We spent the last week building the Forgeworld T'au Manta. When we got the miniature it was severely warped. Were we able to build it anyway?

Why dont you cut the spare fire warriors and use them for a type of veical commander?
Another idea is doing a military type burial by having the helmets of the fire worriers on sticks behind the tombstones.
Tested showed off some wireless LED lights.
if you ever need to sand something use Scotch-Brite it makes the serfice rough but doesnt damage the model also its soft so it can do curves well
. at work we use it to paint car parts :)
A heat gun might help with warped parts. Awesome build, y'all have a badass day 🤘
For that price Forgeworld should've made sure each piece fit before sending it off. The price reflects that it's supposed to be a premium product. They even sent you a cracked part. Where's the quality control?
Its a joke. Would never buy
I mean. They should just make it in plastic 😜
@@SquidmarMiniatures are you gonna give an honest opinion at the end of the video series? I mean surely you cant be satisfied for what money you spent on it
@@SquidmarMiniatures you are a soldier for not giving up. I would have gone bonkers
@@SquidmarMiniatures Eh... That's not really viable for a product like this. Resin makes sense for low quantities since the molds are much less costly, but that does NOT excuse the abhorrent quality control on display here. Seriously, this shows that FW and GW are more than willing to treat their most devoted customers like dirt.
Really any other modeling company probably would have died from embarrassment and humiliation if one of the biggest creators in the hobbling scene posted this video. I mean just having that title, and that thumbnail must be a huge stain on the Forgeworld brand, who knows how many customers were lost just from this incident. But this is Games Workshop/Forgeworld we are talking about here, where there is absolutely no shame to be had. The fact that three months has passed, and given the view count it's basically impossible they missed the video, and still nobody at the company said "You know this is bad PR, we need to do something" really tells you all you need to know about GW/FW.
@Garth Macdonald Considering how good bandai gundam kits are for 200$ or the 300$ tamiya lancaster kit... which is a bit bigger than the manta. It's pathetic honestly. All the major players are better than this.
They probably consider Emil a competitor because he sells a few brushes.
But yeah... F.,k GW.
GW probably sees it and goes, “we made our money, so big whoop?” And then doesn’t acknowledge its existence.
Your comparing resin cast to polystyrene cast. Resin cast damn near always warps.
All those parts could have left the factory completely fine but as you saw they could bend it back with hot water. Resin can easily be affected by changes in temperatures.
They still could be to blame if they didn’t let the mold cool down enough before pulling the part out also
You're asking the wrong questions, it's not "can a model that costs over 2 grand be saved?" it's "why isn't the production quality of a model that costs over 2 grand perfect?"
If those idiots buy crap for 2k why bother about quality.
they cant sell $100 of material for 2000 if they dont rush out warped garbage
Imagine getting a £2000 model from tamiya or even airfix? You would be fuming and send it back surely?
if you want the quality you expect from it, it would cost 20grand and not only 2grand.
They do not produce millions of it, so every part has to pay a lot of the tooling cost at all.
The warping is shit for sure. Seems like the producer does not let em cool out long enough or the parts itself are not well designed to easily warp.
On the other hand, half of the cutting squidmar did, could be avoidable by put the parts together first, see whats not fitting, warp it back and then glue it. The way he did it, with every adjustment he made it harder for the next part to fit. You can see in the clip, that with every minute the differences get bigger and thats not essentially a problem of the material, but also how its been handled.
@@Kermitt_Frog I would cost 20K if it was plastic. There is not a huge tooling cost for resin. The molds last for 30-40 reproductions if they are not handdled by apes pulling and tearing them apart, so every 30+ Mantas (meaning 60000 euros) FW has to spend around 250 euros for silicone molds. Probably even less depending the brand of the silicone and the discount for buying bulk
This video perfectly illustrates why I'll NEVER purchase GW resin.
For the price they charge, I would expect a perfect fit every time, not an 80% failure rate.
This is why you should buy resin kits bootleg 100% of the time. You'll get way better quality than the official.
@@VictorJeraldo yup
No kidding this is horrendous. Never touching Forge World lol EVER
I remember when people tried using "It's for real modeler's" as an excuse lol
$2300 for all this warped, broken resin - it's a good thing I'm not getting any forgeworld lol
Yeah.
