Very good advice Michael I've always found that a good algae growth in a well planted tank makes big strong spawns thanks for all the information on nutrition man love the videos
Sorry im new to fish and just inherited a tank of guppies, and I have a couple questions. First what is moam? Ive heard you talk about it in a couple videos but have no clue what it is. Also, slightly more complicated question... if im starting with a mix of maybe 200 mixed/mutt guppies can i create my own strain from that? The are ranging from a few centimeters to maybe 3/4 of an inch now. My plan was to first seperate them by gender and let them grow a bit. Then rehome the ones i definitely dont want. Then my plan was to seperate them into two tanks putting the golden females and any flashy males including orange color in one tank and the females with some irridescence and and flashy males with no orange into that tank, and then let them start breeding and keep removing any that dont fit my goals. That would also mean i have the other tank to cross back with if I need to in the future. Am I on the right track here or way off?

I have two 10g with 2 female's with around 30 fry all different sizes..give or take in one tank...about 15 older fry in the other.. overstocked..???

From reading I've done, erythromycin is considered by biologists to be mostly useless in aquarium fish. Yanong -- Erythromycin is most effective against gram-positive bacteria... [But] The vast majority of bacteria that cause disease in fish are gram-negative, so erythromycin should only be used after culture and sensitivity test results confirm it will be effective." My two and half cents.

Michael's Fish Room I appreciate it and I 100% agree with you on raising your fish in the same type of environment that the average fish owner will end up raising them in. The way I see it if you raise your fish in water that is 100% pristine they will not be able to handle the everyday fish keepers normal water conditions, And when they die they start bad mouthing you to anybody that will listen
Would be very interested to inquire or know, the lowest temperatures, you and/or others have been able to raise Guppies at comfortably. In about 12 generations (from fish originating out of Singapore, raised in over 80degF water), I have a few strains that grow comfortably in average 60degF. As to your note on more males generating from warmer water,... I find I seem to produce more males in my colonies by having only 2 adult males to 10 or 20 adult females. The ratio seems to trigger the young into developing more males, which I also remove to another tub or tank just before they mature. This way I consistently keep many more females to males in my breeding colonies, resulting with young maturing into a higher ratio of males (which get separated and sold, growing out in male only tanks). I also find keeping less males in with the colony, that their fins don't get nipped or damaged, I feel the females get tired of being harassed to breed too much and nip back at males, damaging fins, and when there are so many males vying for dominance and breeding they nip each-other more too. Whereas if you keep the temptation(females) away, and raise all male groups they don't worry about hierarchy as much either, and keep their fins nice.... Anyhow, apologies for run-on sentences. Thanks for sharing your insights and I'd be interested what others might think about what I myself see with my colonies. I've got various separate colonies of yellow tuxedos, Magenta genes, black and blues (I bred from Neon blue males, and Feeder guppy females), and some fun Lyretail/Endler type crosses (one I call my Christmas or Clown guppies [Gold body Endler with red, white and green spots and red Lyre tail], and another strain I call Green Arrows[Green and black striping, with green lyre tail]).
