What I love about the Thunderhawk is how it embodies something that got slowly eroded away by media depictions of 40k: It's both an assault lander and a groungs to space/space to ground vehicle. At least as stuff used to be depicted (particularly by forgeworld) most assault aircraft are pure aeronautica (atmospheric aircraft) and orbital transports are huge machines not generally capable of deployment into combat. This is supposed to make direct assault from orbit a somewhat uniquely Space Marine thing. The Astra Militarum typically lands in uncontested areas (typically far away from any enemy presence) and takes days, if not weeks to establish landing zones/beachheads were their forces are landed and from were they are deployed to their actual tasks.

I wouldn't be the first to point out that the Thunderhawk is far from aerodynamic, but what bothers me more is that it is not clear how it stays aloft when hovering. The game Space Marine 2 adds in numerous small rockets pointing lining the edges near the bottom. Also the universe does have anti-gravity tech, but neither of those are visible on model.
@@Rasaiel literally. We already have somewhat avionics that can make the knife shapes we have fly because the aerodynamics are not as nearly as we would want them to be.
Yeah they didn't go into how it's VTOL capable, given that it's a giant armoured brick. There was mention of maneuvering thrusters but they seem a bit too weak for VTOL. Those giant engines seem stationary as well. My only other guess is the same as yours, some sort of internal anti-grav tech.

I love your videos, so informative and entertaining... I hope one day you guys would be willing to cover imperial shock troops, normal regiments, and the sheer size of the thousands of units in battles that occur. Thank you for all the hard work you guys do!
You forgot one of the most standout features. The ability for it to puncture through the hull of a starship, for boarding missions, allowing marines to exit the side door or foward ramp and take the fight on board.

Hopefully you plan on making more similar content on other 40k vehicles!

Tu m'as beaucoup inspiré, je pense que je vais commencer par ce sublime avion. Avant de passer au pod, pour agrémenter mes tables de jeu, et mes parties narratives. Merci
I think one of my favorite concepts for a transport ship came from Hammer's Slammers. The lightly armed and shielded transport ships for the Planetary Siege Tanks known as BOLO's carried the vehicles mounted upside down in a similar position to the Thunderhawk. That way the BOLO's weapons, sensors and shields could be used as a force multiplier during transit. To the unknowing, you'd think, oh that's nice... But in the Slammer universe, that means an enemy fleet going after a handful of 'unescorted transports' were likely to be decimated, including capital ships.
awesome episode! I'd love to hear about the other aircraft of the Space Marines a bit more, as they are a bit underrepresented in the lore and in Tabletop
I love it! You asked what we wanted next, so I'd say that it would be amazing if you could dive in the details of the imperial ships (Navy, Space marines and Mechanicus of course) Thanks a lot!
I can’t wait to see more of this. Maybe starwars or the full size if a halo flood infestation would be cool too. However, this channels WH40K coverage is absolutely amazing. Truly a work of art.
I Need one of these videos for every Unit/Armament/Race and piece of technology and worlds in 40k all tucked in its own playlist so i can go to sleep to them please!
The art style of these videos is so frackin awesome, it works so well with 40k, the Marines are even still shown with bases! its reminds me of the sort of miniature action picts in the imperial armour books 🔥 Cavill Protects =C=
