    I LOVE Walt Disney and All things Disney. I Really Hate the Lies people say about him. But what people don't say is that Ub Iwerk stayed with Walt Disney from the Very Beginning . And ALOT of Walt's employees stayed through good and bad times. That to me says volumes about Walt Disney.

    Walt gave promotions and pay raises. He didn't join a union because he foresaw them being a force which takes advantage of its members. He was right.

    3) The reason those animators went on stike was because Disney demanded perfection. He was a bit authoritative for a number of reasons; animation back in those days didn't make profit so perfection was key plus the fact he only wanted quality. He knew only quality animation is the only way for the audience to be more receptive to longer animation movies.
    4) All of Disney's entites (the studios, theme parks, shows etc..) while successful, was never considered a "corporate" state....

    All the good things Walt brought to this world far out weigh any character flaws He may or may not have had.

    Walt Disney put people to work in an age when jobs were scarce. You can't please everyone all the time. The folks that recognize an opportunity when they see one, and are willing to work hard for their dream, did very well in this situation. He was a good boss and did his best. Nothing worse then crybabies.

    He wasn't The rumor is a slander against the man that originated from his involvement with a group that was anti-communist but left that group when it became clear that it was also racist and anti-Semitic as well. Walt sure as hell was not perfect but over all he was a good man and a great man. Some people just want to see evil where there is none.

    In any measure, nobody can get where he got with a completely clean slate. Life isn't black or white, is grey. And while being grey what really matters is what you actually do in life, for you and for others. What you feel and what you think is irrelevant if it's not translated in real life facts. Walt Disney may or may not have been antisemitic, but if all you can rescue from his life's work is that fact, then the problem is with you and not with Walt Disney.

    A man who was driven by ego & money. You guys defending him need to get a grip on reality. Working his employees from 7AM to 10PM without any overtime pay....you consider that ethical? The gal that voiced Snow White was paid $975 and under contract was not allowed to use her voice for hire for ten yrs? Translated, she never worked again. He was a relentless taskmaster and overly paranoid about communism. And he virtually broke the woman who wrote the original version of Mary Poppins. Don't be afraid to watch this series because you wanna snuggle with Uncle Walt's memories.

    • @austinklein1172
      @austinklein1172 6 лет назад +3

      Walt didn't nearly break Ms. Travers. She was hard to work with and wanted Mary Poppins her way and in the end you could see that she made the right choice in letting Walt Disney retell her story. And she as going broke she went the book money.

    (cont.) The Disney brand couldn't even be considered a corporation until the late 60's early 70's and keep mind Disney died in 1966. Like I said animation wasn't a big money maker back in those days and the Disneyland park relatively had a lot of flaws with it at the beginning. Believe it or not Disney never really a "rich" guy. He worked hard and ALL of his major successes from the beginning made it without going bankrupt because they survived on loans.

    In those days however, those weren't necessarily derogatory terms. My mother grew up in Kansas during the 1930s and 40s. She had no inkling that 'nigger' could be a derogatory term; It's just what they were called...nothing more, nothing less!

    there is always that serious work ethics in showbiz which keeps themselves to their work not to drug booze sleaze the way certain movies desperately show, not that those things are not part of showbiz, all over the world it is same principal, it is up to individuals to which side of their capability they want to go in with, if any profession was only one dimension, no work could have been done at all, be it any profession... machines, business's, stores ,space whatever...

    Not saying Walt was perfect either but I mostly blame the leader Union guy who was fueling the fire between Walt and his workers. The "guy" (as I'll call him) was a known antagonist in Hollywood at that time who only worked to target the rising names who owned big businesses in/around Hollywood. Disney was the next unfortunate VICTIM! As Disney's animation business grew it went rather smoothly until asswipe Guy came along.

    And how many non white mouseketeers were there in Walt's day? How many of his animated films included people of color and treated them with respect? Song of the South was incredibly racist and the actor that played Uncle Remus wasn't even invited to the films premiere.

    At this point I personally believe Disney should have done everything to work with "Guy" since having Unions (back in those days unlike today) benefited the company as it helps bring (emphasize) the origanizational value to the pay system and a more fair pay to the workers that contributed more than say the less contributing workers. But what would you have done if you thought u had a genuine relationship with a handful of the animators AND the antagonist was there to disrupt that relationship?

