I love my 2002 Z06 but it’s highly modified with a 600 HP 402 CI LS2. Built 6 speed, built rear end, lowered, rear spoiler, front splitter, I daily drive it and it runs great. 21 mpg and not much can take it on the street. Did 180 mph in a 1 mile run. Car is a 10.
Good review, these are fantastic cars! Every once in a while you will run across a high-mileage unit that is still going strong. There's nothing like them for the price.
Good looking C5Z and great review! I'm glad you mentioned you were considering a C4 ZR1. I was actually in the same boat since I've always loved the C4 shape and the LT5 is an awesome motor. Opted for the C5Z knowing I could use it as a daily driver and still have fun at autox. You're spot on about storage space in these cars. I'm a geologist and I was able to fit three 5 gallon buckets of rock samples in the back along with all my luggage.
Hell of a review bro, really enjoyed that! Ive never had a vette myself, my brother owned a few when we were younger..always wondered what it was like to drive ur particular version... love that motor's sound, such a Beast!
I have an 02 Z06 and I love mine. Got mine in 2017 with 14K miles. You’re right… if you don’t know what you’re doing, the beast can get away from you. Be careful with that power
You're on point on everything I have a C6Z06 and am really proud of it It has scary acceleration and is a purebred beast I must admit your 400 hp z06 is a bit more controllable than the mighty 427 that fish tails at 90 Good review bro C5zo6 is a unique car Enjoy the beast
I sold my 2004 Z16 to buy my current 2009 Z06 and think both are perfectly controllable on the street. In my experience, 525rwhp on street tires is about all you want unless you are seriously racing/tracking.
Yea man I agree 100%, C5 vette is not a good car for new "sports car" owners. Interior is eh, but not terrible, take care of it and it will take care of you. The plastic interior is fragile; I have sport seats and they are pretty much mint besides the rock back which is an easy fix also. I have a C5 hatch with 50k and everything works like factory. Full bolt on and riiiiipps. They are old, if you get one, do the research, pay extra for a well kept low milage one and take care of it. They will run forever
I owned a 2004 Z16 and loved it. With a mild cam and bolt-ons it made 420rwhp and was stone reliable. If you don't think that is a good sounding car...I don't know what to tell you. I took my C5Z grocery shopping all the time. If you you can get past the awful, yet functional, interior...you cannot beat a C5Z in bang-for-buck. The C4 ZR-1 was also awesome...you have good taste.
agreed on all points….and its not so much that i dont like the sound of ls motors, its more that i dont hear a lot of them done well. mine sounds great at high rpms but just kinda okay at regular driving. thanks for the comment!
@@dietsausage1 Long tube headers with high flow cats through the factory titanium exhaust is tough to beat on a C5Z. Too many people put crappy, pure loud exhausts on LSx motors. I had a DynoMouth (SLP Loud Mouth with a DynoMax bullet muffler) on my 2000 382ci Z28 and that sounded good as well.
I have a stock engine 04Z. What engine mods did you do? Any problems w/stock clutch or stock fuel at 420rwhp? (I already have Vararam and full exhaust)
Here's a little secret for all of you C5 ZO6 owners - the battery size group 24 is smaller in width and length than a group 27 but the group 27 will fit right in and if you're not worried about the few extra pounds that you're going to gain, the next time you need to replace the battery replace it with a group 27 car battery. My 2002 C5 Z06 goes weeks without any charge or starting and the battery is fine because of the extra storage the group 27 battery has ¿`_
I have a c6 grand sport and I love it but my favorite is the c5 zo6 but you said something kill the battery and I had heard that you have too put the car in reverse when you park it or it will drain the battery have you heard that or have you tried it
I have owned an 02 Z06 for a year also. It's a cool car and ridiculously fast, but has typical GM engineering issues including but not limited to: harmonic balancers don't last, leaks oil from the pans, traction control modules fail. It's almost impossible to work on these because they are so low and crap is packed so tight under the hood. Dunno about you, but I leave the traction control on because it breaks the tires loose so easy and wants to kick the rear end out.
I have an 03 Z06 and the new tires really help keep the rear end behind the front! Buy Continental pro contact tires, 295 in the rear and 275 in the front, same aspect ratio as stock. Major traction!
In the market for one of these in the coming year. Thanks for the review. Great information
youre welcome, thanks for watching

yessir!
I’m opposite of what you like. I liked the 71 to 73 and I own a c5 convertible and love it.
i still like them, the 53-55 vettes are the only ones i think are ugly. the 70s just arent my favorite anymore
I had an 01 Z06. Replace the OEM shifter with a B&M Ripper Shifter. Wonderful change
Really enjoyed that, especially the comment about being its caretaker until the next owner. 💪🏻
thank you kindly, i appreciate it and glad you enjoyed it
i bought a c5z06 at 20 and can confirm that electrical gremlin is annoying, have had my battery die prob 3 times in 3 months
since i got rid of that stupid optima battery, i haven’t had a single issue. once those things get drained all the way down theyre never good again
Nice car! I have a ‘19 C7Z and it’s awesome!
thank you much 😁
I enjoyed your honest review. I love my 2002 LS1 Trans am, but I would love to get a C5 someday. You have a beautiful car.
thank you, i appreciate the feedback. i suggest you bite the bullet and get one before they get too stupid expensive 😂
@@dietsausage1 I'm trying to save money. It will happen someday.
My first corvette

Now on my 7th now
Did c6z’s

Now in a 13 c6 ZR1

im looking at getting a c5 z06, 2003 with 74k miles on it, 1 owner car for 24k. what you think ?
if nothing is wrong with it, thats not a bad price. they have gone up quite a bit in the last couple years
I got one new amd loved it...... went on a 3000 mile road trip out the box....badass

no, but i’ll certainly give it a shot
The reverse gear to save the battery issue is on the C6.
I'm not sure if it's certain years of the C6 or all years.
