Every RUclips “how to” video should be like this. Detailed just enough with on point narration. Great job not only on making this video but the drawer slide is awesome.
The only thing I might have done a little differently is used pocket hole screws instead of screwing into the end grain of the plywood. But you did a great job and really appreciated all the attention to detail. Funny at the end you mentioned trying to hit the 1k subs goal. Video is only 2 years old and you're a good bit ahead of that. High five. Going to check out some more of your videos now
I like how you are showing your thinking process, as you design it. I don't need that, but I know lots of others do. So many RUclipsrs merely show you that THEY know how to do a thing, without really explaining enough for others to replicate what they did.
Amazing job! I've been trying to make a double drawer for my Ute tub, and I've been struggling, yet you made it look like it's the easiest thing in the world! Will be using this video as a reference for my own tub sliders as it's just far superior then the way I've been doing it!
Great job, very concise and I like your attention to detail. I've been searching for a plan for my Tundra so I can build a camper bed on a sliding drawer system so I can sleep in the truck when I'm towing my boat on long trips to avoid hotel expenses. Thanks for the knowledge!
Thanks! I can't take full credit for that... I was talking to my dad on the phone (a 50 year contractor) talking about ripping these slots with the router and he recommending doing them as a full sheet first so I would get perfect alignment of the slots later down the line during assembly. I guess you learn a trick or two with that many years under the belt.
Very high quality build, would be more convenient if the top of the box had hinges so drawer contents could be accessed from inside when camper is closed up for the night.
I’ve been researching all day on how to build these. I have to say your system is the cleanest, esthetically pleasing and really the nicest. I have a Tacoma, but do you have a video on the Tundra? I want to build a full two drawer system. I’m gonna build a dog barrier on top, so my family can take our 4 dogs camping. Anyway, great content, cheers.
Thanks so much. Hope it will be helpful. I didn’t make a video for mine. My tundra was the first one I’ve done and focus just on figuring it out. This Tacoma was the second one. You can in theory just double what I did. Just take the distance between your wheel well and split it in half. It will force you to make your drawers a certain width only. Don’t forget to account for thickness of plywood and drawer sliders. About a 1.5” per side. Hope it works out well for the family and dogs.
This is exactly what I want on my tundra after I pick up my GFC v2 next month but I am not handy at all with wood work. Lol. Will def give this a shot, thanks for the informative video.
Nice congrats on the V2 purchase. Yeah give it a try. Even if you mess up the wood part you can still use the drawer slides again if you hire someone to rebuild the wood part. Sure, you will have wasted some time and money on the wood but the expensive slide part will be reusable.
Building out my 2020 TRD Off-road. Great video great storage idea. I will be borrowing some of your design. Love the simplicity of your tutorial. Good luck in your future endeavors.
Great proyect, Actually the most usefull so far (searching for DIY versions of the Decked system). Now, A couple things I saw that I personally think could be better... The handle for the drawer is great, but if it gets stuck in the close position good luck (a simple combination of too much weight and the truck facing down an incline can do it easily). I think you could moove the slide rails up and place 2 simple handles (like a cabinet handle or something like that) so that when you gran the handles you can unlock the slides with your pinky and pull inmediatelly with both hands or with one if you prefer. The other one I see is that in my personal opinion, You could make it slimer (like lower) in order for it to allow as much of the original functionality of the bed as possible. why? just because having taller sides on the bed makes it easyer to place some things there without being worried about them falling out easily. Adding to it I would personally duplicate the support bracing you made for those "ammo can" cubbies in the other side, just for convenience because that way you can add annother large piece of ply and have a flat top on the same level if you want to or need it. Personally, I'm gonna do it very similar to your proyect for my dads build just so he can have all his stuff available, secure, dry and out of the way when he doesn´t need it. But keeping as much functionality in the bed as possible.
Thanks man. I have considered making them as a side business but unless I’m able to have them cut out on a automated system it’s so time consuming to custom make each system. But if I change my mind I’ll let ya know.
Wow thanks a lot. I didn’t film the one for my tundra. I hadn’t really started my RUclips channel deal at that point. But it’s pretty similar to this Tacoma just double the drawer space. They are 60” locking slides from OVIS if you google them.
I wanna do this but include a second piece up top on hinges that I could fold it out and create a flat sleeping platform. My yota I picked up yesterday only has the 5ft bed, I need every inch I can get to sleep in that thing lol
Nice work great descriptive video on how to! .I would want a hidden drawer in the big drawer for camera gear long expensive items if thieves cant see them they cant take them.
Great work, I need something like this for my Tundra, I have a ARB refrigerator and two drawer storage boxes, I need the side boxes as the fit kits that ARB makes don’t fit the Tundra or even mount to their smallest drawers that I have!
@@prospectoverland , I have an ARB drawer system with my ARB refrigerator that I’m going to use as the center, I will use wood and carpet to fill in around the ARB boxes, with some side storage.
This is great. Appreciate the time to make this. How did you attach the base to the actual truck bed though? Thats what I'm struggling to figure out with my 5' Taco. Thanks
Have you ever thought about doing one that has a 2nd set of slides mounted to the top cover so that you can slide the top tray out for anything you store on top of the drawers not in the drawers.
Yeah there are a lot of very cool, more modular options with more slides. I have never attempted it and the guy who’s truck this is didn’t need that system.
Nice work! Wondering about weight, cost (drawer slides are expensive) and availability/cost of Baltic Birch ply these days compared to a Decked System for Standard two drawer applications.
Thanks. My two drawer system I had in my tundra was heavy for sure. The one big down side. The ply wood and the drawer slides are not light weight items for sure. But….so much more storage space than a decked system. I measured the interior space of decked vs interior space of mine and it was a big difference. Plus decked system had slanted drawer walls which I wanted square/vertical walls.
Good points. I had a single drawer in my 2006 Tundra. 1/2” ply with 2x6 drawer sides. 75 lbs for drawer, more for the deck which was 2x4’s on the bedliner pockets and 1/2” ply over. It worked but it all adds up.
Very nice build. Can you lmk what sliders and handle you are using and where to get them. Thank you! Great build! I'm going to do the same thing for my Tacoma. Exactly what I want for when I get my GFC.
Hey thanks for checking out the build. Keep me posted on how yours goes. Hopefully these links below work for ya. Make sure to see if 60" works for your bed length. They make the same slide in different lengths. a.co/d/ip47AbC www.ovisonline.com/60-Heavy-Duty-Locking-Drawer-Slide-FR5400-L-P1860.aspx?gclid=CjwKCAjwzNOaBhAcEiwAD7Tb6J_SDr-scZzk6imNNkgmdCbJ24e9qNPILmaNe8b-cd_zApEjEH_DQRoCmncQAvD_BwE
Clean job! Do you have video on your truck drawers? Did you use same length slides 60"? Im looking to build same drawer system as you did on Tundra and i like the way you did it.
Every thing looks great. One question the draw slides, where can they be bought. I do live in Canada and just happen to have a Tacoma with the 6ft box. Your finished product looks very professional .
This is a great build, thanks for sharing. Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but where can I purchase the drawer slides that you used? I have the same tacoma as the one in this vid.

