The C6 Z06 is by far my favorite Corvette. And I'm a Ford guy too! I think those Vette's look absolutely beautiful! Love them! Especially with the manual transmission. You did fantastic Tony, Barb, and Stone! Well done! You Guys Rock!
My daughter always wanted a corvette since she was little. I had a c6 years ago. She turned 16 this year and she now has a Jetstream Blue Metallic LS3 powered corvette. We've done several events with it this year including Tail of the Dragon. These cars are so fun!
That’s awesome! Hell of a first car for a 16 year old but hopefully that’ll allow her to be a killer driver as she gets older. I aspire to be that kind of parent in the future
I got a base c6 this summer. Low mileage stone stock, and I love it! I am a little older(almost 50) but I don’t care. It’s always been bucket list car for me……and for me even the ls3 is a great engine. Corvettes are fun!
I got a manual 2008 (first year LS3 C6 model release) base model C6, and the thing I’ve been gambling with having issues with, even with low mileage, was the clutch master cylinder and clutch line. I ended up still luckily having the factory clutch slave cylinder still working, and I went through 3 different AC Delco and GM CMC’s; and then replaced the stock clutch line, with a Tick stainless steel braided clutch line. It’s also still on the stock clutch and flywheel (universal Gen III/IV LS parts), which is still holding up well. It’s a LOT more work if you have to do the clutch/flywheel and/or the CSC and other trans work… I ended up adding a speed bleeder line for the slave cylinder, to save myself the trouble of trying to bleed the clutch from under the car… But ultimately, the factory CMC is by far, kinda subpar for what it’s worth… Other aftermarket upgrades apparently also don’t hold up in the long run; and I don’t plan on tracking the car or drag racing it any time soon (only has 39k miles at the moment!), so I plan on replacing the clutch hydraulics in the future with all brand new OEM parts again. I’m so paranoid of the CMC going out, that I was debating replacing that in the future as well….
Tony great video. I’m 76 and I bought my first Corvette in 1965. It was a 396 425 coupe. I’m currently driving my 24 Z06 and I drive it every day. For me that’s mostly to the grocery store and to the doctors office, but that’s my life now. Of course I do still drag race my cars although it is now still too hot in Florida to get a decent time but I expect that I’ll be running mid to high 10’s in a couple more months in Florida. I used to modify my C2’s and C3’s but the electronics and fuel systems of the newer cars are Beyond my skill level. Plus I do drive every day. I previously had a C7 06 that I also loved. If someone wants to modify the car, I would suggest that you buy either C6 or C7 LS or a C6 or C7 Z06 and go from there. The C8 Z06 is pretty much maximized in all areas and of course the tuning code hasn’t been broken yet, and it’s not like the C7 where you could put a bigger blower pulley and a tune bland pick up another 100 to 125 hp.. So if you want to do some real modification, I could not recommend the C8 Z06 so I guess the C7 would be the greatest pick if you want to go big horsepower. they don’t even make a drag radial for my rim size yet and switching to a smaller wheel. It’s just too expensive. As they say “the juice ain’t worth the squeeze.“ I have always daily driven all my Corvette since 1965. It’s based upon the fact that all these cars might cost more than normal so Why park them in the garage when you can drive it all day. Even when I live in Michigan they hey got driven in winter also. Of course here in Florida that’s not a problem. Thanks for your work.
I'm no expert but I've recovered enough seats to learn a few things the hard way. Flip the cover inside out, start at the top centered up perfectly and roll it down about 2 inches at a time and pull the cover tight tight and accept no wrinkles. Roll down another 2 inches and repeat. It's rough on your paws but they will fit tight. Take the time and you'll get results you're pleased with. First seat I did looked like a flour sack and took me forever. Love your channel.
Screaming deal on that Z06! Glad to see you breaking away from the stigma of an old man's car. I had my first Corvette at 23 ... in 1980. Sure, it was a '77 C3 and not highly valuable like the earlier models. It also wasn't all that fast and didn't handle particularly well, but it looked fantastic and I had a ton of fun with it. And the girls loved it! (which was important at the time) lol
Good steal. As a Vette enthusiast, I'm very pleased you grabbed this one. Took a field trip in college as a Machine Tool Technology student and it was a company called Akebono. It was a Japanese owned plant in SC that made the calipers and various other things for the braking systems on the C6 Z06 and ZR1. Very neat to see and get to hold and examine parts for a ZR1 before they are assembled.

