So sorry for your loss! I have 3 sons of my own and have know idea what I would do if I lost them. Stay strong and my thoughts and prayer's are for you.
Chris Stapleton isn't just a country singer who comes up with good songs, when he sings, he sings from the heart and puts alot of emotion in the song, he is a beautiful person, he writes the most beautiful songs, and he has the most beautiful voice, god bless him
I was doing reviews for Sound Check Entertainment and was lucky the boss had to pass on Chris's show in Ottawa. I was not shy about wanting to fill in. The person sitting beside me was also a reviewer for another online entertainment magazine. He had not heard of Chris. I smiled and said after tonight, you will wonder how you had not. He said he isn't a country fan, again I said after tonight, you will be. He is unassuming, and reminds me of Grizzly Adams. His voice is smooth and sexy. Something about the way his wife sings with him. The love and passion between them is intense. When he introduced the band to the tune of "Tennessee Whiskey" the place got louder. The person beside me, started looking around, watching everyone sing along. When the song ended, Chris was given a standing ovation, that went on for a good 5 minutes. (He was very humble too) Guy beside me says, WOW, I have never seen this before, is this his most popular song ? I laughed and and said only one of them, just wait till he sings "Fire Away" if you see me crying, ignore me. When the encore began, Chris had sang all but 3 songs from "The Travellor" EP. So he sang them. Not often an artist will sing their whole EP. 23 Songs that night I think was the count. I asked the other reviewer, what do you think now/? He was amazed, and was a country fan now.. and was going to by the CD. The real deal, you better believe it. I've seen hundreds of people live. The minute he opens his mouth, his voice takes over all of you. One of the best live singers I've ever heard. Ratchy, sexy, seductive, emotional, and so much more.
@Lisa, oh thank you for your comment, I have listened to Country Music my whole life (I'm 61) and my dad was a singer and songwriter back in the 1940's, I have NEVER HEARD any other artist that compares to Chris Stapleton. I am more addicted to him than I am chocolate and that is saying a lot ! When i listen to him and morgane, I feel like I have been to church, he is truly amazingly gifted, and so gracious and humble.
YOU said it all!! Love this guy and his wife, Morgane. Oh, and the vid for Fire Away is a tear-jerker, man. I'm obsessed with Chris! He's got a classic vocal quality and an undeniable talent we'll hear for decades to come!
I haven't liked an artist like this in over 20 years! Chris Stapleton has taken over my iTunes playlist! My wife keeps saying Jerry Garcia is turning in his grave because listening to him and the Grateful Dead is pretty much all I listened to over the past 20 years. I first heard Stapleton with the Steeldrivers playing bluegrass years ago. Last year I was wondering what happened to him so I googled his name and man oh man did I discover something new and awesome. All this guy needs is his guitar which makes him super special. He doesn't need all the bells and whistles. This video is a perfect example. He continues to blow me away and I still can't believe I have put my dear old friend Jerry aside RIP.
Oh and I don't like modern day country. Some of the old country dudes that sang with soul like Waylon, Charlie Daniels, Willie, etc are good but can't stand the cheesy cookie cutter clowns of today. However, Stapleton to me has his own stamp. His own genre. To me he's not country, not rock, just original. I love that labels don't really stick on this guy. Check out his work not only as Chris Stapleton but as singer in bands like The Steeldrivers (bluegrass) and the Jompson Brothers (rock?). Also check out Sturgill Simpson if you like Stapleton. He's yet another dude not of the cookie cutter variety. Another guy to me that labels don't stick on.
Lost my brother in law unexpectedly last year and this song reminds me of what an incredible man he was here on earth. I ache for my sister and young nephew he left behind.. :(
His voice, tone, control, I mean come on. I love music, it is a very big deal to me and when it comes to his voice, it’s as great as it gets. God truly exists, proof is Chris Stapleton’s voice. I mean WOW!
Heather Gray I saw the Jompson Brothers open up for a friend band at the 40 Watt Club in Athens Ga about 7 years ago and I knew when he first opened his mouth that he was going to shine. And if he didn't, the the music industry is really screwed up. So much talent in every thing he does.
I've seen Chris live a couple times, once in Nashville and once in New Orleans... I'm not the biggest country fan but he's got an incredible voice and seems like a really good genuine dude. He sings with such passion it's hard not to appreciate his music.
Chris tells a story every time he sings. He brings meaning and understanding to any song. His rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl was inspiring, I felt pride swell in me and tears well up in my eyes.
Chris Stapleton. My God believe everything you hear and love everything you see this man's gotta be pleasing to the blind as well as the deaf. What a man. As a musician myself who wants to be original too I can only aspire.
A poetic voice that comes right out of the American folk experience. Absolutely genuine, honest and speaking to the heart of things. Is Walt Whitman listening to Chris up in heaven?
Thank you for this song. My son passed away December 21st 2018. This song has been helping me get through. It takes a different meaning depending on where I'm at in my head. It touches no matter the place though. #CFSucks
Chris Stapleton is phenomenal. I can't believe all the famous songs he's written for others, like "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" for George Strait and "Come Back Song" by Darius Rucker, both #1 country songs about 5 years ago.
Joana Papp I think Howard hit the nail on the head. I dont kmow him well, but he sounds more like Bob Segar than anything. "Country" is more of a marketing term in his case. I'd say he's Southern Rock or Southern Folk Music.
Kevin Hagler I think alot of today's southern rock gets thrown into the country genre. Chris is kind of a blues guy if you listen to his song Tennessee Whiskey (one of my favs and he does an amazing duet with Justin Timberlake) you hear alot of his blues roots. There are a few great "rock" guys that get thrown into the country arena Eric Church being one of them.
RamboSlice great point on the blues! Even here, especially lyrically, it's hard to not think of a song called "broken halos" as anything but a blues song.
this is a blues album. traveler was a country album. yall need to check out the band called the steeldrivers if you like this stuff. it's Chris Stapleton old band
Chris is the truth, a real, raw and pure bad ass singer!!! What I like and admire the most is he seems to be so humble even though he is in my opinion the greatest songwriter of all time!!! (Simply genuine)
Chris is one of the best there is. Not just his own stuff, but the things he does with and for other people. Tim McGraw, Justin Timberlake and Dwight Yoakam, just to name a few.
Howard Stern should be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame. Think about the epic performances that have been on his show over the course of the past 3 decades..
rper1 second agoI saw chris way before all of his stardom. im from Ashland ky not far from where he is from. he has been around for so many years, and wrote so many hit songs. its heartwarming to see this man get the recognition he deserves. wth his old band the steel drivers. that's who he was with when I saw him. and im talking a rather venue. the claimed bluegrass but were to me much more blues oriented... due to his amazing blues voice
It seems like Country Music fans have dubbed Chris as their new messiah, but his gift defies - happily - easy caregorization, IMHO. He's his own man, and I wish Chris and Morgaine every success, in music and life!!
There's a homeless shelter near my house and I think of this song every time that I walk by. Lot of guys who used to be angels, but who are now suffering with folded wings.
Chris must have the best personality, his sense of humor is hilarious. The way he jokes with Howard and laughs at the things he says makes me laugh. He's the full package, the real deal.
For those new to Chris Stapleton music check out "Fire Away", "Tennessee Whiskey", "Parachute", or "Nobody to Blame" off of his 2015 album Traveller. Every song on it is good but they are the best off it. He is so incredible vocally and is such a good song writer.
Kenya G You gotta check out Steeledrivers, and Mike Henderson & The Bluebloods as well. They all used to perform together. Blue side of the mountain is soooooo good!
I just lost my 2nd son in a six year span. This song helped me pull through it. Listening to all of Chris's songs gave my broken heart a boost.
Wow. So sorry. Truly
I hope your ok 💔💖💖
Fay Shaw I’m so sorry, no parents should lose not one...Keep on going brother...✌️
So sorry for your loss. God bless
So sorry for your loss! I have 3 sons of my own and have know idea what I would do if I lost them. Stay strong and my thoughts and prayer's are for you.
Howard I hope you realize you have an actual legend right here
Chris is so undeniable. Regardless of taste, you just can't deny his talent.
This dude is really good.. it's that simple.. flannel, old ass guitar, no
Backing band.
Nobody in this man's class right now when it comes to singing, his vocals his unmatched
Simple guitar, simple chords, simple man.. amazing song
Chris Stapleton and Ashley McBryde are bringing real country music back and I am LIVING
Please explain.
Finally something to pull me away from my 90’s hip hop and alternative playlists..
you make campfires fun again fella!
He’s one amazing talent. One of the best
Anyone else hear Chris Cornell? Damn this gets me right in the feels.

