  • * There is no better truck, it is all preference, the easiest way to know is to try, this video is just to explain the concepts between the two*

    This is the best explanation of rake I’ve seen so far. It’s honestly a pretty hard thing to explain or understand. The best way to understand it for me was having a set of cal 2s and Paris V3s. The difference can be felt on flat ground.

    Great video but I feel like it was cut short and there should be a part 2 describing real world effects like hairpin turns, etc. also some personal opinion and preference never hurts

      We tried to stay away from personal opinion as much as possible, its not about what we ride. Because I assure you my trucks are so janky loose most people wouldn't want to ride them. As for real life effects, no run is the same, I could tell you how they are on my hairpin but yours is completely different. Also this was more about the science of rake vs rakeless

    Awesome video. But I'm wearing headphones and the metal on metal bang is ear piercing. Thanks ❤

    So what does the graph for a negative rake look like? Explain the "dive" feeling of the tuck.

    • @robbryan3044
      @robbryan3044 2 года назад +1

      Figured everything out the moment he finished drawing the second graph...and, honestly, it's super-simple (especially if you're into RC). With 'rakeless', turning is a "constant", meaning, as you turn (or, should I say "lean into a turn"), the 'degree of turn' is consistent with the 'degree of leaning'. With a positive rake, the more you lean into a turn, the 'degree of turn' increases. Likewise, with a negative rake, the more you lean into a turn, the 'degree of turn' decreases.
      The numbers I'm about to give are NOT *actual* numbers...I am ONLY using them as examples. Starting with a rakeless, or "straight", truck (which I will use as the "base"), if you lean...say...5 degrees, your 'degree of turn' could be 5 degrees. But, if you lean...say...10 (or 15) degrees, your 'angle of turn' would be 10 (or 15) degrees. Now, with a positive raked truck, if you lean 5 degrees, your 'angle of turn' might only be 2 degrees, a 10 degree lean might be 10 degrees of turn, and a 15 degree lean might be 20 degrees of turn. In other words, the 'degree of turn' INCREASES exponentially as the angle of lean increases. A truck with a negative rake acts in the exact opposite way, meaning that a 5 degree lean could produce 20 degrees of turn, a 10 degree lean 10 degrees of turn, and a 15 degree lean only 5 degrees of turn. In other words, the 'degree of turn' DECREASES exponentially as the angle of lean increases. In RC, this is referred to as "dual rate steering".

    Does one slide better than the other? I am just getting into freeriding, and I would like to know how rake and rakless effects slides. shanks...

    Confused. Is a positive rake more or less responsive when you 1st start to lean / turn as opposed to a rakeless truck.

  • @pittabueno
    @pittabueno 5 лет назад +2

    Rake (or axle offset) doesn't affect how much a truck turns when you lean a certain amount at all. The wheels go where the wheels gotta go when you lean. So... try again sober :)

    Nice vid, I ride París,.. I love the divey feeling, I live in NYC and I've literally swerved through cars because of my 150mm V2 50 degrees Parises. I tried my brother's drop through and it wasn't the same (considering also the trucks were way different)

    could you enlighten me and many others on how rake effects performance? lots of people say that you flip it and it changes the angle of the truck, which isnt correct. could you fill me in on that kinda stuff? cheers guys

    • @AndyThomson03
      @AndyThomson03 8 лет назад

      If you're still skating and still don't know, the reason they say it lowers the angle is because if you flip your hanger for negative rake, you get a more stable feel, so more like a 45° truck rather than a 50° truck. At least that's what I think is why.

    Wtf do you mean by "dive"? I know it's a common expression when describing some characteristic of the turning quality of trucks, but I still don't know what it means. To me it seemed like you were either a little high yourself, or have been recently lol..;-P
    In fact, your explanation of how raked trucks turn didn't help me a whole lot altogether, tbh.
    Do they actually turn in a kind of counter-progressive way - meaning that they turn most at the beginning of the lean and then progressively less the more you lean the board? Or am I way off here? Is it the other way around? Pleeeease do enlighten me! :-D

      The best way to notice the difference (for me) is riding Caliber and Paris.
      Paris (rake) feel more fluid and it feels like it turns more
      And the Caliber (rakeless) feels like it leans a little more and turns less.