And they wonder why people go for third party works that are literally better casting quality.. I would have bought far more FW by now had I not had to EXPECT it to be in terrible shape and being right about it to a degree building a simple 8 part kit takes up to multiple hours of fixing and preparing often requiring special tools or other stuff I don't have at hand despite having a well-prepared toolbox that brought me through 10 years of building.. barely worth the frustration
Yup, this insures I won’t touch Forge World EVER
Printer go brr
I legitimately would not pay $230 for this.
GDub and FW: "These premium kits cost a mortgage"
Consumers: "That means they fit together really well right? Nice and easy to build?"
GDub and FW: *sweats*
They don't sweat. They simply don't care.
@@geteavnroc2250 not really true, whenever I had warped, miscast or missing parts in FW kits, replacement parts were recived within three work days of calling or mailing FW customer service.
And I don't live in the UK.
@@SonsOfLorgar if they cared, their premium kits wouldn't leave the factory with bad parts in the first place
@@SonsOfLorgar lucky you years ago i ordered a imperial guard kill team box from a games workshop catalog when i got it it was broken and missing bits sent it back was told we could not get a refund because it was missing parts in the end only got a partial refund and no kill team box

I don't want to take away from the creativity and hard work going into this project, because it's really cool, and I'm very excited about seeing it all come together, but it's pretty wild that one of the most expensive models FW sells is so poorly produced that you're better off chopping it up for terrain than assembling it as intended.
As for the Fire Warriors... build a Blood Bowl pitch and sit them in the stands!
Haha that's actually a fun idea 😅
ya its udnerstandable but to be fair to FW they do offer replacements for all the shit they might fuck up.

100% honest: For that price, this quality is embarrassing!
Indeed
I have had $20 Airfix kits fit better than this
@@H-to-O resin kits in general have a bit of a problem with warping and fitting together, but this thing costs more than a used car and no one cared enough to double check?
@@HowToPnP My guess is: low production run, large size = outsourced production to the lowest bidder.
@@louiscypher4186 for a product, that costs more than what most people make in a month.
Instead of just using LEDs, have a look at running optic fibre strands as well. That way you can have smaller light sources and your electrical wiring is a lot easier. Also, you can use RGB lighting down the optic fibre to create flickering effects vs sinister glows.
Could test making holes in the resin on an off cut using a really hot pin for the optic cable to go in.
@@TheFossilAcademy should work
@@TheFossilAcademy why would you do that? There are small drill bits for this purpose. Melting the plastic will leave a bulge and also isn't going to produce reliably repeatable hole sizes, a drill will clear the debris and always make the same size hole.
@@xTheZapper fair point, was just thinking how thin the diameter was of fibre optic cable, wouldn’t be a bulge after you’d sanded the face and thought it might be a quicker method, did say test it :)
I 1000% agree on using fiber instead of just small LEDs.
BUT
That said, are we seriously saying that the Manta is STILL on fire a decade after it crashed? I mean, its possible. If Manta fires are like underground coal seam fires then ok, but I dont see why they would. So if a ship is going to actually be on fire or throwing sparks or w/e a decade after it crashes, put some good thought into why, or it wont make much sense.
Technically, this is just a REALLY grand base for a single zenos model.
This is such a strange hobby at times, where buying a product costing in the 1000's comes with acceptance of 'oh there are faults and nothing fits but we can sort it', as opposed to, "oi you con people, give me a non faulty product" 🤣🤣🤣
You're probably right, but I'm having fun and I like a challenge 😁... Also who have time for drama.
Early Access product xD
@@SquidmarMiniatures Id have a blast with it too, as I love messing with the models, but man. Still unexcusable on GWs part. But hey, awesome vids for us and fun for you and your crew are the byproducts, so that's a win.
I would probably just accept it, which I agree is really weird :D Sanding, filling, cutting and fixing just feels like an integral part of the hobby.
@@jonashenriksson2182 #swedishreaction
Honestly, for how expensive this model is, I would had sent it back and asked for a new one, the amount of defects on your manta is unacceptable.
