I got a thing for the dark green yarn too. I wrap mine around a hard cover book. I use a pool noodle from the dollar store and cut little pieces to float my mops.
Being a cichlid guy for a long time [20+ yeaers] I only used mops for fry hiding--with livebearers, the same later on--built differently than a hanging mop. Had Cory's spawn in hanging mops. Good to see 'how to's'--never too many of them.
Prefer shorter mops that are sunk with a ceramic noodle, I then use a container. This captures any egg that doesn't adhere to the strands of yarn. I use this method for all egg layers, including all my rainbows, right through to fancy goldfish. Keep em coming Bentley.
I lay a strand of yarn along the book spine before i start to wrap. Tie that 1 strand around the wrap, then remove from book and cut. I clip a fishing bobber on the tied strand.
Hey Bentley. Will the 100%acrylic yarn harm the fish if they pick at it and possibly eat some of the small fibers? Just made one and put it in my 55 g tiger barb tank, let me know thanks
@BentleyPascoe ty, off subject a bit, I am aware of most house plants that can be placed on top the aquarium with the roots in the water, I read ferns do well this way, is that true?
Hi , I make my mobs like you do , some adjustment could be: boil it for 10 minutes and it's clean/ some color washes out and after that they sink right away. Instead of the cork I use a sucksioncup which is in 2 parts( accual sucksioncup and removable handle that would fit a heater) , this way I can place it wherever I want( high or low) and in a spot where it doesn't bother me or my plants and it doesn't go with the flow.
Probably won't use this info as I don't breed fish, but I appreciate the knowledge. Also I'd probably use a Alice in chains or nirvana CD but any Seattle grunge is acceptable.
How long should the spawning mop be for rainbowfish? I made one that goes from the top of a 75g to the bottom of the tank.I'm thinking that is to long.thanks
I didn''t have the corks so just used an electrical tie to form a loop at the top. Then I hang the mop from the top of the tank. So just about anything works. I'm wondering, if using a cork the mop meanders everywhere. I prefer the idea that the mop is stationary and easily accessed. Just my thought. Thanks for the good video. Mine are dark green also! #FishFam
A bit of advice when building one of these. When you a creating one and your wife asks you what you are doing, under no circumstances, not ever, ever, ever! Don't tell her you are making her a new floor mop! I'm sorry it took me so long to mention this but the swelling took awhile to go down! 😣
Thank you for sharing this video 👍😀⭐
Can I use corks that are from wine bottles? Worried about the stain or smell from the wine hurting the fish
Awesome loach swimming in the background!!!!
That is Danger Noodle! Our dojo loach. He/she is quite the character.
Destined for greatness! Thanks Bentley!

Thanks, appreciate the thoughts on when to use different mops

Hey I also have 3 albino dinosaur eels and some other fish,I have plecos too

This will be helpful for my pygmy cories. Thanks!
Everything was helpful. I've never made or used a spawning mop before.

Great process!
Great tutorial! I always have a copy of Pearl Jam handy great waterchange album 🤣

The suction cup is a good tip. Thanks
Fishing bobbers to float the mops, easiest connect and disconnect.
Thanks for the info. Just got my first rainbows a few months ago. Was wondering where to buy or how to make a mop!
Tnks for sharing this info.
Great for me
would you do a floating mop for goldfish or would it not matter?
I would do mops over a bare bottom tank with goldies
Pearl Jam 🤘
One of the best albums in the 90s if not period.
Great video. Very clear instructions. Can the mops be used with pet shrimp? How big for CPDs? Thank you!
CPDs likely do small in a cup, only a couple inches. You could use it in theory on shrimp tanks, but I'd likely just use actual moss
@@BentleyPascoe thank you! Just got rid of java moss...................

Too long, 4-5 in is all you should need, 6-7 if you want something taller
Thanks Bentley . i knew you would know.😊

I’m gana try this with fish bobbers instead 😂
That also works, corks just tend to be super cheap
I use them for my Killi
Alright alright
Sinking mop preferred for guppy fries to hide.
I only watched this video to watch danger noodle
