Is Tested being paid by The Wand Company for these videos?
Im shocked the website looks like it hasn't been updated in more than a year.
I'm a little bit jealous right now, since I am raised on TNG, I got the TR-590 IX from efx and I had to imagine what it can do. You here, got the full monty with all bells and whistles... I am tempted to get one, even though I never found the original series tricorder that interesting until now....
Love the work tested team ❤🔥
@@hippopotamus86 - No, never.
"Cosplay was the process of pouring your body into a narrative that meant something to you." "It's a ludicrous object. And its existence feels like a spectacular nod to the stories that build us." Adam, this is why what you do; who you are, is so validating. You channel and give currency to the relationship sci-fi fans have to these treasured imaginary worlds that we grew up with. Your passion for this material validates what many of us have felt our whole lives - that these books, these shows, these comics were/are/will aways be more than mere stories. They liberate our imaginations to go places and experience things that are beyond our everyday experience. I am so glad you do what you do. For me, I was cosplaying Star Trek as a child of the 1970's long before "cosplay" was part of the vernacular. To us, a 9v battery was a Type 1 phaser. A metal Surcrets box was a communicator. And those metal flip top Band-Aid boxes were our tricorders. But this beautiful, shockingly functional replica prop touches on the same joy we exerienced with those crude stand-ins of my childhood.
Cosplay is an inherited word from Japan (Kosu-pure). Entered english in the 90s first with Anime fans… then spread wider
.
Nerding out over gadgets Adam is my favorite Adam.
I’m not a collector of replicas but $300 for something of this detail and quality is well worth it for Trek fans!
Yeah, same here, i like Star Trek, mostly the Borg era (because it is my name and i like cyborg stuff, plus Picard is my favorite captain), but this is a beauty, and i would definitely buy it if the stock is plenty for me stumble upon one.
But i see others talking about it probably costing more than that (500+) when it eventually goes into production, which will probably be true.
No way, this is only 300 USD? That's a friggin' steal.
@@ZesPak From The Wand Company website: “We’re aiming for a recommended retail price of $300 to $350 USD”.
@@ZesPak it was mentioned early in the development that was their target ... but I seriously think that it will have to cost a good deal more .. and rightly so
Probably $400-450. Right around a no for me.
$350, sure if I can buy direct, and not some jacked up price on ebay.
Going boldly where no prop has gone before!
Not into Star Trek. But that’s a lot packed into that. And it’s fun watching Adam geek out.
My mate Adam is a science teacher, from time to time when his questions to class are not receiving the hoped response, he will quietly get his model tricorder out & walk round with it , waiting to be asked what he’s up to he responds “ ...just scanning for life forms” god bless great teachers👍😀
“There is no intelligent life here.”
As a retired teacher (30+ years, elementary thru university), this just made me crack up. Your mate and I are kindred souls! Teaching will either drive one crazy, or make one find one’s true self. Please say hi to your mate for me ❤.
I've been on the list to get info about this for years! Can't wait for it to come out! Looks amazing!
Same... I actually panicked when I saw the title of this video, I was sure they'd started preorders and I'd missed my notification! 😱
This is a damn masterpiece of prop building.
This is what You get when people produce something out of pure love and care. It is an amazing prop, congrats.
As someone who is in the very beginning stages of a small business, I am loving all the information I am learning I can use for the product I am about to release. Incredible content.
This goes up and beyond. Absolute insanity. What a time for props. Incredible.
This makes me feel like a kid again. I'm blown away by the quality and care that was put into making this!🤩👏🏾Hats off to Chris + The Wand Company and many thanks to Adam for always posting the most awesome content (one of my fav channels). I just got cued for the pre-order and I'm stoked! LLAP🖖🏾🌌
The moment I got the email from the wand company saying you was showing the Tricorder in a video I was so hyped and my god it was worth the wait. It's so beautiful and accurate and the fact it's actually functional blows my mind. I remember having the toy version in the 90s and loved it but naturally imagining it to work for real and now that time is near for me to own a real one.
When I was working at ATL, now a division of Philips Medical, they were developing the "hand held" diagnostic medical ultrasound system named Sonosite ( DARPA funded project), which is now a division of Fujifilm. Not really handheld, but the size of a laptop computer of the time (1997-1999). At the time, we were all comparing it to the medical instruments from Startrek. They did amazing things, it is now available as something that might be considered hand held. They were taking what the full size ultrasound systems had on 4-8 large circuit boards on a single custom chip. It was amazing work.
What a magnificent object! CHILLS running down my spine, CHILLS.
As a big fan, this is one of the most amazing, beautiful things I’ve ever seen!! A huge round of applause to everyone who worked on this!
Great segment . Relived my childhood long ago. Thanks
Wow this is really outstanding. I've been subscribed to their emails for a while and have enjoyed following along, but seeing it like this in action is just a JOY!
