I like to think that in order to get the machine spirits of the imperium's trains moving the Adeptus Mechanicus has to play the Thomas the tank engine theme song. Its not actually required for them to operate, it just makes them go faster.
im now picturing a conductors cab stuffed full of the mechanicus all humming, chanting, and praying around the coal box while servitors are absolutely just BLASTING the theme song.
Imagine thousands of Krieg soldiers forced to listen to Thomas the tank engine theme song on repeat for several hours as they get transported to the front lines. That must be true hell.
If the Kriegsmen were not already near suicidal in their fanaticism, they were certainly suicidal after spending days on end listening to the Thomas the Tank Engine theme on the way to the front lines. What a genius way to ensure the Death corp performs as expected.
43:30 From what I've studied of military history, and what a couple high school buddies who went in the service said, this is EXACTLY how you deal with a minefield under open field assault. If there is no cover, then you have to charge ahead. Ideally, on a wide front: If spaced out, it makes it harder for the enemy to sweep down groups, and while each individual soldier has a larger chance of hitting one, the company as a whole will not suffer entire squads dying to one mine blast. Not to mention, once one company has charged over... others can follow. A minefield is meant to slow and demoralize an army, removing mobility. Mobility is the only thing that keeps a soldier alive against machine guns and artillery.
Modern US doctrine has an Abrams equipped with a plow directly follow the deployment of MCLCs (mine clearing line charges) deployed from an armored vehicle via rocket. These will explode surface mines in a path several meters wide and I believe a hundred meters long. The plow Abrams then sweeps the ground ahead of it with the plow to detonate more deeply buried anti-vehicle mines. Engineers mark the assault lane and follow on Abrams put pressure on enemy defenses as a MCLC is used to clear the next hundred meters. In order for the assault to succeed, close air support is required to neutralize enemy artillery, while artillery keeps the infantry's heads down and prevents them from effectively deploying ATGMs against the tanks. Once an assault lane has been cleared, the infantry follows quickly behind the armored forces and deploys from their vehicles only when in direct sight of enemy trenches. At no point does the infantry assault on foot across a mine field. If the US Army can't effect this plan for whatever reason (airspace is too heavily contested, for example), then it simply does not conduct an assault. Modern static defenses are entirely too deadly and will guarantee failure.
33:45 And over the vox you hear an ancient song from a distant past: Strike at Zero Hour With overwhelming firepower They're fueled by the fear in their enemies' eyes It's a Shock Troop infiltration A fast and violent escalation Out of the trenches the stormtroopers rise
