it is crazy how we can just say "John" when talking within the community and everyone knows which John. I liked his music before I knew of his love for watches, which would be when the first ep of taking watches came out.
THIS, THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE is the podcast/meeting I have been waiting for. Arguably one of the most legendary watch collectors (who is incredibly discreet about it) meeting with the best curator of all thing watches. Thank you for doing this.
Been waiting for this for ages! Such a great chat. Also, kudos to the camera operator for trolling the community by focusing on the travel clock and not the talent! 😂
I met Ed recently…didn’t ask for a selfie with him, I asked for a wrist shot of our watches. Being a very nice chap he said yes. He was wearing the Tiffany Patek…
Ed is great. So humble! Would love to see the talking watches even if it was only a small handful of special watches. The fact he doesn’t just want to put all his watches on a table shows how humble he is.
I honestly didn’t expect to want to sit through an almost hour upload BUT that went surprisingly fast! Thank you Ed & Ben & Hodinkee crew for this discussion. Fantastic! So stoked for this series! Can we get Ed, Ben, & John in a long form round table talk eventually as well? Pretty please???
Finally Ed talks about watches. I have like many others seen these nice watches on Ed’s arm and was wondering - What is his watch story and how much of a watch nerd is he ? Great to see how deep into watches he really is and I love that fact that he is not afraid to use them probably and give them their own story. Keep it up….
What a genuinely decent human being, everytime Ben went into something remotely near drama it was just swerved. I love seeing people who are clearly interested in items for more than it being a flex. This is proper old school Hodinkee content. Ben is a great interviewer too.
I disagree. Putin is a watch collector. George Soros is a watch collector. Saddam Hussein was a watch collector. Che Guevara and Fidel Castro were watch collectors, the typically hypocritical leftists often wore two Rolexes at the same time. Kim Jong-il and Kim-Jong Un were/are watch collectors. And so on.
The lawyer Hillary Clinton hired to lie to the FBI about the Steele dossier (which is a made up packet of lies Hillary Clinton hired a foreign agent to write) to get the FBI to aid their plan to slander her rival presidential candidate with lies in addition to the media companies they had paid to systematically spread those lies totally and clearly against any journalists' principles and rules without any verification, who was convicted recently, was also a watch collector.
@@pistonburner6448 you gotta chill my man, yes there are bad watch collectors, but there are good watch collectors as well, and theres a lot more good than the bad.

Love Ed. Saw his show a few years ago with my wife and seems like a great, down to earth guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. Nothing but love for this young man!
I love watching Hodinkee but put off watching this video for almost a week, due to the 48 minute length of the video. Having now watched it, I believe it is the best episode they’ve ever made. Great to hear 2 watch enthusiasts simply discussing their passion. Ed Sheeran really loves talking watches. And Ben excelled in his art of interview. Can’t wait for the episode of ‘Talking Watches’ in the future.
What a cool chap. I’ve never heard his songs. But I know he’s a popular pop guy. You can tell these guys are friends. Super fun casual chat. He reached superstardom at such a young age yet seems super grounded. No phone for the last 7 years. Love it.
Now that is what I call a good interviewer! Tired of seeing so many bad interviewers in the world, so refreshing to see someone bring out natural conversations from their guests.
Great episode. A statement that really resonated and harks to what Ed said, "Email is the perfect system for you to be on someone else's agenda for your life." Also, for my friends who are new to the watch game, I simply tell them to walk into a store and see what they like. Because they are unjaded or unswayed by the industry, it's nice to see what their honest pick is.
SO refreshing to see a guy, with money, that has the same passion that we all have for watches. He knows what he likes and displays the passion - def not a guy that is buying these pieces "because he can", but because he has a love for them
So happy to see Ed on this, i always knew he had nice watches but didn’t know he was so knowledgeable about them holistically. Can’t wait for talking watches with him! Thx for putting this together!

That was a really good episode. Ed really seems to love his watches and seems like a really nice guy. Ben saying about the Moonwatch hits a nerve with me. I’ve always wanted one and nearly bought bought one back in 2009 when they were selling for £1600 new. I had some cash from being made redundant during the recession and was so tempted but I had to be sensible and make sure I could pay the bills. pretty awesome chat! could have listened to more.
Oh yes, a little dream come true with this.
You know it’s a good day, when you just picked up your NWA and arrive at home and there is a Hodinkee x Ed Sheeran Video.
This is a classic.
Only thing is, James Bond spoiler alert warning.
Awesome job Hodinkee and Ed.
The people wanted it, and Hodinkee delivered for the people. That was excellent.
Great episode. Loved Ed's perspective on collecting as well as life and its distractions. Caught myself smiling throughout the video. Looking forward to the series!
That was an extraordinary 48 minutes. Good to see Ben in his element, long overdue