Considering the price of the models, it´s a joke that these kind of warped parts even leave production.
I was thinking the same thing, i can't believe gw can really get away with it
GW is a garbage company.
Literally needs a whole team to fix and construct this "mini". This would take me a lifetime. Great effort. Shame on FW for their efforts in quality control. Heat and warping are a thing with resin though??
@@H-to-O quite frankly yeah. It is a thing and a good company should know this
@@mudawott And if the Company cares, it can be mitigated. Easily even so. But that cost money, and GW is all about maximizing profit by all means.
For the Necron idea, maybe something subtle would work like a single Canoptek Acanthrite partially visible in a cavern, or 1-2 Scarabs at the bottom of the lake?
Imagine being GW/FW and thinking that your warped and damaged products are worth the premium prices you charge.
No wonder there is a huge re-casting industry.
Imagine being recaster who did absolute best copies of this shit, but clients complain about quality of your resin and molds, because their manta has same problems as on video. Poor recasters.
@@denisgulyakin5262 most recast is actually better than FW
It's like the game industry where ppl fix the products for them, the recasts probably aren't even this warped.
You should add extra bits onto the drone like he has added them on over time. Maybe a lazer for cutting things, or some sort of scanner thing
Should definitely add some reactor core leakage around the manta with either some neon light underneath to make it glow or use really bright neon colours!
Also I'm still hoping that my Lictor hiding in plain sight due to camoflauge aka painting him like the background idea get's in the final project, lictors are one of my favorite 40k models and it's rare to see them as minis do what they do in the lore, camoflauge almost so perfectly you can't see it even with space marine tech
this is an A1 tier comment
I can't believe you paid $2,300 and it came that badly warped. That's a fair amount of money for such horrible quality control.
even if it had insane quality control it would still be very expensive, let alone with seemingly none
Any company that wouldn't replace the faulty parts, especially the cost of the model in the first place, they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Glad you showed how bad it was.
FW do replace bad parts, and you don't even need to return the bad ones.
Complete crap that they don't do QC in the first place though.
The amount of work it takes to fix a product that supposed to be a premium one is outrageous. Hell, you shouldn't have to fix it in the first place.
Anyways, it's amazing that you managed to make it work, great job.
Indeed. But holy fuck, one centimeter of overlap is RIDICULOUS.
This is truly awful quality control, indeed. Impressed he could handle it, but I pity any fool who spends this much to get this level of crap production
When you said you’d wash the parts with IPA, I thought I’d never considered using beer to clean resin…
There is a beeer called Isopropyl Alcohol  ?
Yeah, buddy is big on resin printer and everytime he mentions IPA my mind goes to beer...
@Beerenmüsli Now that is just fucked up :D
Would a de greaser work? I use it to clean oil barrels covered in grease and oil before painting them, and it pretty much strips the paint off just from spraying it on the metal. You just spray and wipe and the paint comes right off including any oil on top of the paint. Its not great if you dont want to strip paint under the oil or grease though. This is just a standard de greaser from any auto store. If it can strip literal oil and paint off of metal in one spray, I assume it would work? It definitely isn't ipa though as it doesn't have that smell. It is some sort of chemical concoction that absolutely destroys oils and leaves surfaces feeling like they were just sanded. Wouldn't doubt if it causes cancer though. Most auto chemicals do.
@@domnoya4130 might annihilate your resin or other materials sounds very harsh
The background story: Perhaps some of the Fire Warriors on board your Manta managed to escape the crash via emergency escape pods in board.
My idea: You or someone else can design a 3D printer file of a Mantra themed Escape Pod. Then you could give away the extra Fire Warriors and make the 3D print file for the escape pod available for download.
This way several others could paint up a part of the model and display it on their shelf of models in the escape pod - or out of it and surviving in their own mini diarama on whatever planet or ship it managed to take the occupant to.
It would become the "largest" 40K themed diorama with the "furthest spread out parts" in the world!
It could even be used as another charity fundraiser.
That is a hard to arrange, but amazingly cool idea, I’d love to be part of this

Make a few red ones to mark when one of them died. So at the start there are a lot but over time less and less.
