Griot's Garage Best of Show Liquid Wax vs. Paste Wax! Is There a Difference?

- The Dakota needs waxed badly so I decided to see if Griot's Garage Best of Show Liquid Wax is different then the Paste Wax version. In the video I misspoke when I said the liquid wax was $19.99 I noticed this after I uploaded the video. The liquid is $4 cheaper then the paste and you get more product in the liquid form. I just thought this would be fun since I had to wax the truck anyways.
If you liked this video please subscribe and hit that bell so you don't miss a thing.

Great video brother and I love the idea of splitting the pickup in half and using the liquid and paste. Me personally I think the liquid looks deeper (on camera) and it really likes to sheet the water and the paste likes to really bead. It’s not a night and day difference but that’s just my 2cents. Both look like really really great products and very user friendly! Awesome video my friend!
MeanBee392 Thanks! Yeah I thought splitting it in half was kind of different. I also think the liquid looks better.
Using the can wax does bring us back the old days . Great video
Yes it does. It just feels better in your hand also. Thanks!
Thanks for this video. You are correct in that the old Best of Show wax was really hard to remove. 3 weeks after waxing with the old Best of Show wax I would still see some spots on my car that needed to be removed. Next time I wax I will get the new version of the Best of Show wax.
You are welcome! You will like the new improved version.
Hi! I did not think you would reply. Thanks. One other question. I live in South Carolina, keep my cars clean and in a garage but all I do most of the time is just spray water on my cars and dry them. Twice a year I wax my cars. I see no reason to wash the cars with soap unless they get really dirty. Agree with this approach?
scratch67golfer I always try to reply to every comment if I can. In my opinion you should use a soap when washing to remove traffic film and fine contaminants. Rinsing with water isn’t cleaning the paint and the paint may start to look cloudy over time.
Very nice video Brian. Truck turned out really well. I use it on all three of my cars (except right now, I have the dinowax on the black Camaro) . I can get a year or better with it by using the spray wax during my car wash maintenance. It really extends the lifetime of it. And just when I feel like it, will use the one step for winter. And then spring, best of show back on it. Love the stuff
Camaro Time Thanks! It is a great product. I have used the BOS paste wax for a long time and have always loved its results. I like to put it on top of Liquid Gloss Polywax Sealant.
My respect for you.....
Very first video I see with a older car instead of a dealer car
juan p Rivera Thank you!
I love your channel! Just a few questions. Do you wash, wax then seal or just wash & wax ?
Gerard Wicks Thank you! I usually wash then apply a Sealant. Sometimes I top a sealant with a Carnauba Wax.
Another great video! I like how easy the Best of Show Liquid Wax goes on, but I don't like how it comes off. I've noticed that sometimes it's hard to get it to come off. And it often leaves dark, or high, spots on the paint. I'm not sure how to correct this, other than reapplying. I'm not sure why this happens either... Their stuff is still very good.
Exactly I had to use a bit of meguiars quick detailer in a microfiber to remove it
Buddy, this is one heck of a review....better lighting, camera...maybe...
The content is excellent!!!!!
Thank you!
And before watching you I only used Car Brite Products, I’m hooked on Griots products now👍🥰👍👍👍👍🙏
Griots products are amazing!
I use the liquid wax & it's the best most beautiful wax I've ever used. I use Griot's ceramic in the winter
@@8corymix8 Griots definitely has great waxes!
Now using the new version of Best of Show wax. Easy on and easy off. Applied the wax at night and removed the wax next morning. Is that a good idea; I beleive I heard this was the best thing to do. What do you think?
I love your tube site; I’m getting my Jeep back from bodywork after IDA , can you give me any advice on how to protect new paint, I love your attention to detail & your product reviews, I actually bought a Ryobi 18 volt polisher that you reviewed, it was difficult to find , & I love it👍🙏🥰
I’m new to all of this but all these products are making my head spin. I love your channel! Thanks for the info.
Do you have to clay bar and brilliant beforehand?
Chrissy Dunn There are a ton of products out there so I know what you mean. Thank you I’m glad you found the channel. Only clay when the paint needs it. If you put a plastic bag over your hand and rub the paint lightly and it feels like sand paper then it needs clayed first. Hope this helps.
FAB Automotive Detailing thanks I need a step by step guide- didn’t know about a lot of things you said thanks again
Chrissy Dunn You are welcome!
