Love it keep skills growing. I'm a 47 yr old finish carpenter and love to see younger men doing men work.. at 47 still pick up trick. Hats off to you gentlemen
Man, I’ve been really wanting to do one of these and so far this has been the nicest one that I’ve seen because of the top slide really built into it. You really need to put everything that you used in the description because I wanna make it exactly like yours.
I am a finish carpenter also cabinet builder (mostly finish now ? Pays more) . I am going to do that but I did build out an SUV back full of cabinets and a bed on top for a customer. The way I do those drawers is install your slides as u did! Then place your drawer about half in extend the slides out (slip a long 4’ shim under the drawer to keep it up off the bed from dragging maybe a 1/2”) then screw your extended slide to the drawer ! Bam! You did it 1st try in 30 min!
Amazing job. All great. The thing that up-ticked my heart. The ‘Lincoln Electric’ sticker. ‘41 or ‘42 my father worked for LE as a Welder. LE wrote a deferment letter for my Dad WWII - said he was essential. He was essential - he was so upset that they did that without his knowledge. He quit - he wanted to enlist, he did, Navy Fighter Pilot. He survived - so did the LE story.
iv been designing my truck bed for awhile so far this is the best. ill most likely use smaller wheels and do two layers of ply on the slide out but thanks for the help ill be sharing this vid as much as I can
You two did a nice job on the storage units. I must say that is one of the best designs I have seen. I want to make a set-up for my 2014 GMC van. I have shelves but at 66 years old climbing in and out to use them doesn't happen often enough, so everything ends up in a heap on the floor.
Come on now buddy I am 64 still work as a carpenter full time and jump, kneel, squat, and wear full bags (finish man) all day! I feel better now than I did at 50! Just loose weight , eat light and no cigarettes or booze! Don’t sell us “more mature “ guys short? Ohhhhh and Church on Sundays! Very very important!
@@zephyr1408 I'm not putting older workers down, I am the one with the health issues. Besides really bad arthritis in my knees and a torn something in my left knee, I do pretty well. When I am doing interior finish, I too work a good long day. I don't smoke nor am I overweight, 6' tall and 150 pounds, I don't drink either. I also eat fairly well with the diet my GI doctor has me on. COPD, chronic pancreatitis and severely blocked carotid arteries in my neck are what slows me down. I hope after my artery cleaning and knee repairs this winter I'll be doing better. I have a friend who has been building custom houses on his own for 30 years. He is 64 and has 8 carpenters who all, but one is over 60. His 2024 calendar is full. He just started telling people that he is not booking work for 2025, yet. I was doing great until I hit 65 then everything went to Hell.
Sick setup very well designed. Love that the slide runs flush to the tailgate, great design feature. Might have to build something similar I also need something as versatile!!
Looks awesome! I'd consider cutting out large center areas, so it's like a skeletal ribbed framework , thatll reduce the weight a ton but still be plenty strong and rigid
If I missed something, I would make the drawers so they lock with a key incase someone tries to break in at least your tools in the drawer will be saved and much harder to get to. Great work!
I've seen a lot of rollout drawer videos, and fellas, you've nailed it. Really Nice Job !! From the views I see, you must be around Castle Rock. I built many homes on and around Diamond Ridge many years ago. Keep it up!
Hey viewers, help Jerod out by hitting the thumbs up button. At the time I watched it so had 191 other people had watched it but only 31 gave it a thumbs up.
Hey, just wanted to say; you guys did awesome work, on sliding truck bed and drawers. I am gonna start soon building my own sliding truck bed with drawers, on 3500 gmc sierra 2006. I am gonna try to build yours system. Any details tips you would like to share, will be greatly appreciate. Thanks
Fucking awesome bruh! I like your style! Framers, no doubt and no apologies. I grew up framing with my dad and moved toward furniture making and curved stairs and I hope my drawers come out as good as yours. Real nice job and smart design.
Nice system but you're limited to hauling tools individually. I'd just do a roll out bed with mod boxes so I have the option of stacking and rolling my whole kit right to the worksite. Saves a lot of time going back and forth hauling tools.
I like your over all plan and it looks to be coming out well. You probably should have added a piece of thin plywood between your rollers and the box for the drawers. just to keep dust etc out of your drawers. One other thought Have you given any thought to the weight? I assume your trucks are 1/2 to which only gives you 1000 lbs. 3/4 plywood can weigh from 42 lbs up to 60 lbs. you could easily have half of your payload capacity before you put any of your gear in the trucks. Hopefully I haven't been too negative, yous have done a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I subscribed!!!
We haven’t noticed any issues with weight so far! I’ve even carried a steel beam in the back of it. I did upgrade to a slightly bigger truck and moved the drawers over though
Absolutely great work. I am curious about the way the angle iron worked out on your canopy clamps? It was hard to see in the final product shots. I'm going to do this build in the next few weeks and was wondering about any advice concerning keeping the rolling bed aligned and or not being able to just pull completely out.
It worked good for holding it down, the platform didn’t stay aligned perfectly always. Sometimes I’d have to push one side in a little bit, but it was never a hard process, and I never installed anything to keep it from sliding out, but the weight of it as it came to the end would pinch it against the angle iron and keep it in pretty well
that is awesome, I did something similar in the back seat of my 3/4 ton ford. How come you didn't take the topper off while working?? Just wondering, sick design, might copy that one day
If you were to construct them all over again, is there anything that you guys would do differently? I find myself wanting to know more about the way that the slide stops, since I didnt see much of anything showcased with that part of the build, or its final product. I think you briefly mentioned how it keeps from tilting up. Speaking of the slide, how do you keep it tracking straight in and out? Is the fixed casters all thats needed for that? No alignment mechanisms or channels for that at all? Any idea on its weight capacity, espesh fully extended? I havent seen much, if any, designs that address the sagging factor during heavy loads, unless they were just welded tray frames or similar. Look forward to your response, if you got some time. Thanks for sharing, regardless. Aloha
i probably wouldnt do the sliding bed on my next one. the capacity is determined by the drawer slides themselves, they say 500 pounds supposedly. i didnt incorporate anything to keep it from sliding out. it has enough weight on it to pinch and not fall out, but either way its nice to be able to take it out if i need to. i didnt incorporate any tracking for it, but i should have! can get slightly misaligned and makes you have to put it in just right to keep it square
Should have used angle iron to reinforce the top deck..... overtime just from sitting the wheels will leave indentations causing difficulty opening and closing like little speed bumps
How is the top holding the weight while you pull it out? Not much explaining on that part. Im trying to build something like that, too, and I'm struggling with the top
Hi! The slide right now is just held in with friction, honestly if I have a scenario where it becomes an issue I’ll add a latch of some sort to lock if i need, also the sides are held in with screws at an angle into the base
Wassup bro I’m also a framer in Colorado. Mostly SUMMIT County and PARK County but I’ll go anywhere pretty much. Can you give me the link to those bed slides please? Thanks! FRAME ON!!!
Nice build but I can't seem to understand how someone in the trades won't need space to hall a miter or table saw especially with a gravity stand attached. Plus Im rarely parked close enough to the work at hand to store handheld tools in the truck. I have a garage storage tote that weighs atleast 60kg with all my cordless dewalt tools that I walk on the jobsite with.
Love how realistic the video is. Everything down to using the job site as the fab shop.

