I always thought the Dreadnoughts were the Ultimate Ultimatum of the Astartes service. While they effectively have “no lifespan” there is something really tragic about that if they survive a mortal wounding or near death but need extreme means to survive, they’re placed in a box they’re trapped in that get puts in stasis most of the time and from which they see so many of their brothers disappear, more than any others. A box where they can never feel the sensation of the outside world ever again until death. They ARE the oldest space marines, but turned into effectively immortal super tanks, until they are outmaneuvered or swarmed in numbers. Duty didn’t let them die and now they must be at its mercy in a state that must be a real hell, for the glorious Emperor of Man. Big respects for the Dreadnoughts, may the most ancient be preserved for their knowledge is invaluable in this grim time for the 41st millennium.
My favorite dreadnought moment is when some Tau find one immobilized with its carapace cracked open. Not only is the marine inside older than the entire Tau empire, the limbless sonofabitch spits at them.
I happily remember a story where the tau were cleaning up after a victory only to discover the chunk of screaming meat in a war machine older than their civilization. Humanity as the eldritch horrors.

My Space Marine army is that of the Doom Eagles, which employs Primaris Space Marines and Redemptor Dreadnoughts, sticking with the theme that the Second Founding chapter is relatively new and they believe that they are already dead so as to fight harder for the Emperor. I don't remember exactly where this is from. But I remember the scene well, and it shows a perfect example of how the pilots of Dreadnaughts can slowly lose their mind over time. It was a Thousand Sons Dreadnought being awoken for his wisdom. And the Marine inside asked when they would once more march alongside their primarch in service to the emperor. (It may have actually been their fellow legions and not the emperor). And the Marine who awoke him gave a moment to lament a bit on how the Dreadnought's mind had deteriorated so much. That despite having fought in the hersey (and I believe be wounded in it), he had completely forgotten his legion turned traitor. Something that wasn't the case the last time he was roused from his slumber.

It seems like in the Imperium, the technology of bipedal war machines usually requires a human sacrifice. Weather it's a Titan, a Knight, a Dreadnought, or even a Penitence Engine. Once a human gets linked up, it's matter of time before they become inseparable. Eventually the person cannot be taken out of the machine. Ergo, the logical choice for pilots are either those who are mortally wounded, those who are to be punished, or those who have trained their whole lives just to last a bit longer than the average human. I strongly suspect that Dreadnaughts and Penitence Engines were once the same technology, back in the Dark Age of Technology.
16:12 - Carab Culln the risen! The tabletop model itself is an artifact-level unit, but to actually survive both Badab and Vraks alone is reason enough to earn the honor of eternal service as a Leviathan Dreadnought. He would look great also reimagined as Brutalis, I think.
Once again a brilliant dive into a subject we all thought we knew about until the lore master presents us with his knowledge . Thanks Lt another amazingly fantastic piece.
The Leviathan is pretty terrifying to meet, but then you also remember that during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, it was also armed with phosphex launchers.
The Leviathan dreadnought is the best-looking dreadnought, in my opinion. I proxy mine as a redemptor or brutalis. I loved running the autocannon and grav cannon with volkite in 9th edition.
Bruh I randomly opened my phone and apparently I was halfway through this video despite never clicking it. The Emperor works in mysterious ways I guess.

Got to love me a good dreadnought! :) Glad to see the updated video. Good work. A small thing though. Around 55:00 Leutin start talking about chaplains and, for once, I feel he gets the lore wrong, or at least plays it down. Most Space Marines chapters have never acknowledged the doctrines or religious supremacy of the Ecclesiarchy, as he said, but Chaplains are not mere people to uphold appearances (while they do that as well, to a lesser degree, especially with the Rosarius). That is not their primary duty. They are learned in the Chapter's Cult, take care of their brothers psychological needs, and keeper of relics. And yes, prayer and faith, faith that the Emperor was an incredible man and that all he stands for is worthy of veneration. They are an integral part of any Chapter and not an afterthought. Might just be the wording he used, but it felt off for me. Otherwise, great video!
Ehh it would make more sense cause it already been said As long as Sanguinius needs him and dante has a single drop of blood left he must serve. Do a better joke.
I love turn based games using hexes and yet I wouldn't touch Tacticus with a 6 foot pole, it looks like a typical mobile vomit and knowing GW the microtransactions are extremely oppressive.
it’s honestly p bad in terms of upgrading characters but since i work 12 hour shifts it’s a time killer in between tasks. it’s entertaining as long as you dont take it too seriously
It's a licensed mobile game. They basically made a game then licensed the IP from GW to add the textures, skins and character names. It's not made by GW. From what I understand it's pretty good as far as mobile games go not requiring micro transactions to really do anything but the attempts to get you with FOMO for special characters can be annoying.
Yeah I mean it's not the worst offender, just don't pay for anything. It can be grindy but you can get all the currencies without paying cash. It is my time wasting game.
I do like the idea of not just Blood Angels having Libby Dreads and not just Black Temps having Chaplain Dreads. I don't mind them having the most of those things, but I think it makes sense for most chapters to have one. I can't see why people like the Deredeo, it just looks completely silly to me. Redemptors are awesome but I am not fond of the Brutalis/Ballistus forcing focus instead of having options. And the Ballistus still looks silly.
Not going to lie. It would be cool to see a tabletop battle between luetin, baldy, ab prince, and vox. I feel like it would be such an epic fight. Maybe even take donations for charity or something once a year. Battle of the 4 YT lore gods.