The greatest thing the Imperium ever did was to perfect the Infinite Ammunition Bin. This technology, which enables an ammo magazine to carry nearly infinite amounts of ammunition, is one of the cornerstones of the Imperium's continued success. This is how a Boltgun magazine can carry 30 or more rounds, when from the outside, it only appears to have room for a handful.
I have a question about attrition and losses!!! In the space marine 2 campaign I would assume there are at least between 100-200 marines dying in the campaign in the system to the tyranids and chaos which accounts for at least 1/10th of the ultramarine’s total chapter strength. That is a crazy amount of strength to lose in a matter of days. How do these chapters replenish their units? How quickly?
After going through training and surgery Marines will serve in the Scout core until they are slotted into an Company, be it that they get along or that the company has some vacancies open up. The Scouts number more than 1000 and are not considered part of that flimsy 1000 Marine count.
Space Marine 2 takes place in the Dark Imperium period, so at that point (upgraded) marines can be mass produced again. They have to keep founding new chapters just so they can stick to the 1000 limit.
Prior to the final mission you can see about 83 surviving, combat ready members of 2nd Company. We do not see all that many dead marines through the campaign, and hear of only one squad (some of whom are the same ones we find) being lost. I suspect, at least before , that the casualties are way, way lower than 1-200. Closer to 15, plus or minus 5 more critically injured. Also, combat ineffective and actually killed are quite different for space marines. They can recover from incredible wounds if evacuated, and even then the most seriously wounded will be placed into dreadnoughts. It is undoubtedly an usually costly theater, but there was an unusually dangerous complication (on top of the Tyranids) to the theater as well.
I love the over-the-top aesthetics of 40k. That being said, the coolest feature of the Thunderhawk is going supersonic albeit having the aerodynamics of a brick
Great video !!! I would like more videos about all the Aircrafts of WH 40K. Even the fighters and bombers from the other factions such as "Orks", "Dark Eldars", "Eldars" and of course... "The Imperium of Man".
I'd love to see a "true size of a Krieg Regiment" video pls. I think it would be really awe inspiring since they are designated siege regiments/corps. plus they have such high attrition that their logistics network might need a video of its own.
... so no seatbelts or restraints. Very Grimdark. Imagine a Thunderhawk getting shot down, spinning uncontrollably in the sky. Now imagine the chaotic scene inside the assault hold with all those astartes, now also spinning, getting tossed around like several ton soda cans. Throw a dreadnought in there for fun. Absolutely brutal. Send me in via drop pod instead ... please...
They do infact have restraints/seats and mag locks that hold the marines in place it just depends on the thunderhawk transport. And what is expected at the other end. Are they doing a simple meeting with locals for recruitment of aspirants or are they hot dropping into a active hot lz or are they doing a stealth insert. Just depends and nothing is standard I'm wh40k, everything is basically bespoke.
Commissar Kain series (for example) makes it a point to talk about about seatbelts in this thing and how he had problems with them, being smaller than your average passenger. But they are still there.
This is one of the reasons why Guilliman or the Ultra marines are the strongest faction in terms of an upscale war. They are very versatile and can fight you in your own field while still using other tactics that you are not comfortable at dealing with.

