Great watch talk! No wonder why Calatrava has been in the market for so long. Patek simply created the perfect formula for a very balanced timepiece line. Please keep videos like that coming Tim and Brian! Best, Amintas
I've also missed Brian talking about Patek and just watches. Its good to see you both together; there was always a fun banter between you, differing personalities and it always worked. *Glad to hear its part of a three-part series, looking forward to the next one!
Great discussion. I'm not a fan of Patek's new design direction. There are some highlights (5172 and the Grand Comps), but generally I think they're starting to look bulky and obvious. You can see the marketing strategy made metal: "MUST LOOK YOUNG!!" Like a retired Swiss banker in a shell-suit, never good. Patek should lead, not follow. 'Calatrava' now stands for nothing as a range and a classical, refined, traditional aesthetic is being unceremoniously dumped.
Welcome back Brian! Missed you man! The dynamic duo is back in town. Great content as usual. My Calatrava 6119 feels like the perfect iteration. I once could not understand the appeal of this simple yet elegant line. But once you dig into its rich history a distinct story appears. I could make a whole collection just on Calatravas!
Is the 5227 always engraved in the inner part of the hunters case? Ive seen a few on chrono 24 with a clear mirror finish and come with papers. Wondering if they are legit
They really need to update the 5196 with a see through caseback. I love the 6119 but its not a proper replacement hobnail bezel and all. I just hope the new one isnt too big.
Hi Tim and Brian I’m new to Patek , in your great expertise what can say about Golden Ellipse Blue dial ref. 3748/001 , calibre 215 .and the movement. Thank you so much and more power. ! Ariel Vancouver BC Canada
The Patek 5524G Pilot looks very similar to the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special 40mm. Both have several similar features especially the arabic numerals. Did Patek copy the idea from Zenith?
Amazed that no time was given to the 5212a Weekly Calendar. A Calatrava case with amazing lugs that combines a first of its kind complication whilst maintaining a vintage appearance that targets tue modern man. A classic watch right right, that remains the most interesting offering in the current collection. I wonder where the classic watch will fit going forward. Who wears such a watch as the 6119r? As a 40 something, I personally can’t see an occasion to wear it. Does fashion do a U-turn at some point from steel sports back to classic gold?
I was lucky enough to get one from an AD here in the UK. Just recently I've decided it's time for a change of strap-style from the factory brown calfskin. Right now I've got it on (I kid you not!) a vintage Bond Nato strap. I guess it wouldn't warm the heart of Thierry Stern to see this - but it actually looks surprisingly good :-P (I think olive green calf or goat leather is the way to go - but it's looking like I might have to have one custom made.)
@@antg.3846 not entirely correct….at least I don’t think it is. The 6007a limited edition is a Calatrava and in steel, hence the ‘a’. If I’m correct, technically any round case is classed as a Calatrava case design. On the official Patek website they do have a specific section for Calatrava watches. As you say, they are all in precious metal, yet many other watches in other categorizes are described to have a Calatrava cases (eg 5327 Grand Complication) It would be good to hear an expert define what it really means to be ‘Calatrava’.
@@antg.3846 Logically speaking you would have to be right. But the words "Patek Philippe", "steel", and "cheap" haven't gone together very easily since the 1950s. Nowadays it is even referred to as "the king of metals" in some Patek circles. Personally I prefer steel (genuinely!) just because its greater robustness makes for a better everyday wearer. Unfortunately this argument is now usually met with a skeptical and sardonic smile by Patek ADs... I got incredibly lucky when I was on vacation last summer - I was in precisely the right place at precisely the right time and was able to do a deal involving other purchases.
Show concept number 842. This channel is lost. It has great technical information aspects and a variety of watches to enjoy. However, the channel, you know, has absolutely no direction of, you know, foundation.
You know... Watchbox doesn't really care that much about RUclips. It is not its main form of income unlike your other watch RUclips "influencers" out there. As you said, their channel is primarily to inform potential clients on technical info, history etc of the timepieces.
Tim is a legend but his choice of the watch he’s wearing is incomprehensible! Talking about Patek Philippe while wearing a hideous plastic watch! 🤦🏻♂️
Nah. That is just snobbery. There is enjoyment to be had at every price level and wearing something cheap is a good counterpoint to the subject at hand. I like the irreverence.
@@NineHellHeaven I didn’t say Tim should wear a super expensive watch! How about a simple mechanical watch from Ball, Hamilton or Longines? Or a vintage watch… A nice watch to go with the occasion!
Important topic and a lot of knowledge in the room but : Tim’s business casual look ruined by the lime green System 51, particularly out of place when discussing Patek His boss less dressed up than his employee, here again, not appropriate when talking Patek Armchairs that a 10 year old girl would pick for her bedroom. Guys, style matters.
The Boys are back in Town! Good to see you 2 together again More please!
I miss the live desk format they used to team up on.
@@robertschmidt9584 Great double Act Robert I love that format !
Thanks 🙏🏼 Tim! I missed Brian and his comments about Patek. I love them. Please do more like this!
My favorite Calatrava is the 5296. Perfect contemporary version of the reference 96 with a contemporary size of 38mm.
Great watch talk!

I’ll never be able to afford a Patek, but could watch the two of you all day!
Great episode guys
Very informative video! I’ve always been a huge fan of the Calatrava line. I really love the latest releases!
More of these. Tim without upside down sunglasses is a refreshing and appropriate upgrade. bravo Tim!
Tim- If you're wearing your System 51, I love your choice under the circumstances of this shoot. Good content gentlemen. Thank you.
this is a VERY great video! very articulate and interesting. Thank you!

Ref.77 did technically come before Ref.96, albeit a rectangular piece rather than a calatrava.

Much more pleasant than watching two hands move about on my screen. Great content.
Surprised you didn’t mention any of the calatravas with complications like the 5212. Really enjoyed the show and looking forward to future episodes!
Hi guys, thanks for the great video! Just a question, is the 5227G black dial a good investment in your eyes? Or it's too outdated? Thanks!
Excellent show! More of this please. But who picked those armchairs??
Great video! Waiting for the travel time watches
Whose home is this? Nice.

Brian Govberg must be rolling in money with the crazy watch market the past few years.
I wish they would do a Patek for women’s watches
I only clicked on this to see Brian's $5,000 dollar casual outfit...if he cuts his own lawn I'll eat my hat
Great show guys, I miss your live shows. 👍

The Calatrava HAS to be in precious metal. In steel it cheapens it a bit, no?
