So you book a vehicle online. You will be using it for an 8 day trip out of state and back. You have scheduled your time off from work. Your friend that you are visiting also scheduled their time off from work. The day before you are supposed to pick up the vehicle, the host cancels the rental on you. Now you are screwed as you scramble around trying to find another vehicle. Maybe you do. Or maybe you have to cancel the entire trip.
This unfortunately does happen. If it did happen to you, I am so sorry that it did. That is not a reflection of all Turo hosts, and that is why I stress doing research on the host’s past trips before booking. Freak accidents happen obviously, but even in those circumstances, a host can set a guest up for success in getting into another vehicle.
It is dependent on the state in which you book, as well as other fees that Turo may charge depending on trip length, age of the guest, and other factors. You ultimately see all charges that will apply to your booking before you confirm.
I found your review to be very helpful, thank you. Just one question, Do they put a hold on any money from your credit card In case of a fine or something?
There are certain circumstances where they hold a security deposit depending on the circumstances. They usually tell you why and how much before you decide to book.
so we are thinking of going this route. usually rent from dollar or some counter at the airport. if you pay in advance and the person doesn't show to give you your car isnt that person a fish out of water? Do those things happen when you rent from Turo? what happens if your car won't start or something happens to the car you rented. do they bring you another one like the big rental places do?
All these things can happen. Host doesn’t show, car isn’t working right, or it may not be an overall pleasant experience. That’s why it is SO important to look at ratings of renters and verbatims to see the experience. Its equivalent to risks of an airbnb.
You want to document anything on the car that you don’t want to be held responsible for. So for instance, dents, scratches, fuel level, etc.. when you return the car, you will want to document the condition of it when you return it as well as mileage and fuel level.
Turo offers protection plans up to a certain amount maximum out of your pocket. Should you choose to use it. The plan you decide to pick shows up in the confirmation screen. Some personal insurance companies do protect you, but you will want to check with your insurance company to see if they do cover.
I've worked in auto claims for the last 8 years....Geico, Travelers, and now AAA. We cover damage to the rental. Just provide your rental agreement. If you have a non-standard (high risk) policy or you are insured with an insurance company that is small and not well-known, you do want to verify with your insurance that the cover damage to temporary substitute autos and rentals. The larger insurers will typically cover damages. A claim would have to be initiated with the Turo vehicles policy....they will most likely deny the claim, and that's when your insurance steps in. The Golden rule is "the insurance on said vehicle follows that vehicle," meaning THAT vehicle's insurance is always primary. Again, most insurers do not cover damage on a vehicle you are renting out for Turo....it presents a liability factor that the insurance can't properly rate because the drivers and usage of the vehicle can be infinite. That's why they typically deny coverage. It's a lot, but I hope it helps. P.S. you have to have comprehensive and collision coverage on your insurance policy in order for damages to be covered. If you have only liability, your insurance WILL NOT cover the Turo vehicle's damage
I'm trying to book a car for July in Portland , Or. When I enter my phone number I'm told that a text is sent to me. I even put in my wife's phone number and no text yet. The Turo help is no good as there is only the chat and it keeps asking for a persona and I don't know what that is. Is there any way to talk to a person??
My only personal suggestion would be to delete the account you created if you can and maybe make a new one, if you are past that point contacting Turo Support would be the only other route. There also can be a difference using the app versus online on turo.com. I would definitely try both if you haven’t.
I believe there are some options where you can reserve without paying on certain circumstances, but you do have to pay for the vehicle before picking it up.
I hope you can help me, please? 🥺 I signed up last year and wasn’t approved. I came back to look into it and was able to get to the confirm booking page, BUT on the account tab it says I’m not approved. I contacted support and they said I’m good to go and it’s when I do my first booking that I’m confirmed. Is that true? I’m not approved until I book?
I would say try going through the booking process and see if you are able to fully finish booking. If not, unfortunately, you may have to contact support to figure out what is going on.
@@atchoorentals thanks for the answer. I ended up contacting support again cause I’d feel bad about booking a car just to cancel. Turns out it was as simple as verifying my license, so I’m good to go - account approved! 😃
You will see a final total at the very end, and that is the only amount you need to pay unless you have intentions on extending or needing to change locations or extras. They offer varying levels of protection, which is explained in the video as well.
Since it is considered a debit card, I don’t believe it should be an issue. They accept all major credit cards, so if it is a MasterCard or Visa or something of that nature, then that should not be an issue.
It depends on the rental, you can have a lock box on the outside with the car locked and the host provides you a code, the car may be unlocked remotely or you may meet the host directly. They usually will tell you which process they use!
You do need it to first be verified and then you may get asked for it again just before your trip begins, either by host verification in person or through the app if a contactless pickup.
There can be, depending on the type of car and other factors. If there is a deposit that is to be paid, you will see it on the final confirmation screen before you are charged. It will also tell you that it is refundable.
We have a lot of people that want to use the cars for prom! The biggest thing is, an approved driver has to be the one to drive the vehicle. So if a parent is booking for the child, then the parent has to drive the vehicle unless the child is approved to drive by Turo.
In those situations, I'd submit everything to Turo and see if they approve you as a driver. If you already are, I'd suggest contacting Turo support and explaining the situation so you'll know what needs to be communicated to the host once you book a car.
Yes! You will simply choose the protection plan that is best for your budget, should anything happen to the car. Either the $0 out of pocket, $3000 or the full value of the car.
This is why I always stress looking at the reviews. This can happen, but with the research you can minimize that risk. Just like rental car companies have bad experiences, Turo can at times too.