6:10 That was sat down very fiercely. Guy looks at Adam like ...."um..."
Regardless of your love for Star Trek OG the amount of love and craftsmanship into this object is majorly impressive. People still do care about stuff and work hard to make quality products.
Ok the sounds settled it. I need one
I love the Wand Company.
I have two TOS Star Trek Phasers and two of their communicators.
I keep one of each in a lit up display box and the other two for cosplay.
I will definitely be buying a Tricorder once they are available.
I used to build models and do a bit of kit bashing, so I love watching your builds, but I also love the tests and props videos, too. I suffer from bad osteoarthritis, and my eyes are not what they used to be, I had to pack up building models, so now I collect vintage and new sci-fi vehicles, spaceships, and figures.
Thank you so much, Adam.. For producing the best channel on RUclips. 🖖
4:28 for the line drawings there's so many aesthetics to draw from just in the title sequences. Star trek: enterprise used conventional styles, historical davinci, and then star trek:discovery has a visually interesting x-ray-esque art style that gives depth.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Incredible. My inner child is more delighted then he was on Christmas morning!
Wow. Yet i wonder when ParagonFX will come forward with their Joi Emanator, maybe Adam can invite them to show of it's features.
OMG! That tricorder is fantastic! Going on my wish list.
Now that is truly the best replica of TOS Tricorder ever.. Even though today's smart phones are capable of performing virtually all of the functions of this technically large iconic and influential prop. I can appreciate the realization of all of the Star Trek TOS props just look at today's computers, smart phones and laser tools and weapons were all in some ways, inspired by Star Trek TOS!!
Love the revamped work space.
This is awesome! I remember watching TOS when it came on. I must have one for my collection when it is available.
The wand company are just nerd gods at this point of how far they go to make their products ! wows !
Gorgeous. That is by far the best tricorder I've ever seen.
i’ve had my name on the list since they first announced this. the tricorder is one of the best and most iconic pieces science fiction ephemera that has ever been dreamt up, and i absolutely cannot wait until i have mine in my hands
This is the type of prop where all I can say is "Shut up, and take my money!"
Glad to see this project is on course and close-ish to release.
I would have preferred the TNG Tricorder - but this is neat..!
While it's fat and espcially the screens....TNG Tricorder needs to be a thing.
Been waiting years for this!!
LOL, I remember using a plastic Tie-tac box as a communicator and a GE cassette recorder as a Tri-corder. Looks great.
Ages ago, I was operating a data-logging terminal that used what looked like over-sized 'coin batteries' for non-volatile storage.
The disks in the tricorder are a close match to the data-coins in size.
THat is FREAKING AWSOME!!!!!! I LOVE it! I want one! I MUST HAVE ONE!!!!!!
this would bring your cosplay to a whole new level
Holy smokes - this is AMAZING!!!!
That is very, very nice. Star Trek was the first multi-media to grace my eyes & ears, and brain. So I have been an obsessive fan since I was about 6mos old. Lol
That's the nicest tricorder I've ever seen! Maybe it's not that far off in the future to when real, functional tricorders will be possible!
Oh my god! This is friggin' AMAZING!! As I'm watching the video, my estimated price kept increasing. First, $500, then $1000, then by the end, $2000 USD or more.
The attention to detail on this is insane.
that is so incredibly awesome, wow just wow so mega cool. I would love one
This is so cool beyond belief
I’m a fan of Star Trek, but I’ve never been “that kind” of a fan. However, this is seriously COOL.
Adam: "So, when can we expect to get our hands on this wonderful tricorder!?"
Wand: "We were thinking only 3 to 7 more years to finish up the fine points and make it perfect. Then we'll post a release date on our website that is a year away from the date that we promise"
I've been waiting for Wand to finish this up for so long that I fear I may die of old age before I actually get to buy one.
Definitely some bitterness here as well. It was great to see the Fallout Pip-Boy reveal, which I've already preordered, but come on, the show just aired on Amazon and you already have preorders up? While the Tricorder languishes for years? I get that $$$ talks, but that really feels like a bit of a kick to the yarbles.
I have been waiting so long for this......
This 62 year old kid wants this sooooo bad! Wow. Words fail, but what a wonderous device they have built.
Beautiful !!! Is there room for a good Flac player with a solidstate drive????? AMAZING LEVEL OF DEPTH OF FUNCTION. THANKS for creating this.
So cool.
THAT is AWESOME!
Wow!!! Amazing work!
So gorgeous. Adam's enthusiasm has made me want something I thought I was past wanting.
My only gripe: while the device's interface is beautiful, it uses the TNG LCARS typeface instead of the typefaces that were actually used in TOS, which are only different enough for a graphic designer to notice. ;)
As i watch i am torn between wanting them to get on with it and geek out over the packaging!🤣🤣🤣
That's so cool and as I am a child of the 70s I think I need this to go with my phaser ..beem me up Scotty
This has been well worth the wait.