Yeah not a bad idea. Maybe even just use that grab bar as the handle to pull the drawer out as well and skip the spring loaded black handle in the middle. Or just go with only one locking slide. I just wasn’t sure of one lock would be secure enough but maybe it would be.

This guy makes it look easy. He is really good with his hands. Impressed to seem how much drilling/cutting was free handed.
Haha thanks. I don’t have fancy tools or much room so gotta make it happen with what I’ve got.
It's nice to look at a man with golden hands
Man this is an incredible simplistic drawer build. I’ll pretty much do exactly this for my truck after seeing this
Thanks so much! Appreciate ya checking it out. Good luck with the project.
Me too. Having the half bed still full height is key for me!
Hell, I’ve had this truck over a yr and never knew I had it until your crystal clear video. Thanks!
Excellent!! You made it look not easy but gave the novice a great blueprint. Superb video work which really made it enjoyable to watch.
Thanks a lot. Appreciate ya watching. Hope it helps and good luck with the project.
This a professional grade installation and fit and finish. Impressive
Thank you!!! Appreciate it.
Great job. I'd like to see a list of the products you used in the build though. Nicely done.
The only thing I might have done a little differently is used pocket hole screws instead of screwing into the end grain of the plywood. Well ... I guess I'll sell my table saw.
Nice work! Just what I needed to see before my build.
Hahaha. A nice table saw sure would have made things easier than my homemade straight edge system.

Man! I regret buying my Truck Vault after watching this! Great work my dude!🤘

Nice build. I like that trick of ripping the drawer sides after routing the divider slots. Less set up and more accurate. Good work.
Thanks! I can't take full credit for that... Forsure man, give it a shot. Just take your time over a few days and measure a lot. It’s just wood, you can always get some more.
Just ordered my drawer slides.

Saving this build for later. Great stuff

Nice drawer build. Definitely made it look easy!

Thanks, They are a dream for organizing
i need a friend like you. great job!
Hahaha thanks. I wish I had the time and space to make these for people. I’ve had a lot ask me to build them one.
great build. just what I need for my 3rd gen 4runner.
Thank you!
Looks great, feel like the carpet should’ve been glued but overall a really neat job 👍
Thank you!
Maybe. Personally I wanted to be able to remove it easy and change it or replace it without dealing with glue.
Thanks for watching
This is a good video for me to follow step by step. Thanks!
Awesome. Glad I can be helpful

Nice work, man.

Side note. One year ago goal was 1k Subscribers. I see you have over 5k now. Congrats!
Was it really. Dang! Thanks for the fact check. Pretty cool. Hope to keep it going. Thanks for the support.

Very Nice! Where is your build video for the double drawer in your Tundra?
I didn’t do a video of that build. It was my first one and figured I should practice once before I film it. So this Tacoma video was my second one.
This is really kick ass man! Could i suggest an irig for your iPhone recordings and a mic? It would help a ton
Thanks.
I’ll check out what that product is, thanks.

Could you link the two latches together using a riser bar or small angle iron or something? Other than that, pretty cool 👍
Yeah not a bad idea. Maybe even just use that grab bar as the handle to pull the drawer out as well and skip the spring loaded black handle in the middle. Or just go with only one locking slide. I just wasn’t sure of one lock would be secure enough but maybe it would be.
