I'm 100% with Kevin. If he didn't want to play for Ireland he should never have taken a senior cap. Friendly or not, he should have said no.
Kevin was always a honourable guy to be fair too him
110 caps👏👏👏
Kevin Outraged englishman want to be play for england. I guess ferguson is English then not Irish cos his mums English
Kev is 100% right
Unfair to mention Mark Noble. Never considered playing for Ireland and made it known an Irishman should wear the jersey
Correct i respect Nobel but as for Rice he did the opposite.not nice the whole fanbase love him MOTM in his 3 games.he has been turned by money which is sad
Gerard Fitzgerald or he just wants to play for the country he was born and bred in, rather than one he’s never even lived in
Kilbane's book gives a great insight into his personality. Good guy. Probably the only guy who turned down England for Ireland. Sadlier is just a troll.
deejaycoral8 he was called up for england at underage but turned it down when he was at preston i think big sam was his manager then
Jason McAteer turned down England for Ireland shortly before 94, and he was called up to the senior side......Said when he got the call he just couldn't do it because he didn't feel english enough.
@deejaycoral8 what have England achieved
irishnewblood David Kelly and Lee Carsley turned down underage football for England as well.
irishnewblood No way was Mcateer called up for England!. On top of that he was one of the biggest cowards i ever saw pro football.
Podcast Wars: Second Captains vs. Off The Ball. Love it!!
Fair play to Mr Kilbane. I am in agreeance with him on this one and it is great to hear his passion on playing for Ireland.
Ray Houghton was approached by Jack and his first reaction was "Give me a couple of days to think about it" An Irish person would have said yes in a flash. So according to KK he shouldn't have played for Ireland.
100% Respect to Kevin Kilbane.
Aye the englishman born and bred never lived 1 day in Ireland in his life 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kilbane is a legend!
Rice might think the grass is greener on the other side but the jersey certainly isnt
No but the team is better
Such bollocks by Kilbane, did Rice contact the IFA when he was a teenager and asked for his call up? no, he got scouted by the Irish as a kid, was told he qualifies from his grandfather, he turns 19/20 shows a lot of promise and is looking England worthy, might not have happened before but Ireland created this problem for themselves.
New found respect for kilbane he's spot on here you can't pick and choose your nationality
Only Cascarino...
@Slotty Girl how many Africans and north Americans play or have played for England, guess you don't want sterling as a member of the English team
+deejaycoral8 what I mean is you can't pick one day to be Irish then another day choose to be English you're either one or the other
+Wilhelm Henderson yes the American government is full of them. They pretend they're loyal to America but really put Israels interests first, so it leads to nothing but trouble.
+ShiftCtrl85 Israel are the terrorists. You are terribly misinformed
Kevin is 100% right. If you have any uncertainty then don't play for Ireland. The sort who slag off Kevin are the same sort who think a Nigerian is more Irish than him.
Dead right kevin agree with u wholeheartedly a credit to your country and a true irish ledgend always one of the few players who played better at international level than club level true pro
Fair play keV...they called us plastic paddys for years...it's just our tongue that's English...the rest is 100% Irish....
Wasn't John Barnes born in Jamaica?
Terry Butcher born in Hong Kong?
I bet it made your family proud putting on the green jersey...thanks for your loyalty lad😁
The best Irish supporters down the years have always been the Irish in England and RESPECT to that.
Their beloved darling raheem sterling was born in Jamaica
muskymcg 100% Irish, yet choosing not to live there. Nice one. 🤣
In fairness Kev i seriously appreciate the honesty. And im starting to agree with you more now. Someone like Liam Lawrence yeah i fully agree i dont want it.
It was Matt Holland who sang the English Anthem
Roy Keane has it in his book. It was Matt Holland. Belting out God save the queen.
Good debate
Two smashing honest footballers
Kevin k. Is 100% right on this
How come no one ever seems to question Irish born players commitment?
Stephen Ireland...no pun intended 😂
Totally agree with Kevin my family came over for work same time as his we had to literally fight to show people we were proud of being Irish
I'm the same as kevin, we were not loved by the English in the 60s and 70s growing up in England having an irish name. I love Ireland and would only play for them , regardless of being born here.
My name is Irish and I have Irish grandparents so that's bollocks. I've never felt connected to Ireland and I've never seen any annomosity towards my grandparents
@@andrewjoyce9038 well I'd say we're all glad about that, that you don't feel connected ti Ireland.