I just watched your paste wax, Best of show liquid, I think the Best of Show Liquid would be best for my new paint , unless you recommend something different , I trust your opinion👍🙏🥰
Great videos, very useful, thumbs up from me. But i have a question. Is the liquid wax does attract more dust than the paste wax? Or the paste does more attractive to dust?
I’ve only used can waxes. That how much I know. Lol. They both looked great and pushed the water well. Great video.
Yeah you need to broaden your horizons and try a liquid wax. Haha Thanks they did work very well.
Used the Best of Show this past Sunday on the Jeep and gave the Jeep a great shine . I let it haze about 30 min wax came off easy .
It is a great product! I know the bottle said 30 minutes but for this video I wanted to see how fast it they would dry.
what buffer machine are you using on the last part of the video with Griot's Garage Best of Show Wax
The new Best of show is NOT an easy product to remove. But not really bad. The shine on the other hand, INCREDIBLE. Great filling properties and does not leave the surface cloudy with multiple coats.
Erik Datadeen I Show in the video how easy it is to remove unless you are talking about the old formula. Yes The shine is incredible! It does not have any fillers. I have never tried multiple coats because I normally apply it on top of Liquid Gloss Polywax Sealant. Thanks for watching
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing hey Brian. Ease of wipeoff is more of an opinionated thing and will vary with an individuals past expirience and expertise. So in my testing, i find the new formula. Slightly difficult to remove. As far as filling, ALL waxes fill. Griots even states it on the label of the new Best of show wax. I have a unique situation that i have cars that see less than 80 miles per year. Garage queens, if you will. No reason for sealants on these vehicles, but because of the lack of use, these vehicles do aquire a buildup from multiple layers of wax. I probably have 6-8 coats of the new Best of show wax on one vehicle and the surface clarity is great, Confirming what Griots states in the label of Best of Show regarding the filing and clarity of multiple coats. In contrast, I have had multiple coats of varying waxes that do leave the surface cloudy. Hope this info helps someone. Thanks Brian.
Erik Datadeen I agree that with most detailing products everybody’s experience is different. Because I have tried products that people say work well and I didn’t get very good results. Please don’t take this as an argument because that’s not what it is that’s the downside to youtube when you’re just commenting back-and-forth to each other you’re not sure how the other person is taking it. So I just went out and read the whole bottle and I did not see anywhere where it says It fills in imperfections. I do agree that Carnauba waxes can fill. I live about 20 minutes from Griot’s bottling and manufacturing facility. I know people that work there that bottle and make their products and they said they definitely do not have any fillers. I have seen multiple videos where Richard Griot’s Says he takes pride that none of his products include fillers.
6 to 8 coats is a lot of wax I would think that it would be hazy but that’s awesome that it’s not. What kind of car do you have it only gets 80 miles a year? I do appreciate your opinion so please do not take this the wrong way.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing no offense taken sir. Thats the beauty of your chanel, most people here are down to earth and mature. And thank you very much for your response. Ill take a photo of my bottle and message you. My Charger Hellcat, E36 M3, and Ram SRT10 all see very low mileage. I have other cars of less prestige and better mpg that i daily drive lol Again, thanks for your video amd thanks for your reply describing your expirences. Keep an eye on your inbox, Ill send over the label on my bottle. Thank you Sir.
Erik Datadeen Awesome I will be watching for it! Dang your car problems are problems that I need especially the hellcat! Haha My Garage queen is a Dodge Journey! Haha
I’ve been using the “ Best of show “ Spray, works great , Easy on Easy off 👍
BOS Spray Wax is a good product.
Have the entire Griot's line ....this Paste Wax is the Cats Meow...Full Beans ...easy on easy off result shine shine
Nice video! I don't think they "combined" anything with the Poly wax and the BOS wax though. Sealants/Synthetic products usually are easier to work with in general. However, they really did reformulate BOS and whatever it is they added just made it easier to use. I actually use their "Premium" carnauba paste wax and found it's right up there with the best in terms of looks and durability.
Sophana Aik Thanks! When they reformulated the BOS they said they took the parts of Polywax that makes it easy to wipe off and put it in the BOS. I’m sure there were more things done but I do know that much about it. Haha I have never tried the premium Carnauba Wax but have heard good things about it.
