Been meaning to tell you this Matt. NEVER APOLOGIZE for bringing Peanut along🙂. My guess is your videos are at least 40% better with a cool dog running around in them. That’s a fact🤣👍
Many years ago I had a 65 Chevy C/60 car hauler with a 348 big block. It had the exact same brake problem. After weeks of trying to resolve it I ran into an old timer who ran Chevy trucks. He clued me into the fact that the rod from the brake pedal to the master cylinder was adjustable. It was was threaded with a lock nut to adjust length. It took very small adjustments to solve the issue. My truck was stock. So when you had the same issue, my jaw dropped. Must be an old school Chevy C/60 thing. It was good to see Ed.
I was thinking that push rod was too long, like perhaps it was the wrong rod, or perhaps it was to to do with how they designed and built the peddle assembly, but an adjustable rod would be the ideal way to take account of those variables. I just Googled 'chevy brake master cylinder push rod' hit the Images tab, and every one of them was adjustable.
I made the same mistake on an International truck as an apprentice [here in Australia] never backed the rod back and the truck ended parked on the side of the road with the brakes locked on. [with a red face. guess who had to go and fix it]
I had to call an older guy to tell me where the master cylinder was located. It was under the seat. The pushrod had to be adjusted periodically as the shoes wore down.
I worked in the spring industry, the one you removed is a Parabolic which gives you a softer ride & only works on those curved leaves the bottom one works when you have a heavy load, the multi leaf you are replacing them with are much stronger but the give a harder ride but do not drop as much when they have a load on, the less distance length wise between each leaf is much better
I was worrying that they might have just ruined the ride of blue steel. I drive ram 4500, and if they are not weighted down, they are rough. Air bags might have been a better option, but more difficult to install.
My Dr. said that I need to get more exercise so I told my wife that I am going off roading. She asked how is that getting some exercise?! I explained that I do a lot of walking when I spot a line through an obstacle. So thanks Matt for showing my wife how off roading is good for your ❤. Thanks for sharing.
Bring a bike with you! Explore around and get the heart rate up, never have to stray far from your rig until you build cardio too. Bikes are a great middle ground, don't let your pride get in the way, get a VERY comfortable seat until you're used to seat time too. Sore butts from people sitting on rocks is a quick way to dissuade newcomers otherwise lol 😅
I just came accross your videos and ive got to say i love it. I love how you and your son work together and believe you have raised a very well-mannered, intelligent, and responsible son, which reflects on what a great father you are.
I believe you can adjust the master cylinder push rod, there should be 1/16th of an inch clearance between the push rod and the piston bore inside the master cylinder. I've used baring grease before to make sure the push rod had clearance and wasn't bottoming out. I just stuck a bit of grease on the piston bore and then stuck the master cylinder in place with just hand presser, if the push rod is too long it will push all the grease out and be metal to metal, but if it's adjusted correctly it will leave 1/16th of an inch of grease between the two.
There's two rods, one from the brake pedal to the Booster and one in the Booster to the Master Cylinder, both usually have adjustment. The problem is usually the one in the Booster being too long and holding the piston in the Master Cylinder in slightly.
Is it possible the lines are too small feeding to the Rears and it's causing a delay for the fluid to go back up? I remember my textbook talking about prop valves set up for rear drums causing problems when converting to rear disc as well, there was a restriction in them. I want to say the example car was a Camaro but high school was 20 years ago
Correct, pedal is on the upper pedal stop and the pushrod is applying preload to the hydrobooster. That will cause brake creep in hydroboost systems as it never truly opens the hydraulic circuit back up. This can also happen when a hydrobooster fails internally, it’s not uncommon at all.
In my 57 Chevy, I had trouble getting it set right. As just a quarter of a turn from just right to having drag making heat locking up the brakes. I used a thin cutoff to put a shot in it. That gave me a way to see how much it was turning and a way to hold it from turning to set the locking nut.

But it would work just as well for "hunting for the customer", "facing some obstacle mocking the crew's competency" etc. Maybe I grew up watching too many spaghetti westerns, but that background music just fits anything "Utah", perfectly.