And the fact that Redemptor Dreadnoughts burn out faster would not deter them, means that the Doom Eagles are an unstopable force of assault from the Air and steamrollers on the ground. I love Warhammer 40K
*Grabs a cold one and some snacks, Lutin is talking about my fave unit for over an hour.
*opening music, voice in my head: At last, back to war! My autocannon will speak untill it has run out of words, for even in death I still serve!
A Dorito Dreadnought?...
Sounds delicious!
Twin-linked cheese launcher and guacamelee fist made the Dorito Dreadnought lethal to diets everywhere.
Sadly it was of the Buffalo Blazin Ranch variant and as we know the stc for that was lost
@@EpicMogi Buffalo/BlueCheese was my Kryptonite, and the STC for that was lost as well...
@@edwhatshisname3562 never had either. Mine was from an age long past before the advent of STC’s and this is not a typo. Salsa Rio Doritos.
Jalapeno Cheddar 3d Dorito mk5. Also lost to time brother.
Even though RUclips is the only platform that I use for video content, there are only 3 people I have the bell on for. Backyard Scientist, Cleetus McFarland, and Luetin. They are the only people that can cause my phone to make noise when a video is posted.
hahaha yep heavydsparks is a good one aswell
Hell yeah brother cleeters that dude for sure

I’ve literally JUST found a copy of Vulkan Lives at a reasonable price! PRAISE THE EMPEROR!
This was an absolute gem of a video. I'm getting into 40k and this was such a great video to understand the dreadnoughts. Thank you! 👍👍👍
Playing Darktide + listening to Luetin = perfect combo.

Dorito dreadnoughts are the most flavorful of all. Even Slaanesh fears their tasty crunch.
YESSSS, my favorite type of war engines,
can't wait for the dantes dreadnought model in 17th edition released in 2060.
😂 I'll be 70 if I make it
That would just be yet another kick to the pants. Papa Sanguinius calls Dante home, and then some Mechanicus nerd goes, nope!
I love how you come back to previously touched subjects and manage to give us an even deeper, more detailed essay! Please keep the older versions!
I couldn't imagine walking past one these as a space marine, "Yeah thats little Joe, he was implanted in this dreadnought 4000 years ago 😅"
That's "Venerable Brother Little Joe" to you, bub.

The short audiobook "The Glorious Tomb" by Guy Haley offers an interesting look at what's its like to be a Dreadnought. Its worth a listen.
As a Thousand Sons player, I still don't understand why we don't have psychic dreadnoughts.
You do. They're called Rubric Marines.
Well with 10th edition's removal of the psychic phase and turning them all into powers or just weapons with the psychic tag, it mostly doesn't matter anymore.

WHAT!?!?!
Be easy to put them in, just hoover them up 😂
When i first got introduced to warhammer playing dawn of war and heard the line even in death i still serve i had not idea the horror of what they had gone through to get that way i thought they were just a robot with an ai
Thanks a lot for your neverending academical effort
This video was a straight up godsend. Instaclick. Thanks Luetin!