Was thinking that very thing
I've been into cast resin Garage Kits for little over a decade. For a company the size of GW to sell a model at that ridiculous price, cracked and warped parts simply should not happen. I've bought kits of a similar size from individual hobbyists that were both 10 times the quality and less than a quarter of the price.
If I were you I'd have sent it back and demanded a refund.
maybe FW gets them produced by some cheap thai resin shop? the only times I've seen resin being cast that bad was when buying hard to find resin recasts off of some thai ebay shop
I heard there are recasters that make better products than forgeworld themselves
@@nian89 that isn't hard xD Just get one of those things, repair every part and recast it properly. If you deal with resin correctly, there's almost no chance it comes out that broken

@@nian89 Most every recaster I've run across produces beter.
You could hold a contest and send out the extra warriors. people paint them and send them back and you can create another diorama. the new one could be a team that came to rescue the lone warrior but got swallowed themselves by the jungle
I´ve not actually assembled or played with a Warhammer miniature for over 20 years but Im shocked by the state of things they send out. Like the amount of warping, trimming needed etc made me think you´d 3D printed it yourselves but this was sent out!?! fuck that! Do they not have any pride in their product? I´d be fucking embarrassed!
Don´t think you can say it this way. You know... 3D printing has become really good. ;-) But yeah, for this price? What an embarrassment!
As an idea, you could have a smaller tau ship, (say a sunshark) that was acting as part of the Mantas escort; it got shot down too and now acts as a decrepid watchtower for the lone surviving fire warrior.
This is an amazing project you're working on and I can't wait to see it completed!
As a long time model maker 30+ years and 15 years as a car painter I would strongly recommend that you try 2k automotive primer
Forge world resin tends to sweat out release agent and oils for a long time, unfortunately one scrubbing is usually not enough. I typically scrub everything, plce in a box or drawer for a week and then take it out and its slimy again. Then i wash it second time and its usually ready to go then. Bad luck that you got this problem on such an ambitious model project!
Keeping fingers crossed for this table, its gonna be awesome!
12 hours of labor after you get your $2000 model, seems fair and fun
Its not release agent, the problem probably is in the mix of A and B components of the resin. When you dont mix the exact amounts (by weight or volume) you get an oily resin that has difficulty to accept paint.
The release agent is real pain in the ass, and I ususaly use two methods to fix the problem. The first is using agrume based solvents wich can be diluted up to 10% in tepid water and let it soak about 2 days. The solvent proved to be hignly efficient against any release agent I encountered with no high toxicity. PU resin are very reselient again most of the chemicals you can throw at them. The only one product able to melt it is near impossible to buy as its toxicity is far too high for non-professionnal use and too complicated with its waste management.
The other solution I found for big bits is quite an extremist one and proves to be HIGHLY DANGEROUS. But its efficiency being equal to its danger level... It is soaking the big bits in a slightly water diluted caustic soda bath. To cleanse it from CS residues, pieces need to be rinced with a mix of water an acetic acid (household vineager - acid neutralizing the basic CS, and makes the bitz grippy very quickly) This method was succefully used on FW Zone Mortalis tiles wich resisted all form of washing and were previously unable to get paint stuck on it, the paint simply and purely stripping away in large flakes... NOT recommended for beginners or people unfamiliar with handling hazardous chemicals, and NOT INSIDE your appartment of course, requires the use of a face shield, googles and special chemical resistant clothing and gloves... Extreme conditions demand extreme responses...
When I built my Warlord I had tremendous trouble with the paint coming off with the tape, no matter how long I scrubbed it, cleaned it etc. The only solution I found was to hit it with the airbrush to cover the gaps. brush on some 'Ardcoat and then hit it with the matte varnish to remove the shine. It was heinous. I still want to have a crack at building the manta as a hobby challenge but I have to say those huge forgeworld kits will 100% test your patience more than your building and painting skills. Buyers Beware
Its just not okay for GW to sell a mini that is SO warped, when it costs that much!!
It’s disgusting to sell a product of that quality for such a high price. To the average Joe that would be impossible to build because of all the faults, it would basically be junk.
they are a shitty company who dont care
Great build, but it's kind of convinced me to never buy Forge World.
