Park Hyatt Tokyo: The "Lost in Translation" Hotel 20 Years Later

When it opened in 1994, the Park Hyatt Tokyo was one of the best hotels in Asia. Located between the 39th and 52nd floors of the landmark Shinjuku Park Tower designed by architect Kenzo Tange, it offered everything the discerning international guest could wish for. Spacious rooms, a fitness center with swimming pool and spa, restaurants, a legendary bar and a breathtaking view over the metropolis.
For director Sofia Coppola, the luxury hotel became the ideal film set. This is where the Oscar-winning film "Lost in Translation" was shot, which made an entire generation in Europe and America dream of Tokyo. A significant part of the 2003 film starring Bill Murray as Bob Harris and Scarlett Johansson as Charlotte is set in this exclusive hotel.
The good news is that even 20 years after the legendary film, the Park Hyatt Tokyo has retained the cinematic charm of that era. But this era is coming to an end. The hotel will be renovated from May 2024. Before its renovation, it was time to say goodbye to this iconic movie location in its original look and feel.