This is so much fun. such wonderful imagination and craft. And, re Spock's backwards tricorder, I noticed that too. But I'm fine with it, for Spock is a contact telepath, and that applies to machines too, like his mind meld with Nomad. I expect he doesn't have to read it visually, indeed it may be specialized for Vulcan use, telepath-friendly. Plus the tricorder seems to scan all around at once, it's not localized or narrow-beamed (that's what McCoy's medical scanner is for) so you can point it 'backwards' all you like.
This is amazing. My love is for TNG, so if they every start making TNG replicas, I am sold!
This is unbelievable! I wont be able to afford this, but it's absolutely great!
This is pretty frakin' cool!!
What a work of art!
They should also make a Saturday Night Live Tricorder, which you fold together of cardboard.. (For some of us, the SNL Star Trek is more Star Trek than Star Trek...). Obviously, some props were of higher quality than apparent through the media...
(It makes me think of the "Munsters", were the Munster Coach & the Drag-U-La, by George Barris, were (and still is), of absolute fabolous quality... they did not give that impression, but obviously the cars were produced to color-TV standard, but the series shot in b&w....
Use the same CAD files as for the full-monty prop, but just print it on cardboard for us SNL-Star Trek fans...
SPECTACULAR!!!!
This is AWESOME!!! 😀
Back in my youth I had the plastic model of tricorder communicator and phasor. wish I had it now, or not
No Emergency Beacon mode?!?
Well, even with that shortcoming, this will be a good addition to my collection.
Throwing my money at the screen!
Man I hope they make a tricorder phaser and communicator from the Voyager era too...
It's Official I'm a Nerd lol Started watching Star Trek in the Early 70s I was to young when it first came out I couldn't stay up late to watch had to wait for the afternoon reruns This tricorder is excellent
I and my fellow Star Trek fans have been waiting for this prop replica to be completed for years now. The 'vid didn't help matters, but I doubt it would have been released on time nonetheless. I'm content to wait, however, for the Wand Company to get it right, which definitely appears to (mostly) be the case...They do great work - I have their amazing phaser and communicator. But I think the charge port location is in a really bad spot . . . ! They should either have hidden it inside the bottom compartment, have it inductively charged via the stand just like the communicator, or have a cover to go over the external port to prevent lint from getting in there (especially so since if it's used as a cosplay, it'll rest against the hip, rubbing against clothing thereon . . .).
Can't wait to get mine!
OMG, why am I crying in delight? I’m not even a full fledged Trekkie! Just a 65 year old 8 year old…
im not no trekie, but im in love with that thing 😍
This was interesting. I watched the whole video even though I’ve never watched a single episode of Star Trek. Lol
It looks like a mini tv on a file cabinet. It does give one the desire to pull up an old episode just to see how close they got it though..🤔
The three buttons look very much like HO scale slot car wheels; Aurora Tjet, or more likely Tyco S.
Amazing
22:10 Interstellar Compass/GPS. 4D❤🎉
Oh, hell yes. Take my money!
Looks great , how many sound effects from the show does this Tricorder have ?
The disks are the same. Area determines absolute capacity, magnetic head gap and disk rotational speed with data format determines density of data.
Scared to ask how much it will cost....looks so awesome
I want this so badly, but I cannot imagine it being cheap enough for me to afford.
Hope they 'll make a tng tricoder and medical.tricoder too..
I hope the instruction manual has both English and Klingon. That would be epic.
Never watched startrek but this is insane
WOW!
Can't wait! My only 'niggle'... Still would have preferred it been in the same type hard-case as their other Star Trek TOS offerings. Definitely cost cutting at work here.
I wish they would re-issue the phaser.
WOW!
They had cassette tape recorders in the future!
Great piece. A working clock and calendar would be awesome as a display function. And, if there were a way to calculate it, the corresponding stardate for what it would actually equate to in real-time today. I don't know for sure, but it might have to count down backward to zero hour of when cannon stardate time begins in universe. Does anybody out there know what today's stardate would be?
When they hold it, they feel like Yeoman Johnson, for a maximum of 50 minutes.
Take my money!!!
This is a great prop, but I'm just as interested in a practical working model, complete with working sensor array.
In other words, it's time to start engineering a working model, perhaps using a smartphone computer module inside, with SSD inside the little disks.
The medical model can include a pulse oximeter, IR thermometer, EKG sensor, etc.
But even the prop replica is really cool.
Did I miss the famous tricorder scanning sound??
But does it have a tachyon detector? Not having that was my main complaint about the Mk. 1 tricorder. Made it really hard to figure out how to get back to the 23rd century.
Please tell me this is something us mere mortals can possibly afford? I'm afraid to even click on the link I'm afraid to discover that it's something that's so prepostracy expensive that someone like me could never dream of having one
Maybe I should have a EDC flashlight
