    Very informative! I used to have hundreds of guppies in a 120 gallon tank. They all interbred and produced all colors. Luckily my local fish store took them and gave me a credit to buy whatever I needed.

    Guppies are notorious breeders. I had 3 guppies, 2 female fancies, 1 cobra guppy. It's about 2 months later. I now have over 80 baby guppies in my 10 gallon, most of which I need to sell so my tank does not get overloaded. It's difficult to get them NOT to breed tbh. In 2 months this is my 4th generation of guppies.

      Females can be fertilized as early as four weeks old. And then they start giving birth when they are about ten weeks old... Sometimes they can give birth six times from 1 fertilization. This way you will soon be a 'guppy millionaire'.... You can prevent this... Look at your young guppies when they are 3 weeks old with a magnifying glass. If they have a dark spot at the back of their body, just in front of the tail, it's a female. Put the females in a separate container. This way they remain unfertilized. Also useful if you buy a new male, because then you know for sure that the female he mates with will have HIS babies..

    Thank you! I ended up buying 2 pairs and mine came pregnant. I got them in the morning and that night she was giving birth to babies! I had no idea how to care for them and that they breed so often!! This is gonna be an interesting endeavor for sure. I was warned against breeder boxes but I have one 10 gal tank so I'm glad to see it's an option for a small amount of time. It's better than survival of the fittest in my mind as only 2 fry have lived from my initial female. The other is pregnant now so learning this is invaluable! I also think I need to get a bigger tank and keep the 10 gallon for the growing babies. Idk what I'm doing in this, at all!

      Go ask the pet store if he wants (almost fully grown) guppies from you. For example, in exchange for food, a new male, etc. And ask the trader if he wants unfertilized females. Because then you deliver the unfertilized females separately from the males

      I plan on wholesaling more so as I have common pet shop fancy tail guppies and having kinda a private customized guppy farm tower built for 16 guppy tanks with air hose connections going through the back hooked up to a solar Controlled filtration system. Using this rack system for high end show guppies more so. I don't mind selling to stores or have a trade agreement but eBay is wonderful to sell on also. I will sell near wholesale on high end Guppies but a bit more because of shipping cost where I can offer free shipping since my overhead is not going to be that bad. Just getting groups of high end show guppies now actually. I purchased a brand new strain today for $75 but have stains that run from $35 to $50 so clearly selling wholesale as they produce a lot, I really think it is worth working with while keeping back the very best for yourself to enjoy.

After my wife and I move early next year I plan to start a fish room and a more serious breeding set up. I plan on breeding several different species of tropical fish. Some guppies for sure, maybe some Corydoras, Molly’s, Plecos and a few others. What would be a good commercial air pump that could easily run somewhere around 20 sponge filters?

      If you want to avoid overcrowding, look at the young guppies with a magnifying glass after two or three weeks. The females have a dark spot on the back of their abdomen, near the base of their tail. Separate them from brothers and nephews at that age. Because young males can fertilize their sisters and nieces within four or five weeks. The female stores the sperm until she is fertile and then she becomes pregnant. But if you separate them in time, a female tank and a male tank, the females will grow longer. They grow bigger and you don't have an overcrowded tank.

    a female guppy can store sperm from one encounter with a male, and use it for a very long time. She can most likely use one encounter 2 or 3 times. :) this is why guppies breed so quickly, even right ever she births her first batch, she can be pregnant again right after.

    Where do I find those plants you mentioned???

  • @supportyourtroopsathletes6460
    @supportyourtroopsathletes6460 3 года назад +3

