This is awesome! The khaki pilot in interstellar truly set me off on my watch journey, I thought about it for a solid few years after seeing the movie and finally bought one before I went off on my own flight training adventure. It’s been with me for every check event and test in aviation and for so many other amazing memories.
You've missed the most interesting watch in Life Aquatic - Murray's Vostok Amfibia. Especially if you consider the fact that 3075 Rolex GMT Master is kinda meh...
Great series! I'd like to point out that The Life Aquatic features a Vostok Amphibia far more prominently than the Rolex and is, in my opinion, a far more interesting and unique watch due in no small part to its engineering and design philosophy. It's also leagues more fun! :D
The annoying thing about Speed is that the gshock is in Alarm mode which doesn't show the time like in the movie. That scene shows that the alarm is set to 8:07am and it's not the time.
Daniel Craig is actually a Rolex collector. Since he finished his Bond contract he can now enjoy wearing his collection in public. Apart from being stereotyped as a one character actor when he signed up to be 007, having to be constantly anchored to Omega was the other decision to end his Bond career. It is also well known that many astronauts although having been issued and obligated to wear Speedmasters for space missions, they chose to wear the Rolex GMT in their personal lives and as pilots during their military careers.
I love how they used the Alarm mode for the Speed shot - the "Speed" G-Shock square is the DW-5600C-1V, which is an all metal case G-Shock and not an ordinary DW-5600E. Another cool fact, apparently the watch was not a supplied prop but was owned by Keanu Reeves.
No comments saying the in Speed Keanu"s watch wasn't showing the actual time only that his alarm was set for 08:05. The AL in top left shows its in alarm setting mode.
A big Miss not mentioning the Vostok Amphibia from Life Aquatic. Main character's watch and an icon in the budget world already! I'm kinda getting tired of how much hype is given to Rolex. It's not interesting anymore. I know Rolex is a much better watch, but the point of the story here is different. It's the role these watches play in each movie. Still enjoyed the video! Hope more stuff like this comes out! 👍
Watching Movies has always been my favorite column, but having it as a video feature with compilations of scenes where the watches were shown is sooo much better
Nice. But I don't get, why You focus on the Rolex GMT in "The Life Aquatic" instead of the main character's (and Klaus's) Vostok Amphibia, which has way more screen-time. Vostok even named this model after Steve Zissou and sell it with Bill Murray's portrait in character etched into the back.
Amazing video! I do think you guys missed an opportunity on Life Aquatic however, the Steve Zissou Vostok Amphibia I would say is way more critical to describe character than the Rolly; that is a beautiful piece for sure but having Steve wear what could be seen as a "cheap russian knockoff" of a dive watch speaks volumes about his character and the state of his life in that film. Nothing against the Vosktok however, I own one and it's iconic in its own right :)
Good vid! But I think it should have included the Seiko Tortiose of Martin Sheen, playing Captain Willard, in "Apocalypse Now," which has since been called the "Willard."
I can’t believe you didn‘t include the JLC Reverso, that Bruce Wayne was wearing in The Dark Knight. The Reverso has two faces, just as Bruce Wayne, as he is Batman.
In 1971 Astronaut David Scott's Omega Speedster watch failed. He had to use his personal Bulova watch to finish his mission. Now it's called the Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Cmon, in the Steve Zissou movie you missed the opportunity to spot something unusual and definitely less boring than a Rolex, the Vostok worn by Bill Murray!
Great review Sir. I too watch ( pun not intended ) to see what watches characters are wearing. Another classic is The American with George Clooney. However, I'm glad you mentioned Glengarry GlenRoss. I love Ricky Roma's Two tone Datejust. Kind regards from Australia Rikki
Great episode. I personally like the latest James Bond Omega Seamaster for three reasons: 1. It's in an iconic Movie 2. It's attainable 3. It's available. Did you hear that Rolex? HINT: #3
Very cool video. If you decide to do any more might I suggest a watch that I own and love, the Hamilton Ventura, different versions of which are worn in the Men In Black series. A watch I don’t own but wish I did, that plays a specific role in a movie is the Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph that Jessie gives to Walt as a birthday present.
What, what, what? The Life Aquatic watch was a GMT Master II? My gosh no, that trophy goes to the Vostok, the Rolex played a bit part compared to the various starring roles on Bill Murray and Willem Defoe's wrists.
I think the Rolex DD played a bigger role in GGGR than Goodfellas so between the two movies featured, I would have highlighted that movie and iconic scene over anything in Goodfellas that barely showed the watch.
4:20 NASA astronaut James Lovell always wore his wrist watches on his righthand wrist. In civil clothes, mostly a Rolex GMT-master 1675. Moreover, during Apollo 13 CMP Jack Swigert wore his personal Rolex GMT-master 1675 pilot watch... not so in the Hollywood movie world 🤣 6:26 Product placement by Omega watches as British author Ian Fleming only wrote about a Rolex watch in the 1953 - 1964 James Bond novels, based on his own Explorer 1016. In 2015 at the Dalmatian coast I witnessed some filming for the Jacques Cousteau movie "The Odyssey" (L'Odyssée), again only modern Omega watches were used.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. How could you have left out the Vostok Amphibia Zissou (420526)? I know it’s nowhere near as iconic as the Rolex, but come on… Vostoks deserve some love every now and then. Even though it’s a redesign of an already existing model, (the changes were purely cosmetic) they even named it after Murray’s character. EDIT: I saw a lot of folks commenting on the Vostok after my post. I’m glad I’m not the only one who appreciates Russian timepieces.
Now this as a series, I like.
God I couldn’t love this any more.
Bravo, Danny.
Movies and watches? I’m in. Keep up this series Danny!
This is awesome! Bill Murray's watch is a Vostok in Life Aquatic, why no love?
Just commented on that. They ignored the genuinely 'acquatic' watch in that show.
PREACH, COMRADE, PREACH!
Because it's bloody Hodinkee. He even said "a proper dive watch "! 💀 Cheers 🍻!
Politics, probably
Did you forget Bill Murray's Vostok Amphibia in The Life Aquatic? For that matter, lots of Casios are put together in China...😇
Exactly. He actually didnt talk about the most famous watch from that movie. The Vostok warn by Bill Murray. Pure watch snobery.
You've missed the most interesting watch in Life Aquatic - Murray's Vostok Amfibia. Especially if you consider the fact that 3075 Rolex GMT Master is kinda meh...