All watching who have restored performance cars can relate to your experience and you guys are pros compared to all the home mechanics who struggle more based upon less experience. Great show. PS. I worked at Chevy Engineering where the Corvette was developed. I am old now and changing oil is about all I can handle after decades of wrenching. I have driven every generation of Corvette from C2 thru C8. I now live vicariously through you young strong guys. Thanks for restoring this special C6.
Working at the GM dealer they told us ABSOLUTELY DO NOT lift these cars without opening the hatch and the doors to keep it from flexing and breaking shit.
I used to have a 2011 Z06, road tripped it all over the USA, tracked it a bunch, it was a blast. With higher-temp pads I could never get the brakes to stop squealing no matter what I tried- grease, new slide pins, different rotors, new calipers. I would have swapped pads for street and track but you lose the quick pad change on those PBR calipers when you go to one-piece pads. I was looking at aftermarket big brake kits when I sold it. The LS7 is an all-time great engine. The sound, the torque, the way it revs out. Combine that with a 3100lb curb weight, crazy composites and magnesium and aluminum everywhere, monster tire sizes, huge brakes, great suspension, there’s nothing else like it. Look forward to seeing your journey with the car!
@@MarcusSandoval-kx2th I'm not a big C4 fan, but I'll admit I really kinda want a cheap C4 project car to cut a bunch of weight out of and [don't hate me] put a turbo K24 in😆. Even primarily being into V8s, I don't know why, but that just sounds like a really fun idea.
This car is so iconic ! In its time it was one of the fastest production cars to lap the Nürburgring and also one of the fastest cars around the Top Gear Test Track, all while running on run flat tires! No R compound Pirelli P Zeros like it'd competitors. You mentioned the top speed of over 190, Chevrolet had a chance to make this the first 200 mile per hour factory Corvette but Tadge Juechter, the genius behind the Corvette wanted better brake cooling so he sacrificed that extra top speed for that iconic 200 mark so it would be a better track performer! This incredible car had at 50 50 weight distribution and only weighed a little over 3000 pounds! LEGEND! PS: Also this 500 horsepower track weapon AVOIDED America's infamous Gas Guzzler Tax because that LS7 is so efficient🤯
Bro my brother bought this EXACT same car brand new in 2007. Black on black, 6 speed manual, Z06 with the polished wheels, and he garaged that car, loved it so much, then sold it at 5,000 miles to buy a ZL1 Camaro. He paid $86,000 for that car...cash too. Lucky MFer. Now he has a 2023 Cadillac CTSV Blackwing in that electric blue color...it's SO sick. He also has a 74 Camaro Z28 that is FULLY restored, then restomodded with flush mount glass, C5 Corvette door handles, a 425 HP 10:1 355 SBC with an Eaton 4 speed manual. It's a BEAUTIFUL car.
Looks way better with the black wheels... Black with red accents... Red calipers red Z06 badge etc... Black and red seats... It all ties together... Love the show dude watch every week... Keep killing it Tony and crew... Love stay tuned!!!!!

