God some people are making harsh picky comments. This band is utterly amazing, this is very hard to play live and get all the parts right, let's not forget Donald F is considered a genius for good reason and he is totally obsessive with the recording process. Even if there is post-live processing it isn't sampled and delivers us a great result. Well done everyone you should be extremely proud.
@@TNKeys Absolutely Truth. This is all effing LIVE!!!!! I can't imagine how many takes were used in creating any one of these songs. You guys are completely amazing. Thank you for taking some of the most complex pop/jazz and bringing it to life. And with some joy and chutzpah! Donald seems always depressed and pissed on stage, yet the music has so much to give!

I’m in total agreement. They did magnificent job with this tune..Gary is just a incredible Bassist with amazing feel and tone..Major props to this group
Yes, there is undoubtedly post-production work done on this to make it sparkle. Who cares? The band is tightAF! That rhythm section is 1000% locked in and I guarantee would still be the same live, this performance is played perfectly, and good luck finding another group that will sound this good live even without any editing- I'd wager you wouldn't ever get it this on point. I would've been in ecstacy if I heard this live, it still would be the best you could hear this outside of the man himself and his band playing it.
These folks have balls of steel to cover this technical masterpiece. Very impressive. A Who's Who of greats played the original... Jeff Porcaro, Marcus Miller, Larry Carlton, etc.
Larry Carlton not too proud to play with these guys right on that very stage that very night. And these guys are all top notch session cats themselves. So, yeah, they are every bit as good as whoever was used on the record or in Fagen's touring bands.
He was the first i noticed in this performance. And then there's Gary and Mark. I've heard them on a lot of Christian recordings since the 80s! Whenever I would buy a tape of CD back then, I would look at album credits and when I see their names, it's practically a buy for me. I wasn't a bassist then, but i noticed Gary had a tone i couldn't find elsewhere. And Mark's note choices would always evoke a nice feeling. These studio cats are fabulous!
@@grvmeister Thanks for the comment Gary. Wow, who would have thought that one of the greatest bass players I've only "heard" in CDs would actually comment. Fan moment here. :) By the way, is John H. related to the drummer Mark Hammond who was also playing drums in those 80s Christian albums?
Excellent! Most SD cover bands disappoint due to the rhythm section not being able to duplicate the extremely simple yet elusive grooves.. This band's rhythm section has it going on , and the results speak for themselves. Bravo!
Bass arrangement almost perfect but not exactly the same, some of the fills (like the very first one @ 1:24 and again 1:42-45) are a bit different and at least one guitar part, like @ 3:48, where there should be a a double stops/chordal guitar phrase, but overall I say the tune's essence and feeling are there...and 'Essence' as far as Steely Dan and Donald Fagen go, means as close as humanly possible to the original, unless one is making a 'version' (as opposed to a 'cover', which is the case here).
Incredible! Best cover ever, especially lead vocals ... and Fagan is hard to cover, if not impossible. Also the drummer: great backbeat, very consistent! And... the whole band, BRAVO!
Not one negative comment can be made here! These players are covering some of the most difficult music to reproduce. Bravo folks! If I'm not looking at the screen as I listen I forget I'm not spinning the original Vinyl!!
This might the best thing I've seen all year, certainly the best cover of the most difficult song ever written. AND, what a GREAT VOICE. It just makes the whole experience so pleasurable. I am a very very harsh critic ordinarily, but I find myself utterly FLUMMOXED at the talent here. Gee whiz, happy happy days...
It took a lot of hard work to create this cover to perfection. Just remember this is not Donald Fagan, but extremely talented musicians who love this music. Job well done!
Totally nailed the bass part which I consider very hard to get right, not because it's technically difficult but because of the timing. It's got feel that is hard to get right. Great job.
Best cover of a Steely Dan tune I've heard yet. Great job guys. And the bass, which is so difficult to get right, was spot on perfect. The feel was right on..
Not Steely Dan formally. It's Fagen's brilliant Solo Album that he spent I think two years producing after the Steely Dan sessions which was almost a year in the making called Gaucho...
My name's Kere Buchanan & I had a Dan group in Sydney for many years called the 'Bodacious Cowboys'. You guys sound fantastic! The right changes! Wonderful, K.
This is absolutely tremendous. To capture the essence of those mad scientists, and nail it, is a tremendous feet. I’ve heard this at least 10 times. The lead guy has a nice rasp to his voice, and the BGV’s are crushing. This is just very well done 5/5⭐️
Great lead vocal bij Gene Miller.!! Great performance of this band. The bass en drums make the groove, the rest is perfectly built around bass en drums. This makes my very happy.....(-:
The outro lead guitar lick resonates Becker or whoever laid down the solo on the Fagen record, but the achievement here musically is in the overall sound, authenticity, and faithfulness to the original recording. It totally captures Fagen's record....a very challenging feat given the chord structures, number of changes, and assimilation of it all. Vocal not really close to Donald's but what are you gonna do, not everyone sounds like Fagen.
I know most people gravitate to I.G.Y. , But to me this song was the core of a great concept album (remember them). If a band wanted make a living doing covers, you guys certainly took the road less traveled. Congrats on doing a great job covering insanely difficult material.
Just fantastic , wonderful , you got it chords rythm , indtruments , singing , its like fireworks of harmony and plenty of feeling ,keep on , viva Steely Fagen ! RIP Becker
I love Steely Dan/Fagan and I play bass so hearing this (and all your stuff) with the bass so prominent has my head bobbing and foot tapping! Wonderful stuff guys! (Special hat tip to Gary)
Donald said he only very begrudgingly ended up doing SD vocals because no one else they tried could bring the necessary *_attitude_* to his satisfaction. I totally get that. It's a whole vibe. Gotta have it. Good chance he'd approve of Gene tho. On fucking point 👊
Great sound! This is a unique talent and this band needs to be praised for their gig. This group makes this composition their own without taking away from the original genius of Donald Fagen's music.
Absolutely, fantastically perfect!!! I'm not if you guys inspire me or bum me out because my band would never be able to play this song with the same precision.
You all nailed all the little nuances and details most people would miss when covering this. I bet if you did a cover of Wendy by The Beach Boys, one of you would put the cough in during the organ solo. You all are great. I’d come down to Nashville to hear this if you did this again.
Wow, this is phenominal! Rhythm section just totally on point. What a stellar overall sound, one of my favorite albums ever and not an easy song to make sound right and you guys kill it!

Roy , definitely not simple grooves, as we know SD needed the best studio drummers to achieve these grooves.
No the drummer hasn't got the feel right, no light and dark and its just not there, somethings not quite right, but the rest of the band is awesome...
