Generally a good small guy doesn't beat a good big guy, however once in a while you get the exceptions like Jack Dempsey, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones that can WILL upset the odds as gifted !
I am also a huge fan Roy Jones Jr, and he's one of my most favorite boxers of all time! Having said that, I am pretty sure that Roy lost his speed and coherence after experimenting with some harmful substances that helped him gain weight and strength needed for the heavy weight division. Gaining and losing weight is always bad enough, but I think that steroids and perhaps some additional substances he was taking on and off at the time were the real reason his career went downwards.
I remember the Jones Hopkins fight very clearly. I remember going into thinking it was gonna be a real test for Jones. I left the fight thinking Jones just made a great fighter look like he was in way over his head. It was crazy how well Jones fought in that fight.
After 15 years of a flawless record, He grew to be a super cocky fighter. He began to be lackadaisical in his fight preparation. In other words, he beat himself. He was actually one the most talented fighter ever.
After he beat ruiz he should have been done and went out the best fighter in history p4p. He had nothing else to prove he dominated the competition he even wanted tyson back then we heard it out of his mouth and i think he would have beat him in 2003.
He was untouchable until he faced tarver who was his kryptonite. People can't use no excuses because tarver and Roy are the same age and tarver technically beat Roy Jones all 3 fights, reason I say technically is because the first fight they gave to Roy even though tarver should have won. Tarver wasn't happy and got his revenge in the second fight saying, "you got any excuses tonight Roy?" Later on knocking Roy out in the second round. Then they fought the third time and Roy got rocked so many times that fight and in the end lost to tarver by UD.
9:28 It's art to see how champions "get up" or force themselves up from a first career knockdown or serious knockdown. Look at the instincts, the determination and the refusal to accept being down.
He wouldn't have lost if he had retired when he should have. I think moving up to heavyweight and then moving back down to light heavyweight was a mistake. The only fighter who ever did that and was successful was Bob Fitzsimmons and that's because he was the same weight when he won the heavyweight championship and the light heavyweight (actually I believe he was a pound heavier when he won the light heavyweight title but I could be mistaken 🤔), but anyway that and combined with the fact that he just simply hung around too long. In his prime tho, he was almost untouchable!! Truly, a phenom!!

I always wondered if gaining the weight to move up to Heavyweight then having to work his ass off and have a routine to lose weight inorder to fight Tarver made him more sluggish that added on to his age just unraveled him. alot of fighters when they move up and then back down dont fare as good usually. most of the time when a fighter moves up they stay there. You couldnt defend against him and you couldnt out punch him either. You dont understand if you think those greats of the past would run through him. Would never happen
Best fighter I’ve ever seen with my own 2 eyes period never disrespect Roy. It’s called age.
Nothing but respect from me RJ... no one done it like you champ
Superman! Absolute legend. Totally in love with boxing! Warrior! One of the very best to ever put on a pair of gloves.
Generally a good small guy doesn't beat a good big guy, however once in a while you get the exceptions like Jack Dempsey, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones that can WILL upset the odds as gifted !
Kamil Erkadoo Mike Tyson was short, but he was not small. A heavyweight is a heavyweight.
Kamil Erkadoo Mike Tyson was short, but he was not small. A heavyweight is a heavyweight.
You are the type of guy who runs from guys bigger than you because someone told you....you are too small for him lol 😆
I think Jones as a boxer: Fantastic
But I have always said this, "Iron Mike Tyson was a trained killer who could also box."
B I perfectt!!
Perfect
I think if Mike Tyson were to drop down to Roy's natural class he would be eaten alive far worse than what Mike could do to him at HW.
yeah unless he had to kill someone world class
I watched all his fights" he was "for real" Roy Jones, "the best.
I remember that night vividly...Tarver completely fractured my heart.
Ruined everything.
IMO; Roy Jones Jr in his *prime* was simply the GREATEST talent in boxing history 🙌🏻
You forgot the steroids.
@@thiskingbusiness
Steroids doesn’t make you throw 7 consecutive left hooks in a row, execute lightning fast combinations, and have 2ms reaction time.
He still one of the best in my book crazy speed plus power
That weight cut for that heavy weight fight killed the invincible Roy Jones. Tarver caught him at the right time (no pun)..... as it always happens.