I am an All-star host, and that is a really good video. I was happy to learn the process that the guests go through to book a car.
Great info! After logging in and selecting your dates does the price shown include insurance costs?
Thanks! It will show you what protection plan was selected, in my case it has defaulted to the minimum. It is itemized right before you book.
Hi, great video. I’m thinking of using Turo to rent a car next year. I noticed the prices exclude taxes & fees. How much extra is this?
It is dependent on the state in which you book, as well as other fees that Turo may charge depending on trip length, age of the guest, and other factors. You ultimately see all charges that will apply to your booking before you confirm.

Impressive video!
Do you always decline the insurance? Seems risky or does the car insurance we already have cover it? If not what is the best value to get?
You would have to check with your personal insurance to see if they cover rentals. But in the past, I have always kept the protection plan.
@@atchoorentals thanks I did and they suggested the $500 deduction option 👍
Hi! Did the host leave the key somewhere? How were you able to access the car? Same for drop off, where did you leave the keys? Thanks!
The car was unlocked remotely once I arrived and he locked it when we left 👍🏼
Good informative video, thank you. God bless you.👍✌❤
This will be my first time using Turo. How many pictures should I take before and after the trip?
You want to document anything on the car that you don’t want to be held responsible for. So for instance, dents, scratches, fuel level, etc.. when you return the car, you will want to document the condition of it when you return it as well as mileage and fuel level.
How does the insurance work do i have to use my insurance or is the car already covered?
Turo offers protection plans up to a certain amount maximum out of your pocket. Should you choose to use it. The plan you decide to pick shows up in the confirmation screen. Some personal insurance companies do protect you, but you will want to check with your insurance company to see if they do cover.

@@fancifemarie1770Thank you! 👏
Hello brother did you have to pay security deposit as it didn’t say on your checkout?
Sometimes you do depending on the situation and car. If you are required to pay one, it’ll appear on that screen before confirming.
This is probably a weird question, but is the insurance money. Is it refundable or no?
Once you decide to get trip protection, it is not refundable.
How do u get the key?

I believe there are some options where you can reserve without paying on certain circumstances, but you do have to pay for the vehicle before picking it up.