Only a few Cool Ranch dreadnoughts were ever constructed, but each one is a walking fortress.
22:20 Man, thats a great story moment. "What do you mean Im not dead? Dammit, I thought I was finally going to die..."
I love the irony of this being released on memorial day
Im gonna be that guy... That's not ironic
I thought i was the only one who made that connection
I'm so glad to get another video!! Thank you for your consistent quality
I really needed this today, Luetin is truly sent by the emperor to lift the masses from their hardship with his glorious words
I have been watching Major Kill too much this is the best Warhammer lore video. No spoilers no 10 minutes bull shit this is the real FEEL of 40k
Couldn't agree more. Don't have to listen to and watch that annoying, PeAcE at the end.
My rudimentary implant of a cogitator whirs happily at the site of a Lore Master's announcement.
The Futurama still with the gritty filter is hilarious because it looks totally on brand 😂
I'VE BEEN SCROLLING LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO MENTION IT LMAO
Where?
2:15 video starts
Was just thinking “is this a tacticus video?”

I’ve been using your videos as background noise for my mini painting, appreciate all the work and depth you put into each video 👍
"Only in death does duty end!"
"Even in death I serve!"
16:12 - Carab Culln the risen! The tabletop model itself is an artifact-level unit, but to actually survive both Badab and Vraks alone is reason enough to earn the honor of eternal service as a Leviathan Dreadnought. He would look great also reimagined as Brutalis, I think.
Did anyone else hear Dorito?
All I heard 😂

Thank you for the detailed info. I am loving the depth of 40k lore.
Imagine spending thousands of years fighting one bloody battle after another, and then when you're finally defeated, you're not even allowed to die.
This is definitely one your best vids Luetin, had a blast listening!
ONLY IN DEATH DOES DUTY END!
Dreadnought: Hold my amasec
Once again a brilliant dive into a subject we all thought we knew about until the lore master presents us with his knowledge . Thanks Lt another amazingly fantastic piece.
I am a man of simple directives. I see a Luetin video, I click it.
It's a good life...
Luetin09 is really on a role this month. I can’t keep up with the amount of content he has pumped out this month alone. Thanks you sir!!
30:35 DORITO DREANOUGHT
The Leviathan is pretty terrifying to meet, but then you also remember that during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, it was also armed with phosphex launchers.
After a long 12hr shift, time to bed and luetin delivers. Praise the emperor
That Furibundus looks quite goofy, but I love Leviathans and Redemptors. Praise be to the Loremaster!
Thanks Luetin!
Yeah I’m knackered, good timing for an hour of Luetin lore.
The Emperor Protects the faithful. Leutin Sleep Squad!
Won't get to watch this till later. But had to pop in and say thank you. Dreadnoughts are the single reason i started vacuuming up as much 40K lore as possible.
Even in death....i..still..serve...
I have been a fan of 40k for decades but I must admit that the whole idea of Dreadnoughts creep me out.
Forgive me father, for I have to embark in an hour long Dreadnought lore info dumb. In the name of the EMPERAHHH! 🗡

An actual masterclass in dreadnoughts. Amazing job leutiin
The idea that the Redemptor can RUN is terrifying.
I just painted 2 hellbrutes when this came out hell yeah.
The most ironic grim dark joke ever…. Dante gets mortally wounded and ends up in a Dreadnought
Ehh it would make more sense cause it already been said As long as Sanguinius needs him and dante has a single drop of blood left he must serve. Do a better joke.
Another glorious video. Thank you for the hour and 13 minutes of glorious lore Luetin09. I love your lore videos so much.
hell yeah brother
A dreadnought is the ceramite clad Allegory of the statement: "We are done when we say we are done"
I love turn based games using hexes and yet I wouldn't touch Tacticus with a 6 foot pole, it looks like a typical mobile vomit and knowing GW the microtransactions are extremely oppressive.
Based. Reject mindless consumerism.
it’s honestly p bad in terms of upgrading characters but since i work 12 hour shifts it’s a time killer in between tasks. it’s entertaining as long as you dont take it too seriously
I've never subscribed to a channel so fast in my life.
Hell.

I'm watching this assembling a Deredeo dreadnought, best decision of my life
I'm doing my part to please Algo
this is very important, we must not incur the wrath of algo.
I don't know if you have Luetin but if you haven't would love to see a lore video on Bjorn the dude is straight legend.
Exactly how I want to be treated if I get fully disabled.
This comment is a sacrifice to the spirit of the algorithm
Not going to lie. It would be cool to see a tabletop battle between luetin, baldy, ab prince, and vox.
I feel like it would be such an epic fight. Maybe even take donations for charity or something once a year. Battle of the 4 YT lore gods.
