The Q45 differential is a 2.76:1. It requires some modification like the input flange needs to be swapped from a 6 bolt to the 4 bolt flange of the 350Z/G35. If you install a limited slip, you're limited to LSDs that are compatible with a 350Z automatic differential, which are more limited. Quaife has them. A LOT cheaper than swapping to a T56 Magnum XL (The Magnum XL because the shifter will line right up with the stock location on the Z/G.). Oh and get out the hammer. You'll need to massage some sheet metal to get the T56 in there.
For those that are curious, the CD00* transmission with the 3.54 rear end is similar to a T56 with 4.4(ish) gears. 1st gear unusable, 6th gear has you running a gas guzzling V8 at 2500 rpm at 70mph (I'm running 285x35xR19 tires). That 2.76:1 drops that to 1900 rpm at 70mph.
I had a lower horsepower aluminum block 5.3L built for a wider, but smooth power band because of the CD00* gearing. Honestly was seriously considering going with a 4.8L. Still rummages around in my brain that I should have. Of course I also think I should have put in the 2.76 diff. I wanted to run a Wavetrac LSD over the Quaife which seems like a silly thing to get stuck on. But, if predictability is a priority, either a T-56, 2.76:1 gears, or really smooth powerband.
Ultimately I wish differentials were easy to swap out. 2.76:1 for cruising around, then throw in a 3.54:1 for the track and just live in 3rd and 4th gear with a very predictable powerband.
Oh, and I'm incredibly jealous of your CAI. It looks like the LS3 manifold gives a lot more room between the TB and radiator. Looks to have a lot less throat and you got you motor back much further in your engine bay. I had to use a very tight bend 90 to clear my radiator with a FAST 92 intake. My LS2 intake had more room, but two of my bolt holes mushroomed on me and I couldn't get them torqued down. I'm using cathedral heads so an LS3 intake isn't doable for me. I also have tall valve covers and because of that to get my motor as far back as yours I'd have to remove sheet metal.
I think the most awesome thing about this entire thing is just the incredible nature of the 350Z/G35 (I swapped a G35) and how easy it is to work on and modify like this. It is so close to plug & play with all the aftermarket support for LS swapping these.

@@wade_debo There's not much I'd do different the second time around. All of the above I agonized over. Where I made my mistakes was mostly on the engine. As I look at your swap, going with a ls2 or ls3 block with square port heads and the LS3 intake manifold and valve covers looks like the best way to go, and stay away from ultra high lift cams and oversized rockers. Not really any information like that out there in the interwebz so I'm going to shout it from the highest mountain.

@@wade_debo Thanks. These are the conversations that need to be more easily found on the internet as people look into doing a project like this. There's a lot of rosy sunshine out there about how cheaply and easily it can be done. You are literally the first person I've seen openly say that 1st gear is useless with the CD00*, when the math clearly shows that 1st gear will be useless with that much low end torque and power. So, you definitely need more subs surrounding this project.

Cool build I am doing a build with similar intentions in a Mazda rx8. LS3, T56 magnum, ford 8.8 with 3.73 gears.
It really is impressive that the cd009 can take that kind of abuse! A t56 magnum was around $4500 CAD, but then you need to change your driveshaft, change the shifter, get a new clutch, get a bell housing etc definitely can add up

I would probably switch the rear end before anything for longer gear choice !

It's called a Can Bus Translator. Not only integrates the Tach, but also the OBD2 (Check Engine), and you can use the Nissan gas (throttle) pedal. You can use the stock wiring for your cooling fans and upgrade those, and your HVAC and ABS will work. I did use a GM E38 ECU for my swap though. I'm not sure how you'd integrate an aftermarket solution like Haltech, etc.

Bro I love that exhaust setup 😍.
I also don't like how low the gear ratio is using the Cd009 with my ls1 Z. @loj sells a rear differential with taller gears. They are out of stock at the moment but thats what I'm eventually going with.

Thanks ! Ok awesome thanks for the tip ! I will check LOJ for the rear gears !

@@wade_debo That's the 2.76:1 Q45 rear. I pretty much just quoted the LOJ site, but you might be able to source a rear end elsewhere. Stephen Dorrick over at LOJ is a massive wealth of information. (I didn't want to come into somebody's page that went with the SIKKY swap kits and start raving about the LOJ kits.)
Mainly I rave about Stephen, as I'm sure the products are very similar in quality. But for for an average idiot like me, having a quick resource that's VERY responsive and has pretty much seen it all with these swaps and actually raced these swaps, was just as valuable as the product itself.

Are you tracking your car? I haven't been to the track yet, and before I pull the trigger on the Q45 rear end (especially after I had a Wavetrac installed in my 3.54:1) I wanted to track it a few times. Because my brain and my math is saying the 3.54:1 will shine at the track.

    • @wade_debo
      @wade_debo  10 месяцев назад +1

@@glevii yea I could see the 3.54:1 working well at the track I don’t track my cars really it’s mostly just street cars ! Maybe I can meet in the middle with a gear ratio just to drop it a few hundred RPM and hopefully it helps with street and track.