I'm sorry to be blunt, but you're a mug for accepting it like that. That is appalling, pre-production quality. You should have demanded a refund. If Forge World think it's OK to send out stuff like that, they're outright con artists.
watch gw fanboys actually defend this quality.
🤷♂️
At this price a refund should be a minimum.
It would be a questionable purchase at $200, much less $2300. I bought metal stuff from GW 15-20 years ago but not the finecast trash.

I would like to see the lone surviver have some kind heavy weapon turret setup for protection of his camp. maybe one salvaged from the Manta. I also loved to see something like from the movie Enemy Mind. how 2 opposing sides have to work together to survive. maybe a lone space marine or regular human. that crashlanded there to. now they have become friends due to mutual respect from surviving together. IDK I love the droid idea to.
And with the chest of a crisis battle suit and some camo lether make the little camp, with some plants over the chest plate
Gotta give you credit Emil and the other gentlemen at Squidmar minis, I would have called up FW and chewed them out for the quality of the manta. Looking forward to seeing this project fully finished can't wait to see the end result.
I like the idea of the workbench being made out of salvaged parts of the Crisis suit and stuff, like the chest piece being the work area and using the weapons as wielding tools or something?
The best thing about this video is showing people what working with resin is like, I’ve not had one model yet that didn’t require straightening or sanding.
The oily feel on the parts is because of "bad" resin they did not mix the resin in the right amounts this is becoming more and more common with ForgeWorld these days and it seems to be more so with the bigger more super expensive stuff as well. People have been talking about this for a while as well. They call ForgeWorld up they tell them to clean it and they keep doing it over and over again.
Ouff, is there a way to confirm this?
@@SquidmarMiniatures Not sure tbh I have seen people say this from time to time. It seems to be more so an issue with bigger models. I know The Outer Circle talked about this a good while ago. It happened to one of his friends or someone he knew. Maybe reach out to him if you can he might know more about it or at least give an example of it happening to someone he knows. Going by your video yours doesnt seem to be nearly as bad as others when it comes to the oily look/feel. It should be ok though :-)
@@SquidmarMiniatures Yeah, if the parts remain sticky or slimy after a good wash to remove any possible remnants of mould release agent, there's something wrong with the resin, having caused it to not cure properly. Most probably the resin components either weren't mixed in the proper ratios or the ratios were correct but the mixing of them wasn't thorough enough.
@@actualwafflesenjoyer Yes but not in this case. This has been an issue with some ForgeWorld models or bits and in extreme cases you will see weeping from parts. This case isnt that bad at all tbh. most mold release comes off with little effort. I also know people in the past who would do casting stuff for cosplay etc... this was never an issue and isnt an issue with smaller companies as well. Only seems to be ForgeWorld.
I had that happen with a 1:1 aliens pulse rifle replica i got, it came from a guy everyone says had the best but apparently it was lazy day at the place when they cast it.
you are so chill wth the quality of the resin model. i would call the producer and scream loud and angry at the phone to fix my REALLY REALLY EXPENSIVE Model!
Sad to see that ForgeWorld haven't really fixed their QC problems over the years.
It would be great to see a Crisis Suit overgrown and blended into the forest like Bastion from the Overwatch Animated Short | "The Last Bastion"
what i learned from this video. this kit is not worth the cost, and also i need one of those tamiya saws
Those "oily" parts aren't mould release. That's improperly mixed resin. Over time they will continue to weep like that and debond the paint layer. There's not really anything you can do to prevent this from happening so the best thing you can do is ask for replacements for Forge World's poor quality control.
Man I feel a little bit of the pain you've gone through. I bought an Astraeus Superheavy a few months ago, and a lot of my parts were warped, or had parts just plain un-filled in during the casting process, so there are small gaps of resin missing along the main body. Frustrating as all hell.
This exact vision is why I didn't buy it yet. Literally easier to build it myself from scratch than to bring up the money and repair it
@@wolfie54321 I thought about it, but with how long shipping takes (especially in the past year), and the (apparently very real) possibility of getting another bad part, I figured it just wasn't worth the hassle.
