I want to thank you. For years, I have wanted to play the guitar. About a month ago, I found your channel, and after watching a couple of videos, I was able to play my first song. It was the bar song. This was so important to me because my wife and I are foster parents. We were planning on adoption. However, his dad stepped up, and he went to live with his dad. His father let's him come over every other weekend to spend time with use. He struggles with his emotions, and I have been looking for something for him to focus on. He is 5 years old, and one day, the bar song came on the radio, and he loved it. He thought they were saying everybody at berger King getting Pepsi. The point is, after watching your videos, I was able to play this song for him. Now he wants a blue acoustic guitar. My wife and I are getting him one for Christmas. We are hoping this will give him something to focus on express himself through music. Thank you so much for your lessons and giving yet another way for me and my boy to bond and enhance our love of music.
It's been a year and 6 months since I have been learning guitar. And this is coming from a man who never ever played or picked up a guitar.. I started learning by RUclips video from different people, but when I viewed Matt from Country Song Teacher, for the first time, I was hooked. He made it looked simple, and know what, it was and is... Now I can play any song, which was my goal from the beginning... .if you want to learn how to play one day, THIS IS THE MAN TO LEARN FROM... MATT.... GREAT JOB MY FRIEND....
Matt, I just want to say thank you, thank you thank you. I finally got it. The breakdown of timing and rhythm finally clicked and I'm am just so happy right now. I didn't think I was ever going to get it. But now I'm somewhere between awe and overjoyed.
Matt your a blessing to alot of people you should be very proud of yourself. I am 44 years old and I'm recovering from open heart surgery and I'm doing my bucket list. I've always wanted to learn to play guitar and just couldn't get it but now I know the c,a,em,g,and d chords I can play broken halo by Chris Stapleton. Please put a video on my cousin's songs Brent Cobb. It would be great if I could learn his stuff. That way when I showed up to see him I could play guitars with him
thanks Ken! i'll be praying for you brother! Open Heart surgery is no joke but I know the one who holds the whole world in his hands so he can handle that too! God bless ya man!
I'm 14 yrs old and my uncle that just died a couple months ago was one of the best man I knew that could strum a guitar and after his death I was very interested in learning and your Zac brown Toes videos helped me learn so much in just a small amount of time and I thx you very very much
So about 15 -20 years ago I started to learn how to play guitar with the standard g, c, d, em. I was just getting started and was alright, but because I was using my mom's guitar and was moving out and couldn't afford one. So I lost it. Now I stumbled on to your channel and man it's so easy too learn. Thank you very much buddy. And God bless ya.
Just started and this is great at 61 (62 on Sunday) Fingers are fumbling and apart from wanting to turn Beethoven music into country songs overnight; I have to content myself on a guitar with the compulsory stabilisers lol.. I will order your book and hopefully on the Emerald Isle I shall be strumming a few songs comfortably next year.. Every blessing and thank you for the teaching. It is pretty awesome!
Thank you you make it easy to play any song we want to play. You make it simple so we can enjoy the music most of us aren't looking for perfect we just want to play the song Thank you again
Dude, I've watched this video a few times & I'm finally getting it. The most inspirational moment of the video was watching you working through the struggle at the end. Gave me a reminder that it's not just me & that everyone was at that moment in learning. Gave me that, "ok, I can do this" moment. I may never become perfect, but I'm progressing & having fun at getting better.
Another great lesson Matt... The strumming on this song was daunting for me until you broke it down into the 2 part rhythm way of doing it instead of a choppy up/down/up etc pattern. Chris Stapleton and this song is one of my favorites and the easy chords made it tempting for me to try as a newbie. I still struggle with the singing and playing because I'm doing exactly what you were saying, breaking the chords changes up to fit the lyrics of the song rather than your way of playing to a rhythm & singing separately. I think I'll probably just concentrate on playing and strumming without a pick until I get this one into muscle memory... but as a 70 years old newbie, muscle memory takes me a while. Thanks again Matt, your lessons and teaching methods that are keyed to new guitar players are really helping me!