Great that you don’t have to far to go Shakedown the Spud Truck . It’s a unique 1 off . So it just has to be done. Hope you get well soon Matt . You have a great crew around you too . They might be young but they are all enjoying themselves doing what they do . Mart UK x
The Duck Dynasty, or even better ZZ TOP looks better. Just oil and groom that bad boy Matt ! Jamie might have a say when it comes to other manscaping......🤣🤣🤣
I enjoy your videos, informative and interesting ... what I love the most is how your family is so involved in all of this, as well as the others who cameo from time to time ...... good luck
Brake dragging, gah...I chased my tail for years on my Datsun, gradual increase in pressure with each press. Finally found check valves for drum brakes in the master cylinder. Removed and had the greatest ride in years.
@ my guess it’s a disc front drum rear master. Hence why it’s holding the brakes on a bit. Drum masters have a wee check valve to keep a little pressure in the line to stop the shoe springs completely closing the wheel cylinders as soon as ya let off the pedal. Put that on a caliper and they drag like mad.
I love that you don't edit out the mishaps. Watching your videos one can learn alot about the intricacies of how all these systems work watching you build, test, and fix your custom builds. Bravo
Glad you got yourself checked out, Matt. Seemed a bit off and it seemed like a bit more than the haze of just coming off a flu. I'm just getting over one myself and as much as I hate it, it's best to keep on top of that. Taking care of ourselves ensures we're there to take care of ours, that's my perspective. Also, that was a totally redemption for the Spud Truck! A few things to adjust and it's the beast it's setting itself out to be. Can't wait to see it tear up the trails in full production! Feel better!
She's looking and sounding good! I know the driveline and axles have been alot of work, but watching the rear tires lift on grades makes me wish for a walking beam type rear suspension.
@@bigredc222 no not using light truck rear ends. The time and money to build a inferior drive could have been spent on a proper truck set up with a redesigned long travel walking beam set up that could climb over a 3 foot rock with all 4 rear wheels on the ground the current set up can't climb up a curb with out lifting 2 wheels off the ground. But it still good watching the build even if it not the way I would have done it
Most master cylinder have an adjustable rod in-between the booster and master cylinder.....they even make a tool to measure the depth needed....to adjust that rod....
That truck is really starting to wok out. I like when the rear twin axles take turns when you are going up something steep. Caitland you are really coming into your self, much more comfortale being the seminaratot. Nice way to start my Sunday
Don't get discouraged you guys are awesome I love the content! From Indiana and I watch every video. Feel like family. Thanks for getting me through the day
I realized that I have watched your kids grow by watching your show for so long. I recently met the "new" boyfriend of one of my granddaughters. I believe your daughter and her are around the same age. That is when I realized when your daughter starts dating I think I and some of the other viewers would like to have a little chat with any little young punk trying to court her. You have two things to worry about. Some young little punk trying to put his hands on her and your trucks. I have faith the brothers will not make courting her easy but you cannot be too safe. Thank you for your time and attention in addressing this issue.
5:45 love the desert dust falling down here. Anyone that has been near MOAB knows what that is and how it warms the heart when you love rock crawling and outdoor lifestyle.
That's kind of funny to tow a rollback with another rollback. So cool to see it in action. Can't wait to see it do recoveries. Love your content as Always Matt.
I'm quite impressed.. again.. this build is going to be just as epic as the others. Still like the heavy wrecker and morvair best..but lets see what is up your sleeve for the finish of this one :- ) Looking great so far !!
Every redemption arc should end with a cookout at Jefe's! The good news is the driveshaft had zero issues! All the other stuff, while a problem, is easily fixed and gets the old girl on the trail! I'm really loving this channel!
11:36 when you have an extension that long, the entire extension has to torque before it can transmit the force. That's why front wheel drive cars have a tendency to pull to one side on heavy acceleration, the short axle wraps up first and transmits power while the longer axle has to wrap further before it can transmit.
Yeah, I think Jake learned something about impacts and extensions. Not only does the long extension absorb most of your impact, every additional tool you add in the stack (extensions, adapters, etc) also absorb force as well. Extensions and breaking tight stuff loose just doesn't go together. Of course, that nut on the spring bolt was TIGHT! Probably corroded too. That was a real test.
Longer half-axle weights more and accelerating bigger mass needs more force. With open diff that leads to power being sent to the wheel with short half-axle.
Ive just found your channel a couple of days ago and have now watched about 5 clips with recoveries. I must say I reallly like this calm and factual wibe and I have now subscribed. So many youtubers who allways exaggerates situations, and just a lot of shouting and nonsense... So refeshing to see the calm methods, just taking it for what it is and may I say, whit a lovingly feel amongst the whole crew/family. Keep up the good work. Watching from sweden
Another great video. Nice to see the 6x6 Spud being tested. It's good you test it in stages. Why would you want all the sheet metal and stuff in the way especially when looking for leaks or issues. What's going to be on the back and what will be the main job for it?