@@Sarg-zm6jy And that is why they get away with it. UK has customer protection laws. If the parts are warped, i will send them back and demand straight new ones and no i'm not paying for the shipping. If its resins fault, then chance the material, hell go back to metal castings or plastics if there is that much warpage issues.
I was thinking on getting a army, but GW has convinced me not to bother wasting money on them. Maybe could print a army, but i would still need all the rulebooks etc so no. Until GW pulls head off their ass and starts to treat customers like customers, not walking wallets or consumers not to mention all the bullshit with fan animations and other crap they have pulled they wont be getting penny from me until there is actual chance in the company that is legit and not just some PR stunt. Real support for fan animations and dropping price a bunch or increasing quality to correspond with the price.
Bent resin for a $2300 model just makes 3d printing more attractive.
nice to see the same quality control goes into their mega expensive "premium" line of models as goes into their codexes

A no armed one legged dreadnought that’s still alive that he had a chair next to and a few books or paintings. He’s made “friends” with the only other sentient thing (that he knows about)
For the Necrons you can simply make the bottom part deep in the earth one massive layer of obsidian with necron insignias to give the impression of a not awakened tomb under the surface
Or bottom peace like in ant farms or mining dioramas where there is whole necron tomb under the manta and necrons are awakening due the crash, but its necrons... few decades to wake up is nothing to them.
Really enjoyed this was in the mood for Squid.
I'd be ashamed to sell a product of this quality, the fact they sent something so flawed out to a youtuber with nearly 350k subs is just mindboggling.
Glad you're having fun and making it work, but man....I would be SO mad that the largest mini that GW makes came in that kind of quality.
Seems like the Tau need to invent the Gellar Field. You know, to prevent warp corruption.
The amount of patience and care you guys put in is admirable , well done for all the hard work! :)
You can tell that I'm a bartender that when he said he would be washing it with IPA I thought "wait you're gonna clean it with beer?"
Man this is absolutely insane. If you guys are making light effects, you should really consider making some kind of Day/Night cycle effect, where lights and shadows differ depending on a switch. That'll be hard, but im sure you guys can do it :)
You would think for as expensive as it is there would be way more quality control. I would be livid if i spent that much and received a model like that in such poor condition
For that price the lack of QA for something that size is disgusting. I'd personally be asking for a portion of my money back.
Had a cool idea, where a crisis suit could maybe hang from the ceiling, maybe in pieces, like only the torso and 1 leg 1 arm maybe. Head could be on the workbench. Think it would make the whole thing feel like he is actually working on it!
Great stuff man, cant wait to see it when its finished!
For this price and quality I expected a lot better. I thought there would a lot more of these. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
People underestimate the benefit of a good key.
The sanding you did is what you needed for good adhesion. Extremely impressive project 👍
wow the amount of fixes you had to do for this model is pretty insane, thankfully it will turn into a diorama and not a play piece so anything can be modified to fit the scene, but i do wonder how many has experienced this when they bought it. or if you have been especially unlucky
Use remaining fire warriors as a food for tyranid eggs! The story would be that more than one warrior survived the crash, but all remaining disappeared one by one in tragic/mysterious circumstances (they could've been captured by genestealers too)
You could use one of the extra fire warriors and put in the tyranid nest to insinuate what happened to the rest of them that didn’t die in the crash
Know you're on your Manta project right now but since I know you love really good miniatures and the like I figured I would share that I got an Armorcast Cathedral terrain piece delivered in the mail today.
It is BEAUTIFUL, one slightly warped roof panel and maybe one of the triangle wall bits might be warped or it might just be an intended curvature to the structure. All n all the level of detail is fantastic to me and I look forward to putting it together. Going to have to bone up on proper resin procedures before hand as I do not want to rush it by any means.
Look forward to seeing more on your Manta and other content in general. Take care!
I like the idea of adding more factions, so everyone can be like, "Hey my favorite army is somewhere in here, and when they play they with "x" army they have an narrative basis. I mean why not you already have alot of them, also my Orks want some of the spotlight!
I really like how you guys work as a team, what an awesome crew !
