    Well done, nice and simple and clear instructions. It's always good to watch a job first before doing it your self.

    Thanks for this. I'll give mine a go tomorrow after doing the D&Ps noticed my CV was knocking. Looks simple to remove and change the outer cv on the bench. Save me a few bob over the garage!

    Excellent video Crispy! When my old T5's MOT expired I SORN'd it as it had a LOT of issues as I put it through a 'pre MOT' (lower susp ball joints, brakes squealing, handbrake, steering rack play etc) So whist i have her with all 4 wheels off the ground on axle stands - I have decided on a complete overhaul/ replacement of all parts as the steering, drive, brakes are VITALLY important. Checking over everything once the wheels were off and I pressure washed all the crud off. I discovered the caliper pistons badly corroded and sticking ( my old girl has done 240,000 hard miles) so Ive got repair kits for both of those, respraying the calipers with UHT paint. Uprating the discs to slotted drilled ones. I noticed the CV boot on the offside is split so off it comes! Also wire brushing the subframe and using rust converter followed by hammerite.

      Glad I've helped, and help keep another one on the road, check out couple of the other videos two are rebuilding brakes, rears and fronts are similar design to the T5 (mk4 golf)
      This time of the year is far better to do stuff like this than in winter!
      Your bang on, brakes are the most important part of driving fast and safe
      Good luck 👍👍

    Cheers for this video. Spent a while looking for one that describes this job well and this is perfect. I was a bit nervous to try it as I'm just learning as I go but this helps a lot, only question I have is what kind of grease should we use inside the boot on the CV joint?

    • @CrispysProjects
      @CrispysProjects  4 года назад

      Thanks for the comment, I'm so glad it's helped you, and best way of learning 👍👍
      It's referred to as CV grease or Constant Velocity grease, you should get a sachet in a with the CV boot kit. It's a grease with graphite or similar in, try not to get the old one on your clothes!!!

  • @vwtransportersandmotorcycl3729

    I know it’s cheapest option but very surprised to see you changing the boot and not the whole shaft, especially as the shaft and stub shaft are know for wearing and loosing drive

    Hi Crispy, I did the CV Inner boot on my t5 1.9 tdi with axb engine - using your video as a guide. Thank you.
    Am not sure how that centre support bearing comes off the shaft if I want to replace said bearing.
    Any tips? Is it a slide fit? Is it a press fit? I imagine a slide fit, but with some rust adhesion.
    I guess one is meant to slide some sort of thin wedge between the bearing's casing and the housing of the inner cv joint to get it to move. Regards, Phil

      I'm glad it helped, I don't 100% have the answer to the bearing support as I've not done one but would like to now I've looked into it, found the parts available www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/7h0407181 which is an OEM part number I've found *if* its correct. I would guess the correct way to replace it would be press it on/off (or cut it off & carefully knock it on fully supporting the inner race after cleaning the shaft of rust)
      you've got me thinking! I'll be doing a video on AutoDoc in the future, but will if anyone buys via the app using coupon AC24679507 you should get £3 off

      @@CrispysProjects Thanks Crispy. Yes I found that OEM number also. It looks an affordable part at around 15 Pounds. The M8 holding bolts also challenged me - they are gal' coated but have been sitting in electro' corroding alloy for 15 years. Torque carefully as I tried, one of the two bolts did not firm up at 40 nM (the bottom reading of my wrench). So I'll consider a helicoil Stainless steel insert, and hope to get away from alloy related corrosion.

    Hi Crispy, great video just a few questions
    ,can you fit the top boot without taking driveshaft out and are they the same boots top an bottom thanks

    • @CrispysProjects
      @CrispysProjects  3 года назад

      Hi Leon, Thanks for watching. You could do the outer boot without taking the shaft of, but it's very little more work in general to take the whole shaft off, in this T5 couple M8's. When it comes to getting the joint off I've found it easier. The inner and outer boots are different sizes on mine
      Good luck 👍

    I have T5 axb 1.9 tdi. Noticed your comment about jacking and sub-frame. Is the sub-frame seen when the under-engine plastic pan is removed, strong enough to provide a single central jacking point? When the plastic pan is fitted, I can't see much.

    • @CrispysProjects
      @CrispysProjects  3 года назад

      Thanks for the question Phil, yes the undertray would have to be removed if you had one, subframe is a very solid structure of the vehicle and ideal for supporting an axle stand and lifting with a trolley jack, care should always be taken jacking anything, and checked throughout the lift. Take care 👍

    I'm doing this on the left hand driveshaft, it's the inner boot that needs replacing. To remove the driveshaft do I just undo the 6 spline boots around driveshaft at the engine end? And to replace the inner boot do I need to knock the wheel end CV joint off at you did in this video? Otherwise the rest is the same?

    • @CrispysProjects
      @CrispysProjects  4 года назад

      Yes just the ring of 6 splines, outer the same way. You just have to do the inner, which should have a little circlip on the end of the shaft - remove it and should come off - check the boot kit has a new clip for reference. I have a similar shaft in this video about 14 mins in ruclips.net/video/gh0wdzimz8c/видео.html
      you get a glimpse of a stripped clean unit but nothing getting build up
      Good Luck and feel free to check out any links in the descriptions