Background music is awesome 😂
Specially at 2:20 haha
Real nice 🙌🏽🎹
These videos are brilliant. As a boxing fan, I appreciate your hard work 🙏🏾
I remember the Jones Hopkins fight very clearly. I remember going into thinking it was gonna be a real test for Jones. I left the fight thinking Jones just made a great fighter look like he was in way over his head. It was crazy how well Jones fought in that fight.
That an absolute joy it was to see Jones fight in his prime.
I think Loma is carrying his mantle today.
traskalle hell yeah I love Lomachecko
Loma is one of the most dominant boxers out right now, in terms of how he wins his fights, just like Roy Jones did
Not really. Loma won't risk climbing to wieghts above his current weight.
@@kudanyats4195 I was under the impression Loma was holding belts in several different weight classes.
Kuda Nyats homeboy is 5’7” give him a break...
After 15 years of a flawless record, He grew to be a super cocky fighter. He began to be lackadaisical in his fight preparation. In other words, he beat himself. He was actually one the most talented fighter ever.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing. True ‘Mandingo’ fighters.
"After Mike Tyson I'm done"
September 12
when he fights Tyson he will be going out on a stretcher Tyson will destroy him
@WheelsAlwaysTurning Jones isnt right up stairs if he actually thinks his going to beat Tyson
@@Farmer2492 you'll be disappointed. It's an exhibition between a couple old men. No one is getting hurt.
You guy's know these guy's are not in there prime right?
His career would be seen so different if he had just retired when he should have.
After he beat ruiz he should have been done and went out the best fighter in history p4p. He had nothing else to prove he dominated the competition he even wanted tyson back then we heard it out of his mouth and i think he would have beat him in 2003.
So nobody here went back to see 2:58 a couple of times? Just me? Okay.
Damn i didn't notice at first. I had to go back after I read your comment.
YES SIR 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Saggy teddies
Adam is a saggy titty
Joey Bebop virgin
After Roy Jones stepped up to heavyweight, he was just never the same.
No he was never the same after he went back down in weight. He was still peak against ruiz did you watch that fight?
@@Djuane Yes. That's what I meant.
roy Jones had the sweetest knockout punch of all boxer's I love him !!
One of the best to do it! Great vid keep up the work, im busting my ass on my channel 🥊🥊🥊
2:56 Thanks for all of your efforts Mate hehe 😂
If he never went to heavyweight he would’ve had a few more dominant years
He was untouchable until he faced tarver who was his kryptonite.
Exellent documentary. Very good. Tells some real stories.
Both of these fighters are forever and always, Icons, Legends, and Supernatural heroes❣
He should have never gone down from the heavyweight class. That ruined his natural balance and strenght.
G.O. Skywalker he should have never move up*
@@KiskiPerez11 Nope, that was ok. But going back again destroyed his balance/health in that timem
Roy's decline in boxing was the most heartbreaking thing to ever happen...
2:55 I thought i seen that.. Nice!!
9:28 It's art to see how champions "get up" or force themselves up from a first career knockdown or serious knockdown. Look at the instincts, the determination and the refusal to accept being down.
Thank you for making these types of videos
He wouldn't have lost if he had retired when he should have. I think moving up to heavyweight and then moving back down to light heavyweight was a mistake. The only fighter who ever did that and was successful was Bob Fitzsimmons and that's because he was the same weight when he won the heavyweight championship and the light heavyweight (actually I believe he was a pound heavier when he won the light heavyweight title but I could be mistaken 🤔), but anyway that and combined with the fact that he just simply hung around too long. In his prime tho, he was almost untouchable!! Truly, a phenom!!
Nñm
losing all that weight jones put on to fight at heavyweight destroyed him!!
Roy jones the most athletically gifted fighter to step in the ring
Athletically? Ehhh mike tyson or deyontae wilder could take that title.
Edit: actually that goes to vinny pazienza
Gear actually that goes to Roy he played in a semiprofessional basketball game right and defended his championship in the same day
@@kintrickliddell8794 he played in the CBA if I'm not mistaken, which was professional basketball. If you get payed to play it's a professional sport. Yes he did also box in a match the same day he played a game.
