Great video!!! The student has become the teacher!! One point the chain could possibly be the weaker link at 6600 wll if it’s a grade 70 3/8s chain! Plus no need for the rear tag if the trailer is under 34,000 on the tandems on the ground!!
Now DOT Bear knows this and he most likely looks for it, different grades of chain has different ratings from a grade 30 3/8" chain with a rating of 2650 to a grade 120 3/8" with a working load limit of 10'600 lbs. I have seen it in the years I did both firefighting and truck driving. I brought it to the attention of a DOT Bear at one accident. The truck. Had a mix of grade 70 transport chain and grade 43 and 30 chains. The driver did not survive the accident as a steel coil loaded suicide had permanently removed him from the gene pool. Luckily the car he hit was nocked clear. His employer denied knowing at the scene but the DOT Bears friends made a point to stop all the his employers trucks in the area to see if they had similar issues. I don't know what happened past that I do know the employer was issued tickets on those illegal chains. The law states chains has to be at least grade 70 or better for transportation use.
hi, Mike here is a funny story. I worked at a truck stop many moons ago. I saw a flatbed operator with an empty trailer BUT he had 1 Toy TONKA dump truck strapped down like a real truck. Made me laugh out loud.
@@alwayshungry24 There are actually more than 1 flatbed operator that taken up that humorous habit. I know somebody had to be the first, but I have seen 3 different truckers pulling that stunt over the last 15 years, Still gets a smile.
Hey everybody. One thing I didn't explain very well, the weight on the axles that matters is the gross weight. The weight of the load itself isn't necessarily that important, but something I like to know for frame a reference for future trips. Whenever I don't have scales available based on the weight of what I'm supposed to be hauling. Hopefully that all makes Sense! Appreciate you guys watching. We'll catch you on the next one.
Don’t worry about it because if it looks heavy there is some guys (mostly in a suv ) driving around with a set of portable scales and they will tell u how much is on each axle.
Oh yeah that makes total sense! 🤣. Don't feel bad, I have a brother thats a paramedic fireman and he works for my company sometimes also. Can't understand him half the time either when he explains stuff, takes a special person with dynamic brain power to do that job. Beautiful job 👏

Great video, and I learned something! Didn't realize the 50% deduct on the chains with equipment! And, hey, got a tip! I'm 67 and never saw the need to have a leaf blower in my life. Well, one day I was in my Stihl Dealer and he had the leaf blower on sale for $130, and I bought it! Wow, does it make clean up a breeze. You could clean that trailer off in seconds, gravel and all. I couldn't believe how much work it saves me. Like when I put hay in the barn. Used to push my arms off with the broom to clean out all the hay chaff. Now, I done in a matter of minutes. Also, love your arched bridge!
I've played a little bit making YT videos and, man, my hats off to you guys. How you are able to get stuff done and make good content at the same time is a mystery to me.. lol. Old tyre tube make good for putting under chains or angle carted a lot of concrete panels for new buildings and they would not let you out of the yards if nothing under the chains even bits of carpet work ok but does not last long
A section of 2" PVC pipe bolted to the neck with a rubber strap attached would keep you from getting an unsecured load fine for the new broom. Or bolt the pvc above the tridum.
If I don't oversee something, is the thing with the only half allowed load on the chains pretty simple, if you tie down a pallet, you connect the chain at two points to the trailer, so if it physically holds as example 5000 (without security factors) 5000 left plus 5000 right are 10000 holding force, if you make a single connection to a tie down point of an excavator, there is only one physically connection, so only 5000 holding force. If it goes from the Trailer over the tracks, to the trailer, it's like the palette and will hold 10000. (In my opinion it would make more sense to rate the chain at the physically stability, so no one could use to less, as by rating it for two connections by default.)
Hard to believe that some choose to hunt on others land without permission. Even worse seeing the purple paint and still ignoring it. Exhaust pipe was rotted out anyway. Good one

please try to do more filming of the suspension and axles with the camera in between the frame or in other places looking at the brakes etc ..., you did this in a couple of old vids , those shots where great!
