This video is really important to understanding the heresy. The Emporer didn't really explain the warp/chaos to his sons/the primarchs. Then he left horus in charge of "the great crusade" to retake the galaxy for humanity. The Emporer went back to earth/Terra to sort out the web way project, which would have closed off chaos from the galaxy and made interstellar travel outside the warp possible. Before he could finish the project horus and the lunar wolves started to come in contact with chaos on crusade. Horus was injured by chaos and his advisor (erebus among others) put him in a cultists temple to be healed. Horus saw the chaos gods and turned to chaos during this experience but was ultimately healed. He returned to his fleet and secretly started scheming against the Emporer. Eventually leading to the betrayal on istvaarn (not sure of spelling) where half of the primarchs turned on the Emporer in favor of chaos. Later the ones who turned to chaos would go on to attach terra and try to kill the Emporer. They ultimately failed, horus was killed by Emporer but Emporer was injured to near death and put onto the golden throne. That setting still has the Emporer decaying but alive on the golden throne. The throne projects a shit load of psychic power from the Emporer allowing his followers to travel in the warp somewhat safely and grants other capabilities. If I remember correctly he's been on the throne looking like a corpse with tubes and plugs keeping him alive for 10,000 years now. A few loyal primarchs as well as chaos primarchs have started to return after all going their separate ways after the horus heresy. There are soo many books that are total side quests, you really have to read or listen to the "important"/plot line books to understand what's going. Some of my favorite warhammer books are the Soul Hunter series about one of the Night Lords profits. But you wouldn't really know what is going on in the larger story if you only read that series, you would probably more confused than anything in regards to plot. The Raptor cult of the Bleeding Eyes!

It all started when none of the Primarchs thought to phone up the Emperor and ask WHY he lied to them. I mean, if the emperor can use the psychic hotline to call Lorgar a b*tch then why can't Horus call up the Emperor?
It actually all started when the other 17 Primarchs acted like pussies and decided to persuade the Emperor to only destroy Monarchia and the places of the unholy Emperor Cult and not to completely annihilate Lorgar and the World's Bearers after they were found culprit of what was actually heresy as they worshipped the Emperor as a God... since here Lorgar started to worship Chaos' gods and planned to corrupt Horus... excessive mercy always proves to be fatal

