It's what happens when the wrestlers have the freedom to say what they feel is appropriate for the situation, and not a creative team that's disconnected with the fans they have.

This was so brilliant, cuz the crowd boo'd when they wanted to, but even then they still took everything in stride, laughing along. This was just fun, Punk looked like he had a lot of fun with this

It was a very interesting crowd to be a part of. Everyone was loving the heel promo, and enjoying the shit out of booing Punk. The entire crowd was smiling and laughing while they boo. That's what wrestling is all about.
That's exactly how it was when I saw MJF at Grand Slam. I was booing the shit out of him but on the inside I appreciate this man's work lol the crowd is essentially a character of its own and Long Island just turned heel 🤣
I remember, as soon as Punk walked out to MJF's music and he got booed, I laughed my ass off for a good 5 minutes. It was fantastic.

It's the funny thing I have been noticing about AEW. Fans actually want to see and listen to the content because it is good. MJF on another Dynamite literally told the fans to be quiet and they did in Chicago because they wanted to hear everything.

Was part of this crowd, love punk but it was just so fun to boo him there and cheer MJF. Was absolutely the most fun I’ve had at a show...whole crowd from what I knew loves Punk, but we were having tons of fun feeding into the act. ^^

Punk coming out to MJF’s theme as a throwback to everyone saying MJF was going to come out to Cult of Personality before Punk debuted was absolutely brilliant and one of my favorite things AEW has ever done.
I was thinking more of when CM Punk beat Jeff Hardy and everyone knew he was leaving….so the next live show, punk came out to his theme music with face paint😂😂

This is so well done. It really puts over MJF even more than he already was. He legitimizes him in front of his hometown crowd as someone who can be cheered. It adds some dynamism to the feud and Punk is believable in this role and is the perfect guy to work with MJF who is on the precipice of greatness, and really coming into his own as a talent.

Punk has always been a better heel than a face. He feels neutered as a face. His stuff with the Undertaker at WM 29 was legendary.
Punk is still a great face tho but I believe if they weren't building for the bryan vs authority storyline and Paul hadn't betrayed Punk, we might have gotten a continuation for the "hustle loyalty and disrespect" storyline.
Being in the audience for this was hysterical.

I've been watching wrestling in some form or fashion for more than thirty years, and I've never seen a crowd so utterly joyful at the idea of being run down on national television.
Between this and nearly bringing MJF to tears in the next segment, LI's fans were absolutely killing it.

Great segment and brilliant move by AEW for letting Punk come out to MJF's music and talking smack to the crowd.
After peoples obsession with the idea that MJF should've done this during punks debut this was a great play on expectations.
As soon as I saw him come out the heel entrance, I knew he was gonna pull one of the greatest turns of the year.

I think Punk has transcended face and heel at this point. He's so good he can be whatever they need him to be week to week and he makes it look effortless. That whole setup was brilliant. He brings back troll Punk (and there's nobody better), he roasts Long Island, gets some good solid cheap heat, puts MJF over to get a godlike reception, throws in a little Britt Baker boost on the side with that shirt, and furthers the feud. Beautifully done.
This was hilarious and Punk delivered gold.

One of my first wrestling moments was being in the Nassau Coliseum at a live event during the height of the Ryder Revolution. This gives me that energy. LI truly one of the most underrated crowds in wrestling
CM Punk coming out to MJF's theme song, pissing off the crowd, was a genius move lol. It made a set-up for the real entrance of MJF. This way, the crowd supported and gave an even bigger pop and reaction to MJF. Also, not to forget Taz's involvement in the commentary was great too.
Now that is great mic work! Punk knew what he was getting in to, he worked the crowd, said exactly what he needed to to get the reaction he wanted. Love it!
"I'm letting everybody here know right now I have my eyes set on the AEW championship match. The champion, Hangman Adam Page goes against The Dragon, Bryan Danielson and I want next."

I loved this so much. This is wrestling. He skewered the crowd without having to change one iota. They didn't ignore the boos, they embraced them. And next week, everyone will cheer him all the more and boo MJF all the more.

This is a mirror image of Punk's hero Bret in USA mid '97. This was a thing of beauty, how easily Punk can drop digs at the local town, in such a heal way with such ease. Best in the world. That walk away from the ring afterwards was pure cocky heal punk circa 2013.