Bo S u right I wasn’t exactly sure to me Roy jones was the most athletically gifted boxer ever
@@kintrickliddell8794 dude was the man and we share the same birthday, he's a few years older. He's the first fighter that got me ordering pay per view in the 90's.
Dude your channel is awesome I’m mad I just discovered it today but I’m glad I did.
Roy Jones was the most exciting fighter of that era and I don’t think anyone has matched his speed and ring IQ since then. You are 100% correct about the rapid weight change being his demise
If Roy had retired after the Ruiz or first Tarver fight he’d possibly be considered the GOAT 🐐 🥊
Absolutely
To me he’s one of the goats
He did tarnish his record but was unbeatable in his prime
he is not far from it imo. he may be but you gotta go way back before you get to serious competition. dude is a freaking boxing god and was my fav from his start luckily was introduced before 10- have to go look to see which one was my 1st) hopefully lomachenko from 2nd fight may come nearer than most in recent times? I do like the dude lots. aint got that thang like the rjjr
You all forget how Calzaghe clowned his ass
And gave RJJ a dose of his own cockiness.
Just absolutely loved watching Joe destroy Roy.
13:16 "HAA-Ouff"... 😂
It's amazing how even though they didn't get to fight in the early 2000s that they're still going to make that happen 20 years later
Finally we get to see Roy vs Mike . Should be epic!!
RJJ will always be my favorite
Goddamn, that thumbnail was prophetic 😳
Hard to watch my favorite boxer get knocked out...hard!
Roy Jones was a Beast In his Hay day...Would've been a crazy PPV Fight
🥊Jones Vs Tyson🥊
Thats one thing I learn no matter how untouchable you think you are there is always someone out there to put you in your place with or with you your boys around
I was blown away as a 14 yr old watching a 19 yr old Jones Jr light up the Olympics. Ive been a fan of his ever since.
Now when I review his fights the more I see Sugar Ray Robinson in him & now hes even starting to look like the older retired version of Sugar Ray Robinson.
Roy was great. I dont think anyone was further ahead of their era since Robinson.
Sugar Ray Leonard was ahead of the pack in his era but Roy Jones was so far ahead of his he was outa sight.
Hes in my all time top 4 alongside the two Sugar Rays &:Ali.
Roy Jones Jr.
Superman
Captain Hook.
Outa sight.
2:57 that is one happy bouncy woman ... it’s no wonder Jones carried on boxing to catch sight of her again in the crowd 😂
I would have loved to have seen a prime RJJ Vs a prime Joe Calzaghe. They were both past their prime when JC beat him.
I think Roy was never the same after packing those extra muscles to fight Ruiz. Tarver wasn't as good as some of his earlier victims.
As a Pensacola native, I take so much pride in watching Roy go to work.
best boxing channel on RUclips
2:14 song is "Schematic - Why"
My favorite fighter ever. I got 2 fighters tied for The GOAT...Ali and Jones.
Tyson is the goat
Jones. Ali physically couldn't do what Jones did to capture so many different divisions.
Roy Jones Jr. was ahead of his time and underrated but anyone know that DnB track that starts in 2:17?
Been trying to find this track myself lol
BLTV, well done clip, well done
I state this with knowledge and passion for the sport of boxing.
Forget the weight drained weak Rjjr, ALWAYS remember the most remarkable talented PURE amazing boxer WE HAVE EVER SEEN & I don’t care what anyone says.
Rjjr had everything, crazy speed crazy control crazy movement crazy ring craft he had it all & multiple hooks NO ONE could replicate.
This guy was untouchable & I LOVE him for blessing us with his skills.
I am disgusted in Rjjr fans, people pundits that dropped him after his decline.
Rjjr yr my man forever & TBE IMO.
I don't see Tarver winning against Roy Jones in his prime. Jones was by far best fighter i have seen in my life.
I feel that Canelo wants to accomplish what Roy Jones did, he's trying to feel if he can take a legit heavier man's punch when he went light middleweight.
The most genetically, talentally, gifted fighter ever!
Ali?
Outlaw Jodie Wales does this guy look like Ali?
Hassan X I’m indicating Ali would be better than this guy. Far better.
Outlaw Jodie Wales better in what way bitch boy
Outlaw Jodie Wales Far better. If you don’t know about Roy Jones don’t talk about boxing
fantastic videos
Outstanding video! Very good job!