True talent!!!
Probably the best singer on the planet. Could sing the phone book and make you cry
Chris Stapleton isn't just a country singer who comes up with good songs, when he sings, he sings from the heart and puts alot of emotion in the song, he is a beautiful person, he writes the most beautiful songs, and he has the most beautiful voice, god bless him
This is beautiful. My grandmother is in hospice at the moment and this song is comforting.

@Chris Stapleton if this I you, Thank You!!
anyone who says they hate country music will change their minds when they hear this masterpiece
What an amazing voice. Chris is at another level from most of what you hear on the radio. ☠️
Hell yes, Howard and Chris Stapleton couldn't ask for a better duo of people who are completely different
in a good or bad way in an interview, you wanna see completely different ted Nugent and piers Morgan
Thank you G-d for giving us Chris Stapleton.
This man is gifted asf ! Every song he spits on is fire !
I think its great that Howard, not only had a country artist on, but an amazing one at that. Awesome
I haven't liked an artist like this in over 20 years! Chris Stapleton has taken over my iTunes playlist! Lost my brother in law unexpectedly last year and this song reminds me of what an incredible man he was here on earth. I ache for my sister and young nephew he left behind.. :(

The real deal. Beautiful. Thanks Howard for another great interview.
Heather Gray I agree!
Chris was amazing as the opener for Guns N Roses last July in Nashville! If his tour comes anywhere near you this summer it is a must see!

Amazing, this is what gifted looks sounds like
I've seen Chris live a couple times, once in Nashville and once in New Orleans... I'm not the biggest country fan but he's got an incredible voice and seems like a really good genuine dude. He sings with such passion it's hard not to appreciate his music.
i love listening to this song because it is the song that was played at my uncle's funeral R.I.P
True old-school, heartfelt, country music.

A poetic voice that comes right out of the American folk experience. Absolutely genuine, honest and speaking to the heart of things. Is Walt Whitman listening to Chris up in heaven?

This man is an absolute genius. Plain and simple.
I love this damn song and glad I learned to play it.
Not a country music fan before, but I am one now 👍🏻
Joana Papp he's one of the very few good ones these days.
