Kenan, the driver was the character for me in this episode, loved his English accent and his story telling, I also love traveling the world and i had the chance to live im New Caledonia, which is very similar to PNG, road blocks, conflicts and even roads that are prohibited for outsiders to pass through, looking forward for part two

In PNG highlands culture if you are from the same tribe and one of your tribesman comes with friends and you don't let them pass. Its very disrespectful you don't do that to your fellow tribesman. When he took his hat off in frustration you know that shit was going to go down when Kurt's friend says (translation) 'Phillip are you looking at me as an outsider?? ' - as in Phillip ill eff you up. haha

You’re truly making yourself out to be a travel legend, with the places you go and how you document the place, people, and culture. Especially how you walk the line between assimilating into the culture while also holding your own as an individual. Such unique content, as very few would do the things you do, especially as a solo traveler a majority of the time! Just be safe out there.
I enjoy watching these adventures but sometimes I worry for his safety, these are genuinely dangerous places. I guess Kurt doesn't have time to worry. True Legend.

Haven't been to my village in years and seeing Kurt taking the road (highlands highway) that goes there makes me full of happiness, joy and a longingness to go back. Safe travels brother
Bro what exactly are you guys? Mixed asian and black or plymesians or sum, or black? Also is it cold?
The people in the country itself are diverse and don't all look the same. We came through the south east asian human migration path, so we would be closer ancestors to south east asians than africans. PNG was a melting pot of different humans as it was used as a harbour for brave seafarers to launch voyages to establish other pacific islands. The people of PNG who live on the coast and surrounding islands have lighter skin and resemble polynesian and asian features more than the highlanders you see in Kurts video. The first group of humans who ventured from the coast to explore the highlands in PNG would've evolved overtime to become darker as the unpredictable terrain would've secluded groups from each other, and also being closer to the equator with different diets would have an effect over thousands of years. All throughout south east Asia there's darker skin people too, referred to as negritos. Another fun fact is that most PNG people have 3%-6% denisovian dna.@@weheh2789

I worked for 5 years at Mt. Kare, just over the border to the north in Enga province.
One day the helicopter couldn't pick me up in Mt. Hagen so I flew from Hagen to Tari in a Twin Otter. I told my staff to MAKE SURE that my helicopter was waiting for me when I landed as I did not want to spend a lot of time on the ground alone in Tari.
Kong kongs like me are pretty noticeable, at least we were, 25 years ago.........
Of course when we landed my helicopter wasn't there.....
As I waited I saw school buses and police vehicles filled with Hulis with guns racing around the airstrip. I asked a Huli fellow who was also waiting what was happening and he said "They've burned down the police station.".
Even he didn't look very impressed.........
10 minutes later my helicopter arrived and I flew to Mt. Kare and had a word with my staff...............

@@AirborneAnt Yes Astrophotography is such a cool hobby. I just finished collecting enough light for my next Picture. It´s going to be the Wizard Nebula - NGC7380.I gathered almost 20 hours of exposure time. Now I need to sort through the data and process a final image ;) I love photographing the night sky with telescopes and all kinds of lenses. I have a telescope setup in my backyard. The tripod stays outside all year... the rest gets taken down and put up every time I do some astrostuff. Have you been stationed in germany? Airborne Infantryman sounds awesome too. I bet it´s way more exciting than sitting in the garden with the telescope haha!
