  • Mallie is getting her first bus. It’s a little schoolie that she is going to convert to an rv. Having grown up in a family with lots of bus conversions i think she will do really well. I’ll post a link to her RUclips channel so you can follow the build. Good news is she knows that her blinker fluid is over filled.

      sorry i wont follow , just want to comment on how excited i would have been to have a diesel bus to fix into a camper when i were young . and also when he said put it in neutral " real quick " is everything about rushing real quick all the time lol . also why did that one guy have his toenails painted . thats soooooo funny .

      @@carmichaelmoritz8662 I am not sure about the school district where this bus came from (though I am sure it is similar) but I have heard about others that are required to replace their school buses once they reach a certain age regardless of condition. This bus does look a little rough around the edges however I am wishing Mallie the best on it.

    Awesome to be able to teach your daughter. I have a daughter but unfortunately after my wife died in 2016, she has decided to cut off all ties with me and I WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR HER. I miss the times my daughter and I had while she was growing up, She is 21 now and I am heartbroken that she refuses to even acknowledge that I exist. I always did right by her and wanted her to do the best at anything she wanted to do. It is just very hard that not only did I lose my wife to Ovarian cancer at 53 years old but I also lost my only daughter........

    •  5 лет назад

      Dustermaniac I'm going through the same thing with my daughter now, she'll be 21 in a few days and i don't even know if i should bother calling her. I called her on xmas and got voicemail, texted and got a xoxo back, she didn't call me for my bday so i feel your pain !! Kids can be real mean, but i guess she has her reasons and will tell me in time. Good luck and keep your head up!!

    The first bus I owned was a full size 1969 Dodge school bus and I used it for hauling band equipment and we would sleep on top of the PA speakers I put thousands of miles on it then I sold it to a friend who's family owned a trucking company. They in turn mounted a air compressor in it along with a tool bay, a small work bench and spare tires for servicing their big rigs with. It was a beast due to it's length. I now have a half bus and I really like it because I can maneuver it in tight areas and It will fit nicely in two parking spaces but it still has decent room inside of it even for a half-bus. I'm working on it getting it in top shape then I'll be converting it over to a camper.

    This has been my dream forever! I'm also 18, just about 19 here, but I have been wanting to buy an older school bus and do a RV conversion onto it! I've always had a thing for buses, thought they were incredibly cool! Probably why I loved doing my CDL course! We got to drive school buses!
    EDIT:
    Also from my experience with the buses during my schooling, none of them had a door interlock. Even the newer (2003 International) didn't. You could drive with the door open for as long as you wanted. I also noticed that the slightly older, I believe 98, like the one in this video had real bad electrical issues. Out of the 4 90s International buses we used, only one actually functioned 90% properly. One had zero electronics that worked except for one headlight. The seat was stuck, just like in this video. The mirrors wouldn't adjust, the door control knob broke off, and the speedo and other dashboard gauges didn't function very well. Those 90s buses also rattled like mad!

      @penelopepurr 5 лет назад

      @@user2C47 I have already had this discussion with someone in another thread. all the info is there. it is the one with my username on it. The simplest way I can explain it, is to say that if your car has brakes just like it does... hydraulic. BUT the park brake is air. an air park brake is very safe because it only gets stronger when air is lost, unlike hydraulic, which releases.
      So, the hydraulic service brake (the one you use to drive) goes on and off with pressure from your foot. But the park brake is placed on by dropping the air out of it, thus it can only be released by adding air, hence the compressors. What this means is the brake cant come loose if the bus is off, but can only loose air and become more "on".
      google how air brakes work and i am sure you will understand. its fairly simple and logical.

    That looked like a dt466e in there. It’s a pretty good engine but they are usually not far from an overhaul around 200k or so. I would check it over good. Those old school busses have usually lived a very hard life.

    A while back, I purchased a 66 passenger Blue Bird thinking my brother would help me camperize it. We had so much fun just driving around the city with it, even bringing my mom to church and back. That bus was propane powered though.. not diesel. Also, no air brakes and my regular driving license was sufficient to drive it . Buses rock though :)

    As a "Retired trucker" (Canadian) I strongly Overemphasize or Recommend you send this young person for a DAY course on "Air Braking System" that is taught at most Truck Driving Schools...the KNOWLEDGE gained in an 8 hour course is "Invaluable" as it make a person Understand exactly how the Air System works...and how to Adjust the Brakes properly. In my Past driving experience I have "HELPED" way to many truckers/etc with Air System problems(RV'rs too) that do not understand even the Basics of an air "Draw Down" Test....why its supposed to be DONE before moving...or even the Allowable Leakage/Pressurization time to Pressurize the system, before putting a Vehicle out of Service or fixing a problem that may get em killed...(Your call...just saying Guys?)

    Took me 51 years to get my first bus, and after a lifetime of driving just about anything that could be driven on a road, or suggestion of a road, or a frozen lake .. I was nearly peeing myself with excitement finally driving MY OWN bus 2-1/2 hours home.

    I love how on one side of the hood it says it has the 3800 DT466 and the other side it has the 7.3L T444E. Two very different engines and the 466 is vastly superior. (around the 3:00 mark)

    • @BurkesRepair
      @BurkesRepair 5 лет назад +1

      DT466 is definitely more superior and is a commercial engine. But the 7.3 is legendary in its own right. Not a powerhouse but dead reliable. 3800 is the International model and has nothing to do with the engine.

    • @oscarruutel
      @oscarruutel 2 года назад

      My bus had the same thing. It originally had a 444 under the hood but the prior owner blew it up and put a 466 in its place. May be the same situation here but either way I also had a bus with dt444e on one side and 466 on the other.