Kilbane,Breen grew up supporting Ireland, fair enough. If you didn't support Ireland growing up, then of course you shouldn't play for them.
exactly cause hes irish cant pick an choose
Can't understand how richie sadliers opinions are even cared about and how he is a tv pundit to comment on players when he's never even played pl football. Fair play to kilbane
Super kev great player and servant for Ireland
The only problem is you cannot compare the life experiences from someone in he past to someone in the present, when making a decision for the now. Kevin even eludes to this without even realizing it. Make the rule if you play 1 match at the senior level you are barred from playing for another country. Keep it simple. Every national team should have to play by that rule. This would eliminate being used as a stepping stone or a last resort like Ireland has been or how their supporters feel they have been treated as. Kilbane's affection for the Ireland shirt is commendable.
Well said our very own Zinedine Kilbane Legend
ha ha
Good man Kevin
Love Kev...
Agree with kevin 100 percent socail media can be so mad
I remember paddy doing my mums road still tried to bill her for a roof
class kevin
kev is right ,i was born in manchester of irish parents ,would have played for ireland if iwas any good i'm not english ,i'm irish .declan rice as a proud englishman should have refused to play for ireland at junior level ,if he is a proud englishman
yes he should i wouldnt like to be depending on him when the chips are down
Terrible to hear that Kevin gt stick about being born in England. He was one of the most committed players we've ever had. Always gave 100% and in every match he could. And for that, I put him second only to McGrath in my favourite players list.
agreed, turned up to play for Ireland at Mickey Mouse tournaments and friendlies after long seasons, no problem
Kilbane dripping about English players of Irish heritage, playing for English clubs being lined up for England? What a Berk!
Largejanner Kernow Gary Breen is right his father and many more like him build this country but very proud. People and if there son want to play for Ireland great. When you play one full international that it your choice. Is done. No going back belive you me money won't buy repect
Largejanner Kernow of course. There is England so lack of good. Players 30 years ago they would chase most of them being half irish but when you are stuck you take anybody
Richie scored in a UEFA U-18 third place playoff.
Thing is though, Rice is English and only has an Irish Nan. Therefore he is English and was pushed to play for Ireland at youth level.
SavageArfad Houghton = 🐐 in Ireland for his goals, but at the end of the day he was Scottish and pushed to play for Ireland.
he wasn't pushed to play for Ireland,Scotland never wanted him until Ireland called him up. Andy Roxborough tried to get him to switch back after Ireland called him up,but he refused because he'd accepted Jack Charlton's offer.
Fletch 13 fair play mate, didn’t know that.
Stat crux dum volvitur orbis good point, but still could end up playing for Ireland as it is
Ireland should produce its own players. If you’re born in England or Scotland, and learned your football there, you should not play for Ireland. Now this is not absolute, nothing in life is. Kilbane is an exception.
Just to play devils advocate. If I was good enough to play professional football I could represent England or Wales.I would feel equally proud representing either. However I would try and play for the country that would allow me to play at the highest level. But if I couldn’t I would still want to play for the other. I can see things the financial/level of football being the only thing separating two countries you love.
if ur irish u cant love england its not england an wales the english persecuted us so unless ur irish u woundnt know
Wait for it...you lot are going to love this...the BBC just reported that Declan Rice has won Ireland's Young Player of the Year Award! 🤣 Apparently he won't be in Dublin to accept it. Perhaps his Dad will go in his place? 😂 I think I just heard Kev's head explode with anger!i
Kilbane - Legend
Feck me you've only godda have watched a Guinness advert to play for that lot
over the water...you know, themuns.....lol, good man Kevin.
Kevin 100% legit
Off the ball, is a radio show, you might get copy righted or what ever bollocks. You must have known that cause half your players play/played in the spfl.
Was never a Kilbane fan and how hes our most capped outfield player! But i'd take his point on this. If hes played all the way underage and now is thinking about switching, then off you go. Deluded young fella if he thinks he'll get a game for England. Not that they're any good either!
I agree he took the best years out of duff cause McCarthy had some crazy loyalty to him Duff was pushed up alongside keane in 2002 to compensate kilbane in team. A chap that would push the ball ahead of him and run after it no skill whatsoever. Kevin comes across as a good bloke but ill never forget those years duff was wasted
How the fxxx he missed following up Ian Harte’s peno against Spain is beyond me !!! Shinned the fxxx out of it !!
Most consecutive caps for Ireland Kilbane that's comitment
Bit weird Kevin saying all this with a North West English accent
Clinton morrison drank Guinness hes only link to ireland nice lad though
Clinton had an irish Grandparent. Tony Cascarino had no Irish blood whatsoever.
@@mediacenterman8583
Tony Did have a strong connection to The Irish Republic tho,
His adopted family were from the Irish Republic and he travels on a ROI passport.
So basically everytime Kilbane says "im having it" what he really is saying is ""absolute bollocks" lol
Be proud of your Culture, coz it’s all under attack.
u said it. how true
Rice has behaved appallinly but no ones ballsy enough to say that. You shouldnt even get 1 cap you are in or out
What a passion.....legend
Would Paul mcgrath not be a little more deserving of a jersey stuck on the wall in the back round?