  • @Adler36

    I can't say if Disney was an antisemite or not, although he was a member of an antisemitic (and anticommunist) organization for several years in the 40's and 50's) but you may have answered your own question. The Sherman's wrote songs for one of his most successful movies...why would he possibly hate them?

  • @POPCANA

    @PyroChemicals2 Ok, ok.
    1) Walt Disney didn't even come close to being a greedy man. Like I said he was very involved with Toys for Tots and I highly doubt that was his only charity work.
    2) Where's the proof he was out of touch with reality? Every project he accomplished became a big success and the ones that didn't make it was because of his death. Disney started new industries so who's to say his EPCOT idea would've been a bust?

  • @Adler36
    @Adler36 12 лет назад +1

    PLEASE ANSWER ME ONE THING: If he was really an antisemite, why was he so good friends with the Sherman Brothers?! They are both jewish! And Walt loved them! They wrote the amazing music for "Mary Poppins" and also a lot of other great songs for other movies, most of them for Disney. I'm sorry, but the idea that Mr. Disney could have been antisemitic or racist sounds really ridiculous to me...

  • @Adler36
    @Adler36 12 лет назад

    Well, Mickey Mouse is black. I have never seen a black mouse, only grey... The Cinderella version of 1997 features a multicultural cast, I seriously don't think he was racist... Richard Sherman said: "He was absolutly nice to anyone." "Looney Tunes" by Warner Bros. were racist, but Disney?! These are just animals, I don't think that they are stereotypes...

    Do you know what it means to work for a company or corporation? Most people have to sign statements with them at the time of employment and at the time of termination - because while you work their, it's THEIR shit you're working on.
    How do you think all those song writers who have been the ones to write the songs the "Stars" sing - yet they don't get the trophies - you gonna cry and laminate for them too?
    Where's their acclimation? Where are their awards? Booo-Wooooo- Waaaaa

    Funny that the black animator Floyd Norman was hired by Disney way back in the 50s when Blacks still had to use separate toilets or sit in back of the bus in many places of the US. Also the famous animator/director Bill Melendez(Peanuts cartoons) who is Hispanic worked for Disney back in the 30s. Floyd Norman says Disney was just concerned about the work people did and not what color their skin or what their religion was.

  • @Adler36
    @Adler36 11 лет назад

    Well, Wikipedia stated he left this organization after he realized it was not jew-friendly, but of course I don't know if there's real proof for that. I also read somewhere he won a prize or got some kind of exam of a jewish group for some charity stuff or something like that, can't remember it exactly sadly. Yes, at least the Shermans said in many interviews that they have been good friends with Walt in private, so I just assume it's true.

    You are confusing the way they were treated and thought of with the terms that were commonly used to refer to them by the general public who, admittedly, may have been ignorant of the intonations used with those words in the South.......two separate issues.

    @PyroChemicals2 Yeah because as we all know the 1950's Disneyland big machine corporation was "raping" the poor/middle-class and wasn't really a hit among the 4 to 9 years olds crowd. Yes, Walt Disney was soooooo out of touch with the kids BUT HIS OWN!! He was a very greedy man. His visions for EPCOT was the greediest of them all!! You see when Walt himself designed the Toys for Tots logo and his charity work with them (word is) it reallly was to promote Disneyland!!

      +milposs There is some truth behind this, but this doc has spun these "secrets" of control. I, too, have a deep admiration for Walt. He was someone with millions of dollars that shared it with us when he created his park in the midst of the Vietmam war, civil unrest, the realization of corruption in our gov, etc. Just leave it all behind when we stepped through that gate. Magical!

    @PyroChemicals2 Oh please, during that same time Ronald Reagan was more anti-Communist than Disney was. And your hyper focusing of this part of his life, why? Both sides the Union leader (forgot his name) & the leader's minions and Walt Disney went about it all the wrong way.
    I guess you don't this fact; There was many occasions when Disney was driving through the parking lot with his daughters and the workers (not that close to Disney) were shouting at him scarying his girls.

    So the several Disney Employees who admitted Walt asked bout Dark skin Animator and fired him later are just making it up . Unless you were there it's kind of silly to assert he wasn't a racist .

    In addition his Artists had to STRIKE for recognition and pay . So why did they strike in the 60s if their Raises and promotions were so cool . He also used mafia thugs to break up Protests , so your bizarre defense of this clown is even more ridiculous , right winger who hates unions