When you paint it use Matt’s shirts as a theme.. mount Winch and a battery to the bed and use a Anderson connector for the battery when the bed is down position
Houston?? Wow. I've been watching for years. Never thought Houston was on the radar for yall. 24th. Picked a great week to show up. We're expecting 3-6 inches of snow. Monday- Wednesday. Normal for you but the infrastructure for Houston not so much. Be safe. I will try and get there to see yall. Big time fan!!! Expect traffic and construction where you going..☺️ there may be flight delays with this winter storm. It's Texas
My advice is to plan the rest of the undercarriage of the Spud Truck so that you can route the exhaust further back, just in case it gets too loud in the cab.
Protect your hearing boys n girls. Exposure to loud noises, especially high-pitched ones, can cause permanent hearing loss if not properly protected against.
@@daboss117flyMy father spent most of his life working in an large locomotive assembly plant and now suffers from nearly debilitating tinnitus and hearing loss. Anytime I'm in a shop or working in a garage I will wear in-ear protection. If I'm working near machines or anything with prolonged excessive dbs, over the ear protection is added. I'm 47 and still think I hear pretty well.
Matt - So sorry to see you are getting sick. Glad it's something Antibiotics will fix! The Spud Truck (will we ever call it anything else?) looks marvellous on the shake down cruise! Fortunately, everything that went wrong will be an easy fix and it's great that you learned what course corrections you need to make.
It's always funny when someone talks about how cold it is there and they are in a hoodie and flannel. Today in Wisconsin by me, it's -4⁰ and a windchill of -8⁰ with a feels like -20⁰ temperature. Oh wait we warmed up -3⁰
I always find it funny when midwesterners use wind chill as an accoutrement to actual temps to brag about how cold it is….when they’re sitting in their homes or cars 99.999% of the time.
21 minute in I think I saw smoke? But yes new muffler will smell cooking off. You should hand push the spud truck to find where brakes are released. While it’s going to be an amazing rig. I still think a one ton, crew cab, long bed pickup. Swap reg cab, put a tandem kit in, roll bed. But extend frame to put it behind existing rear axle. Few I have seen are in front in 6x6. The ones behind I think were just rolling. I think with frame extension it could handle many smaller SUV to load, any side by side, plus be solid kenetic rope, winch recovery unit.
Get Bondo Billy to fix that door. Tell the kids about loctite. Give it some heat before you break the socket. Truck looks great. She looks like a tail dragger. Better put some caster wheels under your tail. Stop at one of those airplane junkyards on your way to texas and scavenge some landing gear. Alright you got the 6X now you need a half track and a gamma goat. Thanks dude and I hope you feel better soon.
That s exactly what I was thinking. If there’s loctite on the bolt ( which there probably was ) even if you do manage to break it loose it will fight you all the way off. A little heat and it breaks free normally.
I have a 50 series under my rig, nice mellow toen while cruising, nice growling roar when my foot is one with the floorboard, I'm sure your gonna love them
Jefe missed his calling as a chef ! He's a master chef and enjoys it all. Katelynn and Jake had a time replacing those springs...Great job. Excellent editing and flow on your videos thanks to your crew. Spud Truck has come of age...nice build.
Just a small name change recommendation: As you may be aware (😉), there is another channel with a rescue truck called "Mater". Instead of "Spud Truck" call this truck "Tater".
There is multiple "Mater"s Rory has Trail Mater and now Mini Mater, and Merlin (Paul's cousin) has his diesel offroad wrecker Tow Mater as well that has been to the offroad games before.
yup always need to test as you go. don't want to build it to completed and find out that certain functions don't work. imagine getting fully completed and had to rip half of it apart to change issues. keep up the good work Matt and crew
What year is bluesteal i have a 2012 f250 and its been a pretty good truck. Has around 35k miles and sat more than it was driven. It was dads last truck and he just couldn't get in and out of it. So just sitting in the garage was hard on some things. I paid it off and put a new turbo on it fixed the rear end leak at the diff cover. Changed the batteries put some tires on it. Now if it would get more that 12mpg id be ecstatic.
My name is Arlo. I am three years old. I ❤️ this channel. Peanut is my favorite. Matt is my second favorite. I have many tow trucks in my fleet. After watching, I reenact the video with my toys. Keep up the good fun.
