It cost a fortune. When it was finished, Sly went into the house, looked around for about 2 minutes and walked out, he hated it and had no intention of using it. All of the money spent on building that house was lost.”
I just remembered while I was working on that same show, one of my fellow actors told me the best person she ever worked for was Pee-Wee Herman in ‘Big Top Pee-Wee’ and the worst person was Sylvester Stallone on “Rocky IV.’

6:47 I've seen Tango & Cash at least 50x and Big Trouble in Little China 100x & it just occurred to me that this movie is a rematch b/T Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) & David Lo Pan (James Hong) though it is much more of an indirect fight than in BTiLC.
Btw, James Hong was also in Blade Runner w/ Brion James (Requin in Tanyone & Cash).
Dragnet was an "audience favorite"? I thought it flopped because audiences weren't expecting a comedy. I loved it, though. The plot is like someone watched Cobra, realized how dumb it was, and decided to make a movie that embraced the dumbness.

Akroyd was the speaker at a vinyl collector event I attended with an old chum. To his credit, and undeniable charm, he stayed well after the presentation taking questions with great joy. He has an encyclopedic grasp of Blues and R&B history.
Crazy to find out of my all time favorite movies was a hot mess behind the scenes. After finding all of this out, glad there wasn’t a sequel😆