FAB Automotive Detailing Haha very true, I'm not a chemist either. I guess all that matters is the end result. Yeah you should pick up a can of the Premium paste wax. I have all kinds of wax, from P21S, to Collinite 915, and Fusso coat etc. I found the Premium paste wax to be on par with the Collinite 915 in looks but with much better water beading. Griots makes some really good stuff.
Sophana Aik They truly do make great products and that’s why I make all these videos. Before I started making videos it was hard to find Griot’s Garage reviews so that’s why I started making videos. I will have to try the Premium Carnauba our now. Thanks for the info!
I have a 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 V8, no rust (surprised living in Red clay lol,) but I do have the problem of no clear coat on the roof & the hood! 😔 Dang good truck, but she is old & starting to nickel & dime me! Throwing p0301 now.. I use the dodge as my testing dumbie 😁
Yeah Dodge paints haven't always been the greatest. P0301 is Cylinder #1 Misfire. Most likely a bad plug or wire.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing yea I got some packs ordered & figured this time I would go with the ngk plugs. I done a tune up last April. Praying that's it.. I took out the plug on cyc 1 & it looked great, BUTTTTT.... I really don't want to deal with injectors lol..
Katrina Georgia Girl Injectors aren’t to bad. I would take the coil off #1 and swap it with a #3 and see if the misfire follows the coil so the new code would be P0303.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing: I will try this after the rain subsides.. Lol.. I need a carport...
any thoughts of doing a video do's/dont's on cleaning up vehicles coming out of winter like up here in the northeast with all the salt etc etc...especially having to use automatic car wash's as well...thanks and great work on your channel, i love it!
I never thought about that! Thanks for the idea. Definitely don’t recommend car washes but if I have to I use a touch less because there is less chance of damage. Believe it or not touch free can still swirl paint because of all the water pressure.
I just tried best of show wax and my god the shine is unbelievable.
Daniel Valenzuela Yeah the Gloss is great with Beat of Show Wax! Glad you liked it.
Do you still recommend Poly Wax compared to some of the newest hybrid sealants/waxes which have come out since?
For an everyday vehicle, what would you recommend for a sealant to last?
G. N. Griots Liquid Gloss Polywax or One Step Sealant.
Great video. I see u r a Amsoil fan me too. Love Amsoil .
Dunno if you guys cares but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend lately :)
@Kannon Houston yup, I have been using instaflixxer for since december myself :)
@Kannon Houston definitely, been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :)

Good video as usual big guy... I actually just Uploaded 3 livestreams wit your shirt on . #Advertisement
MR SOMTHINBASIC215 Thanks! Awesome I will check them out. Thanks for wearing it in your videos. I saw them pop up but I was at work and couldn’t watch them.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing You aint gotta watch them .lol I'm just telling you. Im out here tryin to get people to check you out bud ..thats all .. Be safe
MR SOMTHINBASIC215 I appreciate that so much!
how do i know if i have the old one or the new one. the bottle looked the same
All these wax water tests are useless iMO. Doesn't indicate gloss, durability, shine, reflectivity. And is water beading even better than water sheeting? Many would argue beading just increases chances of water spots when you're not there to dry the car after rain. No offense to the poster but water test seems pointless because we've been brought to believe beading equals greatness. Happy to hear other opinions and learn.
OK thank you it look like a rack full of different colored buffing pads sorry about that. I was just looking for some type of rack that could mount to the wall and you could just lay all your buffing pads standing up from left to right thanks anyways. Fred
Fred A No problem! You are welcome
It looks like on the left side of the garage do you have a rack full of buffing pads. If it is I would like to know where you bought it if it’s not sorry.
Fred A No there isn’t a rack full of pads. I keep all my pads in that red cabinet you can see in the video. No problem I just wasn’t sure what you were referring to.
I'm new to detailing. I have a Griot's G9 and I started with griot's compound with an orange pad and the first time I did it, I also finished it the same way with a black pad. I thought it looked pretty, pretty, good. The second time I did it, I started the same way, but finished it with Griot's Best of Show. I did not see the difference between the two waxing's. Did I do something wrong?
If you used just the compound the first time then you had no protection. Compound is not a wax.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing Thanks for the reply. I guess I thought that the wax should have looked brighter? A more mirror finish. But maybe it's the color of the car, it being a light blue, that keeps it from standing out as much as a darker color.