Im super curious where this is going and how it'll look when done. But this definitely convinces me to never order forgeworld. I'll 3d print anything I want from them if this is their quality control.
please have a camouflaged sly marbo just scouting the area in deep cover
You would think for an item that is individually made to order at such a high premium the QC would be a lot better 🤷
Hi Emile I'm not a subscriber but sort of picked up Squidmar from watching Guy on MDM. I have to say you must be St. Emile for your patience. Whatever the cost both the thunder hawk and the Manta would be in the bin by now if I were building them, and both GW and FW would be getting letters as to why their expensive toys have worse worse quality control than 1970's Airfix modelling kits that I grew up with. The ranges are expensive enough for ordinary hobbyists without supposedly premium products being so bad you can't build them without having to remould etc. I think you are right it just goes to show how little the manufacturer values it's loyal customer base. After 30 years in sales of all kinds, there are simple things even I could teach WH in terms of customer satisfaction. Maybe after nearly 40 years they are taking us for granted. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy the diverse and random nature of the channel.
Honestly the fit and quality control at Forge World is pitiful.
I bet the 3 D printer recast crowd has better quality control than Forge World does.
The necron idea is amazing and all it needs is one glowing symbol somewhere underground! It's telling a story and foreshadowing at the same time.
One idea to push the whole LED topic to a next level: By using an Arduino or so, you can make the light flicker randomly (for the lab) or slowly build up and down glowing (e.g. for a necron symbol). This would give the whole scenery more life, though it requires a permanent power source.
For $2300 that thing should come clean and wrapped in silk. GW dgaf
Edit: I'm sorry. My first reaction shouldn't be bashing GW but congratulating you on your persistence with this model. You're making it happen despite all the hurdles put in front of you!
No, your first reaction was correct. GW and Forge World shouldn't be selling 2k miniatures with this many defects.
Gaia Notes makes a soak wash specifically for resin parts: T-03m Resin Wash. If you can't get that use Purple Power Degreaser, or a similar water soluble degreaser. Gaia Notes resin wash works great on all the resin mecha & figure kits I've built & painted using it. IPA is really really sketchy for cleaning resin. It works, but if you have a part you need to soak, it'll start turning the resin into a soft & gummy mess. Priming, get something harsh & aggressive with an etchant, like a lacquer primer. Something that will chew into those first few nanometers of surface and lock in the paint.
My Reaver Titan took 6 washes to get all the release agent out. Then I had to put the body in the oven at about 110c to get enough heat it to pull it out straight enough. I can only imagine how bad this is
Ouff, that's rough. I just hope the paint will stick 😵
@@SquidmarMiniatures yeah it 7 years ago and many games later. Legio Ignatum is going strong 👌
I normally fill a bucket with hot water and tons soap, then drop all the parts in and wait a week before taking each part out and scrubbing in another tub of hot water. Have worked for me so far.
Oh no! I heard about this on play on! I have always wanted one ever since i first saw forge world. It broke my heart when i heard yours was so warped! I hate that it warps, but at least it isn't metal!
Love getting to see you work on it!
Imagine a new MacBook Pro with a trackpad that is not working, cracked monitor, processor that heats up like crazy, battery problems, OS with a series of bugs... and you're like: "Hey, I like the challenge, I will fix everything by myself."
This is just an awful product by FW and the price is horrendous for a piece of plastic trash. Much respect to the videocreators and hobby community for investing so much time and money, making such an epic project out of it.
I recently watch a video of model maker with more then 40 years in hobby, where he described he’s feeling of “magic like it was in his childhood” when he was assembling airplane from Tamiya (Mustang P40) - level of detail, engineering, precision, everything was on the level of art, not “just some pile of plastic”. He was telling about how he has enjoyed process of building the model and how it was inspiring for him….and then this “premium product”… I can understand “enjoying ascetics”, but at some point you should ask yourself if it worth it. I better buy 5 perfect grades from Bandai, than 1 model like this. IMHO.