I do wonder about the double-Emperor. He even had his own Malcador. THEN THEY STOLE HIS GOLDEN THRONE AND DECORATIONS FOR TERRA. This story never gets properly explained.
The entire thing was most likely a well organized and long running scheme of the Ruinous Powers to convince Horus to forsake Mankind. Think about it. It is too perfect. A hidden Emperor on a Golden Throne protected by an old man (the Inquisition of Malcador)? Obvious Chaos fuckery imo.
@@NemFX is there anything to the fact that it's kind of mirrored of the way it ends? Horus teleporting in and slaying the emperor vs emperor teleporting in and slaying horus?
@@sweypheonix In a way though, the final fight between Horus and the Emperor is closer to what happened on the moon of Davin, albeit with the Emperor taking Horus's place and Horus taking the place of Eugen Temba. Horus (The Emperor) boards a chaos infested ship, finding one of the closest friends, Temba (Horus), turned to the ruinous powers. They fight and Horus (the Emperor) comes out on top, with the loser recognizing what they've become and begging for forgiveness, and the victor being mortally wounded beyond healing. In desperation, the victors are each forced to turn to the warp for their salvation, Horus becoming the herald of the ruinous powers and the emperor being forced to rely on humanity's worship while on the Golden Throne, eventually being fated to become the Dark King. Not to get too 5th grade English class about this, but there's a symbolic cycle present here that probably serves to illustrate the themes of corruption and betrayal within the setting and eventually becoming what you swore to destroy. "He who fights with monsters should be careful that he himself does not become a monster" and all that.
Holy shit! I've just come across this channel. The level of dedication and production quality invested here is immeasurable. You sir, just got one more subscriber enlisted in your ranks. For the emperor.
14:05 As someone who just got into warhammer lore, and reading horus rising while also watching the video as I read, this part confuses me. In the book, loken doesn't take back Jubals body to the ship, but Sindermann comes down to the wisperhead mountains to discuss the matter when Jubals corpse becomes a deamon and kills two remembrances who where documenting the aftermath of the battle. Am I reading a wrong version of the book(I pirated it), or the story changed since then?
Unfortunately the video is wrong in this part. Sinderman and the other remembrancers go to the whisperheads and that is where Jubal comes back to life. The body is not taken back to the ship.
As someone who is familiar with the 40k universe but not in depth of everything.. I'm grateful for my friends knowing but I'm more thankful for your vids man. They help a ton.
Will you do a "what happens next" for this? I'm so gripped! Absolutely loved getting such a deep dive on lore I've heard of but never really got around to learning about!
Just a minor detail, Jubyals body wasnt removed to the flagship after his possession, the remembrancers were in the field that day under the care of Sindermann and the military. They had their brush with the daemons on the planet.
This video is amazing! So much detail and depicting the logistics of what transpired throughout the different parts of the star system, with sublime narration. What a masterpiece!
Just adding my praise here for the record. I like listening to 40K lore, and some channels do a great job, but visualizing it the way you do, is so much better. Just finished watching up to episode 16 of the Siege of Vraks too. GREAT STUFF.
Awesome. One of the very few times I have actually watched a lore video, rather than just listen. Narration is spot on but the scale is really off, visual wise. It looks as though the they're invading a small town in the English countryside, in the opening 10 minutes. Great work, you're obviously preaching to a VERY big choir with this stuff but you really do have the ability to make it feel new and intriguing again
It is believed by some people that the Daemonic entity known as "Samus" was reference to Metroid's Samus Aran (as she is technically partially Xeno via genetic engineering in lore). Likewise the Horus Heresy is referenced in Metroid (Specifically Metroid Prime 3: Corruption) as the Horus Rebellion, Horus a planet Rebelled against the Galactic Federation (With help from the Galactic Crime syndicate: The Space Pirates), the Rebellion saw the 2 Olympus class planetary assault carriers GFS Olympus and Valhalla Sent to deal with it, things would go south incredibly quickly as Valhalla was board by Pirates and Rebels alike and would see all but the most veteran crew and marines killed just to repel boarders (with assistance of the ships AU). this is from a unused Lore piece in the game files though the Horus Rebellion is still quoted in game by conversation by 2 male fleet personal. Fleet 1: "I Haven't seen this many fighter scrambled since the Horus Rebellion." Fleet 2: "now that was some nasty business."
Are you planning on doing the lore from the end of this video, and on to the conclusion to the Siege of Terra, and the final duel? I really love your videos! They are like WW2 documentaries, equally fascinating and awe inspiring!

My God the lore of Warhammer 40k is certainly deep and complex. I wish I had started painting these guys back in the 90s instead of the D&D minis. Ima enjoy exploring all of this lore. I don't expect to finish all the reading any time soon though. There is a lot apparently, lol. I'm excited, to me this is all new and cool. Thanks for the vids.
I discovered 40k about five years ago and fell down the rabbit-hole. I wandered blindly into the Horus Heresy, without any prior knowledge of the lore, discovering that the rabbit-hole does indeed go deep. I wish i could re-discover the franchise anew.
1:10:40 one rare moment where "Trust me, Bro." really worked out.
"I was there...The day Horus slew the Emperor!"
Forever these words send a shiver down our spinses.