You didn’t mention the Vostok worn by Steve Zissou.
his explanation on watches from the Interstellar movie is so good. Bravo!
The annoying thing about Speed is that the gshock is in Alarm mode which doesn't show the time like in the movie. That scene shows that the alarm is set to 8:07am and it's not the time.
Probably for reshooting purposes so that they don't have to set the time for each take.
What a great series, would love to see more!
Can you PLEASE make this a series!?
Hodinkee should change its name to “Dudes who love Rolex.”
Daniel Craig is actually a Rolex collector. Since he finished his Bond contract he can now enjoy wearing his collection in public. Apart from being stereotyped as a one character actor when he signed up to be 007, having to be constantly anchored to Omega was the other decision to end his Bond career.

🤣🤣
@borregoayudando1481 except no one is crapping their pants and paying 6x retail for one just because it says Casio on it.
@@zacharyparis pretentious much?
@@aquariuscomfort I don’t think you know what pretentious means.

Continuity team went, "we're not resetting that time for every take in the movie". XD
@@jaskey that’s exactly what happened 😅
I was hoping you’d cover more of the watches from The Life Aquatic. There’s a number of really cool watches featured in it.
Agreed!
I’ve never seen the movie but isn’t there a Vostok in that?
I could imagine you could do a whole episode on Wes Anderson movies and the watches the characters wear.
Hodinkee is so obsessed with Rolex that it didn't feature Bill Murray's Vostok
I saw this after my comment. I’m glad to see another person who appreciates Vostok here.
Regarding Life Aquatic, you missed out on the Vostok Amphibia that the crew wore. They even released a Zissou special edition of that exact watch.
I own one. I have the blue face (420374) in contrast to his black one (420526) and I went through hell to locate one.
The proper watch from the life aquatic is Steve's vostock. Can't believe you went for the rolex
Fantastic! Please more of those!! Danny kills it.
What the heck, Zissou mentioned but not the Vostok Scuba Dude?
No comments saying the in Speed Keanu"s watch wasn't showing the actual time only that his alarm was set for 08:05. The AL in top left shows its in alarm setting mode.

Great episode , love it so much
Watching Movies has always been my favorite column, but having it as a video feature with compilations of scenes where the watches were shown is sooo much better
plus the humour! Come on! We need this to be a regular with focus on each film and watches featured!