Just a guess, equipment can move on its suspension and become a partially dynamic load so the 50% de-rating protects against temporarily higher forces.
Ha ha, my former boss was loading the dump truck with debris to be hauled off once and loaded it to what I thought was too heavy just based on how it looked. I got the "it'll be alright, it's not too heavy" comment. 20 mins later, I had to call him and tell him that I was sitting on the side of the road with a DOT guy discussing that in fact it was too heavy. I’m guessing that the Amish guy might not appreciate his picture being posted up. 😂 wishing you and your family the best and a Merry Christmas.
Hi Mike. One thing you may not thought of or at least did not mention and that was the weight of fuel. At what level were the tanks? Diesel weighs just over 7 pounds per gallon. It could make a difference. Have good days!
If you are that close on weight then you should probably throw in a small percentage for error anyway. (plus or minus a half tank of fuel at say 3-400 pounds?) He did joke about leaving room to eat lunch.
You should have hid the loader on Mike and told him that you parked it by the sand pile and it just sank into the ground. Then show him the exhaust pipe sticking out of the sand! 🤣🤣🤣
@7:03 ... Yeah I know what you mean. it's like a septic tank positive displacement system, it fills up with shit and then you put more shit in ... so some shit has to go .... or it all backs up.

I need to haul bin blocks for a retaining wall at my place. I'm going to use my M1083 6x6 and M1082 trailer, that way I can carry it offroad right up to where the wall will be. It may not be exactly legal on the road though.
I'd love to see Mr hoovers thoughts on your hook placement ,I would have used the d rings ,but that's just me . Seen to many hooks fail when used in your manner
The 50% is for movement of load shock comon with vehicles .if the binder is good for 9600 lbs and the chain is 6500lbs what grades 70 your working weight limit is 6500lbs
Remind me to not buy your lunch if your eating enough to overload your axle weights!!!!!!😆. All kidding aside good vid, better safe than sorry on the weights, I have witnessed some tickets issued because one guy tells another he is alright on his axles and overall weight, makes for some hard feelings at times, also nice to see the process of weighing out to. I was in the same boat at one time with hunters and I ended up posting the land and if there were any questions about it to contact the owner, and by accident a poacher was caught because of it, he was crossing my property to get into an area he was hunting because it allowed access without being seen. The DNR and I became friends that day. And yes I allowed 2 guys to hunt the property in the end as a barter system, they had professions and skill sets I did not have so it worked out, did I mention one was a county sheriff deputy and the other was an attorney. Thanks for the vid.
It may be different in Indiana, but to my knowledge you don't need the tag axle unless your trailer is over 34k. That's how it works here anyway, might be able to save some fuel and more importantly tire wear
"Its Awkward, its Real, It's Me! Nice new tag line there Bud! (Does anyone else twitch when the the guys call the clearly NON cubical hunks of concrete"cubes"? Just askin!) )
If that hook was an extension cord or air line, it would have snagged every time. But being that you wanted it to get hooked on something, it never happens that easy.😜 I could pull a chain across an empty parking lot and it would get stuck in a crack, but wanting it to hook on something in a scrap pile, it would never touch a thing. Just the laws of nature.😂😂
Yep, a plumber friend of mine once said "If I fall off a tall building I hope I have an extension cord in my hand because I know it will hang on something."
To prevent the unwanted hunter from being on your land perhaps you could get some purple paint. I heard somewhere that purple paint means 🚫 NO HUNTING 🚫 😂🤣
A year later - is your man still visiting Mike? I'm thinking a remote camera with sound at the bridge. When you're alerted to his presence, just ask what he wants? Be sure to keep the footage though because watching his reaction would make great video 😉
Wow, that was different. This video just popped up out of nowhere, and i enjoyed it. I do have some big questions though... Q 1 part 1: Did the new broom come with a user's guide/manual? Q 1 part 2: If it did, did you read it? Q 2: Do you have an "Operators Licence", or at least an "Operators Certificate of Competence" to legally use a broom/brush?
On the "detach" trailer, why don't you reverse the hydraulic hoses at the valves so up function is up, and down is down. Al thou, by now, backwards is normal.
