Thank you for your high quality and thorough explanation of this style of congregation playing. I stopped studying piano midway through college about 30 years ago and have started back with formal lessons since the beginning of the pandemic as a result of your RUclips videos. Your tutorials and hymn sessions have encouraged me to reacquaint myself with the piano and have experienced improvement in my playing
Very well explained! I try to play this way sometimes but I mostly just picked it up from watching people play. Never seen anyone just break it down like this
Thank you Ma'am for this tutorial, it helps me enhance my piano playing in our Church. It is more helpful for me if I could download your songbook , I'm pretty sure there's more songs I could be able to learn and play. Thanks a lot and may God bless you more.
NatalieRaynesmusic what detailed tutorial I appreciate it greatly this goes above and beyond my expectations in answering my question. THANK YOU SO MUCH. now to sit down at the piano with your video and break it down step by step. I can't begin to express my gratitude. Thanks again Jeff
I have been eagerly awaiting this tutorial! It was so helpful! I feel like I struggle adding variety to my left hand playing especially. Thank you so much! Would love to see a tutorial about what you do with your left hand for peaceful, invitational songs
I would love a tutorial on " You Are My All in All". I'm older and am quite comfortable with traditional hymn style . It's a little harder for me to keep the right tempo in some of the newer chorus type.
Thank you! Great info! I could use some direction on how to get the most out of my practice 🤔 Side note… that dress looks wonderful on you, perfect colors!!!
❤ Natalie, I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial for the Left hand chords and octaves... (Also I really enjoy your Request time ... your resent special sing with your sister and your long time family friend was especially inspiring to me! 😅 That was really nice!! Your hubby does a great job keeping everyone straight and in line😅)LOL If it would be ok with you, I'd like to send you ''a private message" to further explain my situation? Please let me know. Thanks, Phebe😊
Thank you so much for these tutorials! I'd find it very helpful if you did a tutorial on accompanying (hymns or other styles of music). I have a basic idea of how to do it, but it sounds so bland and doesn't flow. I'd also like to see videos on how to get that gospel style sound in your playing and how to play a song in different styles.
Very helpful , very much enjoyed this. As a Music Director I always deeply enjoy all your videos. I am a Music Director in the Catholic Church and the Worship Book we use has alot of wonderful songs and hymn tunes in it. I was wondering if, you could do a future video on hymn tunes "Amazon" which is associated with the hymn "O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing" and on the hymn tune called CWM RHONDDA that is associated with hymns like God Of Grace And God Of Glory, or Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah of how to play these hymn tunes with a majestic sound through out that these hymn tunes deserve.
@@NatalieRaynesMusic Thank you Natalie. I intend to do the course very soon, I’m having my piano tuned next week. I have a large span and find the fingering awkward. I started playing the piano at six then went to the organ at fourteen and have only played the organ at Church for over forty years, I’m trying to get back into the piano. Your tutorials are brilliant and your delivery explaining is excellent. Thanks so much
Thanks for sharing! Was wondering if you could do some kind of tutorial on the David Combs, Rachel's Song medley. I have purchased the book on line, and I am working hard to learn on my own to be able to play these peaceful pieces at the Nursing home. Once a month I go to play hymns and other quiet piano for about an hour. I purchased your hymn playing course so that I could learn to play arrangements better. I have a good understanding of chording, and after using a lot of fake book music by Hal Leonard I can pretty much incorporate chords and arppegiated chords into the left hand. However, I seem to have a hard time reading both treble clef and base clef at the same time, so I can't t seem to make arrangement flow like I want them to. The understanding is in my head, but doesn't get into my fingers🥴 I always do better when I see chord notations above the treble clef.
Love your videos Thanks you for the tutorial it really helped me to do better. Is it possible to teach how to do fingerings when the piano piece doesn't have fingerings to start on.
How do you keep your hands from running into each other using this pattern? It looks like you leave off playing the thumb note part of the chord if your hands will collide, or do you vary the position of the chord? I'm in Level 4 of the Henry Slaughter hymn course and he teaches this pattern and learning to play the full chord in both hands, but with the chord positions he originally taught in book 1, I'm having trouble with my hands running into each other. What do you suggest? Thanks
I have started filling in at my church for our pianist when she can't be there. I am not used to hymn playing, so your videos have been really helpful! I am thinking about doing the hymn playing course on your website. I have two questions before I do that though - 1, The hymnal we use is "best loved songs and hymns" which are in shape notes and they are a challenge for me to read. Have you ever used this hymnal and do you have any suggestions for that? 2, The hymn style my church is used to is similar, but a little different than your own. Do you believe I would benefit from your course even though the style I am working toward is a little different?
I’ve got an odd question: I play the piano, but am missing my left pinky finger. I don’t have the reach to play an octave in my left hand, could I achieve the same effect some other way?
