Now he's about to stop an entire Tyranid swarm and ANOTHER Chaos incursion. Demote that man to Private, he'll bring all the Primarchs back to life, fix the warp storms, save the Imperium, put the Emperor back to sleep before he goes warp-god-super-saiyan, and snake Yvraine while he's at it.
What I feel was Leandro's failing, was contacting inquisition directly with his concerns rather than chapter librarian and letting them to judge the situation. His concern was certainly legit, I feel method he went about it perhaps not.
Not to mention the inherent shame he could bring to a first founding chapter by having a Captain accused of potential heresy is insane; especially for the squeaky clean ultramarines.
The entire point of the chain of contact regarding possible treachery and heresy is to ensure that they only go to the inquisition with valid, and entirely true, threats. Leandros' accusation led to a radical, possibly heretical, inquisitor being swayed by a simple rank and file Ultramarine (compared to a Captain, Chaplain or Librarian). The simple fact the inquisition didn't try to label the entire chapter excommunicae traitoris is a miracle
The Horus Heresy series already converted me, specifically the Decimation of Ultramar period with the Word Bearer's ultimate betrayal. Those books were *chefs kiss*. Actually made Ultramarines look like the angels of death they actually are instead of just the typical "good guys".
I fondly remember when games like BG1 had nice chunky lore booklets to really give you the feel of the world before you played..... The first half of this vid really gives me the feel of that sort of game-prep lore.... it works perfectly to hype you up to play Titus again. I know this vid was sponsored by Focus, but kinda wish they would ask Leutin to provide a combined 40k/Titus primer and add it to the download of the game.... if you know 40k then you'd watch because you probably love his vids.... if you were new to the 40k Universe, it would be the perfect into to that world. Great vid, as always.
Demetrian Titus is Uriel Ventris by another name. Both had a more flexible interpretation of the codex, both had a tattletale sergeant that questioned them, both had to do the penance thing. At least Titus didn't wake up the Nightbringer...
As someone who has consumed hundreds of hours in 40k audiobooks and RUclips vídeos, I enjoy Ultramarines and how they are portrayed, they aren’t a complicated faction. Easy to follow and understand
Titus' resistance to the Warp could be a gift from Big E. He always had a penchant for nudging things in a certain direction without making his participation known. On the other hand, thoughts like that sound like I'm suggesting that not all Warp is bad, which some Inquisitor will definitely dub as heresy.
I came to this channel for the Arma Zeus gameplay, but I stayed for the 40k lore. You really are one of the biggest driving forces that got me into the hobby, and I can't thank you enough for the colossal effort it must have been to compile so much lore and knowledge. Thank you Luetin.
@Lurtin09 correct me if I’m wrong, but Leandros was wrong, turning him over to the inquisition for the codex states the his concern should’ve been taken to the chapter Chaplins. For it’s is there duty to maintain the purity of the chapter.
I have wondered since the first game how Titus was captain of the second company, especially since when the game came out, the table top had Sicarus at the head. I finally get to have that question answered. I also appreciate a lot of the parallels between titus and uriel ventris.
This is why I love Space Wolves and Salamanders. The most human of the Space Marines and the ones that give a shit about humanity instead of it just being "what they're made to do."
Nope. Chaplains and Librarians should have been the ones alerted to Leandros's concerns. Clearly Calgar and chapter command weren't happy about it either considering they demanded Titus back.
It's like calling the CIA on your boss because the homeless didn't shank him on sight. Just because he survived walking down a dark ally, doesn't automatically mean that he's in cahoots with the criminals that roam it, and even If that is the case, you skipped SEVERAL groups of people you were supposed to inform before going straight to the nuclear option.
Most people assumed it was oversight by the devs, but the second game reinforces the idea that Leandros def fucked up lmao Given he was "promoted" to Chaplain and the Chapter himself states he was livid at the situation tells me that the Devs know their lore and Leandros is a hypocrite who is thankfully paying the price for it. If he wants to cast suspicion and seek corruption, then let him be in a position which trains him for it. Makes sense to me, at least.
That’s the thing I love most about Titus. He really, truly is everything an ultramarine should be. Which is, certainly, being exactly what the emperor intended a space marine to be in the first place. Like the quote at the start said “wear the mantle of hero, inspire where you can. But remember always; we are the angles of death. Not of mercy or salvation” As good as he is at killing, he really does inspire and wear the mantle of hero. Especially compared to he must not be named. He will always suck for what he did to Titus. But…it hopefully will lead to being what they both needed to change and become better servants of the imperium and even the chapter. As Titus even said, he has learned much about how he also failed to be a better leader. Let’s just hope he that must not be named also has learned much in his many decades since he fucked over big poppa T.
I've been watching your content and learning so much about 40k for a couple years now, and I hope this video helps bring some weight to the Space Marine 2 campaign and brings your channel and the game even more success. I've been forcing my friends to listen to me rant about the minor things a person not familiar with 40k wouldn't grasp, and this video encompasses all that in an awesome format. Thank you. The only thing that could make Space Marine 2's campaign and story MORE epic, is understanding these subtle nuances and screaming like an 8 year old when seeing Calgar and WHY he's such a badass. Thanks for this!
I saw an interview with a former Relic employee how Space Marine should have been continuing after the first title. Originaly the plan was for Titus to become a chapter master and the second game should have been about building your own new chapter. But this idea was scrapped it seems now.
There was also talk that Titus was supposed to become a Deathwatch member or a Grey Knight in the second game too, continuing his story and delving further into his resistance to chaos
As someone who was in the military, if there is an issue with your command, you dont go OUTSIDE the chain to ask for help. You go to the next layer of command to request inspection. Leandros going outside of the chapter, never mind just going to another captain, he went to the inquistion! He should have reached out first to a chaplain, or sent the request to a leader above Titus. IF THEY ignored it, THEN going to the inquistion after hearing the answers from within his chapter, MAY and i cant stress enough, MAY be warranted.... What he did, in OUR WORLD, would have ended his carreer. He would never advance in rank, and would have been excluded and ignored by his squad mates because he cannot be trusted to carry out orders. His constant questioning of his superior IN BATTLE, would have risked the lives of his team. NO ONE wants that. If hes busy questioning, hes not busy watching the ACTIVE WAR around him. In 40k, that war is SO MUCH worse than anything we have in our world, and he would likely have been killed the second time he went off like he did by HIS OWN SQUAD. This has been shown on several occasions in the books. SM' s dont play.
@@weir-t7y nope, he became the next chaplain.... so he was REWARDED for his actions, actions proven to be wrong, and harmful to not only his captain, but his division and chapter. only took 100 years and serious luck to "fix" his error in judgement.