How do you get the keys for the car
Depends on the type of pick up. Sometimes a host gives you the keys, sometimes you will open by lock box, and sometimes the host unlocks remotely.
Hey 👋🏻
Can I pay with a Visa debit card with a poor credit?
Yes! You can absolutely pay with a debit card.
How did you get into the car?
This was quite a while ago, but I believe the car was remotely unlocked.
Does the amount appears for the car in turo app only need to pay. What about insurance
You will see a final total at the very end, and that is the only amount you need to pay unless you have intentions on extending or needing to change locations or extras. They offer varying levels of protection, which is explained in the video as well.
Do u need a credit card for a hold amount or just a debit card for the total amount?
There are options to pay later, depending on when your trip is, or you can use a credit or debit card as well.
Can i use a chime card
Since it is considered a debit card, I don’t believe it should be an issue. They accept all major credit cards, so if it is a MasterCard or Visa or something of that nature, then that should not be an issue.
So when picking up the car, is the car left unlocked and the keys are in the center console how does that work?
It depends on the rental, you can have a lock box on the outside with the car locked and the host provides you a code, the car may be unlocked remotely or you may meet the host directly. They usually will tell you which process they use!
I’m 18 with my drivers license can I book car on Turo ?
Certainly go to sign up! I believe you would likely be charged a young driver fee if booking a car but certainly see if it is worth it!
Can you do like doordash to ?
They now allow gig workers such as DoorDash!
Do you have to have your driving license present?
You do need it to first be verified and then you may get asked for it again just before your trip begins, either by host verification in person or through the app if a contactless pickup.
So you don’t need renters insurance to rent the car?? It’s just like Airbnb basically???
They offer trip protection that you can purchase which would be like insurance for the car during the rental.
Do u have to pay a security deposit for them or naw
I saw some owners need a deposit and some don't need a deposit.
That is correct. It is dependent on the vehicle, typically, and if there is any required, it will explain it to you before you reserve the car.
My problem with that I wanna drop off different location than originally picked up ?????????????
There are some hosts that offer one-way trips. Check the extras when you scroll to the bottom and see if “one-way trip” is an option!
Can I use a debit card?
Yes you can!
How did u get the he keys
This one was remote unlocked I believe, but every car is different depending on what is offered.
Thanks for the information. I'm very private, can I use a pic of my ss?
If you are asking to use a different item to replace your license, you cannot. It is against Turo’s policy to do so.
Is there a deposit for rental
There can be, depending on the type of car and other factors. If there is a deposit that is to be paid, you will see it on the final confirmation screen before you are charged. It will also tell you that it is refundable.
i’m unable to book a car on on turo it says unable to book contact support
You know someone with a mustang in Miami to rent on Turo?
I don’t, I’m sorry!
Im looking to do this for prom
We have a lot of people that want to use the cars for prom! The biggest thing is, an approved driver has to be the one to drive the vehicle. So if a parent is booking for the child, then the parent has to drive the vehicle unless the child is approved to drive by Turo.
@@atchoorentals is there a 6 months requirement you need for your licensee or something as a 18 yrl to rent it on Turo
In the case of the mercedes, how does the host know the guest in fact puts premium gas? Putting regular gas can slowly kill an engine.
Take picture of fuel receipt 🤷🏽♂️
As mentioned, fuel receipts are the only way of proving. Otherwise, you do risk them putting the wrong gas in the car.
So I’m leaving for a trip after my 21st birthday but I won’t have my actual id cause it’s getting sent through mail are they gonna let me rent ?
In those situations, I'd submit everything to Turo and see if they approve you as a driver. If you already are, I'd suggest contacting Turo support and explaining the situation so you'll know what needs to be communicated to the host once you book a car.
Am I charged at the moment of booking ?
Your payment method is charged right away, but it is 100% refundable until 24 hours or less before the trip starts.
Do you need your own insurance and abank account to rent the car ???
You need a credit or debit card, and you can either select the trip protection from Turo or see if your auto insurance covers Turo rentals.
@atchoorentals so I don't own a car right now so no insurance or anything would I still be able to rent a car from turo ?
Yes! You will simply choose the protection plan that is best for your budget, should anything happen to the car. Either the $0 out of pocket, $3000 or the full value of the car.
@atchoorentals and security deposit are normally what ?
It just depends on the type of car you are booking so it is difficult to say a specific number.
From the thumbnail I thought you were going to explain the process using the app.... 😔
The app is the exact same process. This allows you to see a larger screen.
can you get a rental on turo if your 21
Yes you can! You may be charged a young driver fee but that is able to be viewed before booking the car.
did you pay cash yor car rental
No, credit or debit card only.
unable to boook on this app says contact support? wht should i do
I would give Turo support a call! They should be able to help with whatever issue you are running into.
Broken cars in florida Twixe also the hosts never answered be CAREFUL!!!!
This is why I always stress looking at the reviews. This can happen, but with the research you can minimize that risk. Just like rental car companies have bad experiences, Turo can at times too.
This is to much and it ends yo being expensive annoying
I encourage you to keep looking around at other cars to find the best one! Some will charge more than others.