And it’s younger(?) brother, the Overlord
8:10 Acheran: best I can do is 3.
I must say how appreciative I am for the fact that @Invicta took the time to put so much effort and detail into this lore video! I can’t think of any other 40k content creator that has done something like this! I hope this isn’t going to be the only one you create? Hopefully you plan on making more similar content on other 40k vehicles!
Please do not stop the 40k content it's so good
I would love to hear Xenos Army overviews as told from the perspective of Ordo Xenos to keep the imperium theme.
I can't believe this is free content 😮! Amazing, we truly are living in Warhammer golden age
I'd love to see a visual representation of the forces of a Necron Tomb World or a T'au cadre, they are my favorite factions along the Astra Militarum
HERETIC
I wish I had a thunderhawk. Cool ride to pick up girls with
Lol
You can pick up an entire platoon of girls
Girls will Hauk tuah for a Thunderhawk
Fuck that, I'm picking up my battle brothers and taking them to Disneyland
You can't pick up chicks in a tank, but you probably could in a dropship!
This Series on Warhammer 40k is fucking Amazing. Amazing work all round.
@5:59 visualizing better what Titus and his brothers experienced when they travelled to their missions
with all that armor, its still amazing that the ones seen in SM2 were either badly damaged and needed repairs when they landed, or even crashed
Absolutely love it. Would love to see "Size of an Imperial Battlefleet" next.
Thanks for a truly fantastic video! Your amazing 3D digital modeling gets us as close as a mortal will come to walking through the iconic Thunderhawk vessel! Keep up the fantastic work, Invicta. The Emperor Protects!⚔🔥😎👻🙌
I love how this is like a History channel segment :)
Recently I downloaded a three 40K mods for Arma 3 and the Thubderhawk turned out far larger than I expected.
How is there enough lore in the 40k universe to make such a detailed video about a single vehicle… I cant imagine how much else is out there
FOR THE EMPEROR! That was very Informative.
Finally
Invicta showcasing some Real Technological marvels
Incredible Vibe
Mostly Beautiful work
Interior model’s struggling
Tyranid notable bioforms next? Love the animations
This is awesome. I would love to see a feature of the Carcharodons chapter. Details on ships, war gear , etc.
Excellent work explaining the true versatility of this beast!
Love your work invicta. One faction I'd love a deep dive into, the Adeptus Mechanicus. Their unique weaponry and means of warfare are both strange and efficient.
Love to see them cover sisters of battle, choas like slaanesh etc.
Amazing video and gives great depth of how the Astartes deploy for those not acquainted.
amazing job
yall must be having the time of your lives making these 🔥
I have never played 40k, but I will watch this
heck I know it's fantasy I am impressed those missiles and bolters under the wings do not explode and still work with repeated re-entries and the fact this thing can only fly thru brute engine power
This was incredibly well done and thorough. Subbed
Very accurate of a thunder hawk love that, you bringed the new one some light and i like it !
FOR THE EMPEROR !
This is absolutely fantastic! I hope it becomes a series! Tanks next please!
Its nice to have a break from the primairs stuff for a change
An in dept view on a real battleship like an Legion Battle Barge would be so great. So we could get the scale and capabilities of a chapters flagship.
I love the mention of STC's there 3:30. An old tech from humanity's DAOT
They still look as aerodynamic as a brick, especially those wings :'D
“Flies pretty good for a brick.”
Would love to see breakdown of Dreadnoughts. There are so many weapons for them, and so many different kinds!
awesome episode! I'd love to hear about the other aircraft of the Space Marines a bit more, as they are a bit underrepresented in the lore and in Tabletop
"Wings" 40k addition 🤣 Awesome video!
I love it! You asked what we wanted next, so I'd say that it would be amazing if you could dive in the details of the imperial ships (Navy, Space marines and Mechanicus of course) Thanks a lot!
My new favorite 40K channel😎
You lost me at the wing mounted lasguns helping clear the landing site. Those are fixed guns, so how useful could they be for clearing a landing site?
Followed because of the recent 40k content but I love history so I’ll stay for that
I can’t wait to see more of this. Maybe starwars or the full size if a halo flood infestation would be cool too. However, this channels WH40K coverage is absolutely amazing. Truly a work of art.
Maybe the Valkyrie and it's *many* variants next?
I Need one of these videos for every Unit/Armament/Race and piece of technology and worlds in 40k all tucked in its own playlist so i can go to sleep to them please!
The art style of these videos is so frackin awesome, it works so well with 40k, the Marines are even still shown with bases! its reminds me of the sort of miniature action picts in the imperial armour books 🔥
Cavill Protects =C=
Thus was well presented, very enjoyable
I always loved how the wings aren't there for any amount of aerodynamics but purely to carry weaponry.
I would love to see a video about a space marine legion as they are of truly epic scale of both warhammer and the series.
ah yes the thunderhawk aka "the brick" aka "that thing would never fly"
without anti gravity, that is
At 11:00, are those seats on the floor meaning the pilots legs have to go straight out in front of them?
This video was so good I stopped looking at my main monitor!
@@Writh811an addendum: below the Scouts, each chapter has hundreds of aspirants that have yet to receive any physical alterations yet.
Spectacular work and art, as allways
The Thunderhawk is pretty awesome, but to fit 30 marines into that you would have to stack them on top of each other XD
Amazing video and animations!
I'd love to see a "true size of a Krieg Regiment" video pls. I think it would be really awe inspiring since they are designated siege regiments/corps. plus they have such high attrition that their logistics network might need a video of its own.
those WH40k Videos are so cool! Please do more!
Brilliant video guys
... so no seatbelts or restraints.
@@stormlord2178explains why they're so weak compared to the forces from the Rift series.
Marines have magnetic boots. All good in the hood.
Commissar Kain series (for example) makes it a point to talk about about seatbelts in this thing and how he had problems with them, being smaller than your average passenger. But they are still there.
Well Done. MOAR!!!
This is one of the reasons why Guilliman or the Ultra marines are the strongest faction in terms of an upscale war. They are very versatile and can fight you in your own field while still using other tactics that you are not comfortable at dealing with.
Would love to see you do a version of this for the Corvus Blackstar, that would be epic
Invictus Potense!
The Emperor Protects!
What the heck Invicta! You the man
