You are correct! Google used US gallons not Imperial (UK) gallons. L/100km should be 9.5 with K&N and 8.9 with standard filter. Thank you for pointing this out!
These are good filters, use k&n filter cleaner to dissolve the filter oil before washing it. Air dry only ( no compressed air, I balance mine on a radiator in the house 😊) then re oil the filter element with k&n filter oil. It really will last forever if taken care of, no scrubbing or airline drying. Great video, thanks for letting us see all your mods and jobs. 👍👍👍
On the standard engine yes agree and also if you don't keep the car long, however on my 2007 Freelander 2 2.2 I have had since new for nearly 15 years and being modified and mapped it is worth it, I achieve 37-40 mpg and improved response, also saved money on replacement filters. all depends on what you want
I run K&N filters on all our cars and bikes. If looked after the are great value for money. You never have to pay for a new filter, so in two services it will have paid for itself. Power gains are minimal in a standard engine, but that’s not the reason most people buy a K&N. They buy them for the simple fact that your garage can’t keep charging you for a new air filter, even if the old one is still fine.
Yes, good point about saving on future filters, although mine was about fives times the price of a standard filter. I will continue to run mine for that reason only...that it is washable. The power gain isn’t really noticeable but I think my wallet will eventually notice the reduced mpg.
got a 13 plate sd4 and fitted it with a k+n filter had it remapped it's also a auto drive it with eco in mind ive averaged 40mpg and drive it normally i average 35 mpg
I actually fitted one of these on my 2011 Freelander 2 in January this year - on the basis that I had had one on one of my favourite cars , an XR2 mk1(!), back in the 80’s and it seemed to do the biz. On the Freelander I could feel a definite improvement in acceleration - generally more ‘willingness’ - and was pleased your test verified that. WAs it worth it? That combined with the longevity I would say a definite ‘yes’. (PS - have to concur with the request to edit your videos down a bit please.)
Thanks David, I know what you mean about the feel and willingness. It is more apparent at lower speeds on mine. I’m going to continue to run the K&N so that it can pay for itself by not having to buy paper filters over the next few years. I still think £55 is quite a lot for the gains (and losses) seen, but nice to be able to wash and re-use the filter. Noted about video length, will try to edit down more.
You won't need to ever replace the filter as long as you own the car. So this will save replacing the filter every year so thus saving £10 a year. 5 years you would have spent the purchase price on paper filters. Also K&N are not as restrictive and stop more particals than a paper filter.
You are correct. I should have made it clearer…when I said it wasn’t worth it, I meant for 1sec quicker 30-70mph time. When you look at the cost over several years it is worth doing.
More fuel would give lower mpg surely? I’m still running the K&N. I’ve not noticed any change in power or mpg but being able to wash it and refit is nice.
I am considering trying this, as sometimes it seems as though it's struggling to get going??? 2007 freelander 2. 2.2 diesel. Average around 34.5 to gallon. Does anyone know what the issue could be. Lack of power sometimes.???
@@BeavisPits someone must know something? I wonder if it's the injectors. If been idling for a few mins thats when it's worse, wonder if bad carbon build up? Give it a fast run and then it seems well. Anyways some useful tips on your vids. 👍👍

Don't think your mpg to l/100km is right.
I used google to calculate it, so it is probably wrong. I’ll check.

I'm installing a K&N, but my Freelander has the 3.2 Si6 and I want to hear her sing 👌

It is normal to see higher mpg ..more air inside the engine more fuel it needs

Well, filter vs engine block 🤔 I'd rather stick with paper filters
well, really surprised with results! esp when normal filters are so cheap! just shows some mods are not worth doing!

Mine does that too. Hesitance. Never got to the bottom of it. Tried everything.

It has to be something with fuel delivery, so pump, filter or injectors. I try to do a video on this soon as my fuel filter needs renewing.
Nice video, I use K&N air filter for my motorbike : good product, you should use specific spray cleaner and oil.:-)
I will investigate the oil. It didn’t come with any, but I’m sure I can buy it separately.
@@BeavisPits Yes you can buy the cleaner and the oil separately, the oil is used avoiding eccessive dryness and give the nice red coloring
if you put silver stripes on it will make it faster lol
I was going to put a badge on the back saying “Turbo”, that helped in the 1980s

Next purchase.... a small tripod.? 😉
I have one, and do use it in some of my videos.