i'm really hyped about the implication of the 1k Sons (my favorite legion). Since they first appeared in the trailer i knew they might be involved with Titus's resilience to warp energy. But why tho ? And also, that Sorcerer leading the Tzangors, what a badass look !
Leandros was wrong in contacting an inquisitor as opposed of a Chapter Chaplain. He not only went outside the chain of command but outside the Chapter. That to me makes him more of a traitor than Titus could have been.
Leoandros is the one corrupted by Tzeentch. He doesn't even follow the codex himself. He should have reported Titus to his chapter and not to the inquisition. Leandros' plan was basically: just let the demon ascend and do nothing.
Leandros was 100% correct to report the clear and present risk that Titus's nature and actions represent to the Ultramarines. What he did wrong was contacting the Inquisition, not the Chaplain and Chapter Master in order to manage the matter internally.
I've been playing a lot of Space Marines 2, loving the game, but your lore videos really make me appreciate the game even more. So thank you for making all of these videos so I can better understand the lore of the game I'm playing.
I still think Leandross is a big bag of suck. Perils ofthe warp? Totally valid concern. Tattling to the INQUISITION the first chance he gets? That still seems a bit excessive, especially when the Ultramarines have such a powerful psyker as mentioned in the video that could clear up the situation and keep it in-house. Just my personal opinion. But then again, i usually lean much more towards the Ciaphas Cain school of thought.
Oh nah you're totally right. What's supposed to happen is Leandros reports Titus to the Company Chaplain or Librarian and they do their investigation. The Chaplain's whole entire purpose it to make sure the Company Astartes are all loyal and not tainted by any warp nonsense. The last thing any Space Marine chapter wants is the inquisition being all up in their business. What Leandros did was extremely reckless and dangerous, he could have gotten that whole entire company of space marines killed and the ultramarines as a whole investigated by the inqusition.
IIRC part of the original plans for the Space Marine series before the original developer closed up was for Titus to become the leader of a new Chapter. So now, that would mean he becomes Chapter Master of a new Ultima-Founding Chapter.
Titus has always been among my favorite Space Marines. Sure there are others, but Titus' qualities and traits are very heroic, a worthy son of Roboute Guilliman. And I got to say Leandros has been wrong. I don't know what his fate is, but I like to see him be chastised by either Marneus Calgar or Roboute himself, if he's able to have lived. Or perhaps something has happened to him that made him realize that what Titus did was right but it was too late for him as he perhaps lost his life to some battle.
this is such a great video not only because of the quality as always but this is a really awesome entry point level of lore introduction for all the new people that are going to soon discover 40k from the new game
Thanks for the look back at the first game. It's been an age and a half since I played that. I think SM1 might have been my first exposure into 40k and I certainly didn't have the knowledge of the franchise I do now thanks to you.
Other chapters appear to already be in the games multiplayer, with a Dark Angels focused ‘season’ already listed on the steam page… so Salamanders are in all likelihood there on launch

