I just think you should know that i was just looking for easy beginner acoustic songs. I clicked you and immediately become responsive to your teaching. I was drawn so much I subscribed. Then realized you were a godly man. Just know Christ is drawing others through you.
Awesome brother. And yes them little ones keep you busy. I have five boys... One day you won't have to cut the grass or take the garbage out, lol. I retired from the USN last year. I was injured during my tour to Afghanistan and spent two years on a medical hold status. I took up guitar with a few other Wounded Warriors and we are loving it. It's great therapy too. God bless...
This song is me all the way,I'm unfortunately an alcoholic that feels less than nothing but this song and my wife get through day to day thanks for this lesson and all you do your videos are so uplifting
Thanks for the note brother but we gotta get you some help! I’m more into helping people live a good life than teaching them Guitar. I’m gonna pray God begins to work on your heart and puts the right people in your path to help you overcome your addiction. Hang in there brother!
Hi Matt. I just wanted to let you know that your work you doing here is fantastic! I tell you my long story short. Last November i was terrible on the guitar but i always kept at it and I seen one of your videos and it was crazy how fast I picked it up and after the video was over i went and showed my mom & dad what i had just learned and let me tell you my mom cried it was such an emotional moment. Then i continued to learn from you. Well December rolled around and i went with one of my friends to a small church.. Well the play live at this church.. They found out I could play alittle then.. The gave me some songs to look up and learn which i learned from you.. I have been playing at the church for 6 and a Half months now every Wednesday since then. And it was in may where if i Wouldn't of stayed with the church i would have never accepted Christ into my life and now through the guitar lessons you have helped me to reach some of my highest goals and i thank you! Keep up the good work!
I am also a beginner and you taught me backroad song in a day and now I can't put the guitar down so thank you for doing what you do and taking time out of your day for others
So i have been singing a long time. Country mostly i love it. I just wanted to be able to play the guitar around the campfire nothing fancy just enough to sing to. When i first started i was so frustrated. then i found your you tube channel. I can now play 5 songs and counting in 3 weeks of your lessons. Your awesome brother keep doing your stuff man. Thank you and God bless.
Thanks for the tutorial....I used it to do my cover. Love, Love, love Chris' music....I started playing about a year and a half ago so I'm not a real seasoned player....so I really appreciate cool peeps like you who help us newbies out.
I finally posted a cover, if you ever get time check it out. Any chance you would do a "What Are You Listening To tutorial" ? I almost have it, but I'm having a little trouble. You have a very simplistic way of teaching, and that's just right for newbies like me. : )
I appreciate all your help. I'm 63 yrs old and just started learning the guitar, about 4 months now. i'm trying to learn copperline by james taylor. Mainly the finger picking pattern. If you know this song i would appreciate you teaching it. please, go slowly, especially the finger picking. Thanks for all your help.
Thanks for the straightforward tutorial. I'm not a big country fan in general, but I heard Kappa Danielson and her daughters, Emma and Halie, play a heartbreakingly beautiful cover of this song (right here on RUclips -- seriously, check it out), and I knew I wanted to play it. I dunno if it's how they did it, but it works, and that's all that matters. Cheers, buddy! Thanks!
I loved this! I am a little past a beginner and my dad tought me this song. so i have known how to play it for a while and it was my first song i learned but i wanted to make it sound a little better and this was perfect. Thank you!
I have been listen to you for about a week or so and it as really help me along with my music--I am just a beginner---Great job--also I like the fact you make it fun
Hey this was really helpful and I appreciate it. There is ONE mistake and it creates 2 more mistakes by interrupting the correct pattern...everything else is perfect. In the Chorus, it does start in the Em, but the very next chord is Em/F#. I cheat a bit but put the emphasis on the F# so it doesn't matter...that's the key note in the chord...the only thing you do is lift your index finger and move it from the A string to the low E string, same fret. It's messing up the pattern because you are right that the G is just one full measure (3 counts) but it has you changing to the G one measure too early and then holding the C too long. It's Em>Em/F#>G>C>D each one measure (3 counts) until the D (4 measures/12 counts). Try it...I'm telling you...it's correct. The rest of it is great and I really appreciate it. You are a very good teacher
Could you, would you do a tutorial on Without Your Love by who else, Chris Stapleton?? Thank you a million times for your dedication to showing others how to play music. Your the best! God bless!
Hey, I would really like to learn how to play Parachute from Chris Stapleton. Can you do a video clip showing how to play that song. You have already helped me a ton as I am just learning to play. Thanks again.
