I enjoyed this video!! Guppies are one of my FAVORITE fish. I have been studying them for years now and am still learning.
Some important tips when it comes to breeding:
1)Females like a lot of natural growing greens for their babies. I make 1/2 of my tank thick with a variety of growing plants.
2)Females like to have as much high quality food as they want. I feed high-protein granules for guppies.
3)Females like to have a few girl buddies in the tank with them even if the other girls are not pregnant. Preferably no boys.
4)When my female starts to have her young, she isolates herself into the plants. I offer small snacks if she eats the snacks. She usually does. It helps with contractions and to not eat the babies. Last night I fed about 12 little meals while she had her 30+ babies over the course
of hours. I am careful not to disturb her. I first feed her buddies at the other side so they won't race over to momma and take hers, lol.
5)When the babies start coming, I lift gently them out with a small cup and/or turkey baster, if it does not disturb the mom. CAUTION:
turkey basters work great however the baby will often drop to the bottom of the baster quickly. Have a cup right there to put them into it. If the baby is high up in the turkey baster, I put my finger on the bottom of the baster to stop the water going out. Just watch for the baby. I have enough water in the cup so the baby won't hit her/his self when landing. I put ALL the babies together is a small container with a few plants. They feel safe together.
Guppies are very sensitive and can get easily stressed. Mine have had a lot of babies and I just wanted to share what I have
    learned.😊

i feel you with the high protein food for females, but especially before birth. when my girls are pregnant, i always feed them mosquito larvae/brineshrimp the days before the birth. im gonna try keeping some other female fish with the next pregnant fish i get in her birthing tank so thanks for that tip 💕

He's right about the lights. Never turn them off totally. I have LED lighting which can be dimmed or the color changed.I usually go from white to blue for nighttime. This goes for all aquaria, not just guppy tanks. Lovely fish, btw. (Jan Griffiths).

  • @rrotley1

With the floating basket in the tank, was the female put in the basket to give birth or did the fry swim in as they were born? It looked like the small fry were able to swim in and out through the holes in the basket. Would you leave the fry in the basket for a week before moving to a grow out tub/tank or move staight away to a smaller container like the birthing one you showed? Re water changes, I assume you would do them daily but what percentage of water should you remove each time?

    • @Npossibly
      @Npossibly 10 месяцев назад

The basket in the tank is a substitute for floating plants in the tank to provide hiding space for any fry to avoid predation. I think some of the older ones that we saw in the basket, just jumped into it. They tanks with the basket allow fry to grow enough to survive getting eaten by the adults. You can remove pregnant females like they showed us into separate containers or leave them in the tanks with baskets. Try not to do daily water changes and aim for weekly water changes of 10% - 25%.

My guppies are in heavy planted tanks. They go to sleep in the floating plants on the bottom in the valis grass maybe because there are landmarks they sleep all over the tank. The first time I opened the lid a big female was upside down in the brocus plants barely in the water. I thought she was dead I poked her real light in her fat belly. Whoa she woke up splashing scared me I jumped back. I never disturb them anymore keep the lights low or off. Daylight they are up moving slow. I have ten tanks in my bedroom its so cool 2 are 5.5 gallons tanks they have my bettas in. The 8 have mostly mud guppies swordtails platies green Cory's.
Nothing special but no cichlids or rainbows. Rainbows would be my next fish if I could get a four foot tank no room in here. Lol😂

a couple of extra tips when looking to buy expensive breeding pairs of guppies don't buy off places like E-Bay or from people that use stock photo's , check your local area for breeders where you can go look at the fish, also i have issues with feeding live bearers live food as this surely stimulates their appetite to look for live food IE their new born babies?

they breed like rabbits, you REALLY dont need a walkthrough, all you really need to do is make sure you have more females (anal fin looks like a triangle) than males (anal fin looks like a stick) other wise the males could end up killing the females with the stress of near constant mating, my petstore recommends 3 females to 1 male
