thanks for talking about AG1, as most people/influencers promoting it have just jumped on the band wagon. As with a lot of powdered 'superfoods', it contains a high level of lead (2,200+ ppb lead for an average daily serving). Although it might be within the 'legal' daily lead limit (there is NO safe level of lead in the human body), I would never take it for this reason alone. Excellent evaluation. AG1 also uses proprietary blends, which even by the most generous interpretations still yield significant underdosing. Ideally, you want a supplement that offers full disclosure labelling; i.e.: one that lists exact amounts of each ingredient therein per dose.
For me the number one reason for taking AG1 (beyond it being a good multivitamin alternative) is psychological. I work out very early in the morning, and taking AG1 after I wake up and before my workout just puts me on a good path for the rest of the day, it sets me up nicely. I usually couple AG1 with a healthy dose of creatine. I realize that it's an expensive multivitamin, but somehow sipping on this green drink early in the morning satisfies me a lot more than having a multivitamin pill. It also helps to reduce any early morning cravings I might have due to working out fasted, on an empty stomach. btw, I work out fasted because my trainings are very early and i find that having a solid pre-workout meal just doesn't sit right with me, probably due to very short amount of time ti digest it. So i feel better with only a drink beforehand. Again, AG1 is not a miracle greens superfood gut healing drink, I know that, but it really does put me in a good psychological head-state already early in the morning and so it makes it easer to make the right healthy choices later in the day.
Nothing wrong with that.. but your biggest asset is the gym each morning and consistency going AG1 or not. The gym has done more for my mental health than anything else. That’s not to say other things don’t also play a major role.
I agree with this. I use green powder as nothing more than a fortification for a daily green smoothie that I make. I get a nice quality cold pressed green juice, mix in the green powder, add spirulina powder, a splash of prune juice, a ginger shot, a banana, ice, and a touch of agave sweetener. I blend it all up and have a cup of this every day and it’s really helped my energy levels and digestion. When I had the green powder mixed with water alone-its effects were marginal for me.

Dr. Patrick, you are an oasis of nuance in a desert of polarized, sensationalist media. Thank you so much for your balanced and measured analysis! 🙏 As a relatively high quality but expensive multivitamin, it's easy to understand why this supplement would be so appealing to people with bigger budgets who are also highly-motivated fitness optimizers. But most other people probably won't find the potential benefits to be worth the hit to their budgets.
And in connection with the topic, the Chronometer website/app can give you a very good idea of how much your nutritional bases get covered by real whole foods. I’ve noticed that by eating beef, greens, blueberries, dark chocolate, artichokes, macadamias, asparagus, olive oil, avocado, sauerkraut, cod liver oil and coconut on a daily basis, calcium seems to be the only nutrient coming up short.
My brother gave me some sample packs of AG1 and I felt really good after I drank it. I also get a feeling of sustained clean energy... there's more to it than a multi vitamin as someone who takes a high quality multi-vitamin and also quality supplements. I think it's expensive and I do agree about most of what you said but there's for sure something to it that is worth trying imo.
Without having taken it myself - ONE look at the ingredients list told me that the cordyceps included was a GREAT (and smart) way for them to make pretty much everyone feel that great cordyceps energy bump - it's wonderful and palpable, and something I'll always consider to be in my top 3 ever 'supplements'... which means it can be (and is, I've definitely noted now, several times) trickily used to make otherwise non-dramatically/less-dramatically impactful supplements (like AG1) seem to be an almost magical 'REAL deal.' Buy some cordyceps separately... and put that to the test. 👍
I started using AG1 during my cancer recovery. I understood that it was basically a multivitamin, but the probiotics in it were what I was interested in as I cannot have dairy. The day after I took it, my stomach and recovery symptoms drastically reduced. I also noticed that I do not feel I need coffee after drinking it that day. This is just my personal experience and I have found the product helpful for my use cases.
That's great to hear about your recovery and symptomatic relief. I hope you've found some kind of fundamental connection there to leverage. But i will say - without having taken it myself - ONE look at the ingredients list told me that the cordyceps included was a GREAT (and smart) way for them to make pretty much everyone feel that great cordyceps energy bump - it's wonderful and palpable, and something I'll always consider to be in my top 3 ever 'supplements'... which means it can be (and is, I've definitely noted now, several times) trickily used to make otherwise non-dramatically/less-dramatically impactful supplements (like AG1) seem to be an almost magical 'REAL deal.' Buy some cordyceps separately... and put that to the test? But certainly it sounds like AG1's ingredients affected you in meaningful ways - WHATEVER the hell it was. 👍
She is absolutely right; it's exactly that. It's not particularly effective as a greens supplement, which was my initial reason for buying it. It's mainly beneficial when you're traveling without your vitamins and need something to balance your vitamin intake. Aside from providing vitamins, I don't see any other benefits. Given the price and quality, I think you can do without it if you don't want to spend so much. I've taken it for a month and haven't noticed any special effects beyond what is claimed. It's essentially fancy water that provides vitamins, but you still need to take your regular vitamins to meet your nutritional needs. It’s great for hydration and post-workout recovery, much like highly effective water. However, you could achieve the same results by drinking coconut water and taking electrolytes for much less. This product is convenient for travel because you can pack the powder and add it to your water. So if you buy it just buy the bag of powder and cancel the subscription. The bag of powder you can use for your travel and workouts, daily intake of drinking water. So it’ll last for months & you wouldn’t have to buy more than twice for the year. Overall, I was disappointed that all these influencers were claiming all these great results. When I saw no benefits other than hydration and feeling good drinking first thing in the morning. And this coming from someone who works out and eats healthy.
I considered AG-1, so I looked at its contents. Currently, I supplement with a bunch of vitamins/minerals to help mitigate migraines, cold sores and kidney stones. I also take several for immune health. When I saw the dosages for all vitamins and minerals in AG-1, most weren't enough for me ... even though they are higher than the RDA (which is total joke),
Credit for saying that. Being sponsored by supplement companies like Atia, Huberman etc. has lowered their credibility. I get that’s who’s paying and supporting their ability to share information and their expertise but it also causes them to compromise themselves and even mislead their audience.
Good on you Rhonda! I know Andrew Huberman who I listen to regularly takes AG1 and talks of the benefits but its very $$$. Nice to know I'm not missing out.
Thank you Rhonda, i bought some and basically cut it up with Moringa and Spiralina, as it improves the taste of other green powders massively, I would say that sincs taking it it has helped my gut health and general digestion.