Stone looks like he could sell me car insurance up top and then make killer moonshine right after the sale was complete. Needless to say, he’s definitely a great addition to the channel
Tony, most brake noise doesn't come from the pad on the rotor it comes from metal on metal contact whether it be the back of the pad touching the caliper or the ends of the pads touching slides or whatever... That's why it's very important to use brake lubricant like sil glide on any contact surfaces... The pads do move around a little bit and they're designed to do so... That's what causes the noise when things are dry.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE the transparency…for many it can be very disappointing When you tackle a project when things don’t turn out as hoped ESPECIALLY when a lot of time and money are invested and it can make someone hesitant to “dive in” and try… 54:56
I have the same car, 07 Z06 in red. Bought it in 2011, I had the heads done by WCCH when the warranty ran out. I have 45k miles on it now. I have had zero issues with it. With ported WCCH HEADS AND A TUNE IT MAKES 502 RWHP. TONY, you don’t have to shift when doing 0-60. Great video in fact it’s your best. Corvette Forum is a good source for advice and parts. Also check out Utuber Chris Sullivan. He rebuilt a c6 Z06 with a 5.3 twin turbo. 👍👍👍
Technical Service Bulletin from GM on the hydraulic clutch throw out bearing is to change out the fluid in the reservoir on a regular basis and you should never have trouble. I have a CTS-V that now has about 222,000 miles and I change the clutch fluid in the reservoir at least every 3 months and I have not had any troubles. Yet. this is probably the same advice on the Corvette forums.
Wasn’t the biggest fan at first but then I learned about the choices you made based on you person values. now I’m loving everything you put out! Making money but being across the country and away from your family was not a good thing, mad respect!
I'm digging all the Corvette love as of late. I remember when the C6 first debuted. People were coming UNGLUED about the transition to a static headlight design. That crowd got real quiet once they seen what an animal that car really was. That LS7 is a legendary power plant. You can literally do a ZERO - TOP SPEED run in nothing but 5th gear if you so pleased. Pretty sure Clarkson did that on Top Gear way back when. Looking forward to seeing what you guys make of this one. I'm here for it!
I've worked on alot of corvettes. I would push the pistons in using the old pads while its still mounted on the car. With small pry bars/screwdrivers. Safe for the coating and logo. There's a copper paste gm sells to lube the pads. It works. The seats usually look wrinkly when youre done. Park it outside in the sun with the windows up. The seat back on those is usually sloppy forward and backward movement. Interior work is much easier with the roof removed! Can't wait to see you drive this thing on the limit.
Can’t wrap my head around what it would’ve been like driving this car when it first came out, especially compared to what else was available at the time. Good ol Bow tie knew what they were doing with this one. Great episode boys!
Good job Tony! You do well going through and showing how a real life build goes. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Good to see that you are keeping it real. I’ve always looked at the corvette as the GM holy grail and leaned towards it as the one to buy as the personal toy. I think you have confirmed that with this video. Someday I want to do the same thing. Thanks for keeping your videos authentic and showing the trials and tribulations that occur during a build. I find that all the time after market parts do not fit as described and you end up with results that are less than you expected.
Been doing upholstery on cars for 30 odd years. I'll give you some tips. You can't use steam on leather, it fucks it up. Get a heat gun. A proper one, not a hair dryer. I think you have one for heat shink tube. Heat the living shit out of the cover and the wrinkles will shrink up and go away. Go slowly and don't burn them. Only the faces of the covers are leather. They will take way more heat. The sides and backs are vinyl and will take less time to heat out. Use your hand like a karate chop to set the velcro in the listing and rub that shit like your old lsdys ass and tits while your doing it. Be patient. Lots of luck. The frames on those seats are a joke so get new frames.
Hey guys great video! I have an 05 base Z51 with swapped 08 Z06 transmission and a 13 GS diff that I put 3:90 gears as I autocross the car and the lower gears give me a bit more grunt out of the corners. I run an 18" 315 square setup on my car for autocrossing. But with 18's in the rear the traction system will freak out because of the rear tires being a smaller diameter. Your options are turn the traction and stability off or run it in competition mode to keep the car from cutting power while driving. As other's have said 315's are small to run on a wide body in the rear. Hope this helps and keep the good videos coming!😉
I bought a Subaru Sti engine from Lee about 10 years ago - back when it was out of his garage and basement. Awesome to see how much his operation has grown!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
Love it! I had a 2007 ZO6. Mine was red! Truly an animal! I believe that these are the best vehicles out there. Period! I was a GM engine and drive line specialist when these came out. I used to tell people that if GM built all their automobiles as well as the C6 Corvette that they would put all their competitors out of business. A bit of hyperbole I know, but they are seriously good and incredibly competent! Jack Henderson
we appreciate the straight up honesty as far as this learning experience goes with owning a road rocket guys! these are easily mistakes that anyone would make buying and repairing a car like this glad you chronicled this for the community to learn from!
Glad to see this amazing car in this channel. I think people shy away from it because of the valve guide issues. Just do oil analysis every oil change. Check the valve guides for wear, maybe 10k even the heads were fixed. Been dreaming of this car for a while.
Crazy pickup, the price to performance for what you paid is unbeatable. The ideal tire setup if your running 18s for track use is 315s upfront and 335 rears. With 19" wheels you can do 295 upfront and 325/345 rear. 315 works but is abit small.
Great video! I have had my C6 Z06 for about 6 months. Incredible car. It can make a bad day a good one with just a ride to the corner store. Have fun with yours!
I've wanted a c5 for years after having a 400hp 1.8t miata and i finally got one about a month ago. I live in Detroit. When i was in high school, a friend of mines father worked for GM. He was in product development. He often got to bring home company cars from the stable, one of which was a 2008 zo6. One friday, that friend, brought it to mutual friends house, and let me jump in the drivers seat to take him for a ride, because I could drive a manual significantly better than either of them. I'll never forget that 130mph pull down telegraph! 😂 I'll always have a special place in my heart for these beautiful machines.
Love the breakdown and honesty. Seems everytime I start a 10 min project and takes 2hrs. But then when you procrastinate for months it only takes 10 minutes, WTF.
FYI that's still the old style master cylinder for the clutch, there was a TSB for the master cylinder and the new one is black not clear. The issue that has occurred to some and reason for the TSB is the clutch can stick to the floor due to failure on that style, especially during spirited driving. Also, aluminum frame, not magnesium. Great pick up!
I used discount tire one time a few years ago. They scratched all of my wheels on my BMW. Plus the balance machine was not calibrated correctly which caused me to come back. 500 lb-ft of torque and only 3100 lbs NEVER gets old lol. It's the perfect amount of weight, power, torque, aero, suspension, speed, stiffness, and driver involvement to be an absolutely bonkers car for any level of driver. It was absolutely world-beating for its time - and still is today. Taking a C6 Z06, caging it, adding carbon ceramic brakes, and dropping in a stroker LT1 engine turns that up to 600/600 with ease, and upgrading to magnetic ride suspension basically turns it into a rocketship on rails with modern tires because it's so light for the amount of tire it can stuff underneath it.