Between you, Mike and the rest of his crew of misfits and Chris Letsdig18 you guys could easily open an academy for Construction equipment operators and train all of the next generation of those needed in rebuilding America's aging infrastructure all by yourselves with your awesome videos. Keep 'em commin' Captain.

Enjoyed the video Cap,
Thank you!
Great video Mike, Really enjoy your videos.
Thanks Andy!
Quite nice vid with a lot of information. Well done.
Thanks for watching!
The 50% is for movement of load shock comon with vehicles .if the binder is good for 9600 lbs and the chain is 6500lbs what grades 70 your working weight limit is 6500lbs
Grade 70 3/8 is 6'600 WLL
You seem to enjoy your work another great video
Thanks for watching!
It may be different in Indiana, but to my knowledge you don't need the tag axle unless your trailer is over 34k. That's how it works here anyway, might be able to save some fuel and more importantly tire wear
It's the same here, but if a fella has it and is close to the line, might as well.
@@CaptainKleeman very true
sure miss the old ponderosa but then bill /daves pick up the slack when i come to town you are not overloaded untill you get caught
Nice fishing with that loader and chain
Hey thanks!
"Its Awkward, its Real, It's Me! Nice new tag line there Bud! (Does anyone else twitch when the the guys call the clearly NON cubical hunks of concrete"cubes"? Just askin!) )
😂😂 would look good on a shirt
Christmas gift list: Empty box for your cat and a broom for Kleeman ?
Are you related to Mike? I enjoy watching you both! Ron...
I am not. Thanks for watching!
What are you using to tow the trailer with thanks from Australia
If that hook was an extension cord or air line, it would have snagged every time. But being that you wanted it to get hooked on something, it never happens that easy.😜 I could pull a chain across an empty parking lot and it would get stuck in a crack, but wanting it to hook on something in a scrap pile, it would never touch a thing. Just the laws of nature.😂😂
Oh for sure, the trick to hooking something is try to keep it from hooking 😂😂
Yep, a plumber friend of mine once said "If I fall off a tall building I hope I have an extension cord in my hand because I know it will hang on something."
To prevent the unwanted hunter from being on your land perhaps you could get some purple paint.
I heard somewhere that purple paint means
🚫 NO HUNTING 🚫
😂🤣
Now where did ya hear a thing like that,. Well it definitely sounds fool proof
@@CaptainKleeman
Foolproof?
Oh no. Someone is going to take that as a challenge.
A year later - is your man still visiting Mike?
I'm thinking a remote camera with sound at the bridge. When you're alerted to his presence, just ask what he wants?
Be sure to keep the footage though because watching his reaction would make great video 😉
Boy did blow up DP head when you told him he was right lol great video.
😂😂
Wow, that was different. This video just popped up out of nowhere, and i enjoyed it. I do have some big questions though...
Q 1 part 1: Did the new broom come with a user's guide/manual?
Q 1 part 2: If it did, did you read it?
Q 2: Do you have an "Operators Licence", or at least an "Operators Certificate of Competence" to legally use a broom/brush?
Yes yes and yes
@@CaptainKleeman Thank you for answering these impotent questions.
New subscriber :-)
I don't know why you can't use a 8in straps with a block behind them the work pretty good too
You can use anything you want as long as it meets the WLL required and has proper edge protection. But those chains make me feel better
Tell my perfect
It fall time to seal all wood on trailers before winter to slow the rotting process
Hey captain great video.is that old timer live in the forest like Mick Dodge .🤔✌️😎👍👌🇺🇲
Thanks for watching Ken!
Mike with a mic?
Regarding the hold-downs, just remember “nothing exceeds like excess". Cheap insurance.
Very true
On the "detach" trailer, why don't you reverse the hydraulic hoses at the valves so up function is up, and down is down. Al thou, by now, backwards is normal.
Yeah,. I'm in a routine now
How many brooms have you worn out?
beautiful video great job too one day I hope to be as good as you
Bud I bet you already are
Interesting video, you are one of a kind kudos, keep doing what your doing 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thank you Tom!
Thanks for the kind words
