  • This video shows "how to" tear down the Pentax Optio E10 digital camera. This particular camera had a problem with battery voltages. Specifically it reported good batteries as being weak. The problem was caused by battery leak damage to the battery terminals. The video show where the time/date battery is in case you need to replace it. I threw in some tangential items, such as the fate of the Pentax brand name. Included is a comparison to a nearly identical Sanyo VPC-S600. This was to demonstrate that consumer electronics with respected brand names are often made by unnamed Chinese contract manufacturers.

Hi, thanks so much for this video! I'm hoping you might be able to give me some advice. I recently bought this camera secondhand. It didn't have batteries in and from inspecting the battery compartment from the outside, I can't immediately see evidence of corrosion. However, when turning on with a fresh set of batteries, the startup screen shows and then reads 'Battery depleted' before turning off. I'm a little nervous to open it up since I don't have much experience with electronics. Would you say it's worth opening it up anyways to check for further evidence of possible battery leak damage and see if that fixes the problem? Or do you have any other suggestions on what the problem might be? Thanks for your time.

You place your thumb on the cover and push the cover off along the long axis. Push in the direction away from the hole for the tripod.

@@c.davidgraves4848 Thank you. I did manage to get it off and saw the batteries had leaked up into the cover mechanism. I guess it isnt going to bwe any use, now. I should just get a cellphone with a camera and be done...lol. See, I didnt get a charger when I received the Optio new as a gift, so I guess thats why it only took 2 to 4 pictures before rhe battery died and needed replaced. Thanks for your help.