Well, I'm glad you got it partly redeemed I'm sure that you guys will get it fixed up in no time. good job on getting it to this point I look forward to seeing it run the dunes when everything's fixed but you're making good progress thanks for sharing
Jake - I recommend a product called KROIL penetrating oil. KROIL is what many professional shops use on rusted nuts, bolts, parts, etc. It is not instant however, ideal if you have time, soak the items in KROIL overnight either by soaking or spraying down a few times. I also light tap on the part if I can to set up a little vibration to help the KROIL penetrate. Just a suggestion.
That if heat if in a hurry. Torch, not cutting heat. Maybe orange. Then try hot. If no go orange, water on threads if you can. Then cut nut off, replace. If it will not come with that force. It’s best to replace. But known jobs. Spraying w/penetrating oil, first steel bristle brush if needed. You will tell yourself to always do that.n
There are different hydro-boost rod lengths. In some cases you do need a spacer. I tried 2 hydro-boosts on my dodge and finally just made a spacer. Worked fine after i built a spacer. Compared the shafts to the master cylinder they were the same. I think there is something inside the booster that caused the problem. I have put many boosters on and had no problem till i replaced mine.

@@tylerisvinny absolutely! About time that got dealt with! 😁
I think Matt knows a body man.
it gives character
Boy I think Kaitlin and Jake make a great pair working together. And I give kat credit she has came so far. Love how you grabbed tire and took it off . I know there not supper heavy but they are not lite. Don't give up .
Great that you don’t have to far to go Shakedown the Spud Truck .
It’s a unique 1 off . So it just has to be done.
Hope you get well soon Matt .
You have a great crew around you too .
They might be young but they are all enjoying themselves doing what they do .

Thats a sweet looking 60 love the look of those old tandems you may be starting a trend
Trimmed beard looks way better. Good job Jamie.
11% better
The Duck Dynasty, or even better ZZ TOP looks better. Just oil and groom that bad boy Matt ! Jamie might have a say when it comes to other manscaping......🤣🤣🤣
11% less garden gnome
Still want to know where the 11% joke comes from. Noticed the 111% in there.
I like the long beard. You’re still pretty though.
99.9% it’ll be this. Came here for this comment. Had this in and old land cruiser that I did a disc conversion on.
Likely it is a disc disc master cylinder already, from a Super Duty right?
@ my guess it’s a disc front drum rear master. Hence why it’s holding the brakes on a bit. Drum masters have a wee check valve to keep a little pressure in the line to stop the shoe springs completely closing the wheel cylinders as soon as ya let off the pedal. Put that on a caliper and they drag like mad.
the Spud Truck is a Beast! A shake down is not a break down. its information!

I love that you don't edit out the mishaps. Watching your videos one can learn alot about the intricacies of how all these systems work watching you build, test, and fix your custom builds. Bravo

@@MrWiseinheart yes he does.
Agree its not the way to do rear tandems worse then air ride off road. But in some situations it could work OK.
I was thinking the same thing, but I don't think that would work with the drive shaft set up they are using.
But it still good watching the build even if it not the way I would have done it
watching for at least 6 years. love the family , love the crew, love the repair wwork, most of all love the recoveries.
Thanks for getting me through the day
17:16 The smile on Matt's face says many words of joy 😄
I realized that I have watched your kids grow by watching your show for so long.
I recently met the "new" boyfriend of one of my granddaughters.
I believe your daughter and her are around the same age.
That is when I realized when your daughter starts dating I think I and some of the other viewers would like to have a little chat with any little young punk trying to court her.
You have two things to worry about.
Some young little punk trying to put his hands on her and your trucks.
I have faith the brothers will not make courting her easy but you cannot be too safe.
Thank you for your time and attention in addressing this issue.
Spud truck is a beast, going to get a lot of use i reckon! Looking so good
Wow, Houston? Interesting part of town but we'll see you there, and the snow should be gone by then!!
Love your videos here in Maine . My brother and I booked our tickets for off-road games and cannot wait!
That's awesome!!
I was there last year and had a great time.
Make sure you confirm your lodging early!
I'm quite impressed.. again.. this build is going to be just as epic as the others. Still like the heavy wrecker and morvair best..but lets see what is up your sleeve for the finish of this one :- ) Looking great so far !!
Hope you get to feeling better matt
Much respect to you watching your leadership of this young Americans thank you ❤
Every redemption arc should end with a cookout at Jefe's!