Hey @CountrySongTeacher just wanted to shout out and say youve been a big help to many of us beginners in the Country genre. One thing that i feel would help us out is a bit more detail on the strums in conjunction with the chord changes. On Broken Halos here for example, you explain the stay on each chord for a two count...then go into a full speed strum "pattern/timing"...makes it difficult for novices to know that on G G C D it should be D D Du D or whatever it works out to be. Sry to be long winded...but that would be most helpful
I love this song, i feel i have a connection with this song because of the guy i saved when i worked for enery Australia (electricity company )only to lose his life when he was tragically killed in a truck smash, want get back into guitar playing. Great video mate!!!
Hey Matt! I just wanted to say that I appreciate what you're doing for those of us who wanna learn guitar but need some help. Thanks alot buddy and keep the Lord in it brother!! Amen!
I like your approach great tutorial 👍🏼 I'm a seasoned musician but like to see others approach. For a beginner to watch this is is very explainable. Like how you say it's in the timing not the strumming pattern .. alot of people do the same strumming pattern and not feel the flow of the song...Thanks for posting Bless ya 👍🏼
Hey Matt I figured out the strings but now I can figure out the rhythm. This is the first song I've attempted and really the first time I've tried playing. I've listened to the song over two dozen times and I can't figure it out.
yes! I covered this one. man I'm glad you did this lesson. i.think yiu should do s full cover bro. right up.your alley. you sound good. just listened to his album on here and wow ot blew me away. I'd love to see Chris do a gospel record
I am having a hard time with strumming. It would be nice to have something to get you started for beigginers. Then go off timeing, but love the videos you have taught me alot
@@CountrySongTeacher I am recently working here in Singapore. But i am from Philippines.Do you have fb?I really thanks God for knowing you.I love to heared all my favorite christian song.I just started playing guitar but i still need to learn more.Actually i want to buy set of band for our young people in Philippines.Because they only used one guitar. So i prayed to God that He provide our needs.Hopefully this coming Dec i will donate for them by God grace.
I know this is an older video but any chance you could update this one with the bridge? Only happens for those few bars in the song but I struggle with that part.

Dude, you are the man with your simple versions of country songs! Thanks very much for the lessons. I have learned so much from you. Just one question remains: when are we gonna see Matt McCoy in concert? I’d definitely buy a ticket! Much respect and best wishes from Frankfurt, Germany.
Hey Matt my favorite country guitar teacher! Just heard a song I would love to learn how to play called LET THE RAIN COME DOWN, Brent Cobb. I played around and was able to pick out some of the chords in it, so I'm sure you will be able to get them down right away. I need to learn how to find the chords that are in the key the song is in. I think you have a lesson on that? Please help me out! Thank you for all you do to help us out. Your are so kind, and have a big heart.
Matt just giving my feedback I absolutely love your videos ! But I have a suggestion. I love that you stress timing and not strumming patterns because it is the reason I learned to play. However if you could go into strumming patterns for once we learn to play with timing it would help me a ton ! But either way your videos are amazing !
there is a part right before the "don't go lookin' for the answers" line where he plays a bar chord (this is where you hear a slide up on the bass as well, my fav chord ) also, once you capo fret 5+ C, F, E, Em,A, Am, and various bar chords are progressively harder and harder to play (usually only G and D work from my experience, good luck tho) and i'll edit this if i'm wrong haha
Hey Matt been with you for a long time but I am still struggling I have finally dedicated myself to picking this thing up everyday no matter for how many minutes my question in problem need help them is that you did a good job on broken Halos but I just cannot get the strumming pattern down I wish you would slow down and slowly show the strumming pattern on this very song thanks your prescriber
Hey I can kinda see that your throwing in a quick up and down between your chord switch is this true? I can hear it I think I see it lemme know man....love your lessons keep em coming keep the Lord involved your amazing brother! You've helped me so much ...