I really appreciate the fact that you guys are real. Things didn't go well, and you embraced it. The car turned out better for it. Thanks for taking us on the journey.
Imagine the BALLS on the dude who drove that car daily for well over 250K miles.
I'd love to shake that guy's hand!
And it still looks that nice!

I bought a 98 ls1 camaro, it had 100k when i bought it, i put 150k on it in about 4 years of daily driving before i sold it. I dont get guys who buy cars like these and drive it a few weekends a year.
I'm a weirdo that bought a C5Z with 10k miles on it and proceeded to use it as a daily driver for a 100 mile round trip commute (During northeast winters too, do not do snow/ice on summer performance tires, I do not suggest it). Now it has 150k on it. Not quite 250k, but still.
I really like that you came out and said some of these parts just were not cutting it. there is such a quality issue and getting these suppliers to quit mailing it in is huge for us diy guys. great show as usual your team is killing it

Your daughter is cooler at 16 than most of us are now lmao. Hell yeah, man
I got a base c6 this summer.
It’s a LOT more work if you have to do the clutch/flywheel and/or the CSC and other trans work… I ended up adding a speed bleeder line for the slave cylinder, to save myself the trouble of trying to bleed the clutch from under the car…
But ultimately, the factory CMC is by far, kinda subpar for what it’s worth… Other aftermarket upgrades apparently also don’t hold up in the long run; and I don’t plan on tracking the car or drag racing it any time soon (only has 39k miles at the moment!), so I plan on replacing the clutch hydraulics in the future with all brand new OEM parts again.
Its Just a super Shitty quality seat cover as soon as i seen the cover i knew it wasnt gonna look right and would get full of wrinkles...
Found this channel from VGG, i used to watch it after I watched VGG. Now i watch it before VGG. Keep it up Tony.
Great find.

Freakin love working on modern vettes ...how easy was that hub\bearing assembly 😊 if you viewers ever considered owning a Vette just DO IT 😁

Shot every time Tony says puppies 🫗
ABSOLUTELY LOVE the transparency…for many it can be very disappointing When you tackle a project when things don’t turn out as hoped ESPECIALLY when a lot of time and money are invested and it can make someone hesitant to “dive in” and try… 54:56
I like the natural progression of Tony switching from Converse to New Balance.
Buddy had one with a cam, long tube headers and e85. Legit fun.

Did you guys check the adjustment bolts on the leaf springs? If not you can lower the car a nice bit

It's so nice to see things as they actually unfold doing any job. Makes it real 😊👍. All the best Danny UK 🇬🇧

Let's do this.

Glad to see this amazing car in this channel. I think people shy away from it because of the valve guide issues.
Just do oil analysis every oil change. Check the valve guides for wear, maybe 10k even the heads were fixed. Been dreaming of this car for a while.
Love when two of my favorite RUclips channels can get together!
Good video. You show a true enthusiasm. Thanks.
Crazy pickup, the price to performance for what you paid is unbeatable. The ideal tire setup if your running 18s for track use is 315s upfront and 335 rears. With 19" wheels you can do 295 upfront and 325/345 rear. 315 works but is abit small.

I live in Detroit. When i was in high school, a friend of mines father worked for GM. He was in product development. He often got to bring home company cars from the stable, one of which was a 2008 zo6.

Corvettes are awesome! I love my c5 with cam, headers, stall and tune!
