  • A lore documentary on the Ogryn of the Imperial Guard from Warhammer 40K! You can customize and fight as your own Ogryn in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - store.steampow...
    In the 40th Millennium, the Imperium of Man is assailed by many xenos, warp, and traitor foes. Against these threats they are given hope by the Space Marines. However these are not the only hulking warriors on the front line of Mankind's wars. Today we explore the Ogryn of the Astra Militaria.
    We begin with a origins of the Ogryn. This occurred during the Dark Age of Technology when humans arrived on harsh, high gravity planets across the galaxy. In the ensuing collapse of this first Galactic Empire, many of these people would be abandoned and spend the following millennia slowly evolving to meet their environments. Be the time of the Great Crusade many had strayed so far from the main human gene pool that they were classified as a new sub-species of Ab Human. Yet rather than purge these forces, the Imperium of Man saw fit to adopt them as a fighting force in their Imperial Guard. These Ogryn would go on to fight in many of the most important battles and campaigns of the era including the conflicts of the Horus Heresy.
    In this Warhammer 40K lore video we cover the equipment, training, tactics and service history of the Ogryn.

      They are categorically different. Although similar in terms of size, I would suspect astartes would be stronger, especially if they are in power armor. Space Marines also boast high flexibility while ogryn are relegated to close combat. Space Marines have Battle line, assault, scout, devastator, and terminator units, just to name a few. Astartes also employ a wide range of vehicles. Space Marines are also much more intelligent. Techmarines, apothecaries, chaplains, librarians, and pilots are present in most chapters.

    • @essexclass8168
      @essexclass8168 Год назад +9

      @@knightofcaliban146 honestly, considering several events especially around the beginning and climax of the Horus Heresy, Astartes are way more prone to dumb, tactically pointless or even operationally and strategically ruinous charges than Ogryns or kriegers are.

    • @knightofcaliban146
      @knightofcaliban146 Год назад

      @@essexclass8168 The aggressive, casualty intensive tactics of the Astartes in the Great Crusade and Heresy are explained by the fact that there were a lot more of them, and their roles changed dramatically. 30k Legions acted very differently than 40k Chapters. The Legions were used primarily as a blunt force instrument in the expansion of a fledgling Imperium, whereas the 40k chapters are highly mobile, versatile strike forces that respond to threats to an ever crumbling Imperium. Some Legions, like Night Lords, Raven Guard, and Alpha Legion have a more sneaky, underhanded approach to warfare that minimizes their own casualties.
      Looking at something like Istvaan 3, the only reason why it was a battle instead of a massacre is because Saul Tarvitz managed to warn the loyalists, and Angron was dumb enough to deploy to the surface because he wanted to have fun. If you compare Angron's deployment on Istvaan to the siege of Vraks, the Kriegers just threw bodies at the problem because they had plenty to spare, and they were ordered to by an incompetent general. Horus decided to deploy his traitors to root out the loyalists to improve morale, and give the traitors their first big W. Ogryn, lovable as they are, are best used as shock troops. Sometimes they forget to fire their ripper guns, and ripper guns have means of limiting their rate of fire so that they don't run out of ammo too fast. Unlike Astartes they don't have the capacity to execute complex maneuvers, use long range weaponry effectively, or operate vehicles.

    Report by one Sgt Rickmire of the 341st Logistical Army. Other designation “Rat King.”
    “It was during the fourth or fifth attack on Fortress Kragmonder when the Xenos broke through the front lines. My company was in charge of delivering a QRF group to the breach. We were driving massive trucks, big enough to fit Astarte’s I’m sure. Anyways, we got to the drop off point and then began unloading the QRF.
    It was Ogryns. 103 Ogryns got out of our trucks and lined up with the help of their bone head. These Ogryns had on armor that looked like it could take a Leman Russ shell and be no worse for wear!
    It takes about 5 minutes to get them sorted and by that point we hear the Xenos coming up the hill we are on.
    If I’m being honest I never once saw the Xenos we were fighting. I just know that they were some group that was hidden in caves until some poor sod dug to deep of a well and found them.
    Sorry, lost myself there, anyways the Ogryns now lined up, have a giant riot shield on one arm and a massive Billy Club in the other, they walk up to the top of the hill, then I hear a roar from the group as they began sprinting down the hill.
    I will not describe the sounds I heard on the opposite side of that hill. I do not actually believe that I even can describe such noises. But I can say what happened next, the Xenos were pushed back through the breach.
    The Bone Head was apparently killed so the Ogryn company just kept charging and running at the Xenos. After the war was over, and the Guard had cleaned the last cave of the Xenos, a group of 3 Ogryns was found, armor in taters and having only half a shield getting ready to attack the last position in the caves. They died before the Guard could get to them, but they made a big hole for them to charge through and end it.
    Those Ogryns had the same markings as those I helped deliver.
    The Space Marines Save the day, the Guard holds the line, and Ogryns push that line back however way they can.”
    Repot ended.

    Awesome video man! I love your stuff!
    I thought I would add some cool new info about Ogryn's from the recent ghazghkull thraka book.
    Its now "canon" that Ogryn's can be psykers and can also teach themselves to read and write. This is seen with the character Cassie who is a Ogryn psyker that is trained by a space wolf rune priest.
    Cassie is the only confirmed example of a Ogryn psyker but this may be because it goes against the imperial truth so they may be more common but are simply executed when found out.

    Interesting video, enjoyable to watch - i knew Ogryns were from high gravity worlds but wasnt aware such worlds were often prison planets.
    Seeing a video on Scions/Stormtroopers would be pretty neat too, with an honourable mention of the Kasrkin and other regimental specific scion-esque soldiers.