Hey Matt in nick. I just really got in to music and just turned 16 I was wondering if you don't mind looking at making a tutorial for a Mitch rossell song(preferably "praying it don't rain"). He's a new country singer and I love his music. Thanks for all you do. God bless!
Matt I enjoy your approach to learning and playing guitar, but we are here to do just that. I think its easier and more direct to show us the chords and rhythm if you leave out the vocals.
brother iam new to your channel and new to playing, this is a great channel!! how about teaching us how to play "good to go" by Jason aldean! ? I can't find it and so far, you're the best simplistic teacher I've found on yt!!
Hey Matt I love your videos man you've helped me learn a lot of my favorite sonds. never left a request before but hoping you can help me out as I have a 7 month old son that loves kiss this by aaron tippin and feel that fire by Dierks Bentley when ever I sing it for him he gets mad and goes for my guitar lol been looking for weeks on how to play these songs and can't find anything maybe you could help. God bless take care
Awesome job. Learned it in no time. Out of curiosity, u said as a rule of thumb for hammer ons, wouldnt that b a rule of fore finger? Lol. Im being stupid! Thanks again, and god bless that baby. Pay no attention to the idiots that respond negatively on the comments. They r probably just stressed out cuz they dont have enough to pay the lot rent for the ol trailer this month. Keep it up man, and thanks again.
Glad ya liked it. Look forward to learning some more with ya. Keep on putting them out when ya can. I know kids come first and they r definitely life sucking little creatures. I speak from experience with five. Lol. Ya sound good to me man. Again ,god bless u and yours.
You do a good job teaching but one thing I've notice In all vedios is your drumming pattern if you could slowly show how you strum it would be so much better
+Brennan Utt hey Brennan, thanks for the note. Type in Matt McCoy strumming and see if those can help you. I get lots of questions about strumming. Have a great day!
Matt...are you still in negotiations with Stapleton's people over his use of your patented chording system? :). He's sure cranked out some great material with it.
The capo is on the second fret not the first. You can watch chris play it in numerous videos. It's roughly three notes not the excess of four. He changes pace several times, just watch the video and play along. I think you honestly overcomplicated this by a long shot, Chris made this song rather simple like most of his songs. Which I absolutely enjoy, less is more sometimes

Thanks for the vid man, but what's the strumming pattern?
great job
God Bless
He plays it with the capo on the second fret. If you watch him actually play it.
People place the capo in different positions to match the pitch of their voice.
What type of acoustic guitar are you playing?!
this is taylor 614ce
I love it!
You do a good job teaching but one thing I've notice In all vedios is your drumming pattern if you could slowly show how you strum it would be so much better
can you do a tutorial on will hoge strong
do you prefer cutaways over standard guitars?
hey Trisha, no real preference to be honest .i live them both but maybe cause I"m not advanced enough to use the cutaway. ha
Having a hard time with the strumming pattern any help would be appreciated thanks
+Brennan Utt hey Brennan, thanks for the note. Type in Matt McCoy strumming and see if those can help you. I get lots of questions about strumming. Have a great day!
+CountrySongTeacher ..thanks Matt!
Please learn me and my kind by Cody Johnson!
can you do Hollywood Andersons-Best Friend
amazing
What is your strum pattern?
is it just me or did he actually get better at singing
Can you please do a guitar less on Chris Stapelton's Without Your Love??? PLEASE??
I really love the way that guitar looked until I checked the price. Lol
hes dropped down half idk if you said it or not but
Capo 1. Means half step down
thank you big help
How do we adjust when we don't have a capo?
you'd have to transpose the chords. Type in matt mccoy transpose for a lesson on that.
The capo is on the second fret.
Matt...are you still in negotiations with Stapleton's people over his use of your patented chording system? :). He's sure cranked out some great material with it.
haha exactly!
CountrySongTeacher, any chance you can show how to play pretty little Adriana by Vince Gill
Chord progression on the chorus is a little off, but great lesson.
Suggestion ... drop the High e to d ( dont play the full chords - let the high d ring out)
Drop D high tuning
good job if you know drew amerson he is my cousin
drew is da man! he's an amazing guitarist! has a little baby on the way too! tell him i said hey!
What the strum pattern to this?
bj rippeto it’s about timing
Up down up down
Is this standard tuning
always spencer, i'm not advanced enough to do anything else. haha
What is the strum pattern
do tie me down by taylor ray holbrook
Technically it's 3/4 timing so it'd be counts of 3. :)
The capo is on the second fret not the first. You can watch chris play it in numerous videos. It's roughly three notes not the excess of four.