The Vostok is surely more appropriate that the GMT in The Life Aquatic?
Features The Life Aquatic but doesn't mention Vostok? mmm 🤔
I can’t believe you didn‘t include the JLC Reverso, that Bruce Wayne was wearing in The Dark Knight. The Reverso has two faces, just as Bruce Wayne, as he is Batman.
Chris Nolan deserves his own series of watches in movies
harvey dent should have worn it
Great video! Alltough I like the Rolex GMT the Vostok Amphibia would have been more interesting.
I loved this especially when TGV of the Urban Gentry did it years ago!
Except tgv is insufferable and I'd rather buy a hublot than watch his videos.
In 1971 Astronaut David Scott's Omega Speedster watch failed. He had to use his personal Bulova watch to finish his mission. Now it's called the Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Steve Zissou is famous for fancy Vostok Amphibian, but not boring Rolex, haha 😆 😜 😄
Cmon, in the Steve Zissou movie you missed the opportunity to spot something unusual and definitely less boring than a Rolex, the Vostok worn by Bill Murray!
Went on about the GMT Master in Life Aquatic but didn't even mention the Vostoks.
We can’t forget the Casio F-91W worn by Dr. Michael Alexander Morbius, M.D., Ph.D in the critically acclaimed movie, Morbius
Great review Sir. I too watch ( pun not intended ) to see what watches characters are wearing. Another classic is The American with George Clooney. However, I'm glad you mentioned Glengarry GlenRoss. I love Ricky Roma's Two tone Datejust.

Surprised no mention of the Vostok in The Life Aquatic....
Bravo, great Episode !! I got chills
This is good but I can’t believe you skipped over the Zissou Vostok
Incredible series, please make more of these
What an amazing series
Waiting for the next
😁👏👏👏
Ending with the president was such a solid choice
I really enjoyed this segment. Looking forward to many more! Cheers!
Let’s be honest the only watch anyone talks about from “Zissou” is the Vostok but I guess not clickbait like a Rolex
Great episode. I personally like the latest James Bond Omega Seamaster for three reasons:

Did you hear that Rolex? HINT: #3
The Karen bit at the end was nice cherry on top to the video
Nice video , but left out the Vostok . I see I'm not the only one who noticed that . Maybe kinda snobby!
Mr Milton this was top notch. bravo! fun!
Karen...I just need one more for the collection. Great video
in The French Dispatch the watches were carefully chosen by Anderson. I think there's a Hodinkee video about it.
That's a video i have been waiting for.
Great video & story. Thank you
Omega really did well on their investment in 007.
This was pretty cool to watch. make it a regular thing!
We want MORE!!
What, what, what? The Life Aquatic watch was a GMT Master II? My gosh no, that trophy goes to the Vostok, the Rolex played a bit part compared to the various starring roles on Bill Murray and Willem Defoe's wrists.
New favorite series!
This is epic. Much more of this.
Let's see that Doxa Shark-Hunter in the next episode! I need an excuse to watch Three Days of the Condor again.
No kidding, I must have seen this movie 200 times, including many times in the theater!
I know Rolex is more famous but come on man when watch nerds mention Aquatic Life the first thing they think of are the Vostoks, not the Rolex.
I just watched Drive in the weekend with Ryan Gosling and his Patek features heavily in the movie. Perhaps for part 2
You skipped the Vostok in Zissou!!
Was hoping the beloved DW-290 made an appearance. The Mission Impossible!!!
Very good video!! Love it!
I think the Rolex DD played a bigger role in GGGR than Goodfellas so between the two movies featured, I would have highlighted that movie and iconic scene over anything in Goodfellas that barely showed the watch.
Well that was awesome! I got a film/watch question: what are the watches Andreas Riseborough and Dane DeHaan wear in ZeroZeroZero?
Great piece Danny!
Loved it, more of these videos please 🙏🏻
Fantastic video! Loved it!
Excellent, thanks.
Really enjoyed this!
Make this a series!
Amazing video!

Hey Hodinkee, apollo 13 had the Speedy but in reality they used a rolex gmt2 to time the reentry
This is an awesome series! 👍
Oh yeah this series works. Tv shows next?
I’d love to see more of these
Beautiful presentation
Yes, telling time is equally as important and shocking someone’s eyeballs out😂
Great work!
That was fun. I like Danny.
We go from Hey Hodinkee to this? Yeesh.
I like watches and movies too and try to see what watches are in movies using video editing! Even musicians (except John Mayer)...
more of these please
really solid content
More of this please
Good one!
7:32 - So true......
great content!
Great video
Love it! Make it a thing
Question: Is the Omega Seamaster 300m "No Time to Die" really a Limited Edition?

what about the Bulova bc the crystal on the Omega popped off rendering it non-functional ..?
