I just started riding and I'm 47 yrs of age - I wish I had started when I was younger. Seeing that you chose the 1000R inspired me to look beyond the stereotypes of cruisers. Thank you! Your video is the best and most objective review I have seen. 👍
Got mine just around 3 years ago (2016/black, like yours). I added a few mods (full akra, tail tidy, lighttech chain adjuster, CRG bar end mirrors & weights, hyperpro RCS damper), and after 3 years I still love it and will use any excuse to get on it. My previous bike, is a Kawi ZRX1200R ('04).
I’m 68 and am on my second S1k. Both 2014’s, very low mileage. Put on Sargent seats among other mods. I just got my second one a month ago with 1,300 miles and paid $7700. Seller tossed in a new in the box Shoei Neotec helmet which retails for what $600?
Your kick stand extender from China was $9! My was $18! I got ripped off. 😆 I put the blaze system on my first bike and added the Ventura for the rear. Two bags with a rack and the bags slip on the rack and zip together. I could carry 80% of what I could carry on my K1300GT. Now I just have a RKA tail bag and Wunderlich tank bag, the both very cleverly designed mounting. Got a deal on close out on the Wunderlich sliders and got an extra puck tossed in. The original owner put in mini turn signals and crappy Rizoma mirrors. On my previous I had Wunderlich mirrors with extenders and risers. Very cool looking AND practical. Rizomas are cute but functionally a joke). I put on R&G case protectors after I dropped the damn thing, so they covered the scrapes. I put on heavier bar ends to dampen vibration (though I hear later models had far less out the showroom). On my current iteration I just have bar ends, sliders, seat and two small bags. I do not plan to travel. Maybe the suspension was improved but the ride on my ‘14 on “soft” is not soft. I had both the K bike and R but now I just got a 2016 R1200RS for 50% retail and it came with Wunderlich engine guards, Aeroflow touring screen, BMW tail bag, other mods. By buying from a private party the Illinois “sales tax” on motorcycles is $25. I always look for private sales. Better prices and no sales tax. Even used bikes from a dealer are full sales tax, bought in or out of state. I’m going for a ride on my S tomorrow, but getting up at crack of dawn as the whole month of July is gonna be 90 plus degrees and humid. I think I can do okay up until around 11:00 a.m.
Going on 73yrs. and been riding since 2011. I ordered a 2024 model no DDS or electronic suspension due to being 215bs. without leathers. Found a manufacture that will make cartridges for the forks. The reason I didn't want electronic is I ride canyon and will do occasional track days. The electronic suspension does not work on tracks. I'm glad I'm not the only older rider still riding bikes. I have tested 3 used S1000R's, 2015,2016 and a 2023, all had vibration issues in the bar, left side more than the right side on the earlier ones. Any vibration on yours? OK, now you are into flying, I also fly single engine and sailplanes here in San Diego. Looking for a Commander 114B and fly until I can't afford the insurance any longer. Thank You. Joe
Thanks Mark. I've been meaning to do a part 2 because there were several things I forgot to mention and one is important. I've had the bags on for a while and will talk about them.
Good news guy, that boltto be tighten up and then you said it stripped? Not sure that is possible. Originally the bolt was meant to be tighten to 2.5 pounds and then the 90 degree twist was to break the bolt and lock it. You could not have stripped the thread because the bolt would break. The bolt broke alright. It bent and broke. The bolt is acting like it is the thread stripped but the bolt is broken and the bend is holding it in place. Remove the cover and tap out the broken end and add a new bolt. Only on the new bolt or bolts (if you do all new) tighten to the spec and then break the new bolt with the 90 degree turn, locking it in
Good point...I must say watching your video really narrowed down my choices. I came from a Hayabusa being my first bike and in two years I put 75,000 miles on my baby. That was 2009 and now I am ready for another bike, I was thinking of a cruiser but from some reason it did not feel at home for me. So when I heard your age and your bike I am ready for the smaller liter bikes. I heard of the BMWs but never got on one, but I love the look of the s1000r over the Super Duke and the RSV4. I am 5'10" 210lbs I wonder would this bike be too small? Tell me your thoughts. Plus service and cost to maintain are a big factor.
Don't think the bike would be too small. You're a little taller than I am and weight more, but the bike has computer controlled suspension that is fully adjustable.

Maybe the best review of this bike ever, just for the info of you at the start and all the details! Congrats and please do more bikes!

I think it's just really cool that you choose to ride this particular bike at your age. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I have the same bike from 4 months. Black, 06/2016. My first bike of ever. Love.
Mine is running great. About 7k miles. Rick

Hey Joe. I riding a Livewire 2021 now. The Bmw handled better, but I like the noise level and no gas and oil hassles better with the livewire. Rick
Best bike I have ever ridden. I’ll own one someday.
You're right about the brake fluid reservoir. I have this bike and swapped out the reservoir for a Rizoma unit. Much better loooking.
I am just a shade under 40, and i think i'll buy this machine before i go with the fairingwindscreen oldsmobile like an RT
Hi Richard great video. When you receive and install the saddle bags can you provide us an in depth review. Thanks Mark.
Thanks Mark. I've been meaning to do a part 2 because there were several things I forgot to mention and one is important. I've had the bags on for a while and will talk about them.
I’m considering a 2019 model, coming from a 14 FZ-1 👍🏻
I did the same thing. FZ-1 to the S1000R. Just sold the S1000R. 9500 no issue miles. Going electric. Rick
What a beauty! Thanks for the good advices ;)
thanks for the review Richard

Only the head stripped. No big deal. I just left it in place rather than extracting and replacing it. Rick
Thanks for the review. I'm also considering the s1kr along with the r nine t.
Love the bike. No issues. Don't like the motor on the r nine t.
Thank you for making this video
You got a deal ..I searched for 4 months and paid about 1600 more for my s1000r
Where did you get such a sweet deal? I'm in the market for a new bike
Nice bike, great review, ty.
Just wondering new for BMW, why are the headlight different in shape in general? New sub here and will be watching your next motovlog.
Thats the case with all BMW motorcycles. That's their trademark asymmetric design!
Is the bike jerky at low speeds under 4000rpms? And is it surging at constant speed?
No. Very smooth throughout the full rpm range. Rick
This bike still treating you well?
Still love it. About 5k miles now. Riding to the airport this morning to fly. Rick
Hey Dude did you ever consider the Aprilia RSV4?
I did not. I stay away from exotics like the Aprilia's and even Ducati's. Hard to get in Albuquerque and even harder to service.

How about insurance?
Richard Sigler smart!!!
Trust me. You must be very, very careful when choosing this bike. Because it will transform you into a hooligan.
can't hear u ._.
Sorry, but fine from this side and no others are having problems. Your equipment?
Yes I am having problems hearing you. Speak up. Can't hear you.
Sorry about that. I should have used better equipment rather than my phone. I'll switch if I don another.
Clear and easy to understand
Ssssss!