I like this build out. I might copy it only make a second set of drawers to be able to swap with camping gear instantly.
most of the others did the drawers, but the slideout top bed really eye opening

Nicely executed! FYI you'll want to periodically lubricate the latching mechanism on the drawer slides, I use garage door lube. Hope that helps!

1/2” for the bottom, and double 1/2” for the top! Everything else is 3/4

This came out amazing! But I’m so curious what the secret tools are now….. lmao also what state is this? Looks beautiful.
Let’s just say they’re red 🤫
How are the drawer slides holding up? Would you suggest doubling the slides? 2 sets per drawer, or is the single 500lb set enough?
How did you guys attach your sidewalls and center stanchion with the rollers to the bottom plywood(the first plywood you put down so snug)?

I have a removable bed liner in my ram 1500. Think I can leave it in or should I remove it to build this?
I’m lazy and would probably leave it in hahah
How’d these hold up? I was going to make some drawers with the same slides you used here.
Sick!
I watched it again and saw the brackets used for the side panels.
What are your little nail plates called. Gussets
Awesome build, but by today's prices I would triple the value of my truck using that much lumber. 😂😂😂 Really great job though.
How many plywood did you purchase to make the whole project done
Can you build a list of all materials used??
5 sheets of 1/2” sanded plywood,
4 sheets of 3/4 sanded plywood,
2 sets of heavy duty 60” drawer slides
21 smooth rolling casters (about 2-1/2 inches tall)
2 pull handles, heavy duty
2 3’ pieces of angle iron 2”
1 16’ 2x6
1” screws
1-5/8” screws
Where you use the 2x6 in your video?
Is there any other thing that I can use instead of that wheel for the top slide
Are you still using this setup? Are you still happy with it? Looking to replicate this for my 08 ram 1500
