MSI Z490 MPG Per Core Overclock is Broken? Here's an Easy Quick 10700K 5.2Ghz Overclock - 360mm AIO

  • I'm back in the BIOS attempting a per core overclock, but MSI Z490 Per Core is "broken". Who's to blame, MSI, Intel, Microsoft? I dunno. Anyways, here's a quick easy 5.2Ghz Overclock for the 10700k. This is a continuation of the 5.1Ghz OC video. So watch that one first for other settings I didn't cover here. Not confirmed stable, but an easy starting point for you. I crash at low voltage, raise it .01V and it runs Cinebench R20. That's always the 1st test I run on an OC. I'm just messing around with my toy, so I recorded it. More videos coming. We're going to revisit the Lenovo IdeaPad 3, and I'll show before and after benchmark results since the upgrade. Please leave feedback if you'd like.Still working on my YT skills. I have a long way to go, and I should probably shorten my videos. Sorry about that. I'm not very consistent with my content yet, but good luck with your silicon. Just remember to have fun.

This video does jump ahead a little on settings. Go check out my 5.1Ghz OC video for settings that aren't shown here. I hope to maybe give some confidence to new OCers with these run throughs. There's more coming. I can get more in depth in future videos. My apologies if I started in the middle in this one. Just know, there's nothing scary about overclocking. You just gotta do it. Just make sure you have adequate cooling, and monitor your core, and vrm temps. Do that, and you're golden.

If you want per-core-count OC to work as intended, you need C-States ENABLED! If non of the cores go to idle, the system will always assume that all cores are needed and remain on the all-core clock, which is basically the lowest clock you have set in bios.

Small tip, the ring eats voltage, if you need to bump up the voltage to insanity try dropping the ring speed. So the pro is you can clock higher maybe, cons you increase latency whats bad for memory oc

Friend, I have the 10700k and MSI Z490-A Pro and just got stability with this settings: Per core multiplier 51, Avx Offset -1 (that’s because I work on Revit and rendering on it uses avx), Vcore 1,33V and LLC3. I also blocked power draw at 220W. I’m running it with a Cooler Master ML240L V2 and it seemed pretty stable for every day use and rendering until now. God bless you!

Intel says the max. is 4.7 GHz for all cores- single core can go up to 5.1 GHz and more if you were lucky with your unit. I got my 10700KF cooled by 240 aio, same mainboard up to 5 GHz, benchmark ok, but in the stresstest not stable. For everyday use I am testing at x48 mult. and a bit higher V, but variable cores (!), wich works really quiet, saves energy and when it's needed the first core goes up to 4.8 GHz. RAM is only 3200 MHz: around 1300 single- 13k multicore in cinebench R23, 15k in timespy benchmark result with my 3080 blower in 4K is ok I guess

Super sick setup! I like it. I have a 3070 and I love it. I haven't been able to find a 3080 for msrp yet. It's so hard to say what it could be without having my hands on it to try and replicate. But, Valorant, is a multiplayer game that may have hiccups due to your connection to the internet. I'd suggest trying "local" campaign gameplay (a single player game) to see if you get dropped frames or stuttering. Or run Time Spy, or some other graphics benchmark to see if your results are typical to other results. Going off of your example, if I were to try to attribute the issues to something. I'd take a wild guess that it may be due to temperatures. Have you adjusted your GPU fan curve? GPU performance "efficiency" is directly tied to temperatures. What CPU cooler are you using. How much RAM do you have? If 2 sticks of RAM, are they in the correct slots? Just a few things to check into. Let me know, I'm curious.

I hate to ask this, but did you remove the cover from the CPU cooler plate before mounting it (I've heard of people forgetting so just checking)? Are you locking the voltage to about 1.325V to 1.33V? If yes to those questions... Hmm. Temps are directly tied to voltage, and if everything is installed correctly, it may just come down to your specific CPU. Some run higher V without putting off as much heat. I'm learning that my CPU may not be typical. I think I got a little lucky. My gaming temps max around 62C and average about 54C. I do not think your CPU is a bottleneck. It's plenty of CPU. Running Cinebench (if you're using it to benchmark) will push your temps up high in short bursts, but it should level off after a little bit.

Ah ok. That seems totally normal to me. Mine stays a little cooler at load, but I think you're good. And the fps drops may be typical too. As long as you don't notice stutters you're good. I would turn on vsync if you have a vsync monitor. Unfortunately your fps is only as good as your monitor's refresh rate. For example, if you have a 240hz monitor, 240 fps is perfect. If 144hz, 144fps is perfect. I game on 1440p at 144hz, and I'm happy with 140fps in a multiplayer game at 1440p. I play Modern Warfare maxed at 1440p and hover right around 145 to 150fps.