I bought the Compound from Griot Garage and I wasn’t please with it at all.
Marcus Cassius Are you talking about complete compound? What did you not like about it?
Why it's open mic here share
Use the fast correcting cream, it's better
where did you get the buffing pad rack on the left side of your shop? i cant find one.
Fred A I’m not sure what rack you are talking about?
Lol, I do the same drying my car. Except I use a 20 dollar powerful mini blower I bought at Costco..
Hector Raigosa Leaf blowers are great for drying cars!
Love the shirt And the truck is not in bad shape at all mines the rust.
Thanks! It has gotten a lot worse over the last few years but yes it is still in decent shaper for a 98.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing it sure is
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing Oh another good video by the way
Chuckwick Simmons Thank You! BYW I just got an email earlier that my shirts are done. I will be picking them up either tomorrow or Friday.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing No worries my friend just let me know when you got them because I'm ready to purchase.
Best of show liquid wax or poly gloss? I can't device between the 2.
Francisco Arroyo It really depends on if it’s for a daily driver. For a daily driver I would apply Liquid Gloss Polywax. For a show car or garage queen I would use best of Show. Polywax is a Sealant and lasts up to a year. Best of Show is a Carnauba and you get a couple months. I apply polywax then tip it with Best of Show. The result is amazing!
The Liquid Wax states to wait 20-30 minutes before wipe off.
William Bud Bowen As long as it’s gazed up and doesn’t smear then it’s ready to be removed. I took a class at Griot’s facility with Jeff Brown instructing the class and the finger swipe test is the best way to know. He said if it does not smear then it is fully cured and there is no reason to leave it on any longer.
Hey, I’ve been using Chemical Guys butter wax for the past few months, don’t think I’ve seen any videos of you testing that out, but if you have, do you think the Griot’s gloss is better? Thanks for any help.
Aaron Brown I have not used it! I have almost bought it several times but haven’t had much luck with CG products so I kept putting it back.
FAB Automotive Detailing I’ll take that as I can do a lot better with something else haha. I’ll grab me some Griots. Thanks for the reply!
Aaron Brown You are welcome! I would buy Griot’s Liquid Gloss Polywax. It’s my favorite paint sealant.
FAB Automotive Detailing Thanks for the recommendation! I ordered the Poly Wax this morning. One more question, if you don’t mind.. how often would you recommend applying a coat of this particular wax? I wash my car once a week, I would normally apply the CG butter wax around every 3rd - 4th wash, but every wash in between that I always use Adam’s detailer just to have some sort of protection. I live in LA and the car isn’t garage kept. The paint was in pretty bad shape, a few months back I had it polished and it turned out great. I’m trying to keep it that way! Lol thanks so much man.
Aaron Brown You are welcome! Normally I would say reapply every 8 months or so. Being you live in California that gets pretty hot I would reapply every 3-4 months. Make sure that after you wipe the sealant off that you allow 24 hrs full cure time before getting wet. If it does get wet it’s no big deal it will just lessen the durability. I like to use Spray on Wax by Griot’s every wash as a drying aid and that helps boost the base wax. You can normally buy that at any Autoparts store.
can this best of show liquid wax go on plastic? I remember waxing my car many years ago, and when I waxed the paint, and accidentally touched any of the exterior black or grey plastic trim, the trim was stained with the wax and I couldn't ever get it out. It was an absolute eye sore. I stopped waxing my vehicles for that reason. But this was back in the 90's
Shawn D Definitely don’t want any wax on your plastic trim. Polywax from Griot’s seems to wipe off the easiest on plastic trim.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing - so that rule hasn't changed :) so that means I just need to be more careful to NOT touch the plastic trim pieces. got it. thanks again
Shawn D Youbare welcome
I’m going with Liquid, nice Bri . Tex ya tonight
Jim Flanagan They are both great waxes just don’t last very long.
is there any benefit of putting one coat on, let it dry, then wipe off....then turn around and apply a second coat?
Shawn D If you apply a Sealant then a Carnauba then yes. Gloss will be better and you extend the life of the sealant. Carnauba topped with a Carnauba not really any benefits IMO
Can you use the paste wax with a da polisher?
Kimi Jong Highball You can but you would have to use something to get it out of the can to spread on the polisher.
Very informative thanks, plus I like your Trump sticker 👍
