  • Sr. performs & describes how to replace/repair the glove box, glove box mount & cabin air filter on a 2016 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility(the same for all 2011-2019 Ford Explorer trim levels).
Please heed the warning regarding the white pins/posts/clips that hold the "Glove Compartment" onto it's mount Sr. mentions in the start of our video!
This will absolutely save you money while ensuring you do not break your glove box mounts.
**The Cabin Air Filter Door clip was broke before we received this project. So as per our customer we reused that door.

Excellent work man! Both of my mechanics backed out on me to replace my blend door actuator and blower motor; your vid saved my would-be frozen hide (down to 4 degrees tonight)!

Love to get comments like this. Great to here that our videos are helping others realize that some repairs can be DIY to save $ or to save the day.

I found a MUCH faster way to get those damn white pins in:
Step one: Take your plastic trim tool and take off the trim that is on top of the glove box. It will pop out with the tool reveling 4 #7 bolts.
Step two: Open the glove box and remove the spring loaded latch on the right hand side so that the box drops down.
Step three: remove the 4 screws on top.
Now if by chance you already watched a video on how to remove the pins and you did it you will need to remove the airbag under the glove box (if you have one) if not you're lucky! Now you will be learning new swear words to get the pins back in.
    Best of luck!
    Your welcome!

How do I fix the hinge on my glove box? They are both broke and I have to be very careful on how I open it or it will fall off.

So I guess it depends on what is broke. If the glove compartment door has broken hinges you will need to source either a brand new one or one maybe here on eBay or at a junk yard like the "You Pull & Pay's" that are all over the country.
You do want to make sure the replacement comes with the spring loaded tether and the white stud clips we show in this video. That's what we did for this vehicle. We had to source a used glove compartment door because the hing parts that the white clips are installed in were completely cracked and destroyed due to the spring loaded tether being broken.
How this helps. If you have any other questions let us know. We will do our best to answer them for you.

I have something stuck inside my glove box and the ford place wants to charge me a 120.00 pluss tax to get it out. What is the best route I can take? I can't afford to pay that.

I would recommend while the glove box is closed removing the white pins I show in this video first. Then pull the handle on the outside of the glovebox. That should gain you access to the glove box and dislodge whatever may be stuck inside. Just be careful you don't break the spring loaded tether. Probably the reason they quoted you that amount is shop labor. Anyone with basic skills with hand tools can for sure get it open. Let us know if you need any further advise or help.

Great video! Saved me money from going to the dealer and getting robbed! The holes where the white pins go in were jammed so I had to put the glove box on the frame then put the whole unit in. I was unable to screw the bottom 4 bolts in but it seems stable enough .