@@Zaoresor I mean, even two 3d printers and a couple kg/liter or 3d printing supplies would be better than this
@@wolfie54321 ruclips.net/video/3oH9VDBlmBs/видео.html - I like this maker, he takes 20-40$ models and create incredible detailed handmade models with as much depth as you can only only wish. And this is with just “mass produced plastic kit”. I’m not expecting “handmade, extremely expensive kit” to be perfect, but some level of QC is expected. I don’t really care if this product is 20 years old, GW have resources to improve their molds and models, they even can use 3D printer to create this models. Almost all videos about Forgedworld products have similarities- warped parts, missing parts, bad instructions - and all this is about products 10 to 100 times more expensive then average plastic kit from Tamiya or Bandai. Yes, I like to buy Titan for myself, because there is nothing like that (maybe some resin Gundam kits, but they have different ascetics), but at the same time it’s possible to buy 3d printer and print analog with roughly same quality for less money…. And we can create any level of complexity in our projects as we wish.
you should make some sort of mutated fish with tyranid parts mixed into deepkin models for inside of the lake
For your protection you should all being wearing respirators when working with resin. It’s probably to late now but you should probably look into this known health issue. Thanks for the content.
You aren't kidding. We do knife making and any kind of resin and bone dust will shred your lungs and throat. Learned that the hard way when i was younger and I'm still prone to throat infections. Wouldn't hurt to be wearing it with super glue use either.
I've always loved how nature is able to go through anything, so I was thinking, what about this:
-One of the wings of the manta pierced by a big tree, and you can clearly see the cables and rest of the ship along the trunk of the tree as it progressively grew overtime.
if not, another idea could be to have one little pond of fuel/acid that spilled from the ship so the dirt around the pond could be corroded and burnt but still some resistant alien fungi/mushrooms grow on the sides of the pond as they don't care what it is they are strong as heck.
Your dedication is inspiring. Personally i would have tried to send it back and get my money since it seemed unsalvagable by all the warping.
You are a grand master of positivity or editing. If I was working on that, there would be so much colorful language.
So much for quality craftmanship.... what an insult for the price your paid.
everytime someone mentions IPA in a crafting video i'm like "why are they using beer?" and then, reality catches up.
Ah. Quality product from forge world like always. I’ve never ordered something I didn’t have to spend to significant time fixing or having them replace because they were bad casts that never should have left their facility.
@@H-to-O I stopped buying from them a long time ago. Last order from forgeworld was years ago but if they’re the only provider of something you need then well you don’t have much choice.
Such an epic project. Not sure I would be brave enough (or rich enough) to tackle something like this. Thanks for sharing!
I would’ve sent it back and asked for my money back. 2K for a heap of warped parts, no thanks.
$2300 for this? For that price it should come prepainted and fit perfectly like LEGO. With that amount of effort you could have sculpted it on your own.
Always thought FW should really remove the mould release coating off of pieces and sprues before sending it off as product. Its a hassle you really shouldn't have to deal with as a customer and its a lazy business practise.
More so for one of the most expensive kits they do but hey apparently a couple of grand won't save you some additional labour
You are legit one of the most entertaining entertainers and talented magicians on RUclips thank you for all your hard work
I truly appreciate it mate, thanks
Put a little Kroot Hound in to be the Taus friend
Had mold release problem on my Thunderhawk and what finally fixed it for me was actually spraying the model with matt varnish before laying down the basecoat.
for this price tag it really does not makes me want to buy it (not that I would :P) but the quality control is totally unacceptable :( Kuddos for the work you put in to make it fit !
You guys illustrated the two biggest problems I have with Forge World. The release agent, and the warping. I bought a Mastodon from them a while back, and it's infuriating to pay 500+ dollars for a model and the pieces don't fit properly. Let alone a 2000+ dollar model. If anyone is spending that much on a product, every single piece should be damn-near perfect.
This guy is sounding more and more like he signed an NDA everyday. I know no other hobby where you'd spend this money and get such a shit product.
1) he didnt really payed for it with his own money 2) he is going to make the same or even more money from the youtube content he is going to produce even in a diorama form 3) Just wait until he auctions it and gets 3x the money as an added revenue.
You could place the various vehicles that came with the kit broken down around the Manta. The aim being to make it look like the survivors of the crash used them to explore the planet initially until they all broke down