We have spines. Not spinses.
Thanks
Thank you!
this is HIGH quality keep up the good work janovich
holy fuck, 2 hours of lore from Janovich? Sign me up!
So sad that you won’t be continuing this series. Surely it has a wider reach than vraks.
not this year at least. perhaps in the future but like i said i need to inform myself better first
@@Janovichoh man pllllleeeeeaaassseeee do the Siege of Terra at least. Your style and those characters and story would be amazing!!!!
@@Janovich I do hope it’s going well. This video was awesome and I just recently got into warhammer. I’d love to hear the rest of the story from your channel. Videos are well done and the animations help with understanding what characters are where and even how the battles proceed. Great stuff
@@Janovichi hope you do continue this!! I love your visual style, would love some videos of what Horus did post-dropsite masacre
remember all of this started cause horus got stabbed with a poop knife
A poop knife carried by his dead, reanimated demonically possessed best friend.
The horus heresy is just a lesson of what happens for those who get some form of a septic disease
Not quite. He always harboured some doubt about his father.
The narration voice: articulation, intonation, pitch and tone makes listening easy. Quality work 👍🏻
This guy has animations background music and sound fx??? Since when do Warhammer lore bots go this hard??? I subscribed so hard!!!
EDIT
This was a compliment I forget how sensitive people are on the internet. I call everything a bot when the end product is systemically similar to others. Porn Stars Porn Bots, Cooks Food Bots... My apologies for typing the way I speak and forgetting to be so politcally correct no one has the ability to turn what you say into the bases for an argument.
Let me retype that so I don't offend anyone.
You're doing a great job and I subscribed to you. Keep up the good work. I'm proud of you. Wonderful content. Music is a nice touch. Sound FX go hard, hard as in good, by good I mean its pleasing not just satisfactory. There aren't many CREATORS that put this much effort in... by effort I'm not saying you need more effort to be as good your effort is appreciated, it puts you in a league above most.
lore bots, lmao :'0

And now, Penguinz0 may or may not have watched this, and said it was the best part of his experience watching Joker 2.
This is the highest quality HH recap ever made. I would LOVE to see a similar video covering the siege of terra is as much depth
This is my first lore video of this universe i gotta tell ya this format is so good plus your voice is perfect for this long videos keep it up
Utterly and addictively immersivem and so a joy to listen to, thank you so much for taking the time to put this together and sharing it with everyone :-)
These are phenomenal. Produced with excellency. Hopefully a part 2 and three come out, from the Battle at Signus prime all the way to the confrontation at Terra herself, great job!
And then on to the Black Crusades
I hope you keep going with this and do the rest of the story, it was an enthralling watch, well narrated and symbolized. Great work.
Awesome can't wait for the remaining videos. You're one of the best Warhammer 40k themed videos on RUclips!
Bro, your videos describing the battles are FANTASTIC.
Would love to see you describe a battle from the first Tyranic war. The one where Ultramarine first company was wiped to the man, hundreds of dreadnought held Macragg. I always thought that battle would make for amazing cinema.
Keep up the great work!
This whole summary is beyond perfect, i need the complete horus heresy in this format. Btw, Thank you! Kudos to you.
I have heard this story before by different narrators and you did a great job making it your own and different so it’s still entertaining.
this was really informative , thank you ! Now i need the next part of the Heresy !
Thank you for this Lore explanation compiled in this video Janovich!
wtf "compilated" isn't a word
it's "compiled"
@@nathanexplosionn thanks, already fixed it.
Easily one of the best produced 40k videos I've ever seen. Narration and visualisations are impeccable. Well done.
Can you do Cadia? The War and the chase out to the jump point following Phallanx and Arc-Machanicus etc.
You could show the arrival of the back up forces like Space wolves and Caul from Arriad system.
Show Lacanthos fights and different areas Kreed stands etc.
I can just imagine this all visualized. Would be awesome!
The map as a method to tell the story was brilliant. Didn’t like it at first but when you realize how easy it was to understand the scope of the fights I fell in love with this method
A story weve all heard many times in many iterations but this one is spellbinding! Great job! Heart-breaking and enraging!
Thanks!
thanks!!
Absolutely LOVE the visuals in your videos! Please do one on the rest of the horus heresy!
Like Erebus said after stabbing Loken to Abaddon "the circle has been completed. Loken met a possessed person with Samus. And Samus was reborn in Lokens body. Damn I hate Erebus.
Erebus is just the worst isn’t he?
Samus was not reborn in Loken's body.
@@s4bc then what was it then? Erebus killed Loken to complete the circle. And Samus was reborn? It's in the end of vol 3.
If just the damn blade didnt hit the arm but rather his chest..all would’ve been well. They were close to uniting the Galaxy after all. They would’ve only needed to kill the Space Kinksters, Bug Evolution 9001 and EMP Eaters to win. Noooo we ensure fuckaround (awesome new lore but mostly Ultragays) and make half of em traitors that hate themselves in depression.
@@lawrencebray9623 samus was born in the warp when loken died not inside loken, he did not possess loken's dead body, the act of the murder created samus.
Highly underrated channel.
I have been trying to get into warhammer and startong with Horus heresy story and just couldn't get into it. That was until I found this video. Perfect reading and background noise. Really sets the tone for how I see the franchise.
Got a new sub. Thanks bro.
Amazing video! Hope to see more in this format and style. Can’t wait for the next part
I'm new to 40k and appreciste there is such quality in video and narration, the quality of your video rivals the quality of channels of ultra high quality like Down the rabbit hole
@@sweypheonix"so will I deal with all tyrants and decievers"
@@sweypheonixbro holy fuck that’s actually insane.
This is one of the best lore videos i have ever seen! I hope you will make more like this in the future!
Please for the Love of the Emperor, do a full series on the Horus Heresy. This is absolutely astonishing work!
Just got into Warhammer and your channel is great. I hope you make a video on the Siege of Terra
Dude this video is MASTERFULLY done!!! Keep doing these!! 👏
I really like the tiny detail at 26:26 with the eye of terror there
This video is extremely well put together! Beautifully done!
Just a minor detail, Jubyals body wasnt removed to the flagship after his possession, the remembrancers were in the field that day under the care of Sindermann and the military. They had their brush with the daemons on the planet.
loved the heresy vids! hope there will be more in the future for those with no patience for the books like myself!

