Chris Rattue is well known for his click bait headline grabbing attention seeking, as a NZer I have no respect for his opinions, and I know a lot of my countrymen feel the same, of course we can win the cup next year, but so can 4-5 other teams if the cards fall right for them

Interesting you mentioned cards... We'll see how those debacles go and if world rugby can get those sorted so we don't see more like the French vs NZ series.

Sorry guys, this guy does not speak on behalf of everyone in New Zealand. He is entitled to his opinion thinking we will win the RWC19.. That is fine and all.. Of course the rest of New Zealand are 100% behind our boys to win next year, that’s a fact, but like all things, it will not be a walk in the park, for us to win, we would have to overcome and beat nations such as Ireland and South Africa.. It will probably end up being the closest tournament yet seeing as teams are evolving and playing better rugby than ever. Personally, I’d love to see us win again, but I will not join this man in saying “hand us the trophy now”.. Confident? Partially.. Comes off as a bit arrogant in the newspaper? Definitely.. That little headline does not mirror some and, if not, most of the AB fan base. It would be healthier leading into the cup being a lot more open minded to what ‘may’ or ‘could’ happen.. Regardless of the ABs, IRE should be proud of how far they’ve come, the guy isn’t wrong though, we are not known to be major supporters of England, Ireland on the other hand are a nation I’m sure most wouldn’t have a problem losing to and I was very happy for them to see them secure their first victory over NZ. They play tough, wear they’re hearts on their sleeves, and have one of the best halves combinations in the game that I do admire. They are a team I get behind when the ABs aren’t playing and give them as much chance winning the RWC next year as much as any other nation that shows up on the day.. Just look at the upset Japan put on Boks, and England not making it past the pool stages.. Never a walk in the park as this man suggests, the team that wins the match means they wanted the victory much more than the other and worked harder to secure it. On that note, do look forward to the next match up between IRE & NZ! Much respect! Apologies for the long comment. 👍🏽

Well said pal, respect for not thinking it's a foregone conclusion but i don't think anyone can think the All-Blacks are not the stand out team and will take something special to stop them, i watched them against Oz last week and they looked scary

Your spot on bro, this goose is now jumping on the "AB's are Great" train.....he's renowned for rubbishing the All Blacks and individuals within the team in his column of Stuff and Co, for example, Beauden Barrett, Sonny Bill Williams and even calling for Steve Hansen to step down.....who is he to be given this airtime anyway....can't stand him

Most ABs fans realise that being ranked #1 doesn't mean you don't get beaten in a knock out tournament. A large portion of the social media fans don't get that.

      @seanrota3359 6 лет назад +2

yeah bro agree with you on that, RWC 2019 will not be a walk in the park for the ABs. NZ will be viewed as arrogant with such comments and serve to motivate the other nations. I'm ABs hardcore, but am realistic like I think most kiwis, we are looking in good shape at present and building a large squad and depth to carry us through but should not be over confident

  • @deanw2847
    @deanw2847 6 лет назад +22

Humility is the force behind and within the All Black culture and rest assured Steve Hanson would not pay any attention to this ARROGANT! headline. I am a kiwi and New Zealand teams generally speaking (such as the All Blacks and Cricket team) are known for their humility and fair play. Chris Rattue is obviously not of the same ilk and has gained notoriety by using sensationalist headlines to feed his ego. Don't get me wrong we all have ego's but it is those who humble themselves knowing that life can turn in an instant reminding us control is only an illusion. The All Blacks are the favourites for the RWC19 that's obvious. But to say 'Just give us the world cup now' is disrespecting the other world class teams. The thing that makes this team great is their humility, looking at ways to improve, evolve and learn. If NZ media and supporters started to become arrogant and vocal then we would lose who we are and the greatness which is our heart The All Blacks.

Yeah that's when one is most blind to the possibility is when you can't "see" it. How many couldn't "see" Japan upsetting South Africa in the 2015 World Cup pool stage match? Anything is possible don't rule out anyone. The all blacks are good for this, remaining humble no matter who the opponent is. The fans should take a leaf out of their book and treat it the same way. All you need is the right day, right team and will to win and anything can happen. That is my worry is that this gap between the allblacks and the rest of world rugby is growing wider by the day, that one may just lose sight with their own growth. Always best to keep a close eye on your adversaries, the closer they are to you the better. Either way I'd love for them to win 3 World Cups back to back it would be something to behold, unreal. Bring on 2019.

