Aman Kyoto does not disclose the access information, but it is basic to visit by taxi. If you take a taxi from Kyoto Station, it will cost around 5000 JPY (35 USD).
The nearest stations are Kitayama, Kitaoji, and Kitano Hakubaicho, but it takes about 50 minutes on foot from there.
The nearest bus stop is around Kinkakuji-michi. It takes 25 minutes on foot from Kinkakuji-michi to Aman Kyoto. It might be a good idea to take a bus to the area around Kinkakuji and pick up a taxi from there.

アマン京都はアクセスを公開していませんが、タクシーでの来訪が基本となります。京都駅からのタクシー乗車だと5000円前後はかかってしまいます。
最寄り駅は北山、北大路、北野白梅町あたりですが、そこからだと徒歩で50分はかかる距離です。
最寄りのバス停は金閣寺道あたりです。金閣寺道からアマン京都までは徒歩で25分はかかります。金閣寺周辺までバスで行き、そこからタクシーを拾うのもいいかもしれません。

I think the hotel staff is friendly to American travelers.
However, most Japanese do not speak English, so it may be difficult to get to the hotel.
In particular, Kyoto taxi drivers are not very responsive.

アマンはよく知ってますが、日本の高級旅館の足元にも及ばないと感じましたよ。
何より、京懐石料理じゃないし、個室でもないし、内湯は眺めが？だし。温泉も、湯量が少ないし(それでは水面の汚れが排出されない)、お湯や景観に光が足りないですね。その値段で朝食ルームサービスが有料って、オールインじゃないんかい😂
あと、温泉にハーブ入れるって…なんでよ😂

There are comments from Japanese viewers that Japanese's understand of their own culture is completely different from foreigners' understanding of the Japanese culture, an allusion to how Aman Kyoto looks different from a traditional Japanese ryokan. The difference is expected, as Aman Kyoto was designed by the late Australian architect, Kerry Hill. Hill never intended to design a traditional Japanese ryokan. Instead, his approach was to blend contemporary elements into traditional Japanese ryokan. Hill passed away before the construction of Aman Kyoto was completed, but team of architects at his firm executed the architecture and interior design after Hill's death. Aman Kyoto won the People's Choice International Architecture Award in 2020 - an honor for both the architects and the hotel.
Some viewers commented that money, $3400 USD per night, was not worth and that guests could at a room at another luxury hotel at about half of that price. I once thought Aman resorts were rip-offs as well, meaning they are overcharged. But as I know more about Aman resorts, I come to conclude that there IS something unique at Aman that distinguishes it from other hotel brands.
The average staff-to-guest ratio in the hotel industry is about 1:1, meaning one staff member per guest. At five-star luxury hotels like Ritz Carlton, the staff-to-guest ratio is around 1.8:1, about two staff members per guest. At Aman, the ratio was an exceptional 6:1 or even 7:1. That is six or seven staff members per guest, a reflection of Aman's commitment to personalized service. That kind of attention to guests is unmatched. Luxury is condition of abundance or great ease and comfort. Aman, with its unmatched staff-to-guest ratio and attention to details, takes luxury to the next level. Aman is not just luxury, but ultra-luxury.
Unlike other luxury hotels like Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, Aman is boutique. Aman Kyoto has 34 rooms and suites in total, while Ritz Carlton Kyoto has 134 rooms, suites and condos. For guests looking for a personalized, one-of-a-kind stay, Aman Kyoto apparently stands out.
Is the price changed by Aman justified? That really depends on what the guests are looking for. With its unmatched staff-to-guest ratio, attention to details, and boutique nature, Aman is an ultra-luxury hotel brand for those looking for personalized, one-of-a-kind experience. *Mostly importantly, the fact that Aman is able to charge such high prices at its resorts reflects that there is a global demand for the services and experiences it offers* .

冷蔵庫の上に飾ってあるオーパスワンはあくまでも見本で、注文するとセラーに大切にしまってあるボトルを持ってきてくれるんでしょうね。庫内にあるクリュッグはまだしも、ルイ・ラトゥールの多分ピュリニー・モンラッシェはシャンパーニュと同じようにキンキンに冷やして飲むんですかねぇ。さらにこの３本を全て飲んだら一体どれだけの金額を請求されるやら…。恐ろしいホテルです。

This hotel looks like it was furnished by Ikea. I can't see why you would pay $3400 a night when you could stay at the Ritz for half that and spend the difference on dinner at Kitcho or whatever.

Its typical modern Japanese furnishing.. all of them looks like IKEA even though it has a high price tag and made from a great wood. Though its also common in any high-end minimalist furnishing around the world to have similar looks from IKEA counterparts

I don't think the staff will be able to send you to your room because the walkway in the standard room is a scaffolding that buggies can't run on.
The bathroom window opened, but you could only see the wall of the next room, no view.

Wow. "A wine called Opus One". That's a $200, 375ml bottle of wine. Which, for those unfamiliar, is half the size of the standard bottle of wine you usually see.

このホテルの近所に住んでいますが、宿泊されるお客さんは基本タクシー移動なので寒さに苦労することはないと思います。そもそも周辺に最寄駅がなく、公共交通を利用するとなるとバスのみで、富裕層はこういった公共交通は使わないです。

I thought the same. I have stayed at very nice places before that also had michelin recommended food, for 10 times as little as this. It looks beautiful, but really not worth the price. Also kind of sloppy that there seemed to be typos on a menu for such expensive food

さびを欧米式に体現したホテルですね。風呂やトイレは日本人には落ち着きとは違う感覚を覚えそうです。
すぐ近隣のしょうざんリゾートには何度か行きましたが昔からの別荘地らしく静かで木々が美しく過ごしやすいエリアです。
テロップはご自分で作成されたのでしょうか？部屋の設備や浴衣や料理などのテロップが一部間違っていたり雑だったりするのが気になりました。せっかく良い物をご紹介されるのなら、提供される物にリスペクトし調べてから文字起こししてほしいです。

正直、歩くのが嫌いだから外を歩いて部屋に戻るとか無理。
雨の日とか特に。敷いてる石も滑りそうだしオシャレだけど転ぶよ自分なら。
ですよね。正直に言うと泊まりたいとは全く思いません。そりゃ元々は風景を気に入って牧場を買いそこを別荘にしようとしたけど「そうだ、ホテルにしよう」とリゾートホテルにしたのがアマンの始まり。でもね、京都は素晴らしい名庭園も、素晴らしい自然も溢れる様にあるんです。
そこへ行こうとしたらこの立地と足元の不安定さで億劫になって旅気分がパー。京都在住で人に会うのが嫌になったから一か月程籠ろうとかなら分かりますが・・。観光の必要もありませんし。
女性の場合、ヒールの高い靴だと歩くのは大変ですね。
泊まった日は運良く晴れていましたが、雨の日だと山歩きもできなくなって魅力が半減するかもしれません。
立地と足元の不安定さはデメリットですが、記憶には残りやすいですね。
高級ホテルに色々泊まってると、ただの無難なホテルは面白みがなかったりするので、そういう人にはいいかもしれません。
あと、アマンは最後にネームタグを渡す戦略がうまいと思います。