@@captaincole4511 FOR THE EMPEROR OF DEMOCRACY!!!
Just adding my praise here for the record. I like listening to 40K lore, and some channels do a great job, but visualizing it the way you do, is so much better.
Just finished watching up to episode 16 of the Siege of Vraks too. GREAT STUFF.
Awesome! Can't wait for the next part!
Fleet 1: "I Haven't seen this many fighter scrambled since the Horus Rebellion." Fleet 2: "now that was some nasty business."
ruclips.net/user/shortsazXWxmVlHlc?si=v8A7QBflDoldodPV A linked short to the actual quote.
Are you planning on doing the lore from the end of this video, and on to the conclusion to the Siege of Terra, and the final duel? I really love your videos! They are like WW2 documentaries, equally fascinating and awe inspiring!
Normally I don’t get 10 minutes into lore videos, I get bored or lose my interest. This is by far the best lore breakdown video I’ve ever seen, the graphics help you paint a better image in my head I can imagine small scale scene and stuff but when it comes to a galactic scale my brain has a hard time picturing a galaxy map and such so this makes the lore so much more digestible and understandable as well, I’m 1:45:16 in and I wish there was more to this video I could watch this for hours. Amazing job man
Thank you!
@@Janovich do you plan on making a part 2?
40k newbie and just starting out learning about the lore- this video is amazing!! Is there a part 2?
Most perfect video I've ever watched! Need a part 2!
Do a part 2 on this one
This entire video is just. Extremely impressively well made. Holy shit dude, I'm kinda blown away.
Chaos or no chaos, there would have been an heresy. There is no way the Space Marines would have let themselves have the fate of the Thunder Warriors, once the Imperium of Man triumphed and conquered all galaxy.
I’ve always wanted to make videos like these, but wanted to tell stories and battles fought in video games by players, but I just never know where I should start. Love watching your content.

Thank you for the story and visuals. Well done. Almost felt like I was a witness to the battle.

Amazing video! Loved listening to every second of it, but now i feel ive been left on a cliff hanger lol. Im very new to war hammer lore so idk what happens next
is there a continuation vid ? the narration style of this channel has me hooked and left me on a cliff hanger. I await the next installment in this series.
This was superb
This is hands down the best lore about Horus heresy specially as a good solid intro , I’ve read the first books long time ago this was a solid recap, I appreciate and may I recommend you do more about Horus heresy ? Like what happened later with Magnus and what happened with word bearers and ultramarines?
I think 14:07 conversation with sindermann and unded Jubal killing 2 remembrances was happening in whisperheads stronghold and not in flagship
Nine minutes in and I already know I can kiss the next two hours goodbye. What a fantastic narrator!
the quality of narration, audio, editing and production of this video is amazing. as someone new to 40k, thank you so much for this! 🩷