As soon as they show that extension and and electric impact I knew lol not coming off that way
i dont disagree with your science, but it is the lack of a limited slip differential that causes 1 side to pull on fwd
It was fun seeing Tom Tom again.
Another great video. Nice to see the 6x6 Spud being tested. It's good you test it in stages. Why would you want all the sheet metal and stuff in the way especially when looking for leaks or issues. What's going to be on the back and what will be the main job for it?
Wait; you brought tools?! 🤯😂 23:51
It took years of training to teach Matt to gas up before going on a recovery! 😀❤👍
@samspade7360 🤣
Looks great out there. Can't wait to see it finished and in the action.
When you paint it use Matt’s shirts as a theme.. mount Winch and a battery to the bed and use a Anderson connector for the battery when the bed is down position
Hope you feel better Matt! You all are awesome. Prayers from Rancho Cucamonga, California
A flatbed tow truck that can eat pink slips wasn't on my BINGO card, that's for sure!
Houston??
I really dig the wheels you chose for the Spud Truck. Looks awesome! Be safe!
Protect your hearing boys n girls. Exposure to loud noises, especially high-pitched ones, can cause permanent hearing loss if not properly protected against.
If you're like me, and I know I am, some day you'll be 63 with tinnitus and you'll wish you had protected your hearing better! 🙉
I wonder how many times you were told that and didn't listen? So, you can comment that but it doesn't mean they will listen.
@@daboss117fly True that, but at the end of the day I'll know I did what I could.
WHAT ?
Matt - So sorry to see you are getting sick. Glad it's something Antibiotics will fix! The Spud Truck (will we ever call it anything else?) looks marvellous on the shake down cruise! Fortunately, everything that went wrong will be an easy fix and it's great that you learned what course corrections you need to make.
People worried about Not a Sponsor but forget yall inhale weld fumes all day. 😅
Hey Matt ,I'm Proud to watch you and your awesome Family !!!!
Great work MORR team!
Fantastic editing, MORR team! What a high quality video!
Awe Tom Tom and Matt together brings back memories 🎉
It's always funny when someone talks about how cold it is there and they are in a hoodie and flannel. Today in Wisconsin by me, it's -4⁰ and a windchill of -8⁰ with a feels like -20⁰ temperature. Oh wait we warmed up -3⁰
The wind chill in LaCrosse is -27 right now.
Real temp here in west-central Minnesota was -22 this morning
I remember living in Montana at -20 below and when it warmed up to 20 above it felt like I was in a heat wave.
I'm in Utah and we get pretty dang close to that in my area.
I always find it funny when midwesterners use wind chill as an accoutrement to actual temps to brag about how cold it is….when they’re sitting in their homes or cars 99.999% of the time.
The Spud truck is going to be EPIC!!
That truck is a beast!
I'm wondering if the 6x6 also needs rear steer!
I have a 50 series under my rig, nice mellow toen while cruising, nice growling roar when my foot is one with the floorboard, I'm sure your gonna love them
27:46 Get well soon!
Something about this particular edit. One of the better ones I’ve seen. Great show folks.
I love how Jake says, " Tyota", lol.
Yeah! 6x6 content!!! Lets go! Oh, and glad you are feeling better, Matt!
I like how Jake hides behind his sunglasses and the red solo cup.
yup always need to test as you go. don't want to build it to completed and find out that certain functions don't work. imagine getting fully completed and had to rip half of it apart to change issues. keep up the good work Matt and crew
Greetings from the netherlands matt & crew shoutout to you all 👏👏
and more greetings from the Netherlands over here :D
@ haha Nice man
What year is bluesteal i have a 2012 f250 and its been a pretty good truck.
That’s awesome that you’re only 3 and can type full sentences.
This is cute
I would recommend impact extensions for your shop. Those chrome extensions rob your impact of all torque that is supposed to go to the fastener.
6:21 - Excellent taste. Love how all these vehicles are turning out.
It's so exciting to see ya'll getting closer to putting the spud truck into the Matt's OffRoad Recovery corral.
At approx. 12:35 i'd like to see that boogered bolt, just out of curiosity...
Left handed thread maybe 😅
I’ve never had a bolt that tight that didn’t break before it came loose.
So much sand, so little Bombi.
Oh well, let's hear LT's engine roar in the spud truck...
Jake, is that Bombi ready to go ?
12 volt microwave in the Bombi...for soup...
That’s a big 10-4
