This was a tremendous segment. The moment CM Punk showed up, crowd went from loud cheers to loud boos in an instant lol. Then CM Punk insulted MJF's hometown, like MJF did to his last week 😂😂.
Now that is great mic work! Punk knew what he was getting in to, he worked the crowd, said exactly what he needed to to get the reaction he wanted. Love it!
Cool to see how flexible aew wrestlers have with their characters. Cm punk as face can go full heel and receive heat when the time comes and it works and feels fresh.
One of my first wrestling moments was being in the Nassau Coliseum at a live event during the height of the Ryder Revolution. This gives me that energy. LI truly one of the most underrated crowds in wrestling
I love Punk so much, he can read and adapt to any crowd. He knew he wasn't going to get the hero reaction, so he turns up the heat and goes off on the crowd. Brilliant heel work while still being a baby face. He turned the city heel.
This was wonderful! If you noticed, when MJFs music hit, there were cheers but they weren't loud. Punk came out and the reaction was mixed. But once Punk, masterfully played the crowd, when MJF finally arrived, he was thunderously cheered. Punk...*Chefs Kiss*... well done.
This was booked perfectly. Punk is a master at trolling the crowd and setting up a monster pop for MJF's entrance right after this. Excellent as always!
For those jeering him for being "Happy Punk," well, here's a preview of how incredible heel Punk can still be. And this is why he's so good. He can get a reaction as either a face or heel, unlike some tribal chief out there that can really only get over as a heel.
No one can slay CM Punk , the way he roasted Long Island for supporting MJF was god level trolling at its best only wish this segment was extended. Same technique should be followed if someone disturbs & insults you. We are with you CM Punk.
I absolutely love that CM Punk/MJF totally flip Heel/Babyface based on location. Reminds me of when the Hart Foundation was a Heel in USA & Babyface in Canada in like 1996/1997.
I think Punk has transcended face and heel at this point. He's so good he can be whatever they need him to be week to week and he makes it look effortless. That whole setup was brilliant. He brings back troll Punk (and there's nobody better), he roasts Long Island, gets some good solid cheap heat, puts MJF over to get a godlike reception, throws in a little Britt Baker boost on the side with that shirt, and furthers the feud. Beautifully done.
I love what Punk did here. He didn't need to force being a babyface. He knew MJF was going to get cheered so why not lean into that? He knew how to play the crowd just like Bryan Danielson has been doing lately.
CM Punk’s coming out to MJF’s theme at the start of the show and getting heat from the crowd reminded me of when he disguised himself as Jeff Hardy in 2009
This is a mirror image of Punk's hero Bret in USA mid '97. This was a thing of beauty, how easily Punk can drop digs at the local town, in such a heal way with such ease. Best in the world. That walk away from the ring afterwards was pure cocky heal punk circa 2013.

Psh nobody hates MJF 😭
Hopefully no one ever sneaks a mike or a camera showing MJF feeding his parents all the lines they use against him, got to keep kayfabe alive sort of.
@@bxkennedy134 He’s a heel. If no one hates him, he sucks at his job. Same goes for The Miz.
@@janus78 Well, obviously. If his parents didn’t love him, he wouldn’t talk to them, nor be famous. Lol
@David Jones not sure why he's so mad 🤣🤣
As soon as I saw him come out the heel entrance, I knew he was gonna pull one of the greatest turns of the year.
He came out the face entrance
Punk looks like he was having a lot of fun in this segment
It’s not about heel or face, it’s getting a reaction and telling the story no matter where you are.
Punk...*Chefs Kiss*... well done.
Very subtle.
I agree but please dont put "chefs kiss" 🤮
Agree. The crowd was dead the first time lol.
This was booked perfectly. Punk is a master at trolling the crowd and setting up a monster pop for MJF's entrance right after this. Excellent as always!
@Mr Happy Folger who cares
@@nicolascabral8132 not me
The only Heel punk we saw in AEW and it was only one segment and was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
For those jeering him for being "Happy Punk," well, here's a preview of how incredible heel Punk can still be. And this is why he's so good. He can get a reaction as either a face or heel, unlike some tribal chief out there that can really only get over as a heel.
uh he was a good babyface, the crowd were smarks who were pissed at a good looking dude getting over.
Punk set up mjf to completely get the welcome he deserved. There couldn't be a mixed reaction once this happened. Very smart by aew.
Heel promo rooted in face ethics, loving it. Punk ought to be a tweener, he'd have much more flexibility with his promos!
that's why cm punk is smart playing with mjf hometown crowd and enjoying with them
No one can slay CM Punk , the way he roasted Long Island for supporting MJF was god level trolling at its best only wish this segment was extended. Same technique should be followed if someone disturbs & insults you. We are with you CM Punk.
Thank you AEW for recognizing the fans as participants, not just spectators. This is real wrestling.
I absolutely love that CM Punk/MJF totally flip Heel/Babyface based on location. Reminds me of when the Hart Foundation was a Heel in USA & Babyface in Canada in like 1996/1997.
97. Bret turned heel the night after WM 13 which was in 97.
No one was more offended by that promo more than Taz 😂
I think Punk has transcended face and heel at this point. He's so good he can be whatever they need him to be week to week and he makes it look effortless. That whole setup was brilliant. He brings back troll Punk (and there's nobody better), he roasts Long Island, gets some good solid cheap heat, puts MJF over to get a godlike reception, throws in a little Britt Baker boost on the side with that shirt, and furthers the feud. Beautifully done.
CM Punk made Dynamite must watch
CM Punk pointed out the fact that Long Island is a heel and destroyed that crowd. I almost feel sorry for them, almost.
That crowd sucked and punk played them well 💪💪
i'm so impressed with AEW, they know how to treat the crowd
That crowd was so conflicted. 😂😂😂
Underrated comment
it was confusing, no one expected Punk to come out like that 🤣
I love what Punk did here. He didn't need to force being a babyface. He knew MJF was going to get cheered so why not lean into that? He knew how to play the crowd just like Bryan Danielson has been doing lately.
@Mr Happy Folger damn bruh 155 comments in 4 weeks admit it you're a fan
I had to laugh at when C.M. Punk mentioned his dog, Larry around 7:13-7:19.
I didn't know that Larry was even "fixed", either...
I was there live. Holy shit the place EXPLODED for this shit. The place was so divided and it was such a wild experience
CM Punk’s coming out to MJF’s theme at the start of the show and getting heat from the crowd reminded me of when he disguised himself as Jeff Hardy in 2009
I love how Tony Kahn did the thing that everyone thought MJF would do in Chicago Punk did in LI
This is a mirror image of Punk's hero Bret in USA mid '97. This was a thing of beauty, how easily Punk can drop digs at the local town, in such a heal way with such ease. Best in the world. That walk away from the ring afterwards was pure cocky heal punk circa 2013.
Anyone that Taz does not like such as CM Punk .. I like that guy even more. CM Punk is still GOLD on the mic.
Now this is what you call a promo , passion non pg ,not catered to kids just shots fired , beautifully done
Cm Punk just Bill Burr'd Long Island lmao
Not even close
Literally a modern day version of what Bret Hart did in The US just excellent man.
CM Punk is a master at working the crowd!
When Punk said that, "The Islander can't understand how to put a puck in the net", that's savage. 🤣
Now trotz is out of a job
It’s crazy how much this promotion grew
Ever since they got Jericho, Punk, and Danielson, the rocket is soaring
