I think that the real target of this song is globalization. Slowly but surely, local cultures are dissolving into a main, global, undifferentiated culture symbolized by fast food, famous brands and some such. It happens to be american stuff, but it could be chinese, russian or other depending whatever country is the first world power.
Rammstein's music is rock, and rock music was born in the US for example. And I'm sure they eat pizza and burgers from time to time, and so do I!
We just have to make sure our kids still can see Masai african warriors, Thai buddhist monks in traditional garb, and some such.
I love american music, movies, fashion trends, vintage cars, ways of working (most of my colleagues are in the US), but I want to make sure my country keeps its traditions and values. Love from Europe.
Rammstein doesnt make Rock, it is a metal band(metal originates from britain) and moreover what they do is called "Neue deutsche Härte" which translates to "new german hardness"

I saw a reaction to this video from an american guy the other day and he was a little pissed off. Just a bit. He said something like: I mean Rammstein is a German band, I think they have their own bad past. Why are they pointing at others? (fun fact: in the song and video for "Deutschland" they treat our nation and our history as critically as possible! What many here did not like) - And of course he's right about one point. We really screwed up, I mean really!!! And we were very well informed about it at school and it was hard to see but I think it was necessary. It is necessary to deal critically with the past. And as you said yourself in a comment: show me a country that has no skeletons in the closet. But have we really learned? When I look at the world today, I don't think so. Greed and religions/ideologies are the downfall of mankind. And I think it would be better for the nature today than tomorrow that we finally destroy ourselves - which will happen one day, must happen! Because humans are humans and greedy and have to follow ideologies because someone has to be responsible for their actions. But maybe I'm wrong and there will come a generation that really thinks differently and can lead a people. But who sets these new values? Another ideology... Sorry, a bit dark I know. Anyway, I've seen the reaction you're alluding to, too. But I can also do it in a very amusing way, because Germany is also treated very critically and Germany is a role model. And I think Germany had one thing and that was it, and America has about a hundred things on this list that were or are illegal under international law.
I didn't mean the "old guy..". It doesn't even matter who it was. I actually only use this reference as an introduction, because it represents a contrast to how D. reacts here. I also don't think we'll get any further if we accuse each other of things, I wanted to express that as well. Yes, coming to terms with the past is important! And there will be no better future without a look at what has happened. But I also believe that we, as different nations, are not that different. No matter what country or culture it is about. I believe the mistake is in human nature and only when we can reflect ourselves mercilessly, and everyone uses their inner compass for themselves, as long as it is intact, to fathom what is wrong and right, then we as humanity can continue to exist.
And we must find a right and just dealing with those who have an ethical deviation in their human nature. And to place much more value on education in general, but also in dealing with each other and nature. I think the biggest problem is simply that we are too many people. A society that sits too close together and we have forgotten how to use only the resources that are due to us and that can be provided by nature.
You just have to look at how people treat each other on the internet. Every second comment is full of anger or hatred towards the other person or a third party. And at some point that will also be translated into reality, it has already begun. We're not perfect, none of us and we will keep making mistakes. We should develop more tolerance and compassion again, apart from what has already been said. I believe there is a lot to be done if we are to sustain this ship called humanity through these tumultuous times.

Why am I writing this here? Because you can usually still talk reasonably to each other under such videos. Maybe because music connects. And if it does anything positive for someone, or someone gives me something to think about, then in my eyes the world has gotten a little bit better. Naive? Perhaps. But it can't do much harm either.
For understanding: These are just my thoughts. Nobody has to like that and I don't want to lecture anyone. At the moment I'm just writing about what's on my mind right now. No more and no less. 🙃

I am German. I don't go to McDonald's or Burgerking, you can eat that stuff yourself. I get pizza where it comes from, from Italians, pasta too. My kids are grown up, they grew up without Coca Cola-Santa Claus, here came the "Christkind", that's tradition.

On Rammstein, they grew up in the GDR, so under Russian influence. They were already grown when the wall fell. It must have been a real culture shock for them at the time and they will feel it much more than the West Germans, for us (I'm from the West) it was normal.

Für sie muss das damals ein richtiger Kulturschock gewesen sein und sie werden das viel stärker empfinden als die Westdeutschen, für uns (ich bin aus dem Westen) war das ja normal.

@@ReactionsbyD same is in croatia. only young people go to burger king or mcdonalds, to hang out, to have date, coz that is only what they can afford, alternative is pizzeria. for anyone over 20 mcdonalds and burger king are places where you go during night out or early morning coz you are hangover and hungry... dates, family gatherings, private celebration are or in restaurants, cafess or in someone's house. we cook every day at home, if we have a party we will cook and bake and everyone will bring something what they cooked. alternatives are catering, ordering pizza or simmilar. anyone over 35 forget all of those, home made cooking for gatherings or nice fancy restaurants for dates or special occasions.. thaz why those earn way less in europe than in usa, our culture is way different. starbucks gave up on idea to open in croatia twice, coz our coffee drinking culture is way different than in usa. and we only drink boiled turkish coffee or maybe italian way esspresso...

You should check the lyrics and also check their song Deutschland. They nailed it, Germans are nation who more or less faced their past, problem us and Americans do(same as in my country) some things which should be addressed and condemed are celebrated as victories. I come from former Yugoslavia and see that many Americans have same problem of not seeing things objectively.
Btw in EU McDonald's is way different than in USA coz of food laws. Some things you have in USA here are banned, portions are way smaller, shakes containe way less sugar and earn way less than in USA coz we have a culture and tradition to cook at home and when we eat outside it is restaurants or pizzerias. McDonald's is more considered as a Friday late night or saturday night to grab so etching going home with hangover or half drunk....

I don't think the intent was to offend or put Americans before the head. It's more of a criticism of the government for interfering everywhere in the world and trying to get its way. Often with unpleasant results, see Iraq. Or Afghanistan, or, or.
Of course, every country has its own mess and has done bad things in the past.

Oh D, don't take it too seriously. I know they love America and to play there. America and Germany is a special thing, because after WW2 WesternGermany's culture was shaped very much by the American occupation. And Germans loved it after nazi time. But there was also great resistance against the 'big brother'.

My man, ever heard of international political influence, lobbyism, financial dependencies and predatory business practices? Your country and it's companies have mastered leveraging those tools in the past as did ours (Germany). Simple folks can't choose weather or not they want to get a starbucks, McDonalds... in their street and they can't forsee the long term consequences. In case of online businesses like Amazon countries don't even get any tax money but local retailers get pushed out of business. Sorry to tell you, but strong exporting economies like our countries aren't as innocent as you seem to believe.