The last 2 RWC victories by NZ had really close games, 2011 against France, As Graeme Henry famously said " we thrashed them by a point" and in 2015 we just squeaked past SA in the semis by 2 points. NZ are playing really well right now but last year showed against the lions where we drew the series, there are plenty of good teams and coaches about. I truly think it's wide open next year. Not only could one of the past winners take it, NZ, Australia, England, SA. But also France, Ireland, Wales or even Scotland. None of us really know, which is why they will play the tournament.

i don't think any sports team could have enjoyed such a sustained period of winning as the Abs have without their supporters becoming slightly arrogant, especially in a country like NZ, where rugby is almost a quasi-religion. it's not an arrogance that comes from thinking other teams are going to be easy, it's just an arrogance from looking at the ABs team announcements and going "god, that's a good line up."
everyone in NZ has not only respect for the Irish side as the most obvious threat for both the 2018 northern hemisphere tour and the 2019 world cup, but also likes the Irish team. it's never not enjoyable to see the english rugby team toppled from their perch. when ireland ended NZ's winning streak in chicago, most NZers were happy that at least it was to ireland.

I think also what Steve Hansen and the coaching staff are focusing on going into both the Super rugby championship and World Cup campaigns is to have at their disposal the complete depth of continual emerging high skilled players in key positions.Starting from the grassroots going right through to the high schools, national competition, super rugby and of course international test...And at the moment NZ has it all,not only in our Men's sector but also our Women's.Hense the dominance in both international arenas.Ireland at the moment have a great international men's test side and so to do a couple of so other countries, but to maintain a high level of standard and sustain that level not only in an eighty minute test but also a two weeks World Cup campaign is another thing and I really don't see at the moment any other country that has that calibre other than NZ.
That's why we're ranked by the IRB number one in both the Men's and Women's 15s and 7s rugby.

Hubris. Public pressure. Complacency. We could all be in for a unearned, but still delicious, Schadenfreude moment sometime in the next year. The eternal 'human' problem for which no doubt they have a 'plan'.
The way to beat the ABs is to outscore them by having more deception, more targetted speed, made possible by a team of players who can think accurately under the types of pressures that Rugby was designed to create. Get the opposition to run out of ideas and fold first with scoreboard pressure. To achieve this at this level the Rugby coach's main role is to generate unbreakable on-field leadership. As many potential captains as possible who are also team men.
Hint: Kick only in real desperation. To the ABs it is a sign that your side has given up.
Eddie Jones is exactly the opposite to a great Rugby coach. His way is THE way. A characterless clipboard martinet. His career strategy has been to to follow on the coat tails of others' hard work.
If Ireland do not have any tragic moments they have a great chance. But they will definitely reaffirm the fact that Rugby is the best game ever created on the way.

Obviously I wish this were true. If rankings were all that mattered you wouldn’t play the World Cup at all.
At the last Soccer World Cup the favorites got beaten and beaten well.
One of the reasons the All Blacks do so well over so long is that the All Blacks is that they always respect the opposition, and prepare accordingly. That’s why they don’t tend to lose games they shouldn’t lose. We learned a lot from the 2007 World Cup loss to France imo.

England, at Eddie Jones' mad behest, were put through the mincer two days prior to the Scotland match 2018, in an all day training session against Georgia. Then a knackered England were thrashed by Scotland. To avoid the obvious: Scotland were superb and fully deserved their win, but Eddie Jones crackpot ideas made that win almost inevitable.

If the ABs have any critical injuries they will struggle.
If Rettalick Whitelock and Reid were knocked out . . .

November in Dublin will test these young new zealanders - Dublin is a strong hold and Ireland havent lost at home in 2 years (ironicaly) since that ABs game. then theres the 6Ns and super rugby prior to the WC so.....theres are so many variables. as for slating England - i think that a bit unprofessional guys (not english myself - im Irish) but comon show a littel respect - the whole "i dont care" is very childish...

Kiwis have set the bar with a long time, but on a given day, they can be caught but a lot would have to go wrong for them and a lot would have to go right for other teams. Ireland are very good, but Wales, England, France, South African, Australia and Argentina could beat them on a given day, and New Zealand could beat them most days.
I cant believe how much people are blowing up Ireland chances. Yes this is our best team in a long time but have a look at the bookies and they are rarely wrong.
I think Ireland need to keep building the rugby base thru the Provinces and maybe within 10-15 years we could do it.
We have come along way in the last 20 years. I am old enough to remember the late 80s and 90s and where we came from. If we keep developing our player base then anything is possible.