What I feel was Leandro's failing, was contacting inquisition directly with his concerns rather than chapter librarian and letting them to judge the situation. His concern was certainly legit, I feel method he went about it perhaps not.
The Codex definitely had a section for reporting concerns to the Chapter first if Learchus and Uriel is any indicator.
Does seem like something that would go against the Codex Astartes.
Not to mention the inherent shame he could bring to a first founding chapter by having a Captain accused of potential heresy is insane; especially for the squeaky clean ultramarines.
@@dustindubbo2892 i bet money that was the idea behind this little plot point, some smurf hater writer went 'imma ruin the smurf whole stichk"
What a timing. Thank you Luetin! Titus was my entry into 40k. Has a special place amongst the greatest.
Space marine 2 about to convert me to being an ultramarine fan.

Would love both of them to team up..
Considering people think that the DLC will star necrons, it's best to add a "yet" to the end of that comment hahahaha
On the other hand, thoughts like that sound like I'm suggesting that not all Warp is bad, which some Inquisitor will definitely dub as heresy.
it is also established in the Gaunt's Ghost books, that people with sufficient will can also resist corruption.

@Lurtin09 correct me if I’m wrong, but Leandros was wrong, turning him over to the inquisition for the codex states the his concern should’ve been taken to the chapter Chaplins. For it’s is there duty to maintain the purity of the chapter.
And lucky he didn't 💀

what my question is, was leandros justified in calling the *inquisition* instead of calling the second company's chaplain to investigate titus?
Nope. Chaplains and Librarians should have been the ones alerted to Leandros's concerns. Clearly Calgar and chapter command weren't happy about it either considering they demanded Titus back.
@@khinzaw77 that's what i thought, but i wasn't sure
It's like calling the CIA on your boss because the homeless didn't shank him on sight. Just because he survived walking down a dark ally, doesn't automatically mean that he's in cahoots with the criminals that roam it, and even If that is the case, you skipped SEVERAL groups of people you were supposed to inform before going straight to the nuclear option.
Most people assumed it was oversight by the devs, but the second game reinforces the idea that Leandros def fucked up lmao
Given he was "promoted" to Chaplain and the Chapter himself states he was livid at the situation tells me that the Devs know their lore and Leandros is a hypocrite who is thankfully paying the price for it. If he wants to cast suspicion and seek corruption, then let him be in a position which trains him for it. Makes sense to me, at least.
No. In fact, Leandros violated the Codex Astartes which he holds in such high regard by doing that. What he did was inexcusable.
A truer Son of Ultramar there has never been!!
Not of mercy or salvation”
As good as he is at killing, he really does inspire and wear the mantle of hero.
There was also talk that Titus was supposed to become a Deathwatch member or a Grey Knight in the second game too, continuing his story and delving further into his resistance to chaos
the hammer+jump pack in SM1 was quite possibly some of the most fun I had in a game.
That's more or less what happened to him
@@weir-t7y nope, he became the next chaplain.... so he was REWARDED for his actions, actions proven to be wrong, and harmful to not only his captain, but his division and chapter. only took 100 years and serious luck to "fix" his error in judgement.

Luetin, we have talked about this. My sleep schedule is erratic enough. :P
i'm really hyped about the implication of the 1k Sons (my favorite legion). Since they first appeared in the trailer i knew they might be involved with Titus's resilience to warp energy. But why tho ? And also, that Sorcerer leading the Tzangors, what a badass look !
Titus was my first introduction to 40k 😢 the ending on space marine 1 made me feel so betrayed and now on 2 the endijg was shocking af

For me it‘s above amazing that the Deathwatch finally get‘s some love
Cringe
@@Rockadela_ , i agree, Leandross is massively cringe.
I hope Titus gets his captaincy back and then t-bag leandros

Titus has always been among my favorite Space Marines. Sure there are others, but Titus' qualities and traits are very heroic, a worthy son of Roboute Guilliman.
And I got to say Leandros has been wrong. I don't know what his fate is, but I like to see him be chastised by either Marneus Calgar or Roboute himself, if he's able to have lived. Or perhaps something has happened to him that made him realize that what Titus did was right but it was too late for him as he perhaps lost his life to some battle.