Roy might not be the best example of an eticalplayer. However that's OTB for you
Keith keeps interrupting. Bad interviewer. Loves himself.
Agree with Kevin
so if a dog is born in a henhouse does it make it a chicken always loved kilbanes commitment
The Irish team. We are still trying to scrape a few plastic paddies & make a team. Instead of investing money into grass roots football & creating a better youth development program. Rice is English let him play for England he isn't Harry Kane he is an average player.
Then again, would Ireland have qualified for 3 World Cups and European tournaments if it wasn't for English born players and non-Irish born managers who represented Ireland?
declan rice could've been a legend for ireland- team captain etc, but he would rather take the chance of getting 3 minutes in the beautiful white shirt of england
Kilbane is king
Ireland should improve their own leaugue's, relying on Irish kids coming through with foreign teams will always be probmatic.
Or in the case of Declan Rice, an English player with Irish heritage playing for an English club.
No one should play for Ireland ever if they don’t feel Irish. How DARE the FAI and the managers choose such players!!! I was too young in 1988 to realise, but it wasn’t right. Let’s just come dead last but in doing so feel like we suck AS AN IRISH TEAM. That goes for Rugby too!!!
i would encourage people watching this football podcast to boycott it because of its barefaced support of gambling sponsorship...we all know people who are, or will find out that a friend or loved one who is involved and up to their eyes in debt because of gambling. it is a scourge in this society and it is sad that a popular podcast with a lot of influence in sport circles is promoting such a business. shame on kevin kilbane on his promotion of this game
Theres only one Zinedine Kilbane
Kibane. Good strong Mayo roots! A credit to Ireland and to the Irish diaspora abroad.
Strawman,, that's awesome take me hat to you,,,,
meanwhile in germany football acadamies are producing the next Philip Lahms. Toni Kross, Manuel Neuers
Scarlett Chav o' Hara jaaaysus!!
Only Irishmen should play for Ireland
Kilbane mostly right, lot of passion. Fair play.
Richie Sadlier should be fired from RTE for dissin' an Irish hero. It's OK when Dunphy does it because he's a likeable personality. Sadlier has no personality.
sadlier is a clown its just for notice i think
kilbane is now an adopted Paddy
Kevin is a decent bloke but he needs the haircut and fashion police
I am from Canada but my heart and soul is with my Serbian roots. It may be hard for some people to understand but it's all about how you're raised and how you feel. Full support to Kilbane !
just because your born in a stable does not make you a horse
kilbane is dead right! it's all about the money, not a desire to play for either country!
kevin kilbane is english.
Kevin is Irish, his heart his blood get over it
He doesn't seem to identify as such.
KK born & raised in Preston in Lancashire. KK a true Irishman? Yeah right!
😂😂😂😂
Didn't mind taking the British pound note,
Kilbane wasn’t good enough to play for England so he decided to take the easy option and play for Ireland cos he was eligible
Cap
*Kilbane is 41, Rice is 19* U CAN'T COMPARE WHAT ITS LIKE GROWING UP IN THE 80s IN PRESTON TO THE 2000'S IN LONDON
Ritchie sadlier is a hun ,
Ireland haaa
Kilbane has a good IRISH accent....lol !!!!!!!
Pod off !!!!
It's easy for kilbane to say as he was nowhere near good enough to play for England!
Chris Lacey Rice is not gonna push anyone of that England squad
I dont know all the details but, he was offered England and turned it down, it was probably under age, but still, can't say it wasn't an option for him
Kilbane isn`t just very irish he`s anti British
Kilbane is English of Irish heritage.
Lols
TS May Listen pal, answer this. If you're born in a stable does that make you a horse?
No. He is Irish from England.
Ruairí Ó Sé Are you trying to say he's a donkey?
Cormac Finn This is the same logic that people apply to say Paul McGrath is African from Ireland.
Maybe the English were a bit upset because you were blowing them up with nail bombs left, right and centre. What do you think?
If you want to go down that route then Britain comes out of it looking very bad.
I think you should learn a thing or two about Irish history before you start shooting your mouth off.
@@greglyons2526 I know quite a bit about Irish history. What about my comment do you have a problem with and what's untrue about it?
I suppose they were but we were upset when unarmed people on a civil rights march were gunned down by so called professional soldiers it wouldnt have happened in England .ye stole our country and killed and abused our people. We could be a lot nastier to the English but its not our style
It's not the 70s or 80s any more. Sadlier is right. Kilbane is just getting up on his high horse here. Football is a professional sport and playing international football is a career move with all that entails.
It’s the clubs that pay your wages: International football represents something different.
Hes done the right thing, A young boy full of talent would be wasted in an Ireland team, Sorry but its true..... COYI
I have to disagree,he'd be the centre of an Irish team,he'll be a bit part player in the England set up.