    I am just getting back into breeding them but for every reason you mentioned and one additional reason not mentioned. As bad as it sounds, guppies are the only tropical fish out there that predatorial amphibious aquatic reptiles can consume that do not have slight traces of toxins as every other tropical fish with a toxity level build up will shorten the life span of these other animals. These animals can eat mosquito minnows some people can catch, but many can't and in cases where a person could get fresh water bass that they sell for human consumption, that could be cut up and be used but I do not live in a area that fresh water fish for human consumption actually is.
    People don't seem to realize, that pet turtles will periodically snip any tropical fish at their fins even if the fish are big in çomparison to the turtle and periodically they will eat other fish. Not even feeder fish are healthy for them and have toxins and to many bones making it unsafe. Since I breed very very rare albino and snow turtles that run anywhere from $350 to $400 dollars ( so about £275 to £325 ) up to $2,000 (£1,500) a baby and later this year I will have some ranging $4,000 ( £3,250) each baby, there is no way that I will risk the baby rare turtles I produce. I also breed the same blue and pink snails you keep also. Now don't think I am mean as all my baby rare turtles that hatched last year, only one of them will steadily eat guppies out of 22 baby turtles from my last clutch. The reason for it, I have a species diet mixture that I mastered that is not live that after 3 months of feeding them this, it discourages the rare turtles from eating guppies. So yes, I rarely lose any guppies at all but periodically, I enjoy going on holidays more than the regular person as I can work on the road and have a employee who I can call to ship baby turtles for me but he is a on call employee only and is not around my animals constantly so having guppies and snails during holidays rest assure that the turtles eat while away from home.
    They won't hardly touch them otherwise. I keep live certain aquatic plants that are safe for them to eat also and of course guppy grass for all. It works well. At the end of the day, I have both pet shops buying a couple hundred guppies from me a month ( several hundred) and established some retail customers as I just started breeding (not for food) the most expensive high quality show guppies like you prefer also though I never bred the more expensive ones at all. I do want to thank you for two things, first is covering the pretty specific number of fry that they have. See I use larger tanks of 40 to 75 gallons for every day fancy tail guppies and I put on a average 40 to 45 adult guppies in each tank this size, one per gallon basically (1 male to every 4 females) sometimes 1.3) of course with alot of hiding place for the fry until I can remove them monthly to raise separate. People are saying do 1.2 or one point 1.3 and against any more but I never understood why. You being a professional guppy breeder, just verified you could do even up to a 1.5 group so thank you. I just never understood on why. Another thing you taught me was the number of fry could be as little as 5 but up to 15. I seen reports of way bigger numbers but have not seen it. Having a bare minimum number is what I go by as a rule of thumb so I don't over populate and produce the minimum monthly. You helped educating me in that area. Now on my expensive bloodlines, show quality bloodlines, I am doing 1.4 groups bred seperated for record purposes on the fry and with aiming for new colour strains.
    I have a few picked out just for this reason alone and I am not bothered what they cost inniatially. I am buying on average starting out with high end Guppies groups of 4 groups of 1 male to 3 females) starting out in high end to do this so with you estimates, I should be able to produce at least 60 fry approximately give or take for the show bloodlines every month which is perfect in my opinion as I have 5 of 6 show quality high end that I will be working with of course in the near future. Being that I sell mostly wholesale on my extra guppies, the outlet is not that difficult. They do make great overall display pets indeed.

    This is hard for many to hear, but guppies make good snacks for omnivorous and carnivorous creatures. Chickens will eat em, garter snakes will eat them, they make good feeders as they lack thiaminase.

    • @supportyourtroopsathletes6460
      @supportyourtroopsathletes6460 3 года назад +3

    I have a 75 gallon tank with 2 blood cichlids will the fry survive?
    Edit: I make sure too keep my cichlids full, so they don't attack any other fish

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  3 года назад +1

      Cichlids and guppies are generally not a good mix. If you have a very heavily planted tank some might survive.

    How do you heat your tanks does each tank have its own heater ???

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  3 года назад +1

      We do not have heaters in the tanks for most of the year because where we live is very hot (80-90f). During winters months we add heaters to all the tanks.

    Is it possible for the guppy to still be pregnant a few days after giving birth, I ask this because my guppy still looks very large and square with dark speckled gravid spots (this is 3 days after giving birth). If you have any experience/knowledge regarding this please share !!?! Thankyou and thanks so much for your helpful videos

    • @breonawarren1507
      @breonawarren1507 3 года назад +1

      To be completely honest, they get pregnant again right away. Female guppies keep sperm inside them, so even long after the male is gone they can get pregnant. Typically every 28 days

    when the female is pregnant can i not just place her in a seperate tank wait for the fry to be hatched and remove her returning her to the previous tank to stop her eating the fry?

      That’s literally what I do lol. When a baby comes out, I catch it and put it in a breeder box till I catch them all and then she goes back in the main tank and the guppies go back to the tank they were born in

    Unfortunately, I will soon only have two small aquariums available. They are a bit too small for "regular" guppies, while Endlers don't have the colors I want. Fortunately, I have some theoretical knowledge, and I'm going to use it to breed my favorite Endler-sized guppy breed.
    Mid-adult males of my favorite breeds will mate with a colorless Endler female. Sons are double sword, daughters have something color. If you do brother x sister, at f2 you will have big tailed males, but slightly smaller than the bought male. Let this also mate with an Endler queen, f3 x f3. And then the f4sons are the Endler version of my favorite guppy breed. I hope the theory works in practice.

    • @Lifewithpets72

      The males will not leave the female alone, you need more females to males to reduce the stress on the female.