Thanks for pulling back the curtain on AG1. For years now we’ve been subjected to influencers telling us how great they are and how we could benefit from them for about $100 a month when a decent multi vitamin for 50 cents a day and eating a salad would do just as well or better. This is a cautionary tale about companies that pay influencers in order to sell us grossly overpriced products while they all clean up unsuspecting consumers.

As a relatively high quality but expensive multivitamin, it's easy to understand why this supplement would be so appealing to people with bigger budgets who are also highly-motivated fitness optimizers.
Nice - great rec, thanks a ton!
Agree! I love Cronometer. It helps me track the nitty gritty of my diet, so I can easily adjust when things are below par.
Thank you found my fitness ❤
Thanks for your transparency
My brother gave me some sample packs of AG1 and I felt really good after I drank it. I also get a feeling of sustained clean energy... there's more to it than a multi vitamin as someone who takes a high quality multi-vitamin and also quality supplements. I think it's expensive and I do agree about most of what you said but there's for sure something to it that is worth trying imo.
Without having taken it myself - ONE look at the ingredients list told me that the cordyceps included was a GREAT (and smart) way for them to make pretty much everyone feel that great cordyceps energy bump - it's wonderful and palpable, and something I'll always consider to be in my top 3 ever 'supplements'... which means it can be (and is, I've definitely noted now, several times) trickily used to make otherwise non-dramatically/less-dramatically impactful supplements (like AG1) seem to be an almost magical 'REAL deal.'
Buy some cordyceps separately... and put that to the test. 👍
Wow. Good to see her speaking truth to power. How long before the money comes to speak with her
Thank you! 🙏 respect for her just went up
I started using AG1 during my cancer recovery.
But i will say - without having taken it myself - ONE look at the ingredients list told me that the cordyceps included was a GREAT (and smart) way for them to make pretty much everyone feel that great cordyceps energy bump - it's wonderful and palpable, and something I'll always consider to be in my top 3 ever 'supplements'... which means it can be (and is, I've definitely noted now, several times) trickily used to make otherwise non-dramatically/less-dramatically impactful supplements (like AG1) seem to be an almost magical 'REAL deal.'
Buy some cordyceps separately... and put that to the test? But certainly it sounds like AG1's ingredients affected you in meaningful ways - WHATEVER the hell it was. 👍
Thank you for clarifying! Now which type of multi vitamin would you recommend?🙏
Thank you for your honesty
Thank you for your honesty on this subject!
Short answer is yes.
Finally, someone who is honest and not playing up the AG marketing.
Louder for the people in the back.
The AG1 ad prior to the video was perfect
I considered AG-1, so I looked at its contents. Currently, I supplement with a bunch of vitamins/minerals to help mitigate migraines, cold sores and kidney stones. I also take several for immune health. When I saw the dosages for all vitamins and minerals in AG-1, most weren't enough for me ... even though they are higher than the RDA (which is total joke),
Thank you Rhonda, always quality backed up info
Very impressive that she would say that! Many podcasts make a lot of $ off that product
including the Joe Rogan Experience
Credit for saying that. Being sponsored by supplement companies like Atia, Huberman etc. has lowered their credibility. I get that’s who’s paying and supporting their ability to share information and their expertise but it also causes them to compromise themselves and even mislead their audience.
Wow this is so refreshing to hear
Love it! She stays true to the facts and can't be bought
Thank you, Rhonda! Finally someone speaks the truth about AG1.
exactly what i thought. thanks Doc for keepin it real
Good on you Rhonda! I know Andrew Huberman who I listen to regularly takes AG1 and talks of the benefits but its very $$$. Nice to know I'm not missing out.
You're the goat Rhonda. Thanks.
Rhonda you are amazing thank you just saved me a lot of money
Thank you Rhonda, i bought some and basically cut it up with Moringa and Spiralina, as it improves the taste of other green powders massively, I would say that sincs taking it it has helped my gut health and general digestion.
Great assessment Rhonda.
Huberman in one sentence talks about how important it is to CHEW your food for a multitude of reasons. Then he will run an ad saying you can just drink your food and save time with AG. Brilliant. Rhonda is straight up giving facts, she isn't paid to push things. This is why I listen to her and she has credibility.
Love this! I had someone tell me I should start taking this supplement to help with my “microbiome” because his sister is a nurse practitioner and told him it could help. 10 second google research will debunk that real quick
Dr. Peter Attia is a heavy investor in AG1 - he is not a disinterested party - though he's made his affiliation known.
Throwing Chris Williamson and Andrew Huberman under the bus with FACTS. Mad respect.
