      It's not just a problem of bad casting. And Discovery's casting is the worst I've ever seen. Very weak actors in the main roles, incredibly inferior to Patrick Stewart, for example. The trouble with directing and producing, when there is no one on the set who would tell you how to behave in front of the camera. Weak actors are superimposed on weak directing and you get a modern Star Trek. Expensive and stupid.

      @@GetterRay agree to disagree. captain was the leader, sure, but up until Discovery, the franchise was ALWAYS about an ensemble cast. the only reason why TOS had focus more on Kirk, Spock and Bones, was due to CBS in the 60's pumping the brakes on Gene's multicultural depictions, so the rest of the ensemble had forced limitations put on the show, limiting their time on screen, despite Roddenberry's efforts against producers.

    • @GetterRay
      @GetterRay 29 дней назад +1

      @@dustinherk8124 Yes, it was an ensemble cast, but the Captain was the main protagonist. He was a protagonist, and he was the main one who would be in 99% of episodes. Even in TOS, Kirk was clearly the main protagonist and Spock and Bones were his sidekicks. The only reason you're arguing this point is to make a point against STD, but being a historical revisionist about how the old shows worked isn't the way to do it. Having an ensemble cast and having a main protagonist, one who is more important than the rest, who gets more screen time than the rest, who is in a position of power an authority above the others, is not mutually exclusive.
      The problem isn't in the principal, its the execution. Sisko was literally black space jesus and yet his arc was handled perfectly. Michael is a poor immitation of him. Its not always the case that old trek did something and STD did it differently. Sometimes it does the same thing and just does it worse.

Furthermore, the Federation can now make golems (Hello! Picard and Gray!). Why didn't they mention this to Moll and La'ak?!! Again, what was the point of this effing season?!

    The worst part of this is that it COULD have been a decent show from the get-go. I believe Grin has mentioned this, but it should've taken place 25 years after DS9. "Burnham" is Sisko and Kasidy's child who is burdened living up to her famous father's name. The "Klingons" from S1 are the Hur'q, who have returned and are mounting an invasion of the Federation. All of the anachronistic technology would be explained by the setting, and it would not ravage existing lore (at least not as much). This would not have solved everything, but it would be a start.

      To create a timeline where he could have whatever he want happen, JJ Abrams had a star go supernova, the explosion traveling through subspace, to destroy Romulus and Remus, off-screen. The people at CBS have just been following in his footsteps.
      Of course, some other people might pick up the pieces and make some stories of value out of the mess, some of the time. In the case of the Hobus Supernova, Cryptic Studios made it into the inciting incident for the main overarching story for most of _Star Trek Online_ , the lead up to and execution of the Iconian War. But you can't expect current-day writers to be able to come up with anything even a fraction so grand. They even borrow designs and aspects from an MMORPG, only to discard and replace them later.

    And I have to admit, while the notion of seeding the universe with the germs of your genetic code and assemblable pieces of a last message, to serve as one final testament, a memorial to a the first species to find itself in a cold, lonely universe is very touching, even romantic or noble...it does kinda fall on it's face a bit when there _was_ intelligent, non-humanoid life in the galaxy. At least some of it even friendly. Like all those silicon-based beings we've seen over the decades. Or at least some of the insectoids. Or the aquatics, energy beings, gaseous form beings, plant people, Kulkulkan...