Let's face it where you have a country specialising in just one football code they should be the best in the world, all other countries that field Union teams also have other football codes competing for talent and support eg in Australia Union comes a lowly third behind AFL and League which means that the best talent gravitates to those two codes leaving Union a very limited talent base. Look at the UK too. So in a world perspective NZ is becoming a bit too carried away with themselves, a reality check and a little bit of humility would not go astray.

not a Rattue fan. Goes for the clickbait too obviously. The ABs play a great brand of the game and there is a combination of coaching that encourages self expression and a bunch of wonderful talents about but rugby is not a game where you can be confident a year out. Besides our media has more or less been overtaken by the Australian ownership with baiting of other coaches and silly stuff that most New Zealanders do not like. Like any team we could loose a handful of tight forwards and suddenly become vulnerable but especially with Read as captain I expect a consistently matchwinning lineout. There are a bunch of super stars from Ben Smith, Beauden Barrett and Brodie Retallick and perhaps Sonny Bill and Dane Coles to come back. Do not agree with Rattue's assessment of 'old' players. The management have, as they did last RWC cycle, given their stars a chance to fix injuries and refresh, very well . Never seen a team that can takeover and just outpoint the other team, except maybe in great basketball individuals, and teams. Barrett is not the consistenly great goalkicker in a tight game as Carter or Farrell, or a number of others and I am not sure Read can lead a team through the Valley of Death like McCaw or Johnson in the past. Ireland the the likeliest contenders but I still favour a team that can rattle on the points, so perhaps the Aussies.

he's entitled to his opinion, and in HIS case, it's an educated one....but in a short tourney, once reaching the knock out phase..... in an 80 minute game...when the ref may not see it yer way, or a player gets sent off, an injury or a rash of them, or the bounce of da ball / 'rub o da green'...... NZ is the bookie's favourite for good reason, but the 'field' is a shorter price, so 'hand the trophy over now' is a dumb dumber dumbest kinda comment.

While it is always possible for the ABs to have a poor match and definitely a poor half, it is unlikely they have a poor 80 minutes and lose. Ireland has been on the rise since Joe Schmidt took over in 2013 and blooded all the young bulls - every test against New Zealand since has been super physical, fantastic rugby and close. its been a LONG time since the ABs gave Ireland a heavy beating and with the team Ireland have now that trend looks to continue. Ireland in 2 out of 3 tests actually dominated ABs in key areas especially at the breakdown. In fact , they (ireland) were the reason they lost due to both discipline in a couple of instances and not taking opportunities when they should have to close out the game. that has been Irelands achilles heel. on their day they can be magnificent and can beat anyone but it has been their lack of consistency and inability to close out a game clinicaly - too many close calls. But they seem to have ironed out a lot of them creases, so it will be interesting in Dublin in November - i personally cant wait. It is clearly no indicator for the WC but still - Steve Hansen even said the Ireland are the no 1 threat and have been for a few years! no 1 v no 2 in the world - New Zealand will be clearly looking to stamp their authority and downplay any talk of irish WC hopes and Ireland with a point to prove that they are REAL contenders and not just a tough passionate team to play and beat - looking to remain unbeaten at home and clain their 1st home scalp against the ABs...........man....its pure ....DRAMA :)

Ireland and england cannot beat the ABS in 2019.
ABS have an extraordinary squad with thé best players in every position and many Young talents.
And thé most important. The ABS have thé expérience and thé culture of victory.
And they have a great staff : Hansen. He won 2 world cup and he knows how win a world cup.
Definitively The ABS will win thé 3rd world cup after 2011 2015.

Just watched the All Blacks get beaten by South Africa a week after being pushed close by a great Argentinian effort. Perhaps Chris should pull things in a bit!

Lets not forget that Australia did beat the ABs 3 years ago. So it is possible. All the superlatives used are always in relation to the ABs history of winning in world sport. Which is running at approx 80%.NZ is unbelievable and devastating for 80 minutes of the game. Their attack play is otherworldly and execution nearly perfect. Plus there are players most have not heard of yet coming through the lower ranks. I believe the ABs will only lose on average 1 in 15 to 20 games. Their main winning factor is perseverance and innate faith in your teammates. Notice how they throw a ball anywhere ....and there is a player waiting. That backup and continuity only comes through years off habitual patterning which is embedded in their psyche and therefore psychological DNA. cheers

Allblacks can lose ... on any given day, Aussie, England and Ireland can beat them when they are off. And it’s not getting worse for world rugby ... France, england and Ireland have all stepped up even Argentina.

Lets face it is all about money and the allblacks vs Samoa Tonga or Fiji simply wouldn't draw the crowds.

@@grahamedge4349 the point I am talking about is that u label it they are the real champion. ....but the reality is this.....he is afraid of touring his brothers at the south seas in order to help them out....but he disguise it n remain in his comfort zone....if he is a real champion come out from comfort zones n play a test match with tonga..Samoa. .n Fiji on their home turf every year....if u win then I recognize u as a real champion. .....
