Great video...Great info Michael! I like listening to the wisdom from others over and over. I retain the knowledge more when I hear it more than once. Thanks!! 👊🏾
The time thing was the hardest part for me for the longest time. I took a bunch of banked time off work at one point to build out my fish room properly but Lack of time for close to two years just made it a room full of tanks. I couldn't focus on breeding or selling anything until about 2 months ago.
P0HTAT0 Looking forward to getting some of your shrimp! I was with Lucas last night at the MASI presentation and cleaned him out! Keeping my eye on Get Gills!
@@TheChubbyGuppy If all goes well January after the holiday postal crash I should have a good hand full available but at the moment all I have are my breeders and buried females.
So true! Too many people think you just sit back get drunk and rake in the profits with their exclusive only found here guppies. It simple don’t work that way! Good work! Nice video as always!
I just saved 14 young endler males from a feeder tank..2 have a problem one with his fins and one has a bent spine been there before..but I had a spare tank and had to take some they looked so sad..in just a few hours they are feeding and swimming everywhere like different fish...I know feeders are not the best fish but I thought at $1.99 for 14..I could get some good Looking ones..and looks like I have..
Yep, it's not all fun and happy happy. A lot of expenses beginners never figure in. And the shipping and packing learning curve is steep with more expenses. Much respect to you and others who do it all correctly.
I've seen a number of aquarium youtubers that regularly say something along the lines of "I don't need to cover this, I've made "N" videos on this," (Joey is notorious for it) when really, if a video is more than 6 months old, it basically doesn't exist unless it's highly specialized or amazing. It's really a turn off to a new viewer to say, "I've covered this before, go watch this [three year old] video." then they go watch the video and it's absolute trash compared to the creator's current content. Sure, people will complain about rehashed content, but people are going to complain no matter what and you can't let that skew your thought process because happy people don't complain so you don't really see their thoughts as much.
Awesome video! This is exactly where I am. I’ve got my business license and all that, but, man...monetizing this is much more difficult than it seems. The “pros” make this seem like it’s free money. Ummm...not so much!
Agree about the website. Currently, testing the waters with GetGills.com. Primarily to pass along extra fish. Not breeding for profit, but with 18 tanks and all the Barry White music we listen to around here, it's inevitable that I have extras, and tons of them. I like that site so far as it only asks for %5 of sales, is maintained by the host, and is a collection of stores and breeders. I can look for anything I need all in one site. Your site has improved a lot, and I like it quite a bit, however last night it would not accept the PW I've used before. So, I had to set up a new one to make my purchase. With GG.com one PW gets you into all the stores. This video is good information Mike, not only for those who want to profit, but those of us who do it for fun only. I've had some talks with my financial planner and attorney over the past couple years and they've given up on advising me, except that I won't become an official business. Jeez sorry for the long comment, but I enjoyed this one a lot and appreciate you once again saying it like it is. Thanks!
I started out the same way in the guppies when I lost my Oscar & koi goldfish 6 mos ago I won't have mine up & going till NEXT year but as far as going "business" I'll pass on that, but as a hobbyist that works for me & yes it does take lots of time, but with what tanks I'll have & space to work with I LIVE with my fish ha ha ha so time isn't going to be the problem as I'm retired & don't have nothing better to do in life so I HAVE the time, I don't have any "REAL" true breed of guppies just regular nothing fancy guppies so maybe by next year I may get lucky enough to get me some real nice ones to mix in with the ones I have, I've watched A LOT of your vids.
I plan on starting to sell online in April when weather is warmer. Do you think eBay is a good place to start along with a website. I've heard a few people do this and they leave a business card in the box saying for cheaper rates go to my website and they give the website link on card.
Yes I understand that that's why I say I would have cheaper rates on my website and try to direct my customers to the website with a business card in box. I just figured that could help me get customers to start off with.
Depends on what you mean. I have taken most of the profits and put them back into the business. I bought a new Mac, camera, accessories for YT with the profits.
One thing I'll add is to make sure you have a short term and long term business plan. Maybe mutt guppies don't sell so well for periods of time so your longer term plan maybe to work on your own breed.
What if nobody wants them? That's my predicament. I have so many fancy strains and I'm just collecting guppies it seems... I know I need to sell online and SHIP but I can't do that at the moment. Nobody in my region has ever expressed interest in them, maybe one petty like on Facebook or a message asking how much and then they never reply. How are you able to get a distributor to allow you to buy wholesale without a physical storefront? I was going to get a business license a few months ago and went to the tropical fish wholesaler in this region for information and they said they wouldn't deliver to me without a store even if I had everything else required and they'd drop me if I didn't order often enough.
@@MichaelsFishRoom there's no local fish clubs except the one I made and there's only a handful of members and oddly only one other is actually in this area the rest are for some reason out of state. Everyone here seems content with the crap guppies from Petco. I thought for sure there's be interest in red tuxedo koi guppies but nobody contacts me about them, they are a popular strain, fairly difficult to source and in my opinion one of the top most attractive guppies but I'm just simply amassing a 55g tank full of them month after month after month.
